    I am creating a classic game in 3d that deals with asteriods and you have to shoot them and avoid being hit from them. I can generate the asteroids just fine and the ship can shoot bullets just fine. But the asteroids always hit the ship even it doesn't look they are even close. I know 2D collision very well but not 3D so can someone please shed some light to my problem. Thanks in advance.     I am using same network for 2 days and everything was normal. However, today even though it shows me as connected to the network, I do not have internet connection. If I use ethernet cable instead of wireless, I am still able to connect to the internet. Also my friends are able to connect to the wireless network and they can get internet connection.     I have a couple of columns in jqGrid with edittype="select". How can I read the option value of the value currently selected in a particular row? e.g.: When I provide the following option, how do I get "FE" for FedEx, etc. editoption: { value: “FE:FedEx; IN:InTime; TN:TNT” } getRowData() for the rowId/cellname returns only the text/displayed component of the select. If I set a "change" data event on the column, the underlying fires change events only on mouse clicks, and not keyboard selects (there's numerous references to generic selects and mouse/keyboard issues). Bottomline, when a new value is selected, I need to know the option value at the time of the change, and also prior to posting to the server.

  • Help with Design for Vacation Tracking System (C#/.NET/Access/WebServices/SOA/Excel) [closed]

    I have been tasked with developing a system for tracking our company's paid time-off (vacation, sick days, etc.) At the moment we are using an Excel spreadsheet on a shared network drive, and it works pretty well, but we are concerned that we won't be able to "trust" employees forever and sometimes we run into locking issues when two people try to open the spreadsheet at once. So we are trying to build something a little more robust. I would like some input on this design in terms of maintainability, scalability, extensibility, etc. It's a pretty simple workflow we need to represent right now: I started with a basic MS Access schema like this: Employees (EmpID int, EmpName varchar(50), AllowedDays int) Vacations (VacationID int, EmpID int, BeginDate datetime, EndDate datetime) But we don't want to spend a lot of time building a schema and database like this and have to change it later, so I think I am going to go with something that will be easier to expand through configuration. Right now the vacation table has this schema: Vacations (VacationID int, PropName varchar(50), PropValue varchar(50)) And the table will be populated with data like this: VacationID | PropName | PropValue -----------+--------------+------------------ 1 | EmpID | 4 1 | EmpName | James Jones 1 | Reason | Vacation 1 | BeginDate | 2/24/2010 1 | EndDate | 2/30/2010 1 | Destination | Spectate Swamp 2 | ... | ... I think this is a pretty good, extensible design, we can easily add new properties to the vacation like the destination or maybe approval status, etc. I wasn't too sure how to go about managing the database of valid properties, I thought of putting them in a separate PropNames table but it gets complicated to manage all the different data types and people say that you shouldn't put CLR type names into a SQL database, so I decided to use XML instead, here is the schema: <VacationProperties> <PropertyNames>EmpID,EmpName,Reason,BeginDate,EndDate,Destination</PropertyNames> <PropertyTypes>System.Int32,System.String,System.String,System.DateTime,System.DateTime,System.String</PropertyTypes> <PropertiesRequired>true,true,false,true,true,false</PropertiesRequired> </VacationProperties> I might need more fields than that, I'm not completely sure. I've used this code to implement the Web Services: public class VacationConfigurationService : WebService { [WebMethod] public void UpdateConfiguration(string xml) { // Above code goes here } } Which was pretty easy, although I'm still working on a way to validate that XML against some kind of schema as there's no error-checking yet. I also created a few different services for other operations like VacationSubmissionService, VacationReportService, VacationDataService, VacationAuthenticationService, etc. The whole Service Oriented Architecture looks like this: And because the workflow itself might change, I have been working on a way to integrate the WF workflow system with MS Visio, which everybody at the office already knows how to use so they could make changes pretty easily. We have a diagram that looks like the following (it's kind of hard to read but the main items are Activities, Authenticators, Validators, Transformers, Processors, and Data Connections, they're all analogous to the services in the SOA diagram above). The requirements for this system are: (Note - I don't control these, they were given to me by management) Main workflow must interface with Excel spreadsheet, probably through VBA macros (to ease the transition to the new system) Alerts should integrate with MS Outlook, Lotus Notes, and SMS (text messages). We also want to interface it with the company Voice Mail system but that is not a "hard" requirement. Performance requirements: Must handle 250,000 Transactions Per Second Should be able to handle up to 20,000 employees (right now we have 3) 99.99% uptime ("four nines") expected Must be secure against outside hacking, but users cannot be required to enter a username/password. Platforms: Must support Windows XP/Vista/7, Linux, iPhone, Blackberry, DOS 2.0, VAX, IRIX, PDP-11, Apple IIc. Time to complete: 6 to 8 weeks. My questions are: Is this a good design for the system so far? Am I using all of the recommended best practices for these technologies? How do I integrate the Visio diagram above with the Windows Workflow Foundation to call the ConfigurationService and persist workflow changes? Am I missing any important components? Will this be extensible enough to support any scenario via end-user configuration? Will the system scale to the above performance requirements? Will we need any expensive hardware to run it? Are there any "gotchas" I should know about with respect to cross-platform compatibility? For example would it be difficult to convert this to an iPhone app? How long would you expect this to take?     Hi, I have asked this question on asp.net forums (http://forums.asp.net/t/1545006.aspx) but i had no valid answer therefore i'll try this here as well. I was working on migrating MVC1 app to MVC2 today and i have come across a problem while changing the ValidationMessage to ValidationMessageFor implementation. The below is the selectlist in my View <%=Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.SecurityQuestions[0].Question, "Some Security question", new { @class = "form_element_select" })%> The below code works fine and i can see the validation message came from modelstate. <%= Html.ValidationMessage("SecurityQuestions_0__Question")%> but this one does not work: <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.SecurityQuestions[0].Question)%> SecurityQuestions is a generic list in my model public List<SecurityQuestion> SecurityQuestions { get; set; } Is this somewhat a bug in "ValidationMessageFor" or am i missing something here?

    I am trying to write a generic extension to turn a ManagementObjectCollection into a DataTable. This is just to make things easier for a startup script/program I am writing. I have ran into a problem with CimType.     I'm trying to deploy ASP.NET MVC 2 project (VS2010) to Win Server 2008 R2 It works perfectly on dev machine. But strange error occurs at Server 2008 R2: When .ascx file has header that uses generic type: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<MyProj.Web.Models.RangeViewModel>" %> Server reports Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<MyProj.Web.Models.RangeViewModel>'. But when I declare somewhere in .cs file type like public class AA : System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<MyProj.Web.Models.RangeViewModel> { } and use it instead in <%@ Control header. Then it works as it should. Am I missing something?

    I have a WPF application with the following KeyBinding on its main window: <KeyBinding Command="Commands:EditCommands.Undo" Gesture="CTRL+Z" /> <KeyBinding Command="Commands:EditCommands.Redo" Gesture="CTRL+Y" /> This makes the command respond to the shortcut fine. However, in all the places where I have embedded WinForms text boxes or rich text boxes, I've lost the ability to use those shortcuts. If I remove the above bindings, the WinForms shortcuts work fine. How can I support these shortcuts in both WinForms and WPF? I'd prefer a generic method since this problem is likely to affect many other commands with the same keybindings.

    I'm using MVVM (MVVM Light Toolkit) and have a property on the view model which exposes a list of objects. The objects contain two properties, both strings, which correlate to an abbreviation and a description. I want the ComboBox to expose the pairing as "abbreviation - description". If I use a data template, it does this easily. I have another property on the view model which represents the object that should display as selected -- the chosen item in the ComboBox. I'm binding the ItemsSource to the list, as it represents the universe of available selections, and am trying to bind the SelectedItem to this object. I'm killing myself trying to figure out why I can't get it to work, and feeling more like a fraud by the hour. In trying to learn why this works, I created the same approach with just a list of strings, and a selected string. This works perfectly. So, it clearly has something to do with the typing... perhaps something in choosing equality? Or perhaps it has to do with the data template?     How can I allow selected rows in a DataGridView (DGV) to be moved up or down. I have done this before with a ListView. Unfortunetly, for me, replacing the DGV is not an option (curses). By the way, the DGV datasource is a Generic Collection. The DGV has two buttons on the side, yes, UP & Down. Can anyone help point me in the right direction. I do have the code that I used for the ListView if it'll help (it did not help me).

    I would like to use or emulate a button like the gps button in the bottom left corner of the standard maps application on the iphone OS. The button behaves like a toggle button where gps is enabled or disabled depending on whether it is pushed and it may hold a small spinner component while the gps is finding your position. Does anyone know if this component can be easily constructed using default components? If no, what would be the best way to develop such a component? Is the crosshair/target icon a generic icon that I can re-use?

    I'm using Validation Application Block - Enterprise Library to validate parameters sent to my WCF Service operations. For instance, a certain operation requires the parameter to either be a 1 or 6, like so: [OperationContract(Name="GetEmployeesByRegion")] [FaultContract(typeof(ValidationFault))] List<Employees> GetEmployeesByRegion([DomainValidator(1,6)]int regionId); This works just fine i.e the validation fault occurs however, when the service is invoked by the client, a generic System.ServiceModel.FaultException is thrown. An the message indicates: "The creator of this fault did not specify a reason." Now, I could check the parameters myself before the service cal and throw a custom fault but that seems to defeat the purpose of attribute based validation of parameters using the Validation Application Block. Is there anyway to customize the error returned by the validation Fault? It is also possible I'm doing something completely wrong. I just want the caller to know that he/she should have passed in a 1 or 6 in the exception message. Is this possible?

And since this is a programming site, i'm not literally asking for the location where IE stores passwords, but which API ie uses to save passwords. At first i assumed that Microsoft was using the standard api: CredRead CredWrite which is used to save domain and generic program/web-site credentials. CredRead/CredWrite turn around and use CryptProtectData CryptUnprotectData to encrypt data with the current user's account. CredRead/CredWrite then store the data in some magical location, which contents you can see from the control panel: But i don't see IE passwords in there. So ie doesn't store passwords using CredRead/CredWrite. What api does IE use to store passwords, and if it uses CryptProtectData, where does it then store the protected data?
