  Running a scala script on Mac OS X results in the following error: Unable to establish connection to compilation daemon I googled and found a page reported the same problem: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=576568 To solve the problem, the page said: Can you please tell what does /etc/sysctl.d/bindv6only.conf contain? If the value is 1, can you try to: 1) sudo sed -i 's/net.ipv6.bindv6only\ =\ 1/net.ipv6.bindv6only\ =\ 0/' \ /etc/sysctl.d/bindv6only.conf && sudo invoke-rc.d procps restart 2) Then, run scala/fsc as usual and see if the bug is still there. • Getting an empty response when calling CouchDB over ajax

  I'm new to CouchDB, so please bear with me. I have an instance of CouchDB running on a VM. I can access it just fine through the browser via futon or directly at: http://192.168.62.128:5984/articles/hot_dog Calling that URL in a browser returns the proper JSON. But, when I try to call that exact same URL via ajax, I get nothing: var ajaxUrl = 'http://192.168.62.128:5984/articles/hot_dog'; $.getJSON(ajaxUrl, null, function(data) { alert(data); }); Looking at the response header with Firebug shows me that the HTTP response was 200 and the content-length is the right size. Even the Etag matches with what is in CouchDB. But the response itself is empty! The URL is absolutely right; I've triple checked, and copy/pasted it directly (and besides it wouldn't give a 200 response if it weren't). I'm using jQuery 1.4.2, and CouchDB 0.8 What's going on?

  I'm using a GZIPInputStream in my program, and I know that the performance would be helped if I could get Java running my program in parallel. In general, is there a command-line option for the standard VM to run on many cores? It's running on just one as it is. Thanks! Edit I'm running plain ol' Java SE 6 update 17 on Windows XP. Would putting the GZIPInputStream on a separate thread explicitly help? No! Do not put the GZIPInputStream on a separate thread! Do NOT multithread I/O!   We have the following tools in place: Subversion (Version 1.5.9) Polarion (version 3.2.2) Polarion is based on Subversion, so on every action that changes anything (which is often the case), Polarion will use a Subversion commit to change anything. All things are currently stored in one and only one repository, so every commit of every user (some 100-200 on the same repository) will trigger the pre-commit hook. So what is the best strategy to provide pre-commit hooks that will trigger only for some, but not all projects run as fast as possible, because every pre-commit hook will block all other commits. We have tried to implement pre-commit hooks with Java (using SVNKit), but this will start on every commit a Java VM. So any ideas how to implement that nicely?

  So basically I have this public class Ticket{ public TicketNumber {get; set;} ..a bunch more properties... } I want to add some properties using a subclass like this using subsumption instead of composition. public class TicketViewModel(Ticket ticket){ //set each property from value of Ticket passed in this.TicketNumber = ticket.TicketNumber; ...a bunch more lines of code.. //additional VM properties public SelectList TicketTypes {get; private set;} } How do I instantiate the properties without having to write all the lines like this this.TicketNumber = ticket.TicketNumber; Is there some kind of shortcut? Something like in the subclass constructor? this = ticket; Obviously this doesn't work but is their some way so I don't have to modify my subclass if addng/removing a property to the parent class? Or something?

• Why does my Windows Form app timeout when repeatedly hitting IIS 7 externally?

  hey guys, I've got a very simple Windows Form app that hits an IIS 7 site about 2000 times in the space of a few seconds (using threads). When I run that app on the server itself, using either localhost or the ip address, everything is totally fine. However, when I run the app on my dev box, using the ip address, I get an error from the "GetResponse" method: The operation has timed out The App can definitely connect to the site, because it consistently either starts throwing the timeout error after 10 or so hits (no more than 11), or it throws the timeout error immediately. What's going on? It's hitting IIS 7 on a Windows Server 2008 VM (external box), Windows Firewall is OFF. My App is running locally on my dev box as the admin. cheers

  Anyone who has tried to implement RoutedCommands in WPF using M-V-VM has undoubtedly run into issues. Commands (non-UI commands that is) should be implemented in the ViewModel. For instance if I needed to save a CustomerViewModel then I would implement that as a command directly on my CustomerViewModel. However if I wanted to pop up a window to show the users addresses I would implement a ShowCustomerAddress command directly in the view since this a UI specific function. How do I define the command bindings in the viewmodel, and use them in the view?

• WPF ItemsControl - how to know when the items finished loading, so that I can focus the first one?

  Hi everyone, I have an ItemsControl in my View, that is bound to an ObservableCollection from ViewModel. The collection is filled, and afterwards an event from VM to view is raised (think search results and SearchFinished event). I would like to move keyboard focus to the first item in an ItemsControl, but when I do it in View's code-behind when handling SearchFinished, the items are not yet rendered (the collection is filled already, but wpf's rendering is asynchronous and didn't happen yet), so there is nothing to focus (Focus() needs to have the items' visual tree already constructed). I wanted to do (myItemsControl.ItemContainerGenerator.ContainerFromIndex(0) as UIElement).Focus();, but as the 0th item is not yet loaded, ContainerFromIndex(0) returns null. I tried delaying it with Dispatcher.BeginInvoke... with low priority, but that is dependent on exact timing and usually doesn't work. How can I wait until the first item in ItemsControl is Loaded?

  I recently stumbled over buildbot and wanted to give it a try. My problem is that I have to run it under Windows because we don't use Linux on workstations or servers in my company. I've already tried different installations: python 2.6, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.6, buildbot 0.7.12 python 2.6, pywin32-214-py2.6, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.6, buildbot 0.7.12 python 2.4, pywin32-214-py2.4, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.4, buildbot 0.7.12 and tried to run it in a Windows XP VM. In all installations I ran the buildbot test suite and got several errors and the buildbot documentation sais that no test should fail. Does anybody here have experience with buildbot under Windows? Is it worth the pain or do I have to use Linux?

• Handling newline character in input between Windows and Linux

  I think this is a standard problem which may have been asked before but I could not get the exact answer so posting the issue. The issue is that our server is running on a linux box. We access the server over the browser on a window box to enter data into field which is supposed to contain multiple lines which user can enter by pressing the enter key after each line Abc Def GHI When this input field (this is a text area),is read on the linux machine, we want to split the data based on new line character. I had three question on this. Does the incoming data contain "\r\n" or "\n" If incoming data does contain "\r\n", the linux line.separator property (vm property) would not work for me as it would say "\n" and therefore may leave "\r" in the data. If "\r" is left in the data, if I open the file on a windows machine, will this mean a newline character? Finally can anyone tell me the standard way to deal with this issue?

  Problem Statement I'm writing a very basic WPF application to alter the contents of a configuration file. The data format is an XML file with a schema. I want to use it as a learning project for MVVM, so I have duly divided the code into Model: C# classes auto-generated from xsd.exe View-Model: View-friendly representation of the Model. View: Xaml and empty code behind I understand how the View-Model can make View-binding a breeze. However, doesn't that leave the View-Model <- Model semantics very awkward? Xsd.exe generates C# classes with arrays for multiple XML elements. However, at the V-VM level you need Observable Collections. Questions: Does this really mean I have to keep two completely different collection types representing the same data in coherence? What are the best practices for maintaining coherence between the Model and the View-Model?

  Hi there, I am developing a simple app which does a little bit of image-processing. It's divided in two activities; the main one with some display elements and the second one which is used to capture images off the phone's camera. To discribe my problem: I start the app, capture an image (by starting a new Intent with the subactivity) and all data is displayed correctly. If I capture another image after this, I run in an java.lang.OutOfMemoryError - bitmap size exceeds VM budget I dont store the captured bitmap, in the second activity I just extract some data from it and pass it to the main-activity; finishing (finish()) the sub-activity afterwards. I really dont know what I can do about it.   I am following the M-V-VM pattern for my WPF UI. I would like to hook up a command to the TextChanged event of a TextBox to a command that is in my ViewModel class. The only way I can conceive of completing this task is to inherit from the TextBox control, and implement ICommandSource. I can then instruct the command to be fired from the TextChanged event. This seems to be too much work for something which appears to be so simple. Is there an easier way (than subclassing the TextBox and implementing ICommandSource) to hook up the TextChanged event to my ViewModel class?

• Distribute CouchDB as part of a Rails app?

  I am working on a Rails project and the Architect has asked me to investigate bundling CouchDB into to application so that it can be deployed by Capistrano across multiple platforms and managed by Rake. My expectation was that I could set up the Erlang VM on the various environments and then distribute the CouchDB application with Capistrano. However I can't find any option to download CouchDB without the Erlang runtime. I can, however see an option to build CouchDB from source which I assume is platform dependent. I am new to Erlang and CouchBD, am I missing something? Is there a way to bundle CouchDB into a Rails app and distribute it across multiple platforms?

• What's the big difference between those two binary files?

  These are two files (contained in the tar.bz2) that were generated using a just-in-time compiler for a game engine. The generated code from ui-linux.bin is from a x86_64 gcc compiler and the ui-windows.bin from the same brand of compiler but targetting win x86_64 (mingw-w64). I've attempted to debug a problem that occurs only on the windows version and i stumbled upon what it seems to be different end-binary code. However, the input assembly code was virtually identical (only difference being pointer representations as int). (there's theoretically no winabi/unixabi conflict since that's taken care of by an attribute flag on certain declarations involved). Any idea what it might be that makes these two binary codes different? The C for the mini-compiler and base assembly producing it appears compatible at first glance. http://www0.org/vm/bins.tar.bz2

  I am trying to use the new LiveConnect features introduced in Java 6 Update 10. Code looks like this (copied from the applet tutorial): Class<?> c = Class.forName("com.sun.java.browser.plugin2.DOM"); Method m = c.getMethod("getDocument", java.applet.Applet.class); Document document = (Document) m.invoke(null, this); But all I am getting is a ClassNotFoundException for the entry-point class. This on the Mac, 10.6, with both Firefox and Safari. Java Plug-in 1.6.0_22 Using JRE version 1.6.0_22-b04-307-10M3261 Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM Is this not implemented on the Mac? Or do I need to configure something? All I need to do is get and set the value of form elements on the page, so I would be fine with an older (pre-6u10) API if that works better.
