• Moving a File While It's In Use -- How Does it work?

  I've noticed that on non-windows OS.... ie linux/mac i can do things like: - Send a zip to a friend over aim - Delete the file while it's in transfer And the transfer does not fail. Or, I can do operations like.. - start a movie - erase the file - the movie still plays to completion (read from disk, not just buffered in memory) Although the files are being "deleted", as i mentioned, they are actually being moved to a different location on the file system... ie a Trash directory or something. So it seems to me like the OS uses a pointer @ the file that is updated when it moves rather than accessing the files directly. Can anyone shed some light on how this AWESOME capability is actually implemented? I'm not even sure what to google to learn more about it. thank you.

• Can a high FPS negatively affect how a program runs?

  Yeah I know this is a broad question and will get down rated, I'm just hoping for some answer before it gets closed. Anyway, I'm using Slick 2D/Java to play around with graphics. I'm having some trouble with trying to move an image. The weird thing is, the code works just fine on my laptop, but the image sporadically moves to (0,0) and stops on my desktop. The only difference between the two is that it says the FPS is about 500 on my laptop and 6600 on my desktop. Can that affect it or does someone have any ideas for what to check on?

• Copy any file with a specific file extension in subfolders into a folder

  I found a script on here that would use 7zip and extract all the files in all the sub-folders of a specific folder and put them in their own folder using the script below. What I need is add to it or maybe use another script if i have to and specify where i want those files to go instead of putting them in their own folder within the folder. I don't know how to do this and hope someone would be able to help. • FileSystemWatcher.WaitForChanged returns, but there is still a lock on the file

  I have a program that send a document to a pdf printer driver and that driver prints to a particular directory. After the print I want to attach the pdf to an e-mail (MailMessage) and send it off. Right now, I send the document to the printer (wich spawns a new process) and then call a FileSystemWatcher.WaitForChanged(WaitForChangedResult.Created) but when the object is created, it's still not done "printing" and the pdf printer still has a lock on it, throwing an error when I try to attach that file to an e-mail. I've considered a plain Thread.Sleep(2000) or whatever, but that's far less than ideal. I considered putting the attachment code in a try/catch block and looping on failure, but again, that's just bad news. I can't really think of an elegant solution.

  i have the problem, that my batch process breaking up each time after call a other batch file. The batch files are used to run a make process out from IBM Rhapsody. There convert the call from Rhapsody to the Visual Studio tools. So nmake will be called from the batch after make different settings. The scripts aren’t written completely from me, I only adapt theme to run under both windows architecture versions, x86 and x64. The first script (vs2005_make.bat) will be called from Rhapsody and run to the “call” statement. The second script (Vcvars_VisualStudio2005.bat) runs to the end. But the first script isn’t resume working, at this point the process break up without a error message. I'm not very familiar with batch files, this is the first time I make more than simple console commands in a batch file. So I hope I have given all information’s which needed, otherwise ask me.   Hi I am trying to get a batch file to call an executable from the server and login. I have a monitoring program that allows me send and execute the script. OK here goes.... //x3400/NTE_test/test.exe /USER:student password Now this doesn't work. The path is right because when I type it in at the run menu in xp it works. Then I manually login and the script runs. How can I get this to login and run that exe I need it to? Part 2: Some of the machines have already logged in with the password saved (done manually).   Say I have written to a text file in this format: key1/value1 key2/value2 akey/withavalue anotherkey/withanothervalue I have a linked list like: struct Node { char *key; char *value; struct Node *next; }; to hold the values. How would I read key1 and value1? I was thinking of putting line by line in a buffer and using strtok(buffer, '/'). Would that work? What other ways could work, maybe a bit faster or less prone to error? Please include a code sample if you can!

  I have a document with dynamic image and dynamic text and would like the text around the image. The image is right aligned on the landscape page. • Problem including dynamic image in Eclipse BIRT 2.5.0 report on Windows

  I have a BIRT 2.5.0 report design with a dynamic image (URL is specified through report parameter, image formats tried - .png, .bmp). When running the report from our application on Ubuntu, everything renders OK. When doing exactly the same thing on Windows, there's following message instead of the actual image: Current report item is not supported in this report format. Same problem occurs when including image with a fixed URL - even though the image is displayed and loaded in the Report Designer, it's not rendered in report generated from our application. Again, this happens only on Windows. The only way I managed to get the image into a rendered report was through embedding it into the report design file, which is not suitable as the image has to be dynamic.

• Uploading image file from website on yahoo server causes 410 gone error message when trying to acces

  I have a form that lets users upload a photo of themselves. This seems to work. The photo does exist on the server once uploaded. When I try to access the file I get a "403 forbidden - you don't have permission to access this url on this sever" and also I get "Additionally, a 410 Gone error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." • Best Design pattern for social media file transfer

  Our system would like our clients to link their accounts with different social media sites like youtube, vimeo, facebook, myspace and so on. One of the benefits we would like to give to the user is to transfer, update and delete files they have uploaded to our sites and transfer them to the social media sites mentioned above. this files could be videos, images or audio. We started thinking about using a strategy pattern, as all of these sites share a common process ( authentication, connection, use the API to transfer/edit/delete the file ), but we soon realized that it may not work as me may want to use some of the extended functionality that is specific to each service (eg: associate a youtube video with a channel, or upload images to a specific album on facebook, and much, much more...) My question is, what would be the best Structural Design Patter to use for this scenario?

• Preserve time stamp when shrinking an image

  My digital camera takes pictures with a very high resolution, and I have a PIL script to shrink them to 800x600 (or 600x800). However, it would be nice for the resultant file to retain the original timestamp. I noticed in the docs that I can use a File object instead of a name in PIL's image save method, but I don't know if that will help or not. • File Encoding handling in Eclipse 3.5

  Hi, I use Eclipse 3.5 on Windows, with PDT and Subclipse plugins, with both legacy projects using ISO-8859-1 encoding (latin-1), and newers ones wich use UTF-8. I configured my workspace to use UTF-8, and I configured old projects to use latin-1. But every time I open an old project, it use UTF-8. With a workspace using latin-1 by default, I have the same problem with utf-8 projects edited as iso-8859-1. My encoding choice is written in the file .settings/org.eclipse.core.resources.prefs but seems to be never read. The only solution for now is to have a latin1 workspace, and an utf8 one.   I am creating an RSS reader application that requests the RSS from my server. I mean, the RSS is first downloaded to my server, then application downloads it from my server. I want to create RSS cache for this. And for example, each RSS would be refreshed every 1 minute. So, If 10 users request RSS of example.com in 1 minute, my server will download it only for the first time, and in other 9 requests, RSS will be loaded from cache. My question is, Should I use a Database (MSSQL) for this purpose? or I should use files? I have no limit in Database size nor in file size... EDIT: I'm using ASP.NET for the server.

• Packing a file into an ELF executable

  Hello, I'm currently looking for a way to add data to an already compiled ELF executable, i.e. embedding a file into the executable without recompiling it. I could easily do that by using cat myexe mydata > myexe_with_mydata, but I couldn't access the data from the executable because I don't know the size of the original executable. Does anyone have an idea of how I could implement this ? I thought of adding a section to the executable or using a special marker (0xBADBEEFC0FFEE for example) to detect the beginning of the data in the executable, but I do not know if there is a more beautiful way to do it.   Hi there, I'm having an issue getting files loaded into an app called GCS, by dragging them onto the executable. GCS can be invoked on Windows with a bat file, which goes like this: @echo off start javaw -Xmx256M -jar "GURPS Character Sheet.app/Contents/Resources/Java/GCS.jar" %* If I hard code a filepath in place of the batch argument wildcard (with quotes), it works. If I run the debugger with a filepath argument it works. If I echo %, it gives me the correct filename with quotes around it. If I add quotes around % it still breaks. I have a disconnect here between DOS and Java, and I'm at a loss. Does anyone recognize this problem? Thanks in advance.

  i have this issue working but i would like to know if there is a better way of adding the file extension? what i am doing right now is: String filePath = chooser.getSelectedFile().getAbsoluteFile() + ".html"; im adding the extension hard coded. and then saving to it. just wondering if there is a more robust/logical manner this can be implemented? thank you for your time. EDIT: i ask this as i would like my app to be portable across platforms. so adding .html manually i may make this a windows only solution.
