    I've got a .js file that has this function in it: function showDialog(divID) { var dialogDiv = $(divID); dialogDiv.dialog ( { bgiframe: true, modal: true, autoOpen: false, show: 'blind' } ) And in my page this: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("input.invokeDialog").click.showDialog("#testDialog"); }); </script> I'm trying to figure out why it doesn't recognize my showDialog function. Is it not possible to reference it with the dot as I am doing? Do I need a jQuery specific function or syntax for it to know that it's a jQuery function or is there no such thing?

  • Circular dock/menu in css or jquery

    Is it possible to have a circular menu or dock using css or jquery.? I have a set of images as the dock items that need to be displayed as a circular dock... however the number of items in the dock are not constant and may vary.... so i cannot tend to use constant values for positioning each item in a pre-defined manner. Ajax loads some images into this particular div and i need to use css or jquery to style this so that they get displayed as circular dock items. Any idea on how this can be implemented..? I would like a browser in-specific implementation, but i also welcome if some one has some solutions specific to few browsers... UPDATE I don't think i exactly want a pie menu... it easily gets messed up as the number of dock items increase. I am looking for a spiral dock. and by spiral i mean that the menu items must be in the following alignment..

  • jQuery - Ajax post result in html displaying in wrong position

    I have a site with user posted threads that get voted on (up or down), and a vote count is displayed next to each thread. The voting up and down process is being done through jQuery/Ajax, and using something like this: $.ajax({ url: 'vote.php', success: function(data) { $('.result').html(data); } }); the html of the vote count is being updated (.result being the class of the div that holds the vote count number) Also, the threads are being sorted first by vote count descending, and then alphabetically. I'm having a problem with the ajax updating the HTML vote count in real time, i have a hunch that the issue is due to the fact that the order of the threads are changing when the vote count is being updated, but I'm not certain. I know the database is being updated, and when I refresh the page, it's also being updated correctly, but I'm not seeing the real-time behavior that I expect from jQuery/Ajax. What might be the problem?

    I'm writing an extension for chrome as "Content script". My extension should change the background color of google home page (https://www.google.com) I wrote this code (including jquery): $(".gsib_a").style="background:#FF0000"; But not worked. I'm sure I added jQuery to content script, and the manifest.json file is set. I am sure because this code works: $(".gsib_a").hide(); And I am sure changing style of the element with class of gsib_a is exactly what I need and affects. Because I've tested it by Chrome Developer Tools. Okay, who knows the problem?

  • Cached Jquery selector behavior that I do not understand

    Given the following code why am I getting different values for a and b? I would have thought they would return the same thing: (function() { var a = $('#foo'); var Test = function(){ console.log(a); //outputs 'jQuery()' var b = $('#foo'); console.log(b); //outputs 'jQuery(select#foo)' which is what I want }; })(); This question stems from me trying to stick frequently used selectors into vars. Originally I was doing it in each method (like I did with var b in the above example) but then I found I needed to use the selectors in multiple methods so I moved the assignment out to be available (or so I thought) to all of the methods in that anonymous function. As you can see, it does not work. Why is this?

  • jQuery wait for ajax call to be over before continuing

    Hi all, I have a problem with a jQuery ajax call. I need to wait for the call to be finished in order to return a value. However, the script seems to jump ahead and not wait for the call to be over. my function then returns "undefined". I have tried to use the .ajax() method and set the value of async to false, but this would not work either. I could I get my function to return the value that I could through the ajax call?     Since I upgraded to jQuery 1.4.4 I've been getting several new warning messages when I run my unit tests in Firefox 3.6.13. Here's a typical one: Warning: Unexpected token in attribute selector: '!'. Source File: http://localhost/unitTests/devunitTests.html Line: 0 Or the even more useful: Warning: Selector expected. Source File: http://localhost/unitTests/ui/editors/iframe2.html?test=15 Line: 0 The web page renders nicely, and all my JavaScript code seems to be running okay too, so I'm reluctant to spend a potentially large amount of time chopping away at my code to track these messages down. However, can anyone suggest what's provoking the warnings?

  • jQuery code works in Firebug, but not on its own

    I'm having quite the brainbuster of an issue right now. I am trying to change a link's hash tag at the end from "respond" to "comments" with jQuery. I have a simple script that should do this, however it does not work. The link does not change. However, Firebug shows no errors and when I run the code in Firebug's console, it works just as I intend. Why doesn't this work on its own? Does anybody have a solution, I'm at my wits edge with this one.     Pretty basic question, however, I am very new to jQuery and javascript in general.   • Placing error message for a checkbox array

    Hello all. I am using the Validation Plugin for jQuery and it works wonders. Except when I have a group of checkboxes...the error messages will display right after the first checkbox...like so: <tbody> <c:forEach items="${list}" var="item"> <tr> <td align="center"> <input type="checkbox" name="selectItems" value="<c:out value="${item.numberPlate}"/>" /> </td> <!--some other columns--> </tr> </c:forEach> </tbody> I found that I can use a wrapper for these checkboxes ,then place the error message there, but I have no idea how to do it since I'm creating the rows dynamically.     Hi, I'm a jquery newbie - wanted to ask what might be the best strategy for achieving what I am after as I think it uses a mix of jquery functions : If list of items exceeds 5 items a 'more' link appears which when toggled will reveal the rest of the items. If items list is 5 or less no 'more' link is shown. Hide button also at bottom of long full revealed list. (perhaps this is toggle+pagination?) And then also that this can be used in multiple instances, as it is for multiple category menu's.(to be used in typical indexhibit websites structure like http://mikeyburton.com/) link 1 link 2 link 3 link 4 link 5 link 6 link 7 link 8 more Any help or links greatly appreciated.

  • Simple modal div in jQuery?

    I have tried almost all of the jQuery Modal plkugins I can find on the net but they are all much to bulky for what I need. I dont need all the fancy features, I want to be able to open a div and have the background of the page go transparent grey like the photo below and have my div be on top of it, that is all I need to do so I would like to write some jquery to do this instead of using a bulky plugin. Does anyone have any small code that can do this task? Is the transparent background an image or just css?
