• How to enable/create elements on the fly

  Hi all I am using a combination of PHP, jQuery and Spry to serve a series of listboxes in which a user will select first the type of vehicle, then the make, then the model and finally the specific model. All my listboxes (SELECT) are working fine, and they update properly using the Spry elements. Each listbox is populated from a different Spry XML Dataset, and this is my problem. If I present all four listboxes to the user, the script has to go and fetch all four lots of XML to populate all four listboxes, taking several seconds. What I want to do is to create/enable the listboxes in order, so at the user selects from the first listbox, the second is created/enabled, when they select from the second, the third is created/enabled... and so on. Setting the disabled attribute is no good because the script has already fetched the XML before this is processed. Any ideas?? Si

• Binning into timeslots - Is there a better way than using list comp?

  I have a dataset of events (tweets to be specific) that I am trying to bin / discretize. The following code seems to work fine so far (assuming 100 bins): HOUR = timedelta(hours=1) start = datetime.datetime(2009,01,01) z = [dt + x*HOUR for x in xrange(1, 100)] But then, I came across this fateful line at python docs 'This makes possible an idiom for clustering a data series into n-length groups using zip(*[iter(s)]*n)'. The zip idiom does indeed work - but I can't understand how (what is the * operator for instance?). How could I use to make my code prettier? I'm guessing this means I should make a generator / iterable for time that yields the time in graduations of an HOUR?

  I'm new to AOP so bear with me. Consider the following scenario: A state machine is used in a workflow engine, and after the state of the application is changed, a series of commands are executed. Depending on the state, different types of commands should be executed. As I see it, one implementation is to create List<IAction> and have each individual action determine whether it should execute. Would a Aspect Oriented process work as well? That is, could you create an aspect that notifies a class when a property changes, and execute the appropriate processes from that class? Would this help centralize the state specific rules?

  I have a series of queries against a very mega large database, and I have hundreds-of-thousands of ORs in WHERE clauses. What is the best and easiest way to optimize such SQL queries? I found some articles about creating temporary tables and using joins, but I am unsure. I'm new to serious SQL, and have been cutting and pasting results from one into the next.   I've been using the Silverlight Toolkit but I'm finding the quality lacking; in particular this memory leak / phantom point bug renders the Chart component completely unusable. Can anyone recommend a good chart / graph component for Silverlight 4.0? I'm looking for one that provides: multiple simultaneous series, both scatter and line multi-select of points configurable tool-tips automatic axis scaling real-time update of data That last point sounds trivial but is tripping up the Silverlight Toolkit Chart; if you rapidly change the axis range, it sometimes leaves phantom points behind in addition to the points it should be displaying.

  Hi all I have a series of asp:ImageButtons and one asp:Image(Big). Clicking on each ImageButton should change the ImageUrl of asp:Image to a new ImageUrl. How can we handle this using one Javascript function. Because I dont wanna code ImageButton_Click for each and every asp:ImageButton. This makes my application run very slow and also pass too many server requests. Any ideas ????How to design one powerful Javascript function. By the way when the user clicks on ImageButton...the ImageUrl that has to be set to asp:Image(Big) is same as that of ImageButton. This might help a bit. Thanks in advance

• jQuery AJAX & Multiple sp Result Sets

  Is it possible to use a stored procedure that returns multiple result sets in json format and process them as part of one request using ajax calls in jquery? In other words, I have a stored procedure that returns several result sets that are to be used with a series of select boxes that are all being filtered by the same criteria. If any of the select boxes is chosen that value is then passed to the stored procedure and all the subsequent select box updates reflect only results that match the filtered criteria. I don't want to have to call the same sp multiple times to process the results and was trying not to create multiple queries, so I'm wondering if it's possible to store more than one json result in a single request and then store and process them on the client side.

• Any strategies for assessing the trade-off between CPU loss and memory gain from compression of data

  Are very large TextProperties a burden? Should they be compressed? Say I have a information stored in 2 attributes of type TextProperty in my datastore entities. The strings are always the same length of 65,000 characters and have lots of repeating integers, a sample appearing as follows: entity.pixel_idx = 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,5,5,5,5,5,5,5,5,5,5,5,5....etc. entity.pixel_color = 2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,...etc. So these above could also be represented using much less storage memory by compressing say using only each integer and the length of its series ( '0,8' for '0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0') but then its takes time and CPU to compress and decompress? Any general ideas? Are there some tricks for testing different attempts to the problem?

  I'm attempting to extract a series of data values from a text file. The values are in the format: <MODIFIER NAME1 VALUE; MODIFIER NAME2 VALUE;> For the purposes of the current task that I have, I only care about extracting the VALUE that is situated next to each semicolon. What would the REGEX command look like that would isolate each of these VALUES (preferably so that I backreference all values in the replacement part of my processing.) I believe that ^(.*?); is somehow used, but I'm not seeing how to isolate only the word that is attached to the semicolon in a group for backreference use. Thanks!

  I have a dashboard with a series of widgets. Per specification, the widgets need to be buried under a /widgets/ directory. So I have added the following to my routes.php Router::connect('/widget/:controller/:action/*', array()); But I seem to be running into trouble on widgets/links/ and widgets/links/view/1 I am new to CakePHP, but this doesn't seem all that impressive.   The git command git log --format='%H' --follow -- foo.txt will give you the series of commits that touch foo.txt, following it across renames. I'm wondering if there's a git log command that will also print the corresponding historical file name beside each commit. It would be something like this, where we can interpret '%F' to be the (actually non-existent) placeholder for filename. git log --format='%H %F' --follow -- foo.txt I know this could be accomplished with git log --format='%H' --follow --numstat -- foo.txt but the output is not ideal since it requires some non-trivial parsing; each commit is strewn across multiple lines, and you'll still need to parse the file rename syntax ("bar.txt => foo.txt") to find what you're looking for.

  On a single/detail Custom Post Page I would like to display a custom nav of li's or divs in a sidebar that displays both title, excerpt and permalink for the next 3 posts within the custom post series. So if we are on custom post 3 then it would show 4, 5, 6 in the sidebar. • curl cookie problem in PHP

  hi as my client needs, I developed a code to login via cURl. login to www.web1.com and store cookies in cookie.txt go to www.web2.com and browse a page using that cookie.txt no problem with www.web2.com so when i want to do this with www.web3.com, the problem appears. the www.web3.com uses session and cookies itself and I have to gather and use them. it means I should have tow series of cookies, first those from www.web1.com , and second those from www.web3.com , then request the www.web3.com/somepage how I can do that?

• PHPUnit doesn't recognize file_exists()

  I've set up a project with unit test files in NetBeans. I set bootstrap to C:\www\foo\_tests\TestAutoload.php and put simple autoload method to this file: function __autoload( $class_name ) { // series of ifs if ( ... ) { $file_name = ... } if ( file_exists ( $file_name ) ) { require_once( $file_name ); } else { echo "autoload error"; } } All of my tests fail on autoload this way. They always output just "autoload error". If I don't check if file_exists and just use require_once( $file ) no matter what's in $file, it works perfectly. Anyone encountered anything like this before? It's not something I couldn't resolve by simply not checking whether file exists or not, but I'm interested why it does this and if I can cheat it somehow.

• Context menu for loaded SWF

  I have a Flex app with a viewport that loads a series of other swfs. I would like to place a context menu over top of the SWFs when the user right-clicks. To that end, I have set up a fairly standard context menu where each item has a ContextMenuEvent.MENU_ITEM_SELECT event handler. One problem: The eventHandler never gets called. If I place the context-menu code anywhere else in the app, i.e. not on top of a loaded SWF, everything works fine. However, when I place the exact same code on the SWF viewport, the context menu items appear, but the eventHandlers are never called. Any ideas?

  As the title says: What techniques are available for filtering objects when using zodb? The equivalent in SQL terms would be something like filtering results by a date range. Or only returning rows with a particular value set in a column. If I had a series of blog posts and only wanted ones done in the past month, what would I have to do? Is there any way to optimize these kinds of "queries"? My gut tells me iterating over all the objects in a relationship simply to perform a test is less than optimal.

• Is there are standard way to store a database schema outside a python app

  I am working on a small database application in Python (currently targeting 2.5 and 2.6) using sqlite3. It would be helpful to be able to provide a series of functions that could setup the database and validate that it matches the current schema. Before I reinvent the wheel, I thought I'd look around for libraries that would provide something similar. I'd love to have something akin to RoR's migrations. xml2ddl doesn't appear to be meant as a library (although it could be used that way), and more importantly doesn't support sqlite3. I'm also worried about the need to move to Python 3 one day given the lack of recent attention to xml2ddl. Are there other tools around that people are using to handle this?

  I'm attempting to set up navigation withing a Drupal site and am having a bit of trouble. I'm trying to have a series of pages that each have a set number of sub-pages. These pages will need to link to one another. All pages will contain similar content. For instance: Page 1 will have sub-pages a, b, c, d, e, and f all with content related to the topic of page 1 Page 2 will have sub-pages a, b, c, d, e, and f with content related to the topic of page 2 I'd like these links to appear in a horizontal nav bar on each page. Is it possible to accomplish this using the book module? I've also read some information about the taxonomy menu module that sounds promising, but I'm not really sure how that would work. • SSIS - Connection Management Within a Loop

  Hi I have the following SSIS package: The problem is that within the Foreach loop a connection is opened and closed for each iteration. On running SQL Profiler I see a series of: Audit Login RPC:Completed Audit Lout The duration for the login and the RPC that actually does the work is minimal. However, the duration for the logout is significant, running into several seconds each. This causes the JOB to run very slowly - taking many hours. I get the same problem when running either on a test server or stand-alone laptop. Could anyone please suggest how I may change the package to improve performance? Also, I have noticed that when running the package from Visual Studio, it looks as though it continues to run with the component blocks going amber then green but actually all the processing has been completed and SQL profiler has dropped silent?   Hi All, I'm working in Ubuntu with MySql and I also have Query Browser and Administrator installed, I'm not afraid of the command line either if it helps. I want simply to be able to run a query and see a result set but then convert that result set into a series of commands that could be used to create the same rows in a table of an identical schema. I hope the question makes sense, it's quite a simple problem and one that must have been solved but I can't for the life of me work out where this kind of conversion is made available. • Session Timeout in VB.NET

  Hi, I have written a page with an iFrame that basically cycles through a series of internal pages on our server displaying daily activity for our company. The problem I think is that it sporadically loses its session and redirects back to the login screen to keep losing its session which is the default behavior for anyone on our site trying to access a webpage without being logged in. I have set the session timeout to 4hrs, the iframe cycles through 6 pages anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes on each, and I have even set the META refresh on the page to refresh every 3 hours. I don't understand what else could possibly stop this page from staying active. Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
