    I am designing a REST API and I wonder what the recommended way to handle updates to resources would be. More specifically, I would allow updates through a PUT on the resource, but what should I allow in the body of the PUT request? Always the complete structure of the resource? Always the subpart (that changed) of the structure of the resource? A combination of both? For example, take the resource http://example.org/api/v1/dogs/packs/p1.     man zpool states that a vdev for a zfs pool can be a "regular file". Can I specify a sparse file (the warning about the integrity of the file being determined by the underlying filesystem should apply with the same relevance for a sparse file)? The ZFS administration guide on https://pthree.org/2012/12/04/zfs-administration-part-i-vdevs/ states that file vdevs "must be preallocated, and not sparse files or thin provisioned" (thanks to @jlliagre). On https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Experimenting_with_ZFS sparse files are used without any comment.

    find has good support for finding files the more modified less than X days ago, but how can I use find to locate all files modified after a certain date? I can't find anything in the find man page to do this, only to compare against another files time or to check for differences between created time and now. Is making a file with the desired time and comparing against that the only way to do this?

  • Does Python/Scipy have a firls( ) replacement (i.e. a weighted, least squares, FIR filter design)?

    I am porting code from Matlab to Python and am having trouble finding a replacement for the firls( ) routine. It is used for, least-squares linear-phase Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter design. I looked at scipy.signal and nothing there looked like it would do the trick. Of course I was able to replace my remez and freqz algorithsm, so that's good. On one blog I found an algorithm that implemented this filter without weighting, but I need one with weights. If I want to convert anything else such as a header file or just the output from ls -l or other program the line breaks are ignored, producing a mess. How can I get groff to see and respect the line breaks in use in the shell?

    Has anybody managed to get the ".NET Data Provider for SqlServer" to actually work within perfmon.exe. I have a .NET app that uses nhibernate to interact with sql server 2005 db. All I want to do is to view the NumberOfActiveConnectionPools, NumberOfActiveConnections and the NumberOfFreeConnections within perfmon.exe Can somebody explain to me how exactly I get this to work?     Both less -r (preserve terminal control sequences) and less -S (chop long lines) work well alone. But using them together breaks things. It chops too late and it wrecks the next line. Reducing COLUMNS environment variable is no op: (man less) But if you have a windowing system which supports TIOCGWINSZ or WIOCGETD, the window system's idea of the screen size takes precedence over the LINES and COLUMNS environment variables.
