• Can't recognize local webserver

  My Internet Cable provider has set up a web server which hosts different entertainment material like movies, songs, tv shows and games etc. While using windows the pc recognises it as a local web server and downloads files with full LAN speed of 10 mb per second. On the contrary when using Ubuntu I am only able to download the files on my Internet speed not more than 100 kb per second. What ever I try ubuntu does not recognizes the webserver as a local area network web server but as a normal internet website. How to make Ubuntu download files from this server with full LAN speed. Please help in this regard. The url is http://dmasti.pk and yes it is a web server browsable by a web browser like firefox or ie.

• Using the AccountsService API with Python

  I'm a java web developer for nearly 3 years. Always trying to learn more and be better but still I feel that the amount of knowledge is not that good as I want. The knowledge in some places still seems to be non-systematic and don't provide a very strong base to solve the problems as good as I want to do it. The example I have is my senior developer, whose solutions are always more efficient and beautiful. So, the question is rather simple and hard the same time. What is the right way to get my knowlege be more systematic and therefore improve it's quality. I understand that there is no practically good answer for the all java programming, so let's focus on the modern java web or nearly web technologies: JSF 2.0 JPA2 and Hibernate as persistence provider Web services and Java SE as a core. • Google adwords API - credit card safety question

  Hi, Google is asking me to fax credit card xerox in order to activate adwords API in MCC. This really sucks imo... they could have had prepaid option. In any case, my questions: 1) Are there alternatives to this - is there a 3rd party provider who will give me this service without me sending them the credit card info? 2) How secure is it to send my credit card fax via some online fax service? 3) Do you think they will reject the application if I hide my CVV number in the fax? Any other thoughts appreciated :) thanks

  Twitter the micro blogging site crossed the ten billions milestone on 4th of this month as per the report by GigaTweet (Site which tracks the number of tweets posted on twitter) The person who sent the 10 billionth tweet is still unknown as his profile is protected. But the 9,999,999,999th tweet was sent by one Rafaela Marques from Brazil. AS you can see GigaTweet expects just another 196 days to reach the 20 billionth marks if tweet continues with the current pace. Some of the interesting statics about rate in which people tweeted every year 2007 – 5000 tweets per day 2008 – 300,000 tweets per day 2009 – 2.5 million per day It reached an average of 35 million tweets per day by end  2009. • Is gstreamer the best encoder for vorbis or is there a better encoding engine I should use?

  I have sound juicer installed and I want to rip to vorbis.ogg. Is gstreamer the best encoder for vorbis or is there a better encoding engine I should use. The default gstreamer profile is audio/x-raw-float,rate=44100,channels=2 ! vorbisenc name=enc quality=0.5 ! oggmux I am going to raise the quality to 0.7 but thats all nothing if gstreamer isn't the best encoder. Any suggestions for high quality ripping? Edit: a good answer to this will also be the top search result in google for "best vorbis encoding engine". Double Edit: It appears oggenc itself is the best encoder which rules out using sound juicer to rip cd's as it uses gstreamer. I have installed oggenc and am testing the command ripper abcde. Found a good configuration for it here oggenc config for abcde

  In ASP.NET you can tackle the internationalization requirement by taking advantage of native support to local and global resources used with the ResourceExpressionBuilder. But with this approach you cannot access public resources defined in external assemblies referenced by your Web application. However, since you can extend the .NET resource provider mechanism and create new expression builders you can workaround this limitation and use external resources in your ASPX pages much like you use local or global resources. Finally, if you are thinking, okay this is all very nice but where’s the code I can use?   I'm a newbie to j2ee security, and i'm not j2ee expert either, though i'm really willing to put some effort and learn I've an application that i'm about to develop on Google App Engine (GAE) --with no time constraints. As you know GAE handles a lot of web container security issues for you, also I will be using openID for authentication exclusively (sessions will be handled by provider). GAE supports SSL which will help with confidentiality and integrity maybe. Authorization can be done through filters. I know reinventing the wheel is a mess, but I was looking forward to learn something about security and implement that in my new app. so what the pros and cons of using a framework like shiro, spring security, jguard etc or filling the rest of gaps on my own ?

• Adding IP address to OpenVZ VPS (OpenVZ Web Panel)

  I apologise if I sound at all dumb. This is my first dedicated server having used a VPS for over a year and I'm trying to setup a VPS on this new server. I purchased a subnet from my hosting provider that I believe allows me 6 usable IP addresses: 177.xx.xxx.201 - 177.xx.xxx.206 The subnet address looks like this: 177.xx.xxx.200/29. I've gone on my server and added them like it said on a wiki like so: ip addr add 177.**.***.201/29 dev eth0 I done that for all six and now when I go to them in the browser they point to my server. The problem is, I'm using OpenVZ web panel to create VMs (http://code.google.com/p/ovz-web-panel/) so I created a VM and assigned one of those IPs to it. However when SSHing to that IP it SSH's to the dedicated server and not the VM. Am I missing something?

• Bug in firefox address bar autocomplete running on KDE

  Has anyone experienced this graphical glitch when typing in Firefox address bar? The drop-down list is not drawn correctly, with some "blocks" missing. After typing more letters or hovering the mouse cursor, the list redraws itself and becomes complete. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, Firefox 13.0.1 and this only happens in KDE (tested with 4.8.2, 4.8.3 and 4.8.4). It does not happen in Unity or Xfce with the same user profile. If I go to the KDE control panel and disable the Fade effect, the bug starts to happen to almost every menu in the system, including, the taskbar window previews. Enabling the “Fade” effect corrects the bug everywhere except in Firefox. I have an Nvidia card and I am using the proprietary driver (current, not current-updates -- not sure about the difference), but the linked question on an Arch Linux forum says this happen with the open source driver and with other cards too. Does anyone have an idea for a solution?

• Firefox messages in /var/log/messages

  I happened to be browsing through /var/log/messages for another reason, and I stumbled across some messages apparently related to Firefox like this: Apr 5 15:36:59 myserver kernel: [18091.188462] type=1503 audit(1333658219.144:19): operation="open" pid=6396 parent=1 profile="/usr/lib/firefox-11.0/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}" requested_mask="::r" denied_mask="::r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0 name="/shr/RiverTrip.gpx" which are really puzzling me because I really don't see why Firefox would know about these files let alone output messages about them. The /shr directory is an NTFS partition I set up on my laptop so I can access it with either Ubuntu or Windows XP. The messages are consistently showing up for a few of the files in that directory, but not all. I haven't even looked at those files or done anything else with them in a long time! I have no idea what's special with those files; they appear to be picked at random as far as I can tell. I am using Ubuntu Release 10.04 (lucid), Kernel Linux 2.6.32-38, GNOME 2.30.2, Firefox 11.0 . I hope someone can explain these spooky messages!

BENEFITS Salary dependant on skills Contributary Pension with 4% contribution from employer (after 1 year of service) Private Healthcase (after 1 year of service) 20 days holiday + 3-4 days holiday between Christmas and New year - 1 day extra holiday available each quarter you don't have a day off sick (and an additional day if you are not off sick for the whole year ).   Scott mentioned on twitter a great post on using VS2010 code coverage with ASP.NET unit tests with the following comment. So I figured I would work up a quick post on using Gallio with the code coverage features (and thus MbUnit, NUnit etc).  Using Gallio with the VS2010 code coverage features is exactly the same as you would use MSTest. Just enable the code coverage collector.   Select the assembly you want to profile (double click the collector to do this) Run your test   Right Click and select code coverage.

• Best practices for logging user actions in production

  I was planning on logging a lot of different stuff in my production environment, things like when a user: Logs In, Logs Off Change Profile Edit Account settings Change password ... etc Is this a good practice to do on a production enviornment? Also what is a good way to log all this. I want some hints to make a Onda GSM usbkey 19d2:1015 work? route show me Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface default * 0.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 usb0 link-local * 255.255.0.0 U 1000 0 0 usb0 It connects and the usb0 device get ip-address from the provider but I cannot get webpages (also typing a known ip in firefox) It seem to be something about routing default gw, there is no active firewall on this pc btw, all works using sakis3g or wvdial or gnome-ppp
