  • Writing a basic shader for large input files

    I started writing a shader for my iOS app and instead of starting from scratch i used this tutorial here: http://www.raywenderlich.com/3664/opengl-es-2-0-for-iphone-tutorial I wrote an import function, first to import wavefront .obj models. My problem is that with I can't handle larger inputs (with a simple cube it was working). I realized that the indices array is an array of GLubyte values, which is unsigned char, so as a result i cant have more than 256 indexes. I modified it to GLuint, but then only get a blank screen.   • Why can't WARs share session info?

    I have seen several developers looking for a solution for this problem: accessing session information from a different WAR (even when inside the same EAR) - here are some samples: Any way to share session state between different applications in tomcat?, Access session of another web application, different WAR files, shared resources, Tomcat: How to share data between two applications?, What does the crossContext attribute do in Tomcat? Does it enable session sharing? and so on... From all I have searched, there are some specific solutions depending on the container, but it is somehow 'contrary to the specification'. I have also looked through Java EE specification without any luck on finding an answer. Some developers talk about coupling between web applications, but I tend to disagree. What is the reason one would keep WARs inside the same EAR if not coupling? EJBs, for instance, can be accessed locally (even if inside another EJB JAR within the same EAR). More specifically, one of my WARs handles authentication and authorization, and I would like to share this information with other WARs (in the same EAR). I have managed to work around similar problems before by packaging WARs as JARs and putting them into a singular WAR project (WEB-INF/lib). Yet I do not like this solution (it requires a huge effort on servlet naming and so on). And no solution has answered the first (and most important) question: Why can't WARs share session information?

  • Basic memcached question

    I have been reading up on distributed hashing. I learnt that consistent hashing is used for distributing the keys among cache machines. I also learnt that, a key is duplicated on mutiple caches to handle failure of cache hosts. But what I have come across on memcached doesn't seem to be in alignment with all this. I read that all cache nodes are independent of each other and that if a cache goes down, requests go to DB. Theres no mention of cache miss on a host resulting in the host directing the request to another host which could either be holding the key or is nearer to the key. Can you please tell me how these two fit together? Is memcached a very preliminary form of distributed hashing which doesnt have much sophistication?

  • Install Visual Studio 2010 on SSD drive, or HDD for better performance?

    I'm going to be installing Visual Studio 2010. I already have my source code on the SSD. For best performance, especially time to open the solution and compiling time, would it be better to install VS 2010 on the SSD or install it on the HDD. If both were on the SSD, loading the VS 2010 files would be quicker, but there would be contention between loading the source and the program files. Thanks!

    I'm building my very first game with XNA and i'm trying to get my sprite to run. Everything is working fine for the first sprite. E.g : if I go right(D) my sprite is looking right , if I go left(A) my sprite is looking left and if I don't touch anything my sprite is the default one. Now what I want to do is if the sprite goes Right, i want to alternatively change sprites (left leg, right leg, left leg etc..) xCurrent is the current sprite drawn xRunRight is the first running Sprite and xRunRight1 is the one that have to exchange with xRunRight while running right.     I've been trying to get to grasps with Ruby (for all of an hour) and this is my first language. I've got the following code: var_comparison = 5 print "Please enter a number: " my_num = Integer(gets.chomp) if my_num > var_comparison print "You picked a number greater than 5!" elsif my_num < var_comparison print "You picked a number less than 5!" elsif my_num > 99 print "Your number is too large, man." else print "You picked the number 5!" end Clearly the interpreter has no way of distinguishing between accepting the rule 5 or 99. How do I make it so that any number between 6-99 returns "You picked a number greater than 5!", but a number 100 or greater returns "Your number is too large, man!"? Do I need to specifically state a range somehow? How would I best do that? Would it by the normal range methods e.g. if my_num 6..99 or if my_num.between(6..99) ?
