  • Cleanup for control inside a FlowDocument

    I have a custom control that I use inside a FlowDocument. The control uses a System.Drawing.ImageAnimator to display transparent, animated GIF images. Why is this such a pain in the butt in WPF anyway? :P In my original implementation, this was causing memory leaks when a paragraph containing the control was being deleted from the document, because the ImageAnimator kept a reference to the control for event handling. I've now implemented a WeakEventManager pattern which seems to indeed fix the leak itself, but I would like to stop "OnFrameChanged" events from being fired if a particular animated GIF is not currently in the document, instead of relying on the garbage collector to eventually collect the control objects and my event manager to notice that there no longer are valid listeners to the event. Basically, I would like to take a more active role in this and have the control react to being removed from the FlowDocument. Is there some way to do this? I've been unable to find it. OnVisualParentChanged doesn't get fired, because the direct parent (a Paragraph) is unchanged.

  • openvpn not creating internal route for client

    I have two openvpn clients and a server using shared keys. I have internal routes specified in the ccd directory for both clients, but when they connect, the server only creates the internal route for one of them, despite the logs saying it's creating both. Both clients and the server use the "--script-security 2" command-line option. Can anyone think of why it would do this ?   • For each <item> in CheckedListBox. <item> returns as Object and not as Control

    Hello there. I have a CheckedListBox previously populated. I want to loop with a "for each / next" through all items in the CheckedListBox and do a lot of "stuff" with each iteration element of the checkedlistbox. example code: For Each item In CheckedListBox1.Items If item.Checked = True Then 'do stuff like item.BackColor = Color.Blue Else 'do other stuff item.BackColor = Color.Brown End If Next the problem is that is an 'Object' type and not a 'Control' type. If I force the iteration var As CheckBox, it throws an InvalidCastException saying that type 'System.String' can't be associated with type 'System.Windows.Forms.CheckBox' I know I can easily work around using for i=0 to CheckedListBox.Items.Count - 1 but I want to use a for each /next loop since I have a lot of code in that loop (and With can't be used) and always poiting directly to the object is something I wish to avoid and I really need the code to be as simple as possible. I actually spent one afternoon looking for this but couldn't find any answer. If someone could be kind enough to enlight me in this, it would be extremely appreciated. Best regards

  • Why wouldn't the default Control Adapter mappings work on Chrome or Safari?

    I have confirmed that my Control Adapters are not triggering in Chrome and Safari. I've debugged, and the breakpoints inside the adapters just don't get hit in Chrome/Safari, when they work perfectly find in Firefox/IE. So, for Chrome/Safari, IIS is just ignoring the mapping. My AdapterMappings.browser file looks like this: <browsers> <browser refID="Default"> <controlAdapters> [...adapters here....] </controlAdapters> </browser> </browsers> This should provide mappings for all browsers, correct? I used the Charles proxy to check what user agents were being sent. They are: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.1.249.1064 Safari/532.5 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/531.22.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Safari/531.22.7 Any idea why this would be? Everything I've read tells me that my browser mappings are correct? And, as I said this works for IE/Firefox, so I know my configuration is technically correct.

    Hello. I have been playing with Compact Framework lately and i need some advice. I have a collection of items. One of the properties on each item is a string type that holds XML. This XML defines image, font, style etc... Im looking for a control (similar to listView) that would replace listBox control. Im not satisfied with listView control, because it is very limited on items level. The control has to be dynamic enough so that my parser could parse the XML and customise the control. For a start i would like to show an image and perhaps some font styles for each row in the control. Here is a sample what im trying to achieve: Any suggestions?

    I'm using the built-in Calendar control. It works, but in a few places the way the HTML is rendered is broken or not CSS-friendly and unfortunately cannot be changed (it's hard coded). I was hoping they would fix this in .NET 4.0, but as far as I can tell the Calendar control hasn't been changed at all. Also, as far as I know, there's no CSS adapter for the Calendar control. So, I would need a control that would: Allow me to customize the content of each cell (like OnDayRender works) Allow me to assign CSS classes to any HTML it may render Not render anything automatically that cannot be turned off, except layout code No auto-postback or auto-JS code (I can handle these by hand using simple links or custom JS calls) Basically a simple calendar view control that would give me full rendering control. What would you recommend? Thanks!

  • What to use for version control with Visual Studio 2008 for inhouse projects?

    We want to put a number of our in-house projects under version control. Our projects are C# .NET applications and assemblies. We originally decided to go Microsoft all the way (as is the norm around here), and tried installing Visual Studio Team Foundation Server. To say the least, it was way more trouble of trying to get a successful install than it's worth, and I'm afraid we don't have a entire server to dedicate to TFS itself, as the installer seems to insist. We also considered a generic solution like Subversion or CVS, or possibly some kind of free online hosting that doesn't make our source publicly available under some license like Google Code appears to. Does anyone have any suggestions for us that would best fit our in-house MS environment? We'd also get some benefit out of some kind of project management tools if they were nicely integrated in to the solution, but this would only be a perk. I should also mention that we haven't entirely ruled out TFS, but it's looking like a pain, so anything you guys have to say for or against it would be helpful.

  • ASP.NET MVC : Good Replacement for User Control?

    I found user controls to be incredibly useful when working with ASP.NET webforms. By encapsulating the code required for displaying a control with the markup, creation of reusable components was very straightforward and very, very useful. While MVC provides convenient separation of concerns, this seems to break encapsulation (ie, you can add a control without adding or using its supporting code, leading to runtime errors). Having to modify a controller every time I add a control to a view seems to me to integrate concerns, not separate them. I'd rather break the purist MVC ideology than give up the benefits of reusable, packaged controls. I need to be able to include components similar to webforms user controls throughout a site, but not for the entire site, and not at a level that belongs in a master page. These components should have their own code not just markup (to interact with the business layer), and it would be great if the page controller didn't need to know about the control. Since MVC user controls don't have codebehind, I can't see a good way to do this. How should you package the custom control? Package the control in a Merge Module (.msm) and add the .msm file to a Windows Installer project. Package the control into a cabinet project (.cab) and add the .cab file to a Windows Installer project. Create a separate directory for the control and then package it in a Windows Installer project along with the rest of the project files. Package the control as a Web setup project and create a link to that project from the Windows Installer project. Any ideas?

The only suggested solution I have found is about limiting the sql statement results. In my case, this is not possible. I need to find some other kind of solution.   • Windows Phone 7 Control Caching - 'Element is already the child of another element'

    I'm trying to speed up my windows phone 7 page load times. I have a 'static' page that has a dynamically created in a Panorama control - static meaning that the content never changes. On the first load I look at my config file, create the individual PanoramaItem controls and add them to the main Panorama control. I'm trying to keep a List in a static place so that the initial creation would only happen once and I could just add a fully rendered version to my Panorama control when the page was rendered. Works fine on first load, but when I try to add the cached PanoramaItems to the Panorama control I get the message "Element is already the child of another element". This makes sense since I already added before. But I can see a way to disconnect the PanoramaItems with the first Panorama control... I could be going about the control caching thing all wrong as well... Let me know if there's another way to do this.

  • WebBrowser Control in ATL window. How to free up memory on window unload? I'm stuck.

    Hello there. I have a Win32 C++ Application. There is the _tWinMain(...) Method with GetMessage(...) in a while loop at the end. Before GetMessage(...) I create the main window with HWND m_MainHwnd = CreateWindowExW(WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW | WS_EX_LAYERED, CAxWindow::GetWndClassName(), _TEXT("http://www.-website-.com"), WS_POPUP, 0, 0, 1024, 768, NULL, NULL, m_Instance, NULL); ShowWindow(m_MainHwnd) If I do not create the main window, my application needs about 150K in memory. But with creating the main window with the WebBrowser Control inside, the memory usage increases to 8500K. But, I want to dynamically unload the main window. My _tWinMain(...) keeps running! Im unloading with DestroyWindow(m_MainHwnd) But the WebBrowser control won't unload and free up it's memory used! Application memory used is still 8500K! I can also get the WebBrowser Instance or with some additional code the WebBrowser HWND IWebBrowser2* m_pWebBrowser2; CAxWindow wnd = (CAxWindow)m_MainHwnd; HRESULT hRet = wnd.QueryControl(IID_IWebBrowser2, (void**)&m_pWebBrowser2); So I tried to free up the memory used by main window and WebBrowser control with (let's say it's experimental): if(m_pWebBrowser2) m_pWebBrowser2->Release(); DestroyWindow(m_hwndWebBrowser); //<-- just analogous OleUninitialize(); No success at all. I also created a wrapper class which creates the main window. I created a pointer and freed it up with delete: Wrapper* wrapper = new Wrapper(); //wrapper creates main window inside and shows it //...do some stuff delete(wrapper); No success. Still 8500K. So please, how can I get rid of the main window and it's WebBrowser control and free up the memory, returning to about 150K. Later I will recreate the window.   • C# 4.0: Dynamic Programming

    The major feature of C# 4.0 is dynamic programming. Not just dynamic typing, but dynamic in broader sense, which means talking to anything that is not statically typed to be a .NET object. Dynamic Language Runtime The Dynamic Language Runtime (DLR) is piece of technology that unifies dynamic programming on the .NET platform, the same way the Common Language Runtime (CLR) has been a common platform for statically typed languages. The CLR always had dynamic capabilities. You could always use reflection, but its main goal was never to be a dynamic programming environment and there were some features missing. The DLR is built on top of the CLR and adds those missing features to the .NET platform. The Dynamic Language Runtime is the core infrastructure that consists of: Expression Trees The same expression trees used in LINQ, now improved to support statements. Dynamic Dispatch Dispatches invocations to the appropriate binder. Call Site Caching For improved efficiency. Dynamic languages and languages with dynamic capabilities are built on top of the DLR. IronPython and IronRuby were already built on top of the DLR, and now, the support for using the DLR is being added to C# and Visual Basic. Other languages built on top of the CLR are expected to also use the DLR in the future. Underneath the DLR there are binders that talk to a variety of different technologies: .NET Binder Allows to talk to .NET objects. JavaScript Binder Allows to talk to JavaScript in SilverLight. IronPython Binder Allows to talk to IronPython. IronRuby Binder Allows to talk to IronRuby. COM Binder Allows to talk to COM. Whit all these binders it is possible to have a single programming experience to talk to all these environments that are not statically typed .NET objects. The dynamic Static Type Let’s take this traditional statically typed code: Calculator calculator = GetCalculator(); int sum = calculator.Sum(10, 20); Because the variable that receives the return value of the GetCalulator method is statically typed to be of type Calculator and, because the Calculator type has an Add method that receives two integers and returns an integer, it is possible to call that Sum method and assign its return value to a variable statically typed as integer. Now lets suppose the calculator was not a statically typed .NET class, but, instead, a COM object or some .NET code we don’t know he type of. All of the sudden it gets very painful to call the Add method: object calculator = GetCalculator(); Type calculatorType = calculator.GetType(); object res = calculatorType.InvokeMember("Add", BindingFlags.InvokeMethod, null, calculator, new object[] { 10, 20 }); int sum = Convert.ToInt32(res); And what if the calculator was a JavaScript object? ScriptObject calculator = GetCalculator(); object res = calculator.Invoke("Add", 10, 20); int sum = Convert.ToInt32(res); For each dynamic domain we have a different programming experience and that makes it very hard to unify the code. With C# 4.0 it becomes possible to write code this way: dynamic calculator = GetCalculator(); int sum = calculator.Add(10, 20); You simply declare a variable who’s static type is dynamic. dynamic is a pseudo-keyword (like var) that indicates to the compiler that operations on the calculator object will be done dynamically. The way you should look at dynamic is that it’s just like object (System.Object) with dynamic semantics associated. Anything can be assigned to a dynamic. dynamic x = 1; dynamic y = "Hello"; dynamic z = new List<int> { 1, 2, 3 }; At run-time, all object will have a type. In the above example x is of type System.Int32. When one or more operands in an operation are typed dynamic, member selection is deferred to run-time instead of compile-time. Then the run-time type is substituted in all variables and normal overload resolution is done, just like it would happen at compile-time. The result of any dynamic operation is always dynamic and, when a dynamic object is assigned to something else, a dynamic conversion will occur. Code Resolution Method double x = 1.75; double y = Math.Abs(x); compile-time double Abs(double x) dynamic x = 1.75; dynamic y = Math.Abs(x); run-time double Abs(double x) dynamic x = 2; dynamic y = Math.Abs(x); run-time int Abs(int x) The above code will always be strongly typed. The difference is that, in the first case the method resolution is done at compile-time, and the others it’s done ate run-time. IDynamicMetaObjectObject The DLR is pre-wired to know .NET objects, COM objects and so forth but any dynamic language can implement their own objects or you can implement your own objects in C# through the implementation of the IDynamicMetaObjectProvider interface. When an object implements IDynamicMetaObjectProvider, it can participate in the resolution of how method calls and property access is done. The .NET Framework already provides two implementations of IDynamicMetaObjectProvider: DynamicObject : IDynamicMetaObjectProvider The DynamicObject class enables you to define which operations can be performed on dynamic objects and how to perform those operations. For example, you can define what happens when you try to get or set an object property, call a method, or perform standard mathematical operations such as addition and multiplication. ExpandoObject : IDynamicMetaObjectProvider The ExpandoObject class enables you to add and delete members of its instances at run time and also to set and get values of these members. This class supports dynamic binding, which enables you to use standard syntax like sampleObject.sampleMember, instead of more complex syntax like sampleObject.GetAttribute("sampleMember").
