  • Java text to applet converter ... is there such a thing?

    - by Jahkr
Let's say you have this program: public class sample public static void main(String args[]) { System.out.println("Hello world!"); } } ... is there a converter that will turn it into this: import java.applet.Applet; import javax.swing.*; public class sample extends JApplet { public static JTextArea area; public void init() { area = new JTextArea(); add(area); area.append("Hello world!"); } } I mean, I can do it by hand... but it would take some time.

  • Windows Service suddenly doing nothing

    - by TB
Hi, My windows service is using a Thread (not a timer) which is always looping and sleeps for 1 second every loop using : evet.WaitOne(interval); When I start the service it works fine and I can see in the task manager that it is running, consuming and releasing memory, consuming processor ... etc that is all normal, but after a while (random amount of time) the service simply stops!! it is still there in the task manager but it is not consuming any processor work now and its consumption to the memory is not changing. it simply (died but still there in the task manager like a Zombie). I know that many exceptions might have happened during running the service (it is really doing many things) but all those exceptions are handled in Try catch blocks, so why is my "always looping" thread stops ??? This thread also logs every time he loops, when he is freezig in this way he is not logging anything (of course)

  • Java session facade not being found via InitialContext lookups

    - by Hugh Buchanan
I have a project that is Java EE 5 running on Glassfish. The IDE is Netbeans 6.7.1. We periodically have a very annoying problem with new session facades not being located via InitialContext: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: No object bound to name java:comp/env/GlobalConfigEntityFacadeLocal In my class (within the same EJB container), I can use the other session facades just fine. This sort of problem happens periodically, and a mixture of clean&build and deleting the build-impl.xml files from nbproject sometimes resolve this. We are not using ejb-jar.xml (stopped using that over a year ago, it is now an empty The code that is calling this is very straight forward: GlobalConfigEntityFacadeLocal globalConfigEntityFacade = null; try { InitialContext ic = new InitialContext(); globalConfigEntityFacade = (GlobalConfigEntityFacadeLocal) ic.lookup("java:comp/env/GlobalConfigEntityFacadeLocal"); ... } catch ( ... ) {} Any advice would be appreciated!!!! Cheers

  • For what purpose does java have a float primitive type?

    - by Roman
I heard plenty times different claims about float type in java. The most popular issues typicaly regard to converting float value to double and vice versa. I read (rather long time ago and not sure that it's actual now with new JVM) that float gives much worse performance then double. And it's also not recommended to use float in scientific applications which should have certain accuracy. I also remember that when I worked with AWT and Swing I had some problems with using float or double (like using Point2D.Float or Point2D.Double). So, I see only 2 advantages of float over double: it needs only 4 bytes while double needs 8 bytes JMM garantees that assignment operation is atomic with float variables while it's not atomic with double's. Are there any other cases where float is better then double? Do you use float's in your applications? It seems to me that the only valuable reason java has float is backward compatibility.

  • Problem creating calculations 'engine' in two class java calculator

    - by tokee
    i have hit a brick wall whilst attempting to create a two class java calculator but have been unsuccessful so far in getting it working. i have the code for an interface which works and displays ok but creating a seperate class 'CalcEngine' to do the actual calculations has proven to be beyond me. I'd appreciate it if someone could kick start things for me and create a class calcEngine which works with the interface class and allows input when from single button i.e. if one is pressed on the calc then 1 displays onscreen. please note i'm not asking someone to do the whole thing for me as i want to learn and i'm confident i can do the rest including addition subtraction etc. once i get over the obstacle of getting the two classes to communicate. any and all assistance would be very much appreciated. Please see the calcInterface class code below - import java.awt.*; import javax.swing.*; import javax.swing.border.*; import java.awt.event.*; /** *A Class that operates as the framework for a calculator. *No calculations are performed in this section */ public class CalcFrame implements ActionListener { private CalcEngine calc; private JFrame frame; private JTextField display; private JLabel status; /** * Constructor for objects of class GridLayoutExample */ public CalcFrame() { makeFrame(); //calc = engine; } /** * This allows you to quit the calculator. */ // Alows the class to quit. private void quit() { System.exit(0); } // Calls the dialog frame with the information about the project. private void showAbout() { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(frame, "Group Project", "About Calculator Group Project", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE); } private void makeFrame() { frame = new JFrame("Group Project Calculator"); makeMenuBar(frame); JPanel contentPane = (JPanel)frame.getContentPane(); contentPane.setLayout(new BorderLayout(8, 8)); contentPane.setBorder(new EmptyBorder( 10, 10, 10, 10)); /** * Insert a text field */ display = new JTextField(); contentPane.add(display, BorderLayout.NORTH); //Container contentPane = frame.getContentPane(); contentPane.setLayout(new GridLayout(4, 4)); JPanel buttonPanel = new JPanel(new GridLayout(4, 4)); contentPane.add(new JButton("1")); contentPane.add(new JButton("2")); contentPane.add(new JButton("3")); contentPane.add(new JButton("4")); contentPane.add(new JButton("5")); contentPane.add(new JButton("6")); contentPane.add(new JButton("7")); contentPane.add(new JButton("8")); contentPane.add(new JButton("9")); contentPane.add(new JButton("0")); contentPane.add(new JButton("+")); contentPane.add(new JButton("-")); contentPane.add(new JButton("/")); contentPane.add(new JButton("*")); contentPane.add(new JButton("=")); contentPane.add(new JButton("C")); contentPane.add(buttonPanel, BorderLayout.CENTER); //status = new JLabel(calc.getAuthor()); //contentPane.add(status, BorderLayout.SOUTH); frame.pack(); frame.setVisible(true); } /** * Create the main frame's menu bar. * The frame that the menu bar should be added to. */ private void makeMenuBar(JFrame frame) { final int SHORTCUT_MASK = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getMenuShortcutKeyMask(); JMenuBar menubar = new JMenuBar(); frame.setJMenuBar(menubar); JMenu menu; JMenuItem item; // create the File menu menu = new JMenu("File"); menubar.add(menu); // create the Quit menu with a shortcut "Q" key. item = new JMenuItem("Quit"); item.setAccelerator(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_Q, SHORTCUT_MASK)); item.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { quit(); } }); menu.add(item); // Adds an about menu. menu = new JMenu("About"); menubar.add(menu); // Displays item = new JMenuItem("Calculator Project"); item.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { showAbout(); } }); menu.add(item); } /** * An interface action has been performed. * Find out what it was and handle it. * @param event The event that has occured. */ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent event) { String command = event.getActionCommand(); if(command.equals("0") || command.equals("1") || command.equals("2") || command.equals("3") || command.equals("4") || command.equals("5") || command.equals("6") || command.equals("7") || command.equals("8") || command.equals("9")) { int number = Integer.parseInt(command); calc.numberPressed(number); } else if(command.equals("+")) { calc.plus(); } else if(command.equals("-")) { calc.minus(); } else if(command.equals("=")) { calc.equals(); } else if(command.equals("C")) { calc.clear(); } else if(command.equals("?")) { } // else unknown command. redisplay(); } /** * Update the interface display to show the current value of the * calculator. */ private void redisplay() { display.setText("" + calc.getDisplayValue()); } /** * Toggle the info display in the calculator's status area between the * author and version information. */ }

  • MediaElement seems to disable lock screen when playing a video

    - by CrossProduct
I am working on an application that plays a video using the MediaElement component. Now, I would like that if the user is idle, the lock screen appears, as configured by the user in the Settings of the device. If I don't play a video, the lock screen indeed appears. But, when a video is playing no lock screen appears. I cannot find any information on this. Currently I set the idle detection modes like this: PhoneApplicationService.Current.ApplicationIdleDetectionMode = IdleDetectionMode.Enabled; PhoneApplicationService.Current.UserIdleDetectionMode = IdleDetectionMode.Enabled; I am a bit lost now. The only solution I can think of is running a timer myself and stop the video playback after a certain time. (but there seems to be no API calls to receive the configured lock timeout.) Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.

  • Where to handle fatal exceptions

    - by Stephen Swensen
I am considering a design where all fatal exceptions will be handled using a custom UncaughtExceptionHandler in a Swing application. This will include unanticipated RuntimeExceptions but also custom exceptions which are thrown when critical resources are unavailable or otherwise fail (e.g. a settings file not found, or a server communication error). The UncaughtExceptionHandler will do different things depending on the specific custom exception (and one thing for all the unanticipated), but in all cases the application will show the user an error message and exit. The alternative would be to keep the UncaughtExceptionHandler for all unanticipated exceptions, but handle all other fatal scenarios close to their origin. Is the design I'm considering sound, or should I use the alternative?

  • Help with calling a secure (SSL) webservice in Android.

    - by mmattax
I'm new to Android and am struggling to make a call to an SSL web service for an Android Application. My code is as follows: Log.v("fs", "Making HTTP call..."); HttpClient http = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpGet request = new HttpGet("https://example.com/api"); try { String response = http.execute(request, new BasicResponseHandler()); Log.v("fs", response); } catch (Exception e) { Log.v("fs", e.toString()); } The Output is: Making HTTP call... javax.net.SSLPeerUnverifiedException: No peer certificate Any suggestions to make this work would be great. EDIT I should note that this is a valid cert. It is not self-signed.

  • Auto enter pass phrase in case of Python ssl Client/Server

    - by rauch
I need to create Client/Server application to send files from clients to Server. I use simple ssl sockets for that and authenticate with certificates. ms = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM) ssl_sock = ssl.wrap_socket(ms, keyfile=".../newCA/my_client.key", certfile=".../newCA/my_client.crt", server_side=0, cert_reqs=ssl.CERT_REQUIRED, ca_certs=".../newCA/CA/my-ca.crt" ) ssl_sock.connect((HOST, MPORT)) And Server side: msock = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM) self.ssl_sock = ssl.wrap_socket(msock, keyfile=".../newCA/my_server.key", certfile=".../newCA/my_server.crt", server_side=1, cert_reqs=ssl.CERT_REQUIRED, ca_certs=".../newCA/CA/my-ca.crt" ) self.ssl_sock.bind(('', self.PORT)) self.ssl_sock.listen(self.QUEUE_MAX) The problem is the following: when client tries to connect to Server, it requires Enter the pass phrase for private key for Both: for Server-side and Client-side. In Java we need to set System Property: javax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword="" and it has to be used automatically, But how is it been used in Python? I can't enter pass phrase all time the client connects.

  • How do I measure the time elapsed when calling a WCF Webservice?

    - by Manuel R.
We want to track the time taken by a web service call between a client and the server. This time should not include the time taken by the server to process the request. The idea is that we want to see how much time of a web service call is lost due to the actual transfer trough the network. Does WCF already offer something in this direction? Of course I could just add a timer on the client and subtract the server processing time but that wouldn't be very elegant.

  • Porting WebSphere code to get remote credentials to Tomcat

    - by Glenn Lawrence
I have been asked to look into porting some code from a web app under IBM WAS 7 so that it will run under Tomcat 7. This is part of a larger SPNEGO/Kerberos SSO system but for purposes of discussion I have distilled the code down to the following that shows the dependencies on the two WebSphere classes AccessController and WSSubject: GSSCredential clientCreds = (GSSCredential) com.ibm.ws.security.util.AccessController.doPrivileged(new java.security.PrivilegedAction() { public Object run() { javax.security.auth.Subject subject = com.ibm.websphere.security.auth.WSSubject.getCallerSubject(); GSSCredential clientCreds = (GSSCredential) subject.getPrivateCredentials(GSSCredential.class).iterator().next(); return clientCreds; } }); I'd like to be able to do this in Tomcat.

  • WYSIWYG text editor in Java

    - by Aaron Digulla
I'd like to collect all WYSIWYG text editors for Java here. Some rules for entries: There must be a link to the project/product You must state whether it's open source or commercial Is it possible to extend the editor (add new features like a "violet centered sudoku")? Is that simple or complex? Does it come with lots of features (fancy character and paragraph styles with online spell checking for several languages in the same document) or just the basics (bold, italics, no underline)? List important dependencies (does it run on bare Java with Swing? SWT? MacOS?) Your personal opinion This list should help developers determine which editor to choose. I'm not looking for "the best" but more "what's there".

  • JSF tags not being rendered as HTML

    - by Toto
    I'm following the Java EE firstcup tutorial using Netbeans and Glassfish. When I execute the JSF web tier I've been instructed to code, the browser gets the same JSF markup coded in the .xhtml file, and the tags are not rendered as HTML tags. I know this by using the view source code in my browser. For example, for this code: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"> <h:head> <title>Page title here</title> </h:head> <h:body> <h2> <h:outputText value="#{bundle.WelcomeMessage}" /> </h2> </h:body> </html> The browser should get something like: <html ...> <head> <title>Page title here</title> </head> <body> <h2> the welcome message goes here </h2> </body> </html> Right? Well, my browser is getting jsf code (the first piece of code above) and not the html code (the second piece of code above). It seems to be a configuration problem in netbeans or glassfish but don't know what. Any ideas? This is my web.xml file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <web-app version="3.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_3_0.xsd"> <context-param> <param-name>javax.faces.PROJECT_STAGE</param-name> <param-value>Development</param-value> </context-param> <servlet> <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name> <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class> <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/firstcup/*</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> <session-config> <session-timeout> 30 </session-timeout> </session-config> <welcome-file-list> <welcome-file>greetings.xhtml</welcome-file> </welcome-file-list> </web-app> This is my faces-config.xml file: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <!-- =========== FULL CONFIGURATION FILE ================================== --> <faces-config version="2.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-facesconfig_2_0.xsd"> <application> <resource-bundle> <base-name>firstcup.web.WebMessages</base-name> <var>bundle</var> </resource-bundle> <locale-config> <default-locale>en</default-locale> <supported-locale>es</supported-locale> </locale-config> </application> <navigation-rule> <from-view-id>/greetings.xhtml</from-view-id> <navigation-case> <from-outcome>success</from-outcome> <to-view-id>/response.xhtml</to-view-id> </navigation-case> </navigation-rule> </faces-config> Moreover: The url I'm entering in the browser is http://localhost:8081/firstcup/ but I've also tried: http://localhost:8081/firstcup/greetings.xhtml I've checked Glassfish logs and there's no information about not being able to load FacesServlet

  • @Local annotation in EJB 3.

    - by stratwine
Hi, I have a stateless session bean and a standalone-java-program acting as a client. The bean method executes just fine when the interface is marked @Remote. However, when I mark that interface with @Local instead of @Remote, I get the following Exception. [java] javax.naming.NamingException: Could not dereference object [Root exception is java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not find InvokerLocator URL at JNDIaddress "chapter1/HelloUserBean/local"; looking up local Proxy from Remote JVM?] But I expected even the latter to work, since it is the same computer that the code executes in. Seeing this behavior, I am assuming that, the Application-Server and the Standalone-Java-Program use different JVM instances and not a single JVM instance and so this client can access only through a remote interface. Is that assumption correct ? Thanks !

  • How can I request local pages in the background of an ASP.NET MVC app?

    - by flipdoubt
My ASP.NET MVC app needs to run a set of tasks at startup and in the background at a regular interval. I have implemented each task as a controller action and listed the app-relative path to the action in the database. I implemented a TaskRunner process that gets the urls from the database and requests each one at a regular interval using WebRequest.Create, but this throws a UriFormatException. I cannot use this answer or any code that plucks values from HttpContext.Current.Request without getting an HttpException with the message "Request is not available in this context". The Request object is not available because my code uses System.Threading.Timer to do background processing, as recommended here. Here are my questions: Is there really no way to make local web requests within an ASP.NET web app? Is there really no way to dynamically ascertain the root path to the web app even using static dependencies in ASP.NET? I was trying to avoid storing the app's root path in the database (as FogBugz does with its "Maintenance Path"), but is this best option?

  • dynamically updating a datagrid from a XML file c# 3.5

    - by Farstucker
I have a datagrid that is populated via XML file when the form loads. Everything is working great but I would like the datagrid to update dynamically when a new order is received (Separate class receives a data stream and updates the file). Im looking for suggestions on how this should be done. (ie using a timer update every second, or monitor the file using FileSystemWatcher.. etc) Since where here, I might as well mention that in order to update the datagrid Im clearing the whole data set and Re-reading the file using: DataSet.Clear(); DataSet.ReadXml("file.xml"); dataGridView1.DataSource = DataSet; if this is not the proper approach, please offer any alternate suggestions.

  • ProGuard breaks Java application - no text, no images

    - by jocull
I'm trying to use ProGuard to obfuscate a Java application. I'm experiencing a problem where all of my text and images disappear from the GUI (Swing) forms. I've tried disabling optimizations and including more libraries, but nothing seems to be working. I've inspected the output generated by the obfuscator with a decompiler, and my resource paths seem to still be correct. Do I need to be including more core Java libraries outside of jre/lib/rt.jar? Are there more settings I should disable? ...other suggestions? Thanks.
