  • How do I set Internet Explorer 64-bit as my default browser?

    Windows Vista x64. It defaults to IE 32-bit, and will not allow me to set 64-bit as the default with the "Make Default" button. I'm currently forced to workaround by starting IE 64-bit manually, and leaving it up with an empty window. Then when links are fired from apps, they open in that 64-bit version. Problem being is that sometimes I forget and get a bunch of stuff opened in 32-bit without realizing it. Then I have to remember all the links I clicked, close ALL of them, open IE 64-bit, and put them all back in. Trying to avoid all that re-work when I forget to do the workaround. Unfortunately, all the forums I've googled that discuss this just have a bunch of people saying "don't do that" and "you don't want to do that". Yes, I do want to do this. The particular feature I use only works right in my 64-bit version, and I don't use 32-bit plugins. I fully understand the implications of what I'm doing. :-)

  • How can I avoid my web browser from redirecting to localhost using WAMP in Windows7?

    I'm currently using Windows 7 with WAMP to try and work on some software, but my web browsers will not accept cookies from the "localhost" domain. I tried creating a few bogus domains in my hosts file by pointing them to 127.0.0.1 but when I type them in I am automatically redirected back to localhost. I have also configured virtualhosts in apache to correspond with the domains I added to the hosts file and it still redirects back to localhost. Is there anything special I must do on Windows 7 to get around this localhost redirect?   • Load images in parallel - supported by browser or a feature to implement?

    Hi all: I am not a pro in web development and Apache server still remains a mystery to me. we've got a project which runs on LAMP, pretty much like all the commercial hosting plans. I am confused about one problem : does modern browsers support image loading in parallel? or this requires some special feature/config set up from server side? Can this be done with PHP coding or by some server-side configuration? Is a special content delivery networking needed for this? The benchmark demonstration will be the flickr website. I am too suprised to see how all image thumbnails are loaded in a short time after a search as if there were only one image to load. Sorry I cannot present any code to you... completed lost in this:(

  • Why would my 15" MacBook Pro suddenly ask me to Hard Quit while I was in a browser?

    I was in Firefox looking at a search I had performed in eBay and all of a sudden, the screen grayed out starting from the top down. In the middle of the screen was a box with about 5 different languages saying I had to hard quit my computer. I tried other keys on my computer and nothing was working so I hard quit and restarted.   • How to take a CSS animation from a browser, and export a GIF of it?

    I have the following CSS3 Animation going on: http://dabblet.com/gist/2884702. It's basically a simulation of a mirror rotating on its x-axis. Now, I wish to present that in a PowerPoint presentation. Since PowerPoint doesn't have the webkit engine, I want to extract an animated GIF image of that animation, and embed it into my presentation. The problem? No matter what I've tried, I couldn't make a reasonably smooth animated GIF. I've Googled and found many free software which claim to do the job, tried several, none worked as expected. I've tried IrfanView, same issue (also their site makes me want to vomit). So, is there a solution? Or am I doomed to not be able to display it?

  • What's the best Flash Blocker for the Chrome Browser on a Mac?

    Looking at the extensions gallery for Chromium there seems to be a number fo flash-blocking extensions available: A couple with very similar names even. I've been using ClicktoFlash in Safari and am used to it just flat out working everywhere. Unfortunately after using FlashBlock by Ruzanow for a bit I've noticed it gets a bit "Hinky" at times (blocking the flash by collapsing the div so you can't click to enable it, etc.) I have a feeling there may be some other extensions/scripts out there not listed above that are better. Ultimately I'd like to find a flash blocker that works as well as ClickToFlash does in Safari.

    I read about EFF's Panopticlick project to see how unique your webbrowser's headers are. I would like to anonymize that a bit. My current User Agent is Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20100106 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.5.7 I would like to make that more anonymous, however I still wanted to be counted as a Firefox and Ubuntu user. How can I change my User Agent in Firefox? What should I change it to so that it's less unique, but will be counted as a Firefox user and a Ubuntu user on web analytics software? I know that there is no guarantee that I will be counted a Firefox/Ubuntu user, just something that 'works most of the time' would be sufficent.

  • I have a NGINX server configured to work with node.js, but many times a file of 1.03MB of js is not loaded by various browser and various pc

    I'm using this in a local LAN so it should be quite fast. The nginx server use the node.js server to serve static files, so it must pass throught node.js to download the files, but that is not a problem when I'm not using the nginx. In chrome with debugger on I can see that the status is: 206 - partial content and it only has downloaded 31KB of 1.03MB. After 1.1 min it turns red and the status failed.   • How do I correctly display special characters in my Firefox browser?

    (Firefox 3.6.13 on Windows XP) Every once in a while I notice an odd character on certain web pages when browsing the web. It is a outline of a box with a 4-digit number inside. And example of a page that has these characters is: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/#highlights After each section heading (Elastic, Completely Controlled, ...) I see a box with the number "0096" inside. I looked at the cached version on Google, and google has &ndash; in it's place, so I'm guessing I should be seeing a dash there instead of the box with the numbers in it. I have tried changing the character encoding in Firefox but haven't been able to find one that shows these characters correctly. Is there a way to allow Firefox to view these characters? In any case, it crashed my firefox 3.5.4. (or to be more precise, made it unusable) ... I don't know about other browsers.     I am looking for a tool, which helps me to organize my personal bookmarks. I want to be able to assign tags and free comments to a bookmark. I want to search my bookmarks by tags date of bookmarking pattern in title pattern in url It would be nice to be web based to enable sharing my bookmarks between different machines. But for it would be OK, if it works on a single machine as long as it has some import/export way to transfer the links to a new machine replacing the old. As browsers I'm using Firefox and ChromePlus. It would be nice, if the solution works with both browsers. With free comments, I mean additional remarks stored for a bookmark, which is not essential for searching.

  • How to make sure clients update their browser cache when my website is updated?

    I am using the HTTP 1.1 Cache-Control header to implement client-side caching. Since I update my website only once a month I would like the CSS and JS files to be cached for 30 days with Cache-Control: max-age=2592000. The problem is that the 30-day period defined by Cache-Control doesn't coincide with the website update cycle, it starts from the moment the users visit the site and ends 30 days later, which means an update could occur in the meantime and users would be running with outdated content for a while, which could break the rendering of the website if for instance the HTML and CSS no longer match. How can I perform client-side caching of content for periods of several days but somehow get users to refresh their CSS/JS files after the website has been updated? One solution I could think of is that if website updates can be schedule, the max-age returned by the server could be decreased every day accordingly so that no matter when people visit the website, the end of caching period would coincide with the update of the website, but changing the server configuration every day goes against one of my sysadmin principles (once it's running, don't touch it).

  • Is there a way to disable beeps in chm browser and what's causing them?

    When browsing a .chm file, in search tab, when I click on each result I get a beep. I don't think there should be a beep every time I click on a search result. In any case, I'd like to just disable them. I know there is a way to disable the beeps system-wide, but I don't require that. It's not the "Start navigation" sound like used in Internet Explorer. This is truly a beep, like the one resulting when the pc is not responding, and one keeps pressing various keys on the keyboard, with each key press generating a beep. Besides, I have the windows "no sounds" scheme, meaning there shouldn't be event driven sounds.

  • CSS file not served by IIS 7.5 after multiple clear cache refreshes in a row in browser

    We are experiencing an interesting issue with IIS 7.5 static caching and a css file. When we use IE to hit the page in question everything works fine - 200 OK on css file. When we refresh the page it works fine - 304 Not Modified on css file. When I refresh again with control key it reloads fine - 200 OK on css file. Now if I do a control key + refresh multiple times in a row really fast the css fails to load and in the developer tools network it says "Loading..." for the css file and it hangs never coming back. Any ideas?

  • Is there a way to manage browser [chrome] session cookies with a fast toggle for multiple users?

    I feel I should go into more detail. My wife and I share a laptop and browse email. Currently we keep coming back to each others gmail accounts, having to log out and log back in. Are there any good extensions or addons that would allow us to toggle back and forth between these? This does not necessarily need to apply to just gmail but include any cookie, session, etc. I'd be willing to use Firefox if such an extension exists on it as well. Much appreciated!
