• How to access static members in a Velocity template?

  I'm not sure if there is a way to do this in Velocity or not: I have a User POJO which a property named Status, which looks like an enum (but it is not, since I am stuck on Java 1.4), the definition looks something like this: public class User { // default status to User private Status status = Status.USER; public void setStatus(Status status) { this.status = status; } public Status getStatus() { return status; } And Status is a static inner class: public static final class Status { private String statusString; private Status(String statusString) { this.statusString = statusString; } public final static Status USER = new Status("user"); public final static Status ADMIN = new Status("admin"); public final static Status STATUS_X = new Status("blah"); //.equals() and .hashCode() implemented as well } With this pattern, a user status can easily be tested in a conditional such as if(User.Status.ADMIN.equals(user.getStatus())) ... ... without having to reference any constants for the status ID, any magic numbers, etc. However, I can't figure out how to test these conditionals in my Velocity template with VTL. I'd like to just print a simple string based upon the user's status, such as: Welcome <b>${user.name}</b>! <br/> <br/> #if($user.status == com.company.blah.User.Status.USER) You are a regular user #elseif($user.status == com.company.blah.User.Status.ADMIN) You are an administrator #etc... #end But this throws an Exception that looks like org.apache.velocity.exception.ParseErrorException: Encountered "User" at webpages/include/dashboard.inc[line 10, column 21] Was expecting one of: "[" ... From the VTL User Guide, there is no mention of accessing a Java class/static member directly in VTL, it appears that the right hand side (RHS) of a conditional can only be a number literal, string literal, property reference, or method reference. So is there any way that I can access static Java properties/references in a Velocity template? I'm aware that as a workaround, I could embed the status ID or some other identifier as a reference in my controller (this is a web MVC application using Velocity as the View technology), but I strongly do not want to embed any magic numbers or constants in the view layer.

• Is there any alternative to obfuscation to make it harder to get any string in javascript?

  I use DropBox and I've had some trouble reaching to my files from other computers: I not always want to login to anything when I'm in a public computer, but I like being able to reach my stuff from wherever I am. So I've made a simple little application that when put in the public folder, ran and given the right UID, creates (still in your public folder) an HTML of all the content in the folder (including subfolders) as a tree of links. But I didn't risk loading it anywhere, since there are slightly private things in there (yes, I know that the folder's name is "PUBLIC"). So I've came up with the idea to make it a simple login page, given the right password, the rest of the page should load. brilliant!, but how? If I did this by redirecting to other HTML on the same folder, I'd still put the html link in the web history and the "url's accessed" history of the administrator. So I should generate itin the same page. I've done it. And currently the page is a textbox and a button, and only if you type in the right password (asked by the generator) the rest of the page loads. The fault is that everything (password, URL's) is easily reachable through the sourcecode. Now, assuming I only want to avoid silly people to get it all too easily, not make a bulletproof all-content-holding NSA certified website, I though about some ways to make these informations a bit harder to get. As you may have already figured, I use a streamwritter to write a .HTM file (head, loop through links, bottom), then it's extremely configurable, and I can come up with a pretty messy-but-working c# code, though my javascript knowledge is not that good. Public links in DropBox look like this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3045472/img.png Summarizing: How do I hide stuff (MAINLY the password, of course) in my source-code so that no bumb-a-joe that can read, use a computer and press CTRL+U can reach to my stuff too easily ? PS.: It's not that personal, if someone REALLY wants it, it could never be 100% protected, and if it was that important, I wouldnt put it in the public folder, also, if the dude really wants to get it that hard, he should deserve it. PS2.: "Use the ultra-3000'tron obfuscator!!11" is not a real answer, since my javascript is GENERATED by my c# program. PS3.: I don't want other solutions as "use a serverside application and host it somewhere to redirect and bla bla" or "compress the links in a .RAR file and put a password in it" since I'm doing this ALSO to learn, and I want the thrill of it =)

• ColdFusion's cfquery failing silently

  I have a query that retrieves a large amount of data. <cfsetting requesttimeout="9999999" > <cfquery name="randomething" datasource="ds" timeout="9999999" > SELECT col1, col2 FROM table </cfquery> <cfdump var="#randomething.recordCount#" /> <!---should be about 5 million rows ---> I can successfully retrieve the data with python's cx_Oracle and using sys.getsizeof on the python list returns 22621060, so about 21 megabytes. ColdFusion does not return an error on the page, and I can't find anything in any of the logs. Why is cfdump not showing the number of rows? Additional Information The reason for doing it this way is because I have about 8000 smaller queries to run against the randomthing query. In other words when I run those 8000 queries against the database it takes hours for that process to complete. I suspect this is because I am competing with several other database users, and the database is getting bogged down. The 8000 smaller queries are getting counts of col1 over a period of col2. SELECT count(col1) as count WHERE col2 < 20121109 AND col2 > 20121108 According to Adam Cameron's suggestions. cflog is suggesting that the query isn't finishing. I tried changing the queries timeout both in the code and in the CFIDE/administrator, apparently CF9 no long respects the timeout attribute, regardless of what I tried I couldn't get the query to timeout. I also started playing around with the maxrows attribute to see if I could discern any information that way. when maxrows is set to 1300000 everything works fine when maxrows is 1400000 or greater I get this error when maxrows is 2000000 I observe my original problem Update So this isn't a limit of cfquery. By using QueryNew then looping over it to add data and I can get well past the 2 million mark without any problems. I also created a ThinClient datasource using the information in this question, I didn't observe any change in behavior. The messages on the database end are SQL*Net message from client and SQL*Net more data to client I just discovered that by using the thin client along with blockfactor1="100" I can retrieve more rows (appx. 3000000).

• Jboss logging issue - pl check this

  I’m Working as deployer and server administrator. We use Jboss 4.0x AS to deploy our applications. The issue I'm facing is, Whenever we redeploy/restart the server, server.log is getting created but after sometime the logging goes off. Yes it is not at all updating the server.log file. Due to this, we could not trace the other critical issues we have. Actually we have two separate nodes and we do deploy/restarting the server separately on two nodes. We are facing the issue in both of our test and production environment. I could not trace out where exactly the issue is. Could you please help me in resolving the issue? If we have any other issues, we can check the log files. If log itself is not getting updated/logged, how can we move further in analyzing the issues without the recent/updated logs? • How can this PHP/FQL code be modified to increase the performance and usability?

  I try to get some insights from the pages I am administrator on Facebook. What my code does, it gets the IDs of the pages I want to work with through mySQL. I did not include that part though.After this, I get the page_id, name and fan_count of each of those facebook IDs and are saved in fancounts[]. Using the IDs ( pages[] ) I get two messages max from each page. There may be no messages, there may be 1 or 2 messages max. Possibly I will increase it later. messages[] holds the messages of each page. I have two problems with it. It has a very slow performance I can't find a way to echo the data like this: ID - Name of the page - Fan Count Here goes the first message Here goes the second one //here is a break ID - Name of the page 2 - Fan Count Here goes the first message of page 2 Here goes the second one of page 2 My questions are, how can the code be modified to increase performance and show the data as above? I read about fql.multiquery. Can it be used here? Please provide me with code examples. • How to use Mozilla ActiveX Control without registry

  I've been using the IE Browser component that is part of Windows. But I'm running into problems with security settings. For example, users get security warnings on pages with Javascript. So I'm looking at using the Mozilla ActiveX control instead. It's especially nice because it has a compatible interface. It works well if I let it install the control in the registry. But my users don't always have administrator rights to install things in the registry. So I'm trying to figure out how to use the control without registry changes. I'm using DllGetClassObject to get the class factory (IID_ICLASSFACTORY) and then CoRegisterClassObject to register it. All the API calls appear to succeed. And when I create an AtlAxWin window with the CLSID, it also appears to work. But when I try to call Navigate on the AtlAxGetControl it doesn't work - the interface doesn't have Navigate. I would show the code but it's in an obscure language (Suneido) so it wouldn't mean much. An example in C or C++ would be easy for me to translate. Or an example in another dynamic language like Python or Ruby might be helpful. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Maybe I'm passing the wrong thing to CoRegisterClassObject? The MSDN documentation isn't very clear on what to pass and I haven't found any good examples. Or if there is another approach, I'm ok with that too. Note: I'm using the AtlAxWin window class so I'm not directly creating the control and can't use this approach. Another option is registry free com with a manifest. But again, I couldn't find a good example, especially since I'm not using Visual Studio. I tried to use the MT manifest tool, but couldn't figure it out. I don't think I can use DLL redirection since that doesn't get around the registry issue AFAIK. Another possibility is using WebKit but it seems even harder to use.

• Perl ftp question, like the previous ones ...

  I need to move or copy a simple text file from one web site to another web site. I have administrator rights to both web sites. The first web site has a large data file (again, just a text file), certain records are selected and written to a team file (for entry into a tournament). Next I go through paypal and pay for the entries. The second site is for the the club running the tournament and I use IPN to return to a script on their site and if it verified, I add the team memebers into the master file for the tournament. I am limited to the ONE IPN script on the tournament site because I have a ton of other entries that come in from all over. The first site has the rosters for the state and no need to type all that data from each club, use the rosters like I use for all the non-paypal tounamenmts. I can ftp the team file to the second server and place it in the folder just like it was created from scratch from that server originally and everything should go fine but I took the examples and tried them and nothing. • hashing password giving different results

  I am taking over a system that a previous developer wrote. The system has an administrator approve a user account and when they do that the system uses the following method to hash a password and save it to the database. It sends the unhashed password to the user. When the user logs in the system uses the exact same method to hash what the user enters and compares it to the database value. We've run into a couple of times when the database entry doesn't match the user's entry whey they should. So it appears that the method isn't always hashing the value the same. Does anyone know if this method of hashing isn't reliable and how to make it reliable? • Java compiler rejects variable declaration with parameterized inner class

  I have some Groovy code which works fine in the Groovy bytecode compiler, but the Java stub generated by it causes an error in the Java compiler. I think this is probably yet another bug in the Groovy stub generator, but I really can't figure out why the Java compiler doesn't like the generated code. But ProcessingQueueMember is not a raw type as the compiler claims, it is a generic type: private class ProcessingQueueMember <E> extends java.lang.Object implements groovy.lang.GroovyObject { ... I am very confused as to why the compiler thinks that the type Queue<ProcessingQueueMember<T>> is invalid. The Groovy source compiles fine, and the generated Java code looks perfectly correct to me too. What am I missing here? Is it something to do with the fact that the type in question is a nested class? (in case anyone is interested, I have filed this bug report relating to the issue in this question) Edit: Turns out this was indeed a stub compiler bug- this issue is now fixed in 1.8.9, 2.0.4 and 2.1, so if you're still having this issue just upgrade to one of those versions. :)

  I need a script that can run and pull information from any drive on a Windows operating system (Windows Server 2003), listing all files and folders which contain the following fields: The server is quite big and is within our domain. The required information is: Full file path (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\testPage.doc) File type (e.g. word document, spreadsheet, database etc) Size When Created When last modified When last accessed Also the script will need to convert that data to a CSV file, which later on I can modify and process in Excel. I can imagine that this data will be huge but I still need it. I am logged in as an administrator on the server and the script will need to also process protected files. As in previous posts I have read that the script will stop if such files are processed. I need to make sure that not a single file is skipped. Please note I have asked this question before but still have not got a working script.   I'm creating an admin module for my client that gives then access to some administration functionality concerning their content. All good. The behavior I want is that my client can only see the Projects section when they log in. I've accomplished this by ticking the "manage projects" permission for authenticated users. Now to give my client actual access to the Administration area I also need to tick "access administration pages" under the "system module" in the users permissions section. This works great, when I log in as my client I can only see the Projects section in the Administration area. There is one thing though, I my Navigation menu shown in the left column I can see the following items: - Administer - Projects - Content management - Site building - Site configuration - User management I was expecting only the see Administer and Projects, not the other ones. When I click e.g. Content Management I get a Content Management titled page with no options. Same for Site Building, Site Configuration and User Management. What's really odd is that Reports is not being shown which is also a top level Administration section. Why are these other items, besides my Projects section, being shown and how can I make them stop from appearing if I'm not logged in as administrator?

• How to build this encryption system that allows multiple users/objects.

  Hello! I am trying to figure out how to create an optimal solution for my project. I made this simple picture in Photoshop to try to illustrate the problem and how i want it (if possible). Illustrative image Ill also try to explain it based on the picture. First off we have a couple of objects to the left, these objects all get encrypted with their own encryption key (EKey on the picture) and then stored in the database. On the other side we have different users placed into roles (one user can be in a lot of roles) and the roles are associated with different objects. So one person only has access the to the objects that the role provides. So for instance Role A might have access to Object A and B. Role B have access only to Object C and Role C have access to all objects. Nothing strange in that, right? Different roles have different objects that they can access. Now to the problem part. Each user has to login with his/her username/password and then he/she gets access to the objects that his/her roles provide. All the objects are encrypted so she needs to get a decryption key somehow. I don't want to store the encryption key as a text string on the server. It should be, if possible, decrypted using the users password (along with the role) or similar. That way you have to be a user on the server in order to decrypt an object an to work with it. I was thinking about making a public/private key encryption system, but i am kinda stuck on how to give the different users the decryption key to the objects. Since i need to be able to move users to and from roles, add new users, add new roles and create/delete objects. There will be one administrator that then adds some data to allow the users in that role to get the decryption key to decrypt the object. Nothing is static and i am trying to get a picture of how this can be built or if there is a far better solution. The only criteria are: -Encrypted objects. -Decryption key should not be stored as text. -Different users have access to different objects. -Does NOT have to have roles.

• MEF C# Service - DLL Updating

  Currently, I have a C# service that runs off of many .dll's and has modules/plugins that it imports at startup. I would like to create an update system that basically stops the service, deletes any files it is told to delete (old versions), downloads new versions from a server, and starts the service. I believe I have coded this right except for the delete part, because as long as I am not overwriting anything, the file will download. If I try to overwrite something, it won't work, which is why I am trying to delete it before hand. However, when I do File.Delete() to the path that I want to do, it gives me access to the path is denied. I though stopping the service would work, but apparently not. I have also checked the files and they are not read-only (but the folder is, which is located in Program Files, however I couldn't seem to get it to not be read-only programmatically or manually). The service is also being run as an administrator (NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM). I've read about unloading the AppDomain but AppDomain.Unload(AppDomain.CurrentDomain); returned an exception as well. Not too sure even if this is a problem with MEF or my program just not having the correct permissions...I would assume that it's mainly because the file is in use.

• SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise won't install on Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise

  I've been trying to install SQL Server on a new Windows Server 2008. I have tried everything but I haven't been able to narrow down the problem. When the installation fails I get " Exit code (Decimal): -2068643839". The problem with this is that according to Microsoft this is a generic error code. I follow their guide to look into the detail.txt inside C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\ But I can't find something that specifies the exact error. Any suggestions ? When manipulating Handler Mappings using the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespace, is there a way to remove the <remove name="handler name"> tag added at the site level. For example, I have a site which inherits all the handler mappings from the global handler mappings configuration. • Windows 7 Boot to VHD using a VHD clone of the system drive

  This seems like a not too difficult problem, and, after several hurdles, I'm maddeningly close. But I can't quite get there. I'm running Windows 7 in development shop. I want to start using VS2010 to work on some stuff that won't be released for awhile. My boss said no beta code on the production machine, but I could run VS2010 for this project IF I could do it in an isolated environment, like a virtual PC. Well, I've used the beta and RC of Win7 on VPC's before, and it was painfully slow because of the VPC environment. But everyone has been singing the praises of Windows 7's boot-to-VHD capability, where only the disk is virtualized, and you're actually running on the hardware. Supposed to be little slower, but nowhere near the speed penalty of VPC. I've spent a fair amount of time getting everything installed the way I want it. So I figured, I'll just clone my system drive using Disk2VHD, and boot off of that, and then install VS2010 onto that. (I keep most of my user data, including all my projects, in a separate partition, so that wouldn't have to be duplicated and would still be available.) Well, I had some difficulties with that, owing mainly to the fact that I was using an old version of Disk2VHD - (get the latest if you're going to try it.) But I did finally get it to boot. (Scott Hanselman has a good blog post on boot to VHD). But it wasn't exactly what I was expecting or hoping for. What I expected was that the VHD would become the C: drive, and the original (physical) C: drive would be either hidden or mounted under a different letter, and thus isolated and protected from any changes. What you actually get is that the VHD becomes the D: drive AND you boot from the D: drive, BUT your original C: drive is still there. Which is sort of okay EXCEPT that the Registry on the VHD is a clone of the Registry on C: drive, and includes many hard-coded references to C:. So the result is that some things come from (and modify) D: (the VHD), but some things come from (and modify) C:. (If you open a cmd prompt and do a SET to look at your environment variables, you will see a mixture of D:\ and C:\ paths.) So I don't really have an isolated environment. Most importantly, %ProgramFiles% is still set to C:\Program Files. What I really need is a tool that can access the registry files on the mounted VHD AS FILES, not as registry entries, and do a global search and replace on all the C:\ in strings to D:. I haven't found such a program. (I've tried to do it with a program called Registry Replace, but, even when running as Administrator, there are certain entries that the Registry won't let you change.) Does anyone know of one? Or any other solution to my problem (other than starting from scratch with a clean VHD and installing Win7 and all my programs on it.)?

  SQL Server (2012 Enterprise) Browser service failing I have a problem as described below: I have an instance of SQL Server 2012 Enterprise (thanks to MSDN) for local development on my PC. I try to start SQL server Browser Service from SQL Server Configuration Manager and it takes a long time to fail, then fails with: The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details. I checked event logs and found these errors in this order (all within the same 1-second time frame): The SQL Server Browser service port is unavailable for listening, or invalid. The SQL Server Browser service was unable to establish SQL instance and connectivity discovery. The SQL Server Browser is enabling SQL instance and connectivity discovery support. The SQL Server Browser service was unable to establish Analysis Services discovery. The SQL Server Browser service has started. The SQL Server Browser service has shutdown. I checked firewall rules and both port 1433 (TCP) and 1434 (UDP) are wide open, just as well - the programs and service binary had been "allowed through windows firewall". I started the "Analysis Services" service by hand and it works fine. Browser still won't start. Some History: Installed SQL 2008 R2 express advanced Installed SQL2012 Express advanced Uninstalled SQL 2008 R2 express advanced Installed 2012 SSDT and lots of features with Express install Installed a unique instance of SQL 2012 Enterprise with all features Uninstalled SSDT and reinstalled SSDT with Enterprise (solved a different problem) Uninstalled SQL 2012 Express Uninstalled SQL 2012 Enterprise Removed anything with "SQL" in the name from Control panel "Programs and features" Installed SQL 2012 Enterprise without Analysis services (This is where I noticed SQL Browser service was failing to start even on the install) Added the feature of Analysis Services (and everything else) via the installer (Browser continued to fail to start on the install) ======================== Other interesting facts: opening a command window with administrator and trying to run sqlbrowser.exe manually yielded: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. • Ubuntu 9.10 and Squid 2.7 Transparent Proxy TCP_DENIED

  Hi, We've spent the last two days trying to get squid 2.7 to work with ubuntu 9.10. The computer running ubuntu has two network interfaces: eth0 and eth1 with dhcp running on eth1. Both interfaces have static ip's, eth0 is connected to the Internet and eth1 is connected to our LAN. We have followed literally dozens of different tutorials with no success. • DCOM Authentication Fails to use Kerberos, Falls back to NTLM

  I have a webservice that is written in Classic ASP. In this web service it attempts to create a VirtualServer.Application object on another server via DCOM. This fails with Permission Denied. However I have another component instantiated in this same webservice on the same remote server, that is created without problems. This component is a custom-in house component. The webservice is called from a standalone EXE program that calls it via WinHTTP. It has been verified that WinHTTP is authenticating with Kerberos to the webservice successfully. The user authenticated to the webservice is the Administrator user. The EXE to webservice authentication step is successful and with kerberos. I have verified the DCOM permissions on the remote computer with DCOMCNFG. The default limits allow administrators both local and remote activation, both local and remote access, and both local and remote launch. The default component permissions allow the same. This has been verified. The individual component permissions for the working component are set to defaults. The individual component permissions for the VirtualServer.Application component are also set to defaults. Based upon these settings, the webservice should be able to instantiate and access the components on the remote computer. Setting up a Wireshark trace while running both tests, one with the working component and one with the VirtualServer.Application component reveals an intresting behavior. When the webservice is instantiating the working, custom, component, I can see the request on the wire to the RPCSS endpoint mapper first perform the TCP connect sequence. Then I see it perform the bind request with the appropriate security package, in this case kerberos. After it obtains the endpoint for the working DCOM component, it connects to the DCOM endpoint authenticating again via Kerberos, and it successfully is able to instantiate and communicate. On the failing VirtualServer.Application component, I again see the bind request with kerberos go to the RPCC endpoing mapper successfully. However, when it then attempts to connect to the endpoint in the Virtual Server process, it fails to connect because it only attempts to authenticate with NTLM, which ultimately fails, because the webservice does not have access to the credentials to perform the NTLM hash. Why is it attempting to authenticate via NTLM? Additional Information: Both components run on the same server via DCOM Both components run as Local System on the server Both components are Win32 Service components Both components have the exact same launch/access/activation DCOM permissions Both Win32 Services are set to run as Local System The permission denied is not a permissions issue as far as I can tell, it is an authentication issue. Permission is denied because NTLM authentication is used with a NULL username instead of Kerberos Delegation Constrained delegation is setup on the server hosting the webservice. The server hosting the webservice is allowed to delegate to rpcss/dcom-server-name The server hosting the webservice is allowed to delegate to vssvc/dcom-server-name The dcom server is allowed to delegate to rpcss/webservice-server The SPN's registered on the dcom server include rpcss/dcom-server-name and vssvc/dcom-server-name as well as the HOST/dcom-server-name related SPNs The SPN's registered on the webservice-server include rpcss/webservice-server and the HOST/webservice-server related SPNs Anybody have any Ideas why the attempt to create a VirtualServer.Application object on a remote server is falling back to NTLM authentication causing it to fail and get permission denied? Additional information: When the following code is run in the context of the webservice, directly via a testing-only, just-developed COM component, it fails on the specified line with Access Denied.
