  • glitchy access website, freezes for 30-60 sec intermittently

    - by afroboy
asp website with access database freezes for 30-60 seconds intermittently. The site is on an internal 2008 server. About 25 users access the site simultaneously. Is it just the limits of access or can i do something to improve the situation? change any timeout/refresh settings anywhere? or could it be a problem with the network?

  • abstract test case using python unittest

    - by gruszczy
Is it possible to create an abstract TestCase, that will have some test_* methods, but this TestCase won't be called and those methods will only be used in subclasses? I think I am going to have one abstract TestCase in my test suite and it will be subclassed for a few different implementation of a single interface. This is why all test methods are the some, only one, internal method changes. How can I do it in elegant way?

  • Android Developing App crashes on startup

    - by alexnavratil
    I currently develop an application which contains a custom ListView. I developed a custom array adapter. I think my app crashes here: ListView DirectoryView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.fileListView); So i think the error is in the activity_main.xml: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <ListView android:id="@+id/fileListView" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" > </ListView> Here is my LogCat: 09-09 11:19:21.254: E/Trace(1152): error opening trace file: No such file or directory (2) 09-09 11:19:21.484: D/AndroidRuntime(1152): Shutting down VM 09-09 11:19:21.484: W/dalvikvm(1152): threadid=1: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x40a13300) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{com.teamdroid.explorer/com.teamdroid.explorer.MainActivity}: java.lang.NullPointerException 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2059) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2084) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$600(ActivityThread.java:130) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:1195) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:137) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4745) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:511) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:786) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:553) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.Activity.findViewById(Activity.java:1825) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at com.teamdroid.explorer.listDirectory.getDirectory(listDirectory.java:20) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at com.teamdroid.explorer.MainActivity.onCreate(MainActivity.java:33) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.Activity.performCreate(Activity.java:5008) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.Instrumentation.callActivityOnCreate(Instrumentation.java:1079) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2023) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): ... 11 more Please can you help me. • How efficient is Python substring extraction?

    - by Cameron
I've got the entire contents of a text file (at least a few KB) in string myStr. Will the following code create a copy of the string (less the first character) in memory? myStr = myStr[1:] I'm hoping it just refers to a different location in the same internal buffer. If not, is there a more efficient way to do this? Thanks! Note: I'm using Python 2.5.

  • What is your custom exception hierrarchy?

    - by bonefisher
My question is: how would you create exception hierarchy in your application? Designing the architecture of an application, from my perspective, we could have three types of exceptions: the built-in (e.g.: InvalidOperationException) custom internal system faults (DB transaction failed on commit, DbTransactionFailedException) custom business exceptions (BusinessRuleViolationException) Class hierarchy: Exception MyAppInternalException DbTransactionFailedException MyServerTimeoutException ... MyAppBusinessRuleViolationException UsernameAlreadyExistsException ... where only MyAppInternalException & MyAppBusinessRuleViolationException would be catched.

  • Error when using Java String split

    - by Dan Howard
HI All, I've been using the basic split for a while - where I just parse out a string into an array based on a simple token like " " or ",". So of course a customer tries this: \\.br\ which fails miserably. I need to parse to an array of lines. The string for example looks like this: "LINE 1\\.br\\LINE 2\\.br\\LINE 3\\.br\\LINE 4\\.br\\" and this fails with java.util.regex.PatternSyntaxException: Unexpected internal error. Any ideas?

  • Find contacts created after a particular time-stamp

    - by frieza
Hi, is it possible to know the time at which a contact was created. Actually I want to find all contacts created after a particular time (say 12:00 pm 29th march 2010). I thought that the contact ids were assigned in an increasing order and just noting the largest id at that point would suffice. But with Android 2.0, the internal sync may merge a contact with an existing one and hence assign an older id to it. I hope I have made my question clear

  • Logging raw HTTP request/response in ASP.NET MVC & IIS7

    - by Greg Beech
I'm writing a web service (using ASP.NET MVC) and for support purposes we'd like to be able to log the requests and response in as close as possible to the raw, on-the-wire format (i.e including HTTP method, path, all headers, and the body) into a database. What I'm not sure of is how to get hold of this data in the least 'mangled' way. I can re-constitute what I believe the request looks like by inspecting all the properties of the HttpRequest object and building a string from them (and similarly for the response) but I'd really like to get hold of the actual request/response data that's sent on the wire. I'm happy to use any interception mechanism such as filters, modules, etc. and the solution can be specific to IIS7. However, I'd prefer to keep it in managed code only. Any recommendations? Edit: I note that HttpRequest has a SaveAs method which can save the request to disk but this reconstructs the request from the internal state using a load of internal helper methods that cannot be accessed publicly (quite why this doesn't allow saving to a user-provided stream I don't know). So it's starting to look like I'll have to do my best to reconstruct the request/response text from the objects... groan. Edit 2: Please note that I said the whole request including method, path, headers etc. The current responses only look at the body streams which does not include this information. Edit 3: Does nobody read questions around here? Five answers so far and yet not one even hints at a way to get the whole raw on-the-wire request. Yes, I know I can capture the output streams and the headers and the URL and all that stuff from the request object. I already said that in the question, see: I can re-constitute what I believe the request looks like by inspecting all the properties of the HttpRequest object and building a string from them (and similarly for the response) but I'd really like to get hold of the actual request/response data that's sent on the wire. If you know the complete raw data (including headers, url, http method, etc.) simply cannot be retrieved then that would be useful to know. Similarly if you know how to get it all in the raw format (yes, I still mean including headers, url, http method, etc.) without having to reconstruct it, which is what I asked, then that would be very useful. But telling me that I can reconstruct it from the HttpRequest/HttpResponse objects is not useful. I know that. I already said it. Please note: Before anybody starts saying this is a bad idea, or will limit scalability, etc., we'll also be implementing throttling, sequential delivery, and anti-replay mechanisms in a distributed environment, so database logging is required anyway. I'm not looking for a discussion of whether this is a good idea, I'm looking for how it can be done.

  • Bitshift in javascript

    - by pingvinus
I've got a really big number: 5799218898. And want to shift it right to 13 bits. So, windows-calculator or python gives me: 5799218898 13 | 100010100100001110011111100001 13 70791 | 10001010010000111 As expected. But Javascript: 5799218898 13 | 100010100100001110011111100001 13 183624 | 101100110101001000 I think it because of internal integer representation in javascript, but cannot find anything about that.

  • odd resharper indentation formatting for opject intializers

    - by bitbonk
For some strange reason when I have nested object intializers it always gets the last '}' wrong. It is not indented at all as shown in the following example: namespace MyNameSpace { internal static class MyClass { static MyClass() { var bla = new Bla { Name = "Bla" }; bla.Blub = new Blub { Name = "Blub", Blap = new Blap { Name = "Blap", Visible = true }, Blob = new Blob { Name = "Blob" }, Blib = new Blib { Blep = new Heater { Name = "Bleb" }, Id = 1, Blap = new Blap { Name = "Blap" } } // <---- wrong !!! }; } } } Any idea what I can do against it ?

  • Cube project doesn't work because of permissions

    - by sms
I'm doing "Multidimensional Project" with MS SQL Server 2012 (Server Data Tools - Visual Studio 2010 Shell). I can't run (debug) it. If the data source's impersonation information is set to "use the service account", this error occures: Error 2 Internal error: The operation terminated unsuccessfully. 0 0 Error 3 OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: Login failed for user 'NT Service\MSSQLServerOLAPService'.; 28000. 0 0 Error 4 Errors in the high-level relational engine. A connection could not be made to the data source with the DataSourceID of 'Data Warehouse', Name of 'Data Warehouse'. 0 0 Error 5 Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while the dimension, with the ID of 'Items', Name of 'Items' was being processed. 0 0 Error 6 Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while the 'Id' attribute of the 'Items' dimension from the 'Warehouse_MultidimensionalProject_Cube' database was being processed. 0 0 Error 7 Server: The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed. 0 0 I guessed that this account has no premissions but (1) I coudn't even add this account (it seems that it doesn't exist) and (2) how is that even possible for it to not have built-it poremissions? When I'm setting impersonation to "use the credentials of current user" (which is the owner of the data source, btw.), another error occures: Error 2 Internal error: The operation terminated unsuccessfully. 0 0 Error 3 The datasource, 'Data Warehouse', contains an ImpersonationMode that is not supported for processing operations. 0 0 Error 4 Errors in the high-level relational engine. • dates and times in emacs lisp

    - by Stephen
Hi, I understand emacs lisp is great for handling dates and times, but does it have a function to convert strings to internal representation of integers using formats like %Y, %m, %d, %H, %M, %S, and so on? And also, in the emacs reference manual, it says that times are lists of two or three integers, but is there a more formal specification or description? ~ Thanks ~

  • B- trees, B+ trees difference

    - by dta
In a B- tree you can store both keys and data in the internal/leaf nodes. But in a B+ tree you have to store the data in the leaf nodes only. Is there any advantage of doing the above in a B+ tree? Why not use B- trees instead of B+ trees everywhere? As intuitively they seem much faster. I mean why do you need to replicate the key(data) in a B+ tree?

RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{request_uri}!^/index\.htm RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.thedomain.co.uk [R=permanent,L] It displays the homepage if I navigate there but anything that meets the conditions (all appart from index.htm gives the server 500)

  • Have you ever crashed the compiler?

    - by Motti
Everyone (at least everyone who uses a compiled language) has faced compilation errors but how many times do you get to actually crash the compiler? I've had my fair share of "internal compiler errors" but most went away just by re-compiling. Do you have a (minimal) piece of code that crashes the compiler?

  • Unique element ID, even if element doesn't have one

    - by Robert J. Walker
I'm writing a GreaseMonkey script where I'm iterating through a bunch of elements. For each element, I need a string ID that I can use to reference that element later. The element itself doesn't have an id attribute, and I can't modify the original document to give it one (although I can make DOM changes in my script). I can't store the references in my script because when I need them, the GreaseMonkey script itself will have gone out of scope. Is there some way to get at an "internal" ID that the browser uses, for example? A Firefox-only solution is fine; a cross-browser solution that could be applied in other scenarios would be awesome. Edit: If the GreaseMonkey script is out of scope, how are you referencing the elements later? They GreaseMonkey script is adding events to DOM objects. I can't store the references in an array or some other similar mechanism because when the event fires, the array will be gone because the GreaseMonkey script will have gone out of scope. So the event needs some way to know about the element reference that the script had when the event was attached. And the element in question is not the one to which it is attached. Can't you just use a custom property on the element? Yes, but the problem is on the lookup. I'd have to resort to iterating through all the elements looking for the one that has that custom property set to the desired id. That would work, sure, but in large documents it could be very time consuming. I'm looking for something where the browser can do the lookup grunt work. Wait, can you or can you not modify the document? I can't modify the source document, but I can make DOM changes in the script. I'll clarify in the question. Can you not use closures? Closuses did turn out to work, although I initially thought they wouldn't. See my later post. It sounds like the answer to the question: "Is there some internal browser ID I could use?" is "No."

  • Why won't anyone accept public fields in C#?

    - by Dmitri Nesteruk
Seems like every C# static analyzer wants to complain when it sees a public field. But why? Surely there are cases where a public (or internal) field is enough, and there is no point in having a property with its get_ and set_ methods? What if I know for sure that I won't be redefining the field or adding to it (side effects are bad, right?) - shouldn't a simple field suffice?

  • Need for explanation: NetBIOS over TCP/IP on VMware network adapter disturbs access to network share

    - by gyrolf
(Moved here from StackOverflow) Some time ago nearly all workstations in our team (Windows XP SP2) exhibited intermittend but frequent delays when accessing shares on the network. Typically the first access to a share which hadn't been accessed for some time resulted in a nearly frozen workstation for up to 30 seconds. Then everything started working fine again. Using TCPView from Sysinternals I saw that during this delays there was a connection to the netbios-ssn port on the file server which was in state SYN_SENT. First try: Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP for the intranet network adapter. Problem solved, but I didn't like to manipulate our centrally managed network configuration for the intranet. Second try: Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP only for the VMWare network adapter (VMNet1 used for host only communications). Problem solved again! My questions: Why does NetBIOS over TCP/IP on one network adapter disturb NetBIOS over TCP/IP on another network adapter? Is this problem specific to VMWare network adapters? Has anybody else seen this phenomen? Additional information: VMWare Workstation version 6.0.3 At the time I started seriously analysing the problem it was no more possible to find out what had been changed to our systems at the time the problems started.

  • How to set username and password for SmtpClient object in .NET?

    - by Ryan
I see different versions of the constructor, one uses info from web.config, one specifies the host, and one the host and port. But how do I set the username and password to something different from the web.config? We have the issue where our internal smtp is blocked by some high security clients and we want to use their smtp server, is there a way to do this from the code instead of web.config?
