  • Dictionary returning a default value if the key does not exist

    - by wasatz
I find myself using the current pattern quite often in my code nowadays var dictionary = new Dictionary<type, IList<othertype>>(); // Add stuff to dictionary var somethingElse = dictionary.ContainsKey(key) ? dictionary[key] : new List<othertype>(); // Do work with the somethingelse variable Or sometimes var dictionary = new Dictionary<type, IList<othertype>>(); // Add stuff to dictionary IList<othertype> somethingElse; if(!dictionary.TryGetValue(key, out somethingElse) { somethingElse = new List<othertype>(); } Both of these ways feel quite roundabout. What I really would like is something like dictionary.GetValueOrDefault(key) Now, I could write an extension method for the dictionary class that does this for me, but I figured that I might be missing something that already exists. SO, is there a way to do this in a way that is more "easy on the eyes" without writing an extension method to dictionary?

  • ModalPopupExtender z-index value decreases after every show

    - by ryanulit
    This is a new one I have never seen before. I have a gridview containing a bunch of categories that can be edited by clicking on the respective "Edit" link within the gridview. The modalpopupextender is then shown programmatically (.show() method) and the user is allowed to edit the category. Then the modal popup is programmtically hidden (.hide() method) when the user presses "Update" or "Cancel". For some reason after every new show of the modal popup, the z-index is decreasing by 1000 until it is hidden behind everything on my page. It starts at 7000 for the very first show. Therefore the user would not be able to edit an infinite number of categories if they wanted to. Any ideas why this is happening? Css class used on modalpopupextender: DIV.box-pop { border: #95aab9 1px solid; background-color: #ECF1F5; display: block; position: relative; margin: -6px 6px 6px -6px; padding: 4px; z-index: 10000; } Panel used for popup: <asp:Panel ID="PanelModify" runat="server" Width="250px" CssClass="box-pop"> <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanelModify" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional"> <ContentTemplate> <table width="100%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="3"> <tr> <td> <div class="box"> <h1> <span><strong> <asp:Literal ID="LiteralModalTitle" runat="server" /></strong></span> </h1> <table border="0" width="100%"> <tr> <td> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBoxModifiedText" runat="server" Width="173px" ValidationGroup="Modify"></asp:TextBox> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="RequiredFieldValidatorModifiedText" runat="server" ValidationGroup="Modify" ErrorMessage="*" ControlToValidate="TextBoxModifiedText" Display="Dynamic"> </asp:RequiredFieldValidator> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <asp:Button ID="ButtonUpdate" runat="server" Text="Update" ValidationGroup="Modify" /><asp:Button ID="ButtonInsert" runat="server" Text="Insert" ValidationGroup="Modify" /> &nbsp; <asp:Button ID="ButtonCancel" runat="server" Text="Cancel" CausesValidation="false" /> </td> </tr> </table> </div> </td> </tr> </table> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> </asp:Panel> <ajaxToolkit:ModalPopupExtender ID="ModalPopupExtenderModify" runat="server" PopupControlID="PanelModify" TargetControlID="ButtonHideModify" BackgroundCssClass="modalBackground"> </ajaxToolkit:ModalPopupExtender> <asp:Button ID="ButtonHideModify" runat="server" Style="display: none;" />

  • Database entries existence depends on time / boolean value of a field changed automatically

    - by lisak
Hey, I have this situation here. An auction system listing orders that are "active" (their deadline didn't occur yet) There is a lot of orders so it is better to have a field "active" instead of listing them based on time queries I'm not a database expert, just a user. What is the best way to implement this scenario ? Do I have to manually check the "deadLine" field and change "active" status every once in a while ? Is Mysql able to change the field automatically ? How demanding are queries of type "select orders where "deadline" has passed " Do I need to use TIMESTAMP (long data type of number of milisecond since UTC epoch time or DATETIME for the queries to the database to be more efficient ? Finally I have to move old order entries to a different backup table .

  • iPhone UnitTesting UITextField value and otest error 133

    - by Justin Galzic
Are UITextFields not meant to be part of the LogicTests and instead part of the ApplicationTest target? I have a factory class that is responsible for creating and returning an (iPhone) UITextField and I'm trying to unit test it. It is part of my Logic Test target and when I try to build and run the tests, I get a build error about: /Developer/Tools/RunPlatformUnitTests.include:451:0 Test rig '/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator3.1.2.sdk/ 'Developer/usr/bin/otest' exited abnormally with code 133 (it may have crashed). In the build window, this points to the following line in: "RunPlatformUnitTests.include" RPUTIFail ${LINENO} "Test rig '${TEST_RIG}' exited abnormally with code ${TEST_RIG_RESULT} (it may have crashed)." My unit test looks like this: #import <SenTestingKit/SenTestingKit.h> #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> // Test-subject headers. #import "TextFieldFactory.h" @interface TextFieldFactoryTests : SenTestCase { } @end @implementation TextFieldFactoryTests #pragma mark Test Setup/teardown - (void) setUp { NSLog(@"%@ setUp", self.name); } - (void) tearDown { NSLog(@"%@ tearDown", self.name); } #pragma mark Tests - (void) testUITextField_NotASecureField { NSLog(@"%@ start", self.name); UITextField *textField = [TextFieldFactory createTextField:YES]; NSLog(@"%@ end", self.name); } The class I'm trying to test: // Header file #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface TextFieldFactory : NSObject { } +(UITextField *)createTextField:(BOOL)isSecureField; @end // Implementation file #import "TextFieldFactory.h" @implementation TextFieldFactory +(UITextField *)createTextField:(BOOL)isSecureField { // x,y,z,w are constants declared else where UITextField *textField = [[[UITextField alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(x, y, z, w)] autorelease]; // some initialization code return textField; } @end

  • ICU MessageFormat Currency Value Precison Lost

    - by Travis
This may be a niche question but I'm working with ICU to format currency strings. I've bumped into a situation that I don't quite understand. When using the MesssageFormat class, why for a certain locale (Korea "ko"KR" for example) does it round currency values (e.g. 100.50 becomes ?101). For most locales (such as the US "en_US"), the precision of the argument passed in remains untouched (e.g. 100.50 becomes $100.50). I thought this might be a default rounding issue that some locales have (Swiss Francs "fr_CH" for example have a default 0.05 rounding) but South Korea "ko_KR" has none. Any ideas?

  • Symfony forms question (restoring selected value of a dynamically populated sfWidgetFormSelect widge

    - by Stick it to THE MAN
I am using Symfony 1.3.2 with Propel ORM on Ubuntu 9.10. I have developed a form that dynamically populates a select widget with cities in a selected country, using AJAX. Before the data entered on the form is saved, I validate the form. If validation fails, the form is presented back to the user for correction. However, because the country list is dynamically generated, the form that is presented for correction does not have a valid city selected (it is empty, since the country widget has not changed yet). This is inconvenient for the user, because it means they have to select ANOTHER country (so the change event is fired), and then change back to the original country they selected, then FINALLY select the city which they had last selected. All of this is forced on the user because another (possibly unrelated) field did not vaildate. I tried $form-getValue('widget_name'), called immediately after $form-bind(), but it seems (infact, IIRC, if form fails to validate, all the values are reset to null) - so that does not work. I am currently trying a nasty hack which involves the use of directly accesing the input (i.e. tainted) data via $_POST, and setting them into a flash variable - but I feel its a very nasty hack) What I'm trying to do is a common use case scenario - is there a better way to do this, than hacking around with $_POST etc?

  • Database design - alternatives for Entity Attribute Value (EAV)

    - by Bob
Hi, see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/695752/product-table-many-kinds-of-product-each-product-has-many-parameters for similar topic. My question: i want to design a database, that will be used for a production facility of different types of products where each product has its own (number of) parameters. because i want the serial numbers to be in one tabel for overview purposes i have a problem with these different paraeters . One solution could be EAV, but it has its downsides, certainly because we have +- 5 products with every product +- 20.000 serial numbers (records). it looks a bit overkill to me... I just don't know how one could design a database so that you have an attribute in a mastertable that says: 'hey, you could find details of this record in THAT detail-table". 'in a way that you qould easely query the results) currenty i am using Visual Basic & Acces 2007. but i'm going to Visual Basic & MySQL. thanks for your help. Bob

  • Oracle Trigger to persist value

    - by Jose Jose
I have a column that I need to be able to guarantee never gets set to anything other than "N" - I thought a trigger would be the perfect solution for this, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it so that anytime the column gets set to something other than "N" I reset it back to "N" Any pointers? EDIT: I wouldn't want to do a constraint because the application that will potentially change it to Y is outside of my control and I don't want it to be getting errors when it sets it to Y, I just want to passively set it back to N without fanfare.

  • How to nest an Enum inside the value of an Enum

    - by Mathieu
I'd like to know if it is possible in Java to nest Enums. Here what i'd like to be able to do : Have an enum Species made of CAT and DOG wich would grant me access to sub enums of the available CAT and DOG breeds. For example, i'd like to be able to test if wether a CAT or a DOG and if an animal is a PERSAN CAT or a PITBULL DOG. CAT and DOG breeds must be distinct enums ,i.e a CatBreeds enum and a DogBreeds enum. Here is an example of access pattern i'd like to use : Species : Species.CAT Species.DOG Breeds : Species.CAT.breeds.PERSAN Species.DOG.breeds.PITBULL

  • PHP splitting arrays into groups based on one field's value

    - by Dan

Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => a [1] => Alanis Morissette ) [1] => Array ( [0] => a [1] => Alesha Dixon ) [2] => Array ( [0] => a [1] => Alexandra Burke ) [3] => Array ( [0] => b [1] => Britney Spears ) [4] => Array ( [0] => b [1] => Bryan Adams ) ) I'd like to display them grouped by that first initial, eg: A - Alanis Morissette Alesha Dixon Alexandra Burke B - Britney Spears Bryan Adams etc... Is this at all possible?

  • Silverlight4 disable textbox required validation when form loads with initial value (null)

    - by Jay
I am trying to implement validation using IDataErrorInfo or INotifyDataErrorInfo but either way I am struggling to make it work only once user start entering data or clicking save button. Since I am using MVVM, I am setting my view's datacontext to ViewModel and my ViewModel is implementing IDataErrorInfo / INotifyDataErrorInfo. I need to make sure validation happens but not when form loads up. Anyone has got any suggestion how I can implement? Thanks

  • Edit, select value from UITableView on the iPhone

    - by Anthony D
I have a UITableView with a list of names, representing server configurations. I want the user to be able to select a server configuration, add a server config, edit a server config, or just cancel out of the view and return to the main view. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to achieve all of that functionality in this view. To select, the user should be able to just tap the server config name and a check will appear next to the name then the user is taken back to the main view automatically (or use a save button instead?). To edit the server config, I would also like the user to be able to tap the server config name and be taken to a detail screen where changes can be made. How can I accomplish both since I want both to be done by tapping the server name (row)? Right now the cancel button seems out of place since the screen is accessed via a UINavigationController. Any suggestions?

  • Django query if field value is one of multiple choices

    - by Nathan
Say I want to model a system where a piece of data can have multiple tags (e.g. a question on a StackOverflow is the data, it's set of tags are the tags). I can model this in Django with the following: class Tag(models.Model): name = models.CharField(10) class Data(models.Model): tags = models.ManyToManyField(Tag) Given a set of strings, what's the best way to go about finding all Data objects that have one of these strings as the name of a tag in their tag list. I've come up with the following, but can't help thinking there is a more "Djangonic" way. Any ideas? tags = [ "foo", "bar", "baz" ] q_objects = Q( tags__name = tags[0] ) for t in tags[1:]: q_objects = q_objects | Q( tags__name = t ) data = Data.objects.filter( q_objects ).distinct()

  • How to order by a known id value in mysql

    - by markj
Hi, is it possible to order a select from mysql by using a known id first. Example: $sql = "SELECT id, name, date FROM TABLE ORDER BY "id(10)", id DESC Not sure if the above makes sense but what I would like to do is first start ordering by the known id which is 10 which I placed in quotes "id(10)". I know that cannot work as is in the query but it's just to point out what I am trying to do. If something similar can work I would appreciate it. Thanks.

  • Using NSNumberFormatter to get a decimal value from an international currency string

    - by Duncan A
It seems that the NSNumberFormatter can't parse Euro (and probably other) currency strings into a numerical type. Can someone please prove me wrong. I'm attempting to use the following to get a numeric amount from a currency string: NSNumberFormatter *currencyFormatter = [[[NSNumberFormatter alloc] init] autorelease]; [currencyFormatter setNumberStyle:NSNumberFormatterCurrencyStyle]; NSNumber *currencyNumber = [currencyFormatter numberFromString:currencyString]; This works fine for UK and US currency amounts. It even deals with $ and £ and thousands separators with no problems. However, when I use it with euro currency amounts (with the Region Format set to France or Germany in the settings app) it returns an empty string. All of the following strings fail: 12,34 € 12,34 12.345,67 € 12.345,67 It's worth noting that these strings match exactly what comes out of the NSNumberFormatter's stringFromNumber method when using the corresponding locale. Setting the Region Format to France in the settings app, then setting currencyNumber to 12.34 in the following code, results in currencyString being set to '12,34 €' : NSNumberFormatter *currencyFormatter = [[[NSNumberFormatter alloc] init] autorelease]; [currencyFormatter setNumberStyle:NSNumberFormatterCurrencyStyle]; NSString *currencyString = [currencyFormatter stringFromNumber:currencyNumber]; It would obviously be fairly easy to hack around this problem specifically for the Euro but I'm hoping to sell this app in as many countries as possible and I'm thinking that a similar situation is bound to occur with other locales. Does anyone have an answer? TIA, Duncan

  • Saving a select count(*) value to an integer (SQL Server)

    - by larryq
Hi everyone, I'm having some trouble with this statement, owing no doubt to my ignorance of what is returned from this select statement: declare @myInt as INT set @myInt = (select COUNT(*) from myTable as count) if(@myInt <> 0) begin print 'there's something in the table' end There are records in myTable, but when I run the code above the print statement is never run. Further checks show that myInt is in fact zero after the assignment above. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I assumed that a select count would return a scalar that I could use above?
