  • How to create custom get and set methods for Linq2SQL object

    I have some objects which have been created automatically by linq2SQL. I would like to write some code which should be run whenever the properties on these objects are read or changed. Can I use typical get { //code } and set {//code } in my partial class file to add this functionality? Currently I get an error about this member already being defined. This all makes sense. Is it correct that I will have to create a method to function as the entry point for this functionality, as I cannot redefine the get and set methods for this property. I was hoping to just update the get and set, as this would mean I wouldn't have to change all the reference points in my app. But I think I may just have to update it everywhere.

  • Partitioning mySQL tables that has foreign keys?

    Hi! What would be an appropriate way to do this, since mySQL obviously doesnt enjoy this. To leave either partitioning or the foreign keys out from the database design would not seem like a good idea to me. I'll guess that there is a workaround for this?   • How do I save an object that contains and EntitySet?

    Say I have an User (mapped to a User table) and the Edit view (in MVC) displays a multiselectlist of Modules (mapped to a Modules table) that user can access, with the Modules pre-selected based on the User's EntitySet of Modules. I have tried saving the User then deleting all User_Modules manually and adding them back based on what's selected on submit, but the User has a null EntitySet for User.User_Modules. I cannot find the correct way to handle this scenario anywhere online. Can anyone help?

  • DataContext Refresh and PropertyChanging & PropertyChanged Events

    I'm in a situation where I am being informed from an outside source that a particular entity has been altered outside my current datacontext. I'm able to find the entity and call refresh like so MyDataContext.Refresh(RefreshMode.OverwriteCurrentValues, myEntity); and the properties which have been altered on the entity are updated correctly. However neither of the INotifyPropertyChanging INotifyPropertyChanged appear to be raised when the refresh occurs and this leaves my UI displaying incorrect information. I'm aware that Refresh() fails to use the correct property getters and setters on the entity to raise the change notification events, but perhaps there is another way to accomplish the same thing? Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better method than Refresh? If Refresh is the only option, does anyone have a work around?

    I have 3 tables: subcontracts, companies and contacts. Each table has a active_status flags which shows that the item is still active (hasn't been deleted). Each contact has a company_id field which stores the id of the contact's company. Each subcontract has a company_id field which stores the subcontract's company. Each company has a company_id field which holds its guid and a primary_company field, b/c the company could be a subsidiary. If it's a subsidiary, the primary_company field holds the id of the primary company. I have a subcontract form. On the form, I have a drop-down of contacts which are stored in a contact table. Currently the drop-down lists all contacts. I would like to have the drop-down only list contacts which belong to the subcontract's company or any of that company's subsidiaries. I have the following query which I use elsewhere in the program to pass a company_id and get its subsidiaries. public IQueryable<company> GetSubsidiaryCompanies(Guid id) { return from c in db.companies where c.primary_company == id && c.active_status == true select c; } This is my current contact selection public IQueryable<contact> GetContacts() { return from c in db.contacts where c.active_status == true orderby c.contact_name select c; } What I need to do is pass it the subcontract.company_id and then only return the contacts where contact.company_id == subcontract.company_id or contact.company_id == one of the subsidiary ids.

Right now I have a batch script that runs, but I have to manually add a database each and every time, and I'm sick of maintaining it.     In a Django project, some cronjob programs are mainly used for administrative or analysis purposes, e.g. generating site usage stats, rotating user activities log, etc. We probably do not hope MySQL to cache queries in those programs to save memory usage and improve query cache efficiency. Is it possible to turn off MySQL query cache explicitly in those programs while keep it enabled for other parts including all views.py?

    Hi-- I've found a few answers for this using mySQL alone, but I was hoping someone could show me a way to get the ID of the last inserted or updated row of a mysql DB when using PHP to handle the inserts/updates. Currently I have something like this, where column3 is a unique key, and there's also an id column that's an autoincremented primary key: $query ="INSERT INTO TABLE (column1, column2, column3) VALUES (value1, value2, value3) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE SET column1=value1, column2=value2, column3=value3"; mysql_query($query); $my_id = mysql_insert_id(); $my_id is correct on INSERT, but incorrect when it's updating a row (ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE). I have seen several posts with people advising that you use something like INSERT INTO table (a) VALUES (0) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE id=LAST_INSERT_ID(id) to get a valid ID value when the ON DUPLICATE KEY is invoked-- but will this return that valid ID to the PHP "mysql_insert_id()" function? Thanks for any advice.

    Hi, since in mysql datetime field is represented as string (i'm not sure how it works internally), wouldn't be from performance point of view faster to store date as unix timestamp? I don't need to use any mysql native date functions, i'm going for performance of sorting and selecting data. if there was an index for that column, would be difference between int and datetime?     Hello All, I have an IEnumerable<someClass>. I need to transform it into XML. There is a property called 'ZoneId'. I need to write some XML based on this property, then I need some decendent elements that provide data relevant to the ZoneId. I know I need some type of grouping. Here's what I have attempted thus far without much success. **inventory is an IEnumerable<someClass>. So I query inventory for unique zones. This works ok. var zones = inventory.Select(c => new { ZoneID = c.ZoneId , ZoneName = c.ZoneName , Direction = c.Direction }).Distinct(); No I want to create xml based on zones and place. ***place is a property of 'someClass'. var xml = new XElement("MSG_StationInventoryList" , new XElement("StationInventory" , zones.Select(station => new XElement("station-id", station.ZoneID) , new XElement("station-name", station.ZoneName)))); This does not compile as "station" is out of scope when I try to add the "station-name" element. However is I remove the paren after 'ZoneId', station is in scope and I retreive the station-name. Only problem is the element is then a decendant of 'station-id'. This is not the desired output. They should be siblings. What am I doing wrong? Lastly after the "station-name" element, I will need another complex type which is a collection. Call it "places'. It will have child elements called "place". its data will come from the IEnumerable and I will only want "places" that have the "ZoneId" for the current zone. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is it a mistake select distinct zones from the original IEnumerable? This object has all the data I need within it. I just need to make it heirarchical. I'd like to traverse the list and pad the list by adding missing months (with quantity 0) so that all consecutive months are represented in the list. What would be the best way to accomplish this?
