• Incorrect gzipping of http requests, can't find who's doing it

  We're seeing some very strange mangling of HTTP responses, and we can't figure out what is doing it. We have an app server handling JSON requests. Occasionally, the response is returned gzipped, but with incorrect headers that prevent the browser from interpreting it correctly. The problem is intermittent, and changes behavior over time. Yesterday morning it seemed to fail 50% of the time, and in fact, seemed tied to one of our two load-balanced servers. Later in the afternoon, it was failing only 20 times out of 1000, and didn't correlate with an app server. The two app servers are running Apache 2.2 with mod_wsgi and a Django app stack. They have identical Apache configs and source trees, and even identical packages installed on Red Hat. There's a hardware load balancer in front, I don't know the make or model. Akamai is also part of the food chain, though we removed Akamai and still had the problem. So they see an identity encoding header, and gzipped content, so they can't interpret the response. The bad response has an extra "X-N: S" header. Perhaps if I could find out what intermediary adds "X-N: S" headers to responses, I could track down the culprit...

• jQuery: how can I clear content without getting the dreaded "stop running this script?" dialog?

  I have a div, that holds a div. like this: <div id='reportHolder' class='column'> <div id='report'> </div> </div> Within the inner div, I add a bunch (7-12) of pairs of a and div elements, like this: <h4><a>Heading1</a></h4> <div> ...content here....</div> The total size of the content, is maybe 200k. Each div just contains a fragment of HTML. After I add all the content, I then create an accordion. like this: $('#report').accordion({collapsible:true, active:false}); This all works fine. The problem is, when I try to clear or remove the report div, it takes a looooooong time, and I get 3 or 4 popups asking "Do you want to stop running this script?" I have tried several ways: option 1: $('#report').accordion('destroy'); $('#report').remove(); $("#reportHolder").html("<div id='report'> </div>"); option 2: $('#report').accordion('destroy'); $('#report').html(''); $("#reportHolder").html("<div id='report'> </div>"); option 3: $('#report').accordion('destroy'); $("#reportHolder").html("<div id='report'> </div>"); No matter what, it hangs for a long while. The call to accordion('destroy') seems to not be the source of the delay. It's the erasure of the html content within the report div. EDIT - fixed typo. ps: this happens on FF3.5 as well as IE8 . Questions: What is taking so long? How can I remove content more quickly?

Plus, i tried getting the updatepanel to work just so i could see if it does the update well but it turned out really bad. i added some linkbottons in the content template area and used them as the triggers for testing reasons. i tested and the changes took over the entire page in contrast to just appearing in the content area. I actually just wanted to load a form that is created in another asp. page into the main content area... I seriously need help with this... But when I did query on navicat, no results I got because there's spaces between A that is <div> and </div>.   I want to fadeOut the first div in a collection and then fadeIn the next div. The fade in out would trigger at a set time. The number of items in the collection is 1 to n. Here is an example of the html; <div class="contentPanel"> <div class="content"> <div style="border: solid 2px black; text-align: center"> This is first content </div> </div> <div class="content"> <div style="border: solid 2px black; text-align: center"> This is second content </div> </div> <div class="content"> <div style="border: solid 2px black; text-align: center"> This is third content </div> </div> </div> So on page load the first "content" class would be visible, after x amount of time, the current "content" would fadeout and the next "content" would fade in. When it got to the nth "content" it would start over, fadeout the nth "content" and fadein the first "content". This behavior would loop continuously.

• How do I use an SWT Control to render the content of an SWT/JFace table?

  I have a JFace TableViewer with an SWT Table, and I would like to custom render the content of some cells. I would like to use an SWT Control to render the cell content. I would prefer to have only one instance of the Control doing the rendering, but if I have to instantiate one for each row, that would be acceptable. Next, the solution MUST be compatible with the ContentProvider/LabelProvider approach (I am using EMF). This means that I cannot use the solution described in Sniplet 126 (http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/org.eclipse.swt.snippets). Next, I though about using custom drawing. But here the catch is, that I have to send individual drawing operations to the graphics context. I was trying to have the Control render the content for me by calling redraw() or print(GC) upon SWT.PaintItem, but that just lead to uncontrollable flickering. At this point, my best guess is to use SWT.PaintItem to do the drawing. This will result in duplicate code, as I already have a Control that can render the content the way I'd like it. I'd like to prevent this redundancy. Any help is appreciated!

• Permission settings for apache2 web content directories with several users?

  Hi there. I've got a Debian VPS set up with a LAMP-stack. My apache2 instance runs on the user account 'www-data'. In addition to the root account and the service accounts I have several user accounts belonging to friends, family and myself that includes FTP-access. This is to allow the users to drop files to the root of their domain which is located in their home folder. I am having issues with setting the correct permissions so that Apache is able to serve the content ("403 Forbidden"). I could just do a 'chmod -R 755 *' on the entire www-directory for each domain, but from what I gather that's not a good idea. Here's an example of the structure: apache2 is run by 'www-data' User 'john' has this home folder structure /home/john/domains/somedomain.com/www /home/john/domains/sub.somedomain.com/www How can I keep things safe while still allowing users to upload content via FTP, and allow for file-uploads in lets say Wordpress?

My goal is to reduce a number of revalidation requests to our the origin server. • How to return proper 404 for google while providing user friendly content to the user?

  I am bouncing between posting this here and on Superuser. Please excuse me if you feel this does not belong here. I am observing the behavior described here - Googlebot is requesting random urls on my site, like aecgeqfx.html or sutwjemebk.html. I am sure that I am not linking these urls from anywhere on my site. I suspect this may be google probing how we handle non existent content - to cite from an answer to the linked question: [google is requesting random urls to] see if your site correctly handles non-existent files (by returning a 404 response header) We have a custom page for nonexistent content - a styled page saying "Content not found, if you believe you got here by error, please contact us", with a few internal links, served (naturally) with a 200 OK. The URL is served directly (no redirection to a single url). I am afraid this may discriminate the site at google - they may not interpret the user friendly page as a 404 - not found and may think we are trying to fake something and provide duplicate content. How should I proceed to ensure that google will not think the site is bogus while providing user friendly message to users in case they click on dead links by accident?

• How do I properly display all content in a JTabbedPane?

  I am nesting a JPanel inside a JTabbedPane. I am having trouble displaying all the content inside of the JTabbedPane. The outside borders of the internal content get chopped off. I am currently not using a Layout Manager for my JTabbedPane or dummy Panel because it stretches my content automatically. How do I add a JPanel inside the JTabbedPane so that I can have an even border around all the content.My attempts to create a dummy panel and setting a border for the inner panel using BorderFactory haven't worked. Is there a convention that I need to know to do this correctly?   I'm setting up an nginx - apache reverse proxy where nginx handles the static files and apache the dynamic. I have a search engine and depending on search parameter I either directly forward the user to the page they are looking for or provide a set of search results. I cache these results in memcached as key:/search.cgi?q=foo value: LOCATION:http://www.example.com/foo.html and key:/search.cgi?q=bar value: CONTENT-TYPE: text/html <html> .... .... </html> I can pull the "Content-type...." values out of memcached using nginx and send them to the user, but I can't quite figure out how to handle a returned value like "Location..." Can I?

The problem I am facing is that for every link I have to repeat the same code again and again. So I tried to use a loop to simplify this but it doesn't work. When I click on one of the links all I get inside of the shadowbox is "undefined". As I am sure you can see in my code, I am still very new to this, so any help or pointers would be appreciated.   The way my application is structured, each component generates output as XML and returns an XmlWriter object. Before rendering the final output to the page, I combine all XML and perform an XSL transformation on that object. Below, is a simplified code sample of the application structure. Does it make sense to combine XmlWriter objects like this? Is there a better way to structure my application?   Well here's the problem: I have a PHP index page which uses show/hide layers javascript. I am using the on menu.click function to show and hide content relevant to each menu. On.click all divs are hidden except the content for that menu item , which fades in. The content relating to each menu item are displayed within separate DIVS. The property is applied to all the text within all the divs. See: http://jobe-group.com/jobeco/uk/2010live/dynamic/content/index.php# The trouble is that SIFR only appears to be applied to the displayed on.load when the page is first loaded. When this is hidden and the other s shown through the "show" function they load in classic CSS fonts without the SIFR applied. Is this unavoidable with the SIFR setup. Or am I not calling the divs properly. I have set the SIFR to apply to the selector and indeed it works fine on the for the displayed on load. It doesn't work for the within other . In theory I would think its possible to load the SIFR on all divs on page.load even if those divs are presently visibility:hidden. What's the verdict on this? Hope someone can help. Cheers, John

• How can I prevent the scaling of a UIWebview's content after reorientation?

  I'm building an iOS 5/6 app that has a UIWebView. It loads some HTML that I have embedded in my app. Now when I rotate my device, the WebView changes its size (as I want it to fill the entire width of the screen). And then it gets weird: some content gets scaled up and some content doesn't get scaled up. See this image with some example text in it: As you can see, the header (H6) stays the same, while the paragraph gets scaled up. Does anybody have an idea how to prevent this? I want the html to look the same in landscape as it does in portrait mode. I've tried setting the viewport scaling to 1: <meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=1.0,max-scale=1.0"> but that doesn't help. The body's font-size style is set to 14px, but changing that to 14pt or a percentage also made no difference. Setting the width of the body to 100% also didn't help. Strangely, removing the line break (<br/>) that's in the text fixes it but I need line breaks to be in there so that's no solution. The only thing that does work is reloading the UIWebView's content after an orientation change, but that doesn't prevent it from looking wrong during rotation, and it resets any scrolling that the user may have done. Any ideas?
