    I am trying to do an app, to where when it launches, it will detect audio, and then play it back automatically. NO BUTTONS, NOthing to press. Just a picture of something then, it listens for audio, then plays it back. Similar to the Talking Carl app in the App Store. Any ideas/help? Would appreciate it, if i could use the code with IB.

  • Make exact mp4 (H264) format for uploading to youtube

    With ffmpeg I'm converting video from mp3 and picture to upload it to youtube. After upload, conversion fails. Reasons are unknown. I believe the problem is in format. By the way If I'm uploading file 5 minutes length, it fails if I upload 30 seconds of this file it succeeds. I have donwload mp4 file from youtube. Then I uploaded it, it is done very fast. So a nice solution would be to convert videos to the same format that is done by google. One of these is the app cache that allows web pages to run on the client, from the cache, without a connection to the internet. Together with Local Storage you can also save data permanently "in" the page. My question is, would it then be possible to make a website that when visited and set as a web clip (bookmark on the home screen), could be accessed again, at any moment. Using HTML5, Javascript and css, you can make some very good apps and at the same time avoid the pricey developer fee, the harsh app approval and the single platform development platform? Or am I just dreaming?

    Hi! I'm relatively new to Django and I'm designing a website that primarily needs usability experience, speaking of optimized CSS, HTML5 and UI stuff. It's very easy to use Django for data/Model centric design. Just designing a couple of Python classes and ./manage.py syncdb - there's your Model. But I'm dealing with a significant amount of View centric challenges. (Different user classes, different tasks, different design challenges.) The official Django tutorial cursorily goes through using a "Template". Is there any Design centric guide for Django, or a set of Templates that are ready and useable? I don't want to start from scratch using JS, HTML5, Ajax and everything. From the Model layer perspective Django is very rapid and delivering a working base system. I wonder whether there's something like that for the Views.

  • sproutcore or cappucino for web app development?

    I recently found out about the sproutcore and capuccino frameworks for web app development as proper MVC approach to creating Desktop-like applications. As far as I could understand, the main difference between the two frameworks is that Cappucino abstracts away the HTML+CSS+Javascript to Objective-J - a new programming language developed be the creators of Capuccino that adds OO capabilities to Javascript, whereas Sproutcore uses HTML5,CSS,Javascript. After lots of pondering, I thought it's probably best to go with technologies we know, so I downloaded the Sproutcore tools and did the tutorials, and I have to say I was very impressed. Just the kind of thing I was looking for, for organizing a complex web app. However, I just stumbled across the following link: http://charlesjolley.sys-con.com/node/1341228 in which Charles Jolley (the creator of Sproutcore) syas that he's tired of waiting for the HTML5 and ECMAScript5 specs to get finalized, and announces that from version 1.1 onwards they will be switching to Objective-J !     I'm using Rails 3.0.0.beta3 and Haml 3.0.0.rc.2, and I can't find where I need to place the configuration lines for Haml (nor what they are in the new version, for that matter). Using Rails 2.3.5 and Haml 2, I would do Haml::Template.options[:format] = :html5 in environment.rb. Or, in Sinatra, set :haml, {:format => :html5} in my main file. But in Rails 3 everything's been changed around, and no matter where I put that configuration line, I get an undefined method or undefined object error.

    I'm trying to make an HTML5 canvas element fullscreen with the window.innerHeight and innerWidth properties. Unfortunately, on Chrome 10, when I set use the following doctype: <!DOCTYPE HTML> ...there is some extra scrolling space indicated by scroll bars which shouldn't appear. Without a doctype, everything is fine. The element is an HTML5 canvas, so styling with 100% will only stretch the content. Is it worth using a doctype which breaks my functionality (without which might be bad?), or should I subtract, say, 15px from the values in order to keep scroll bars from appearing? (which is kludgy)

  • Generating Dynamic web pages without server side scripting

    Hi guys, I am trying to control a media device which has lot of multimedia content that it can play using another device(remote control device) like an ipad connected to the LAN. (UPnP) I want the media device to be able to send the content listing to the remote device so that it will be rendered as a webpage on the remote controller. And actions on the webpages needs to be sent to the the device as commands to execute (like play, pause, next etc). The media device is an embedded device, hence can't have any server side scripting, all has to be done on the client side. I want the page rendered to be HTML5. So, is it possible to generate dynamic HTML5 pages using just client side scripting? Thanks a lot. I am an embedded systems developer hence clueless about the web designing stuff.

  • Which external DSLs do you like to use?

    The reason I'm asking is because right now there seems to be tendency to make DSLs internal. One example is LINQ in C# and VB. You can use it against in-memory objects, or you can use it as a replacement of SQL or other external DSL. Another example is HTML5 vs XHTML2. XHTML2 supported decentralized extensibility through namespaces, in other words you embed external DSL code (XForms, SVG, MathML, etc.) in your XHTML code. Sadly HTML5 doesn't seem to have such mechanism, instead new features are internal (e.g. <canvas> instead of SVG). I'd like to know what other developers think about this. Do you like using external DSLs ? Which ones ? If not, why ?

    I need to put up a few videos on a Webapp and I'm a bit lost. My requirements are: DRM is not a concern at all it should work on the iPhone (and iPad) and on the main browsers (Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera). it is not a problem at all if the video doesn't play on Linux (because it's a video/screencast of a Windows/OS X software targetted at, well, Windows and OS X users) it is not a problem at all if it also works on Linux (I'm a Linux user myself) Can a unique format be served (like H.264) and play without any additional work on my part or do I need to convert the videos to different formats and have the webapp serve different video formats depending on the browser used? Should I use the "video" tag of HTML5 when I detect an HTML5 capable browser? What's the "safest" bet here? I take it that Flash is out of the equation seen that iPhone/iPad is a requirement.

    I have a few MP4s that i want to upload to my flickr account but they have a maximum size of 500mb as mine is only about 550 i was planing to simply split them in half then upload them, but i want to make sure all the meta data is included but it does not seem to be.   • Creating a podcast feed for iTunes & BlackBerry users using WCF Syndication

     In my previous post, I showed how to create a RSS feed using WCF Syndication.  Next, I'll show how to add the additional tags needed to turn a RSS feed into an iTunes podcast.   A podcast is merely a RSS feed with some special characteristics: iTunes RSS tags.  These are additional tags beyond the standard RSS spec.  Apple has a good page on the requirements. Audio file enclosure.  This is a link to the audio file (such as mp3) hosted by your site.  Apple doesn't host the audio, they just read the meta-data from the RSS feed into their system. The SyndicationFeed class supports both AttributeExtensions & ElementExtensions to add custom tags to the RSS feeds. Once you have created your feed, you can use the Feed Validator tool to make sure it is up to spec.  Or you can use iTunes: Launch iTunes. In the Advanced menu, select Subscribe to Podcast. Enter your feed URL in the text box and click OK. After you've verified your feed is solid & good to go, you can submit it to iTunes.  Launch iTunes. In the left navigation column, click on iTunes Store to open the store. Once the store loads, click on Podcasts along the top navigation bar to go to the Podcasts page. In the right column of the Podcasts page, click on the Submit a Podcast link. Follow the instructions on the Submit a Podcast page. Here are the full instructions.  Once they have approved your podcast, it will be available within iTunes. RIM has also gotten into the podcasting business...which is great for BlackBerry users.  They accept the same enhanced-RSS feed that iTunes uses, so just create an account with them & submit the feed's URL.  It goes through a similar approval process to iTunes.  BlackBerry users must be on BlackBerry 6 OS or download the Podcast App from App World.   • Open-source and client-side IRC-Client

    I'm administrating a homepage with an IRC-Webclient. At the moment, it uses a Java-client, modified to be SSL-compatible and compatible with whatever design I want to use. The usual PJIRC thing, with users wishes and concerns implemented (I'll give you SSL-PJIRC if you want - no problem. The login-script will be improved for IE6-support this weekend, means write the object tag if an old IE is found, that's it. Rest runs perfectly well). But still, the better user experience would be a client that only requires the user to enable JavaScript. So, before I go into rewriting and customizing a complete Java-IRC-solution, I'd like to ask some other people - after researching for half a year of time. The requirements are: a) Free hosting, no cgi-bin is acceptable. A lot of hosters also have CGI supported, but it doesn't allow IRC-access. So, seems you are limited to x10-hosting for CGI:IRC. b) Solution must be open source (not free as in free beer, but free as in free speech - I want to be able to read every line of the code). c) Hosting cannot be limited to Windows-hosting. Free operation systems (anything with Linux, BSD, whatever - I think you get what I mean) must be possible. d) No server-side technology. I'm limited to everything that runs client-side only. (Well, a Java-Applet does...). d) Solution must support SSL. e) The side must be able to move. Means, you register to a new free hoster, load your things up via FileZilla and the thing simply runs. No server-concerning implementations needed. f) Old browsers must be supported. From all my research, there are two ways a) Java-Applet b) Use HTML5-Websockets (it is impossible to use the JavaScript-library I found, as it depends on ActiveX - means, Windows hosting). b) means "you are going to enter very unstable content". I worked with HTML5 for month, and, well ... Though, HTML5 also is not suitable for older browsers (old browser support is an absolutely necessary requirement). PHP by the way is a server side solution ... so no line of PHP. My idea now was a Java Applet, and a fallback which again is embedded and proprietary, but only requieres JavaScript (wsirc or Mibbit are great here, whilst I prefer wsirc ... and zooming fonts that are plainly to small, but worse, cannot read the code). So my question is - with free hosting, not installation on server, plain upload - do you see and open source, complelety client-side, ssl-compatible way to use or write a client? This wouldn't be my first programming project, I'm not afraid of the code. If there was a way and I had to write it, even from scratch, I'd do. From all I know, there sadly is none. If there is a portion of the beginning or end of the video that you wish to cut out of the MP3, select the “Cut video” check box and choose a Start and End time. Click “OK” when finished. Note: The start and end time represent the audio portion of the MP3 you wish to keep. All portions before and after these times will be cut.   The conversion process will begin and should only take a few moments. Times will vary depending on the size of the video you’re converting. Conversion was successful! The MP3 you converted will be in the same directory you downloaded the video to. Now you’re ready to listen to your MP3 or import it to your Zune, iTunes, or music library. You may also want to delete the MP4 files after the conversion if you will no longer need them. Conclusion YouTube Downloader features a very simple interface that’s user friendly and easy to use. It comes in handy when you watch videos that look horrible, but the sound quality is good. Or if you just need to hear the audio of something posted and don’t need the video.
