    I upgraded to the OCZ-Agility3 120GB from a 60 OCZ Vertex2 SSD. I cloned the drive from the Vertex to the new Agility. Everything seemed to have gone well and have not had any problems.   • How to explain to users the advantages of dumb primary key?

    Primary key attractiveness I have a boss(and also users) that wants primary key to be sophisticated/smart/attractive control number(sort of like Social Security number, or credit card number format) I just padded the primary key(in Views) with zeroes to appease their desire to make the control number sophisticated,smart and attractive. But they wanted it as: first 2 digits as client code, then 4 digits as year year, then last 4 digits as transaction number on that client on a given year, then reset the transaction number of client to 1 when next year flows. Each client's transaction starts with 1. e.g. WM20090001, WM20090002, BB2009001, WM20100001, BB20100001 But as I wanted to make things as simple as possible, I forgo embedding their suggested smartness in primary key, I just keep the primary key auto increments regardless of client and year. But to make it not dull-looking(they really are adamant to make the primary key as smart control number), I made the primary key appears to them smart, on view query, I put the client code and four digit year code on front of the eight-zero padded autoincrement key, i.e. WM200900000001. Sort of slug-like information on autoincremented primary key. Keeping primary key autoincrement regardless of any other information, we are able keep other potential side effects problem when they edit a record, for example, if they made a mistake of entering the transaction on WM, then they edit the client code to BB, if we use smart primary key, the primary keys of WM customer will have gaps in their control number. Or worse yet, instead of letting the control numbers have gaps/holes, the user will request that subsequent records of that gap should shift up to that gap and have their subsequent primary keys re-adjust(decremented). How do you deal with these user requests(reasonable or otherwise)? Do you yield to their request? Or just continue using dumb primary key and explain them the repercussions of having a very smart/sophisticated primary key and educate them the significant advantages of having a dumb primary key?   • Silverlight performance with a large number of Objects Org Chart.

    Hello, I’m working on a org chart project(SL 3) and I’m seeing the UI thread hang when the chart is building around 2,000 nodes and when it renders it takes about a min and then FPS drop to a crawl. Here is the code flow. Page.xaml.cs calls a wcf service that returns a list of AD users. Then we use Linq to build a collection of nodes to bind to the Orgchart.cs OrgChart.cs is a canvas and displays a collection of nodes and connecting lines. Node.cs is a canvas and has user data can contain children nodes. NodeContent.xaml is a user control that has borders so I can set the background, textblocks to display user's data, Events that handle the selected and expaned nodes, and storyboards that resize the nodes when they are selected or expanded.I noticed during hours of debugging , here in the InitializeComponent(); section where it loads the xaml it seems to be where the preformance hit is happening. System.Windows.Application.LoadComponent(this, new System.Uri("/Silverlight.Custom;component/NodeContent.xaml", System.UriKind.Relative)); So I guess I have two questions. Can threading help in any way with the UI thread hanging while drawing the nodes? How can I avoid the hit when calling this user control? Any advice or direction anyone can lend would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, KC

    I'm using a JMS queue to read from and insert data into a postgres table created by grails. The problem is obtaining the next sequence value. I thought I had found the solution with the following statement (by putting "DEFAULT" where the ID should go), but it's no longer working. I must have changed something, because I needed to recreate the table. What's the best way to get around this problem? ps = c.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO xml_test (id, version, xml_text) VALUES (DEFAULT, 0, ?)"); UPDATE: In response to the suggested solution, I did the following: Added this to the the domain: class XmlTest { String xmlText static constraints = { id generator:'sequence', params:[name:'xmltest_sequence'] } } And changed the insert statement to the following: ps = c.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO xml_test (id, version, xml_text) VALUES (nextval('xmltest_sequence'), 0, ?)"); However, when I run the statement, I get the following error: [java] 1 org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: relation "xmltest_sequence" does not exist Any thoughts?

    I am making a simple calibration program in C++ using OpenCV. Everything goes fine until I actually try to call CVCalibrateCamera2. At this point, I get one of several errors: If the number of images which I am using is equal to 4 (which is the number of points being drawn from each image: OpenCV Error: Sizes of input arguments do not match (Both matrices must have the same number of points) in unknown function, file ......\src\cv\cvfundam.cpp, line 870 If the number of images is below 20: OpenCV Error: Bad argument (The total number of matrix elements is not divisible by the new number of rows) in unknown function, file ......\src\cxcore\cxarray.cpp, line 2749 Otherwise, if the number of image is 20 or above: OpenCV Error: Unsupported format or combination of formats (Invalid matrix type) in unknown function, file ......\src\cxcore\cxarray.cpp, line 117 I have checked the arguments for CVCalibrateCamera2 many times, and I am certain that they are of the correct dimensions relative to one another. It seems like somewhere the program is trying to reshape a matrix based on the number of images, but I can't figure out where or why. Any ideas? I am using Eclipse Galileo, MINGW 5.1.6, and OpenCV 2.1.

    I have a WPF Grid with a XAML similar to this: <Grid width=200 Height=200 > <Grid.ColumnDefinitions > <ColumnDefinition Width="1*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="2*" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" MinHeight="24" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <TextBlock Text="Name" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0"/> <TextBox Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" /> <TextBlock Text="Age" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0"/> <TextBox Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" /> </Grid> I need to add a new row in between existing 2 rows of data, but my worry is that when I add a new row, I will need to manually update Grid.Row attached property in each of the controls that appear in rows below the newly added row.   • URL Routing with WebForms, what to do with additional querystrings like page number, filter, etc?

    I am switching from Intelligencia's UrlRewriter to the new web forms routing in ASP.NET 4.0. I have it working great for basic pages, however, in my e-commerce site, when browsing category pages, I previously used querystrings that were built into my pager control to control paging. An old url (with UrlRewriting) would be: http://www.mysite.com/Category/Arts-and-Crafts_17 I have a MapPageRoute defined in global.asax as: routes.MapPageRoute("category-browse", "Category/{name}_{id}", ~/CategoryPage.aspx"); This works great. Now, somebody clicks to go to page 2. Previously I would have just tacked on ?page=2 as the querystring. Now, How do I handle this using web forms routing? I know I can do something like: http://www.mysite.com/Category/Arts-and-Crafts_17/page/2 But in addition to page, I can have filters, age ranges, gender, etc. Should I just keep defining routes that handle these variables, or should I continue using querystrings and can I define a route that allows me to use my querstrings like before?

    In my validation class I have this: $fields['a_1'] = 'First Question'; $fields['a_2'] = 'Second Question'; $fields['a_3'] = 'Third Question'; $fields['a_4'] = 'Fourth Question'; This is getting old--I have about 40 of these to write, and each set has matching validation rules: $rules['a_1'] = 'hour'; $rules['a_2'] = 'hour'; ... Is there a way to say: $fields['a_' . 1 - 17] = "One, Two" Etc... Just curious... if not, I'll brute force it.

  • How do I minimize the number of changes between revisions with new doxygen output?

    A subversion repository contains the html, latex and man directories that doxygen generates from the source code. Even for small source code changes, new files are being generated with random names which makes for large changes in the version control system. Is there are way around this? How can I minimize the changesets between revisions while still including doxygen-generated documentation? Alternatively, how could I find which of the doxygen-genrated files are no longer being used and should be removed?

  • Suggestions for Windows 8 migration [closed]

    I'm thinking of migrating to Windows 8. At first I hated it, but I'm pretty sure the Windows 8 model is the future, and I don't particularly want to end up hating the future like my parents, frustrated and bewildered by anything past Windows XP. I'm currently running Windows 7 and my system has been accumulating some problems. It's probably an accumulation of issues from installing too much software, changing firewall settings, installing Ubuntu alongside Windows, and... well I'm not sure, but my computer has been buggy in unexpected ways lately (freezing and unfreezing, display driver crashing and recovering, and what I call "deep freeze/thaw cycle" where the mouse won't even move for a while). I'm good at solving computer problems, but I can't seem to get to the root of these and my best idea for fixing them is making sure I've backed up every file then re-installing the entire OS. Luckily for me, a new OS is just around the corner so this would be a good time to get two things out of the way at once. The problem I see is that the upgrade options I see are all "seamless". I don't want a seamless upgrade. I want to wipe the slate clean and start all over. Does this mean I will have to buy a full, new copy of Windows 8 rather than one of the cheaper upgrading options? Or does it not make since for me to go to Windows 8 given that I have a laptop, not a tablet? Maybe I should just re-install Windows 7, or even call good enough good enough, try to eliminate the bugs, and start with a fresh slate in 2-3 years after this computer eventually dies entirely from (inevitable) hardware failure. What would be the advantages or disadvantages and costs of each option, how would I go about upgrading to Windows 8 if that's the option I choose, and what is your personal opinion about my situation?

    I need to access an SQL Server that is on a machine behind a firewall and you access this machine using an ip address like 95.95.95.33:6930 (not the real ip address) ... But, you get my point that by accessing 95.95.95.33 on port 6930, the firewall routes the requests to that particular machine ... My question is ... How do you construct a connection string to access the machine at address 95.95.95.33:6930 and then further access the SQL Server on port 1433 or maybe a different port like 8484 ??? Thanks Mike

I am looking for an output similar to Caps = 5 Lower = 3 numneric = 6 Special = 4 Fictitious values of course. I have gone through the php string pages using count_char, substr_count etc but cant find what I am looking for. Thank you
