  • Why is Thunderbird pegging a core at 100%?

    I have experienced 2-3 unexplained lockup over last 10 days. Today, I had a random lockup (no mouse, keyboard response, 100% CPU). But, when I finally switched (Ctrl-Alt-F1) to command line (it took several minutes) it told me that thunderbird-bin had locked a CPU. I ran this to resolve: pidof thunderbird-bin sudo kill #### However, after saving other work, I tried restarting Thunderbird. It went to 90%+ CPU, and within 20 seconds it locked again. Once I have more detail I will raise a bug (on Ubuntu Forums). Does anyone have any other suggestions, advice? UPDATE Thunderbird 13.0.1 is quite stable in safe mode. Still working to resolve ..

    We are initiating in Spring + Primefaces development and the first problem we have encountered is about storing the xhtml pages into the WEB-INF folder. When we use a faces form in a view located inside the WEB-INF folder, then the commandButton does not execute the managed bean method. Our bean : In fact we think the problem is that with JSF , the pages are rendered using a link to the same page as the action of the form, so if the page is located in WEB-INF it is not public accessible. We know that having all our xhtml views in the web folder instead of WEB-INF actually solves the issue, but we would like to store that pages into WEB-INF. Thank you.

    I'm really hoping somebody with more experience can edit the question as per my examples of answers: • using version control • test driven development • debugging code (xdebug for php) • use of UML diagrams • use of OOP for maintainable, reusable code • use of frameworks (like Zend Framework for php) for rapid application development Anything else or an elaboration of what I mentioned above? Basically, I'm in the middle of forming a team of developers (I'm a developer myself) and I'd like some advice on how professional programmers/designers etc should work together and what standards/paradigms they should use. Also, if anybody has any books or links on the subject I'd welcome that!   • ubuntu 11.10 on MacBookPro 7,1 can only see one cpu

    On a MacBookPro 7,1 running ubuntu 11.10, System monitor only sees 1 core (instead of 2). cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'cpu cores' also gives: cpu cores : 1 I followed this guide and added acpi_apic_instance=2 to the line with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT, but that doesn't seem to change the situation. What can I do? I'm using rEFIt, installed under MacOS, and running in dual boot with MacOS. After the rEFIT menu, I'm still presented with the GRUB menu (I'm assuming that's normal). I saw similar posts on this matter, but could not fix my problem with what they suggested. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

    My goal is to be able to create online apps and dynamic, database driven websites. For instance, if in the future I get the idea for the next Digg or Facebook, I want to be able to code it myself. To arrive there I think I have basically two paths: Path 1 Start at a basic level, learning C, then C++ for OOP, then algorithms and data structures, with the goal of getting a solid grasp of computer programming. Only then move to PHP/MySQL/HTTP and start working on practical programming projects. Path 2 Start directly with PHP/MySQL/HTTP and getting my hands dirty with practical projects right away. What would you guys recommend?
