  • spin_lock_irqsave vs spin_lock_irq

    - by cojocar
On a SMP machine we must use spin_lock_irqsave and not spin_lock_irq from interrupt context. Why would we want to save the flags (which contains the IF)? Is there another interrupt routine that could interrupt us? The flags are per CPU?

  • Optimal setup for Doxygen in a large multi-application COM project

    - by John
A system has up to 100 VC++ projects, each spitting out a DLL or EXE. In addition there are many COM components with IDL and generated .h/.c files. What's 'the right way' or at least a good way to organise this with Doxygen? One overall doxy project or one per project/solution? And what's the right way to handle COM, which has generated code and a lot of 'fluff' that will bloat generated HTML files.

  • Is there a preferred method of including the source code(s) of other software you've used in your ap

    - by Adam S
I've used a few F/OSS libraries in my commercial application. As per their licenses, I am obligated to include their source codes along with my VS2008 application. This is my first time making a "real" commercial application, and I would appreciate some advice on how best to go about including their source codes. I don't want to package them as zip files alongside my installed. I still want my installer to be a single file.

  • Recommendations on apache tuning for chat application

    - by sofia
Hi, I have a chat application (xmpp / muc) that is going to be served by apache (we might change to nginx later but right now it's not easily done). If a user is in 2 rooms, he'll have between 2 and 4 active connections to the server (long-polling connections), so if we have 200 users per room and we have 5 rooms, what should the ServerLimit, MaxClients be set to? For example, these are the default values: ServerLimit 256 MaxClients 256 MaxRequestsPerChild 4000 Thanks,

  • Any benefits of using Windows Communication Foundation/ Web Services vs. a simple .aspx page for s

    - by Clay Nichols
I'm working on a VB6 app that will do some very simple communication with a web server (passing value and getting back an anwer. Low bandwith and infrequent use). Someone suggested using WCF or Web Services. I'm wondering what the advantages are vs. just posting to an ASPX page like: Myserver.com/Functions.ASP?FunctionName=GetValue?UserName=BubbGump and returning some simple, easy to parse text, like one value per line.

  • How should a Gnome applet store its configuration data?

    - by George Edison
I have a Gnome applet written in Python. In order to save configuration data/settings, it creates a file ~/.appname. However, this prevents multiple instances of the applet from being added to the panel because each cannot have its own settings. How can I store the settings in a way that allows each instance to have its own unique settings? Update: I specifically want to know how to store settings per instance.

  • Calculate rolling / moving average in c or c++

    - by Biohazard
I know this is achievable with boost as per: Using boost::accumulators, how can I reset a rolling window size, does it keep extra history? But I really would like to avoid using boost. I have googled and not found any suitable or readable examples. Basically I want to track the moving average of an ongoing stream of a stream of floating point numbers using the most recent 1000 numbers as a data sample. What is the easiest way to achieve this?

  • Is there a template engine for Node.js?

    - by Seb
I'm kind of falling in love with Node.js not because you write app code in javascript but because of its performance. I really don't care a lot about how beautiful a server side language might be but how much requests per second it can handle. So anyway I'm looking forward to experiment building an entire webapp using Node.js (and going back to the actual question) is there a template engine similar to let's say the django template engine or something similar (that at least allows you to extend base templates) available for Node.js?

  • Cost of sending XMPP messages via Google App engine

    - by Alfred
Hopefully this question is allowed over here. It does not really have to do with programming per se but with the costs associated with it. My question is: "How much does sending/receiving XMPP messages cost". I can find all the information about email etc. But I could not find information about costs sending/receiving XMPP messages.

  • Delphi component you can't live without?

    - by Warren P
Most delphi developers have a list of delphi components they wouldn't live without. Not including anything that ships with Delphi (standard VCL or included third-party software like Rave or Indy), what are the components you can't live without, be they commercial or open-source? I will refrain from adding my own answers unless this becomes a community wiki. One component name, or product name, per answer please. Please vote up on components and do not post duplicates.

  • How can I tell SVN that a file was renamed by another tool?

    - by detly
I am using Subversion with some files that are managed by another application. I would like to rename the files, but the rename must be done from within the application so that it correctly updates its own metadata. This means that I cannot simply use SVN's rename command — the application's metadata will become inconsistent. So how can I can I tell SVN that the files in the working copy have been renamed by this application, so that it preserves history in the same way as per the rename command?

  • Rails HTML editor to create forms

    - by Ignace
Hey all, I'm looking for a HTML editor which can be (easiliy) integrated in a RoR app that has the possibility to create forms. Not forms per se, but I need the possibility to add radiobuttons, input fields, checkboxes and so on. I loved the smoothness of TinyMCE, but apparently this doesn't take me far enough. Does there exists such a gem/plugin? Thanks!

  • C# modify a config file for a windows service

    - by Jim Beam
I have a windows service that reads from a config file. I need to modify this config file prior to the application starting. How can I create a GUI that would handle the changes to the config file. I know that a service does not have a GUI per se, but I really just need something to modify some strings in the config file and then start the service.
