  • Could git do not store history of specific folders when working with git-svn?

    In short: Is there a way to disable storing full history for specific folders in git-svn repo? We have pretty large SVN repo with big checkout. I would like to migrate it to Git for my local development, because Git speeds up update and status commands orders of magnitude. When I simply do git svn clone it creates very big repo. Big enough to be bigger then my whole HDD. The problem lies in binary directories for which history is too large. Latest binaries are required for proper local build, but history is not required at all for my development process. I will never change them myself. I would like to store only latest versions for specific folders, or may be a history, but for no more than a week. I could only found filter for git svn fetch, which excludes specific folders at all. This is not exactly what I need. It's OK with me to have Cron task which deletes history from specific folders, but I do not know how to make one. Also Cron does not solve problem of first git svn clone. P.S. SVN repository structure could not be changed by any means.

    Hi, I'm trying to pass command line arguments to C# application, but I have problem passing something like this: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\App name" even if I add " " to the argument? Any help??   • Unix [Homework]: Get a list of /home/user/ directories in /etc/passwd

    I'm very new to Unix, and currently taking a class learning the basics of the system and its commands. I'm looking for a single command line to list off all of the user home directories in alphabetical order from the /etc/passwd directory. This applies only to the home directories, and not the contents within them. There should be no duplicate entries. I've tried many permutations of commands such as the following: sort -d | find /etc/passwd /home/* -type -d | uniq | less I've tried using -path, -name, removing -type, using -prune, and changing the search pattern to things like /home/*/$, but haven't gotten good results once. At best I can get a list of my own directory (complete with every directory inside it, which is bad), and the directories of the other students on the server (without the contained directories, which is good). I just can't get it to display the /home/user directories and nothing else for my own account. Many thanks in advance.

I need to write one that copies a file to a new folder and renames it At the moment, my batch file consists of only this command: COPY ABC.PDF \\Documents As you can see, it only copies the file ABC.pdf to the network folder 'Documents'. However i need to change this so it renames the file ABCxxx.pdf, where xxx is a text variable that i would like to set somewhere in the batch file. For example, if xxx = "_Draft", then file would be renamed ABC_Draft.pdf after it is copied. Thanks

Sometimes it's very useful to be to fetch data stored on your remote server simply by invoking netcat with some shell kung fu, for example: To download the XML result of your nightly data crunching job you might run something like: echo "get 95ec6c7693ec53771c8a3fb1061562b8" | nc localhost 11211 > console_overview_06_04_2010.xml The interesting part here is get SOME_UNIQUE_KEY which is part of the memcached protocol. I.e The Installer does the following: Specify a location for the files to go into (INSTALLOCATION variable) Then after copying has finished run a tool which will zip the files and attach them to attach them to another application. <CustomAction Id="InstallTo" Return="check" Directory="INSTALLLOCATION" Execute="immediate" ExeCommand='"C:\MyTool\Here\Tool.exe" -ad [INSTALLLOCATION] Poop 1.0'/> <InstallExecuteSequence> <Custom Action="InstallTo" After="InstallFinalize">$InstallTo&gt;2</Custom> </InstallExecuteSequence> At the moment I'm not sure anyuthing is being called, is there a way to basically have this two step install and report progress if the tool failed/doesn't exist etc. Thanks, Jamie

    How can I copy a file using DOS commands into a directory structure that may not yet exist? I need to be able to force the creation of the directory path to the target file location if that location doesn't already exist. For example, there is already a file.txt in this location: C:\file.txt And I want to copy it to C:\example\new\path\to\copy\of\file\file.txt but at this time C:\example\ and all the subdirectories may or may not yet exist. Basically, I am looking for a "copy and create the target path if necessary" command. What would you recommend is the best way to achieve this?

    I have python code that needs to do just a couple simple things to photographs: crop, resize, and overlay a watermark. I've used PIL, and the resample/resize results are TERRIBLE. I've used imagemagick, and the interface and commands were designed by packaging a cat in a box, and then repeatedly throwing it down a set of stairs at a keyboard. I'm looking for something which is not PIL or Imagemagick that I can use with python to do simple, high-quality image transformations. For that matter, it doesn't even have to have python bindings if the command line interface is good. Oh, and it needs to be relatively platform agnostic, our production servers are linux, but some of our devs develop on windows. It can't require the installation of a bunch of silly gui code to use as a library, either.

    In OptionParser I can make an option mandatory, but if I leave out that value it will take the name of any following option as the value, screwing up the rest of the command line parsing.   • Why do I have to specify the -i switch with a backup extension when using ActivePerl?

    I cannot get in-place editing Perl one-liners running under ActivePerl to work unless I specify them with a backup extension: C:\> perl -i -ape "splice (@F, 2, 0, q(inserted text)); $_ = qq(@F\n);" file1.txt Can't do inplace edit without backup. The same command with -i.bak or -i.orig works a treat, but also creates an unwanted backup file in the process. Has anyone else faced similar issues? Is there a way around this?

  • PHP set timeout for script, set_time_limit not working

    I have a command-line PHP script that runs a wget request using each member of an array with foreach. This wget request can sometimes take a long time so I want to be able to set a timeout for killing the script if it goes past 15 seconds for example. I have PHP safemode disabled and tried set_time_limit(15) early in the script, however it continues indefinitely. I've given up troubleshooting set_time_limit() and was trying to find other ways to kill the script after 15 seconds of execution. However, I'm not sure if it's possible to check the time a script has been running while it's in the middle of a wget request at the same time (a do while loop did not work). Thanks for any tips!

I also need to pass an argument that only has a single numeric value possible (to specify timeout), e.g.: ./urltest.php 60 url1.com url2.com url3.com I'm not exactly sure how to specify argv[1] to be a single numeric variable while at the same time the rest of the arguments (i.e. the list of urls) go into an array. The problem is that the script, that calls another java application, never ends, although it runs successfully from bash. I tried to debug it: (gdb) bt #0 0xb773d422 in __kernel_vsyscall () #1 0xb7709b5d in pthread_join (threadid=3063909232, thread_return=0xbf9cb678) at pthread_join.c:89 #2 0x0804dd78 in ContinueInNewThread () #3 0x080497f6 in main () I tried with: ProcessBuilder(); and Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd); Looks like it waits for something to finish.   • Killing a program if it displays a dialog box (devenv.com running under CruiseControl.net)

    I have CruiseControl.net running Visual Studio (2005/2008 - using devenv.com) as we need to build deployment projects (.vdproj). At times, for various reasons devenv decides that even though it was run from the command line, using the devenv.com varient, it still wants to put up a dialog box. Now, as it's running under CruiseControl.net on a remote server this is never seen and the only syptom of this is that the build eventually times out. When the build is still in progress a look at the tasks shows devenv running but not consuming any processor power. Is there a handy utility through which could run devenv.com which basically watches the program it starts up and basically kills it if it dares to display a dialog box of any kind?
