  • How do I import Amazon MP3s with Banshee and the new Amazon Cloud Player?

    Banshee's Amazon MP3 Import extension until recently allowed seamless importing of songs purchased from Amazon MP3. It did this by a)opening .amz files and using them to connect to and download the purchased files from Amazon's servers, and b) using hooks in Banshee's built-in browser to automatically recognize and open the .amz files when clicked on in the browser. However, recently this functionality stopped working. Banshee will display Contacting Server in the lower left hand corner for a little while and then stop. Furthermore opening the Amazon Cloud Player in the Banshee browser or any other browser on a Linux system to manually download the .amz file now results in the message: On Linux systems, Cloud Player only supports downloading songs one at a time. To download your music, deselect all checkboxes, select the checkbox for the song you want to download, then click the "Download" button. How can I get around this and import my purchased music into Banshee as I used to?

  • Is there a media player that works on HTTPS sites?

    I'm currently using Yahoo! Media Player for a site that needs to play MP3 files that are stored on our server. In total, there's quite a bit more than the free limits at Soundcloud, but each file is only a few minutes long. YMP is pretty good, but causes security warnings on HTTPS pages, because it can only be served via HTTP. Is there an equivalent free player I can embed for the HTTPS pages? EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm initially looking for something that will scan the page and turn media links playable.

  • Music player freezes when I switch to one of the terminal window until I login to that terminal

    Whenever I switch to a terminal window from my X window, (by pressing Ctrl+Alt+1) my music player (banshee) running in X freezes until I login to the terminal window. Once I login into it (or either switch back to my X with or without logging into it) the music player resumes from the point it freezed. However, I observed that when am transferring files from my laptop to another computer over ssh and if I switch to one of the terminal windows, the transfer does not pause even if I don`t login to the termianl window. I just wanted to know what could possibly be the reason for such a discrimination.

    I need to install Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player to check an URL for testing purpose. Could someone post me the exact steps to acheive this task? Note: I have already tried installing IE in Ubuntu 10.10 and later versions (12.04) with Wine. It works fine. But I don't get success installing Windows Media Player. Hope someone will solve my problem. It will be great if someone gives me a neat solution for installing IE and WMP in Ubuntu (10.10 or later).

  • Ubuntu: Failure to login with multiple video adapters

    Forgive my ignorance, for I am a complete linux noob. I have a computer with three video cards and six monitors. Works great on Windows. Trying to get it to run Ubuntu as well. It loads fine when I have it configured to run on one adapter; detects both screens, runs ok. But I want to turn the other 4 monitors on and run the whole thing as one extended desktop (one session, etc). So I downloaded and installed the newest ATI driver for Linux, which seems to work, kinda. I ran this to set up the screens: aticonfig --adapter=all --initial -f Now when I boot, Ubuntu seems to turn on all the screens (3 viewports, each with two cloned displays from what I can tell). When I enter my login info OR move the mouse off the main screen, the screens freeze and the kbd/ms become unresponsive. aticonfig generated xorg.conf included below. Have tried the following: aticonfig -initial -f - works, but only detects the primary adapter and 2 screens aticccle - Tells me I have to reboot after enabling the other cards. Then goes into above described freezing state. aticonfig --adapter=all --initial -f - see above Manually editing xorg.conf file with my limited knowledge - Was able to get two adapters running, but only the second adapter initialized while the primary stopped at the Ubuntu boot screen. Was unable to see the login prompt. Froze after I logged in blindly (was able to hear the login sound). Using generic "radeon" driver instead of ATI Proprietary driver with the above init attempts Toggling xinerama Various combinations of the above Hardware: Intel Core 2 Quad q6600 8GB DDR2 (3x) ATI Radeon HD 4680 5 monitors (21W, 21W, 22W Portrait, 22W Portrait, 19")and an HDTV (26"W, HDMI) in a horizontal arrangement I know next to nothing about Linux/Ubuntu aside from basic filesystem navigation, editing text files, and accessing my local and networked Windows stores and shares. Basically this is the most advanced thing I've had to do. I installed today.     I'm planning on setting up a small media center to achieve the following: I have multiple users who want to watch satellite channels I want them to be able to change the channel remotely I'm going to buy an external DVB to capture the signal Use some software to stream the channel that is selected I want to have 2 different channels at the same time, I assume I will need two DVB cards Users use VLC or Windows Media Player or whatever to view the channels How can I achieve this? I heard MythTV can do it? I tried to do some research I couldn't find enough information. Note: There's no copyright issue here. I'm streaming Free-To-Air (FTA) channels.

    Hey! A friend of mine recorded a family event with his Canon pal DC95. This camera records to a mini cd. I saw the cd being played in the camera (which was hooked up to a tv) but when I place the cd's in my pcs cd player I see nothing. Like if the cd had nothing on it. I tried downloading the manual of the camera (maybe I have to do something to the cd) but I can't find it online. I really want to get the videos on the cd so I can pass them to some other friends. Anyone know how I can achieve this? Please help me out :) Thanks. PS: Just a reminder. I know that the cd's contain stuff, but when I place the cd in the drive I just see a blank cd.

  • Converting videos to AVI with AVIDemux for compatibility

    I am trying to convert a couple of short videos to AVI (XviD) using AVIDemux. I find that while the resulting videos play fine in VLC, they do not play in an XviD DVD player (nor presumably Xbox 360, PS3, etc.). In fact, they do not even show in Windows Explorer (that is, Explorer cannot read their metadata or display thumbnails). I tried using all three of the AVI Muxer Output Format options, but none worked. Does anyone know what settings to use to produce compatible AVIs with AVIDemux? (I found an old thread where someone complained about AVIs not working on Xbox, but that was a few years ago from an older version.)

    According to this comment it seems that VLC could boost the audio volume up to 800% in the past versions. Today I installed VLC multimedia player version 2.0.5 and it is capable only to boost up to 200%! This is not much, considering that some youtube videos are very quiet. This is what I need VLC for - to boost up volume for quiet youtube videos. So, where's the problem? Was it actually 800% in the past? Did VLC really limit this from former 800% to current 200%? Is it possible to somehow achieve more boost with VLC? Or with other software? I am using Windows 7.

I've tried making a new directory in /tmp and setting it's group permissions to rwx, and then trying to write a file in there, it doesn't work.     I tried using phonon to play the video but could not succeed. Off-late came to know through the Qt forums that even the latest version of Qt does not support phonon. Thats when i started using Gstreamer.Any suggestions as to how to connect the Gstreamer window with the Qt widget?My aim is to play a video using Gstreamer on the Qt widget.So how do i link the gstreamer window and the Qt widget? I am successful in getting the Id of the widget through winid().     In iPhone OS 3, Apple has introduced HTTP Live Streaming which should allow live streaming of video from the internet. I am currently operating a webcam, which feeds into my server, and is then converted into a flv stream by ffmpeg, and streamed back out using ffserver. Does anyone know how to setup a video stream the iPhone can use using ffmpeg and ffserver? I should be able to re-encode into just about any format on the fly.

What is the size of videos iTunes syncs with iPad? 1024x768? and what if the video has a dimension below 1024x768? Will it scale up? or will it keep the video at low res and scale when you play? The question is because I am using the MPMoviePlayerController and I need to know what resolutions to expect, so I can adjust the interface. thanks.

I've been told that Flash will quite happily handle such content however I have no experience with Flash nor do I have access to Adobe Creative Suite.
