  • How to install clonezilla on Ubuntu 9.10?

    I installed latest Ubuntu on a flash drive. Was ready to install clonezilla with apt-get install clonezilla but that's not the way to do it? I prefer a physical install to a live one because I then have a chance to load specialized ntfs drivers for instance, should there be a need. How can I do this? Thank you!

  • Installing SilverStripe on 000webhost.com (Free web host)?

    Hi I'm trying to learn how to work Silverstripe so I extracted the tar file to my free hosting account. I then went on install.php and edited the permissions to meet the requirements set out in install.php but I still get two warnings from the 'webserver configuration' section: I can't tell what webserver you are running. Without Apache I can't tell if mod_rewrite is enabled. I can't tell whether mod_rewrite is running. You may need to configure a rewriting rule yourself. I looked in phpinfo() and mod_rewrite appears to be installed. I contacted the web host and they said it was to do with virtual directory paths, and I should add 'RewriteBase /' to the top of my .htaccess file in the public_html directory. However I did this and still had the same problem. The install.php script says that I can install it even with these warnings but when I press 'install' it brings me to a page with the following errors: Friendly URLs are not working. This is most likely because mod_rewrite isn't configuredcorrectly on your site. Please check the following things in your Apache configuration; you may need to get your web host or server administrator to do this for you: * mod_rewrite is enabled * AllowOverride All is set for your directory I also get this error message from the server: Warning: unlink(mysite/_config.php) [function.unlink]: Permission denied in /home/a2716553/public_html/install.php on line 701 000webhost.com says they have successfully installed Silverstripe on their user accounts without much configuration but I can't seem to find out how.

    I just went to the vmware website because I want to try workstation over virtualbox. I signed up for a workstation trial and clicked download on the 64bit linux version. What downloaded is a 320 megabyte txt file VMware-Workstation-Full-8.0.2-591240.x86_64.txt What gives? Is anyone familiar with this pattern of delivering software? How do I run it?   • Options for installing software on Amazon EC2 Windows instances

    I've been running Linux servers on Amazon EC2 for a while now; the experience has been great. I've recently needed to bring up a Windows server to run some Windows-only software that our product needs to use, and am running into a problem figuring out how to install the software, which is only available on DVD. With Linux I can just install packages from a Web-based repository and take advantage of EC2's fast network throughput, but so far on the Windows instance I've had to upload my ISO images to EC2 and mount them from the Windows EC2 instance. For some reason I'm getting really slow upload speeds to EC2, even though the regular upload speed from our office is pretty good (around 7Mbps). I've also tried mounting the DVD drive on my machine as a local drive on the EC2 instance via Remote Desktop, and then running the software install from the local drive, but I run into the same slow upload speed issue. Does anyone have a better way to install software from physical media onto an EC2 instance ?

    Last week my windows 7 operating system crashed. So I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on the partition Windows 7 was previously on. I have two Partitions, C: and D:. In partition D: I have very important data and I can't format it (I can't backup because it's very heavy ~50 GB). Now I want to install Windows 8. I have downloaded the ISO file of Windows 8 Pro. I don't have a DVD writer or a USB device to Install this. I need to install this on C: partition (the partition on which I have already installed Ubuntu) and I need to protect the data in partition D:. How do I do this?

    Original question: I'm having trouble installing the PHP Pecl Intl extension on my CentOs 5 machine. After installing both icu and libicu with the following commands: $ yum install icu $ yum install libicu I tried to install the Intl extension like so: $ /usr/bin/pecl install intl I selected to search for the default location for the ICU libraries and header files. It ends up crashing like this: checking whether to enable internationalization support... yes, shared checking for icu-config... no checking for location of ICU headers and libraries... not found configure: error: Unable to detect ICU prefix or no failed. Please verify ICU install prefix and make sure icu-config works. ERROR: `/tmp/pear/temp/intl/configure --with-icu-dir=DEFAULT' failed update After successfully installing the development version of icu as suggested by RusAlex (thanks RusAlex) like so: $ yum install libicu-devel I ran into a new problem which I also encountered locally the following command: $ /usr/bin/pecl install intl now produces this error: /private/tmp/pear/temp/intl/collator/collator_class.c:92: error: duplicate 'static' /private/tmp/pear/temp/intl/collator/collator_class.c:96: error: duplicate 'static' /private/tmp/pear/temp/intl/collator/collator_class.c:101: error: duplicate 'static' /private/tmp/pear/temp/intl/collator/collator_class.c:107: error: duplicate 'static' make: *** [collator/collator_class.lo] Error 1 ERROR: `make' failed It appears to have something to do with PHP 5.3 being bundled with Intl already.     I need at least Java 1.6 to run a program that someone else in my lab wrote On the Java website it tells me to update Java via apple's software update function, i've run this a few times but it only got up to Java 1.5.0_24 and it now says no more updates are available for my computer Is there another way to update Java on a Mac? Is my operating system maybe to old for Java 1.6? i'm not sure what i'm running exactly, and i can't find a list of what mac operating systems run what versions of Java because the java site just suggests using Mac's software update.

  • Please help, I am losing my data?

    I was trying to remove MSDN Library-January 2002 by using Revo Uninstaller. I allowed it to delelet those leftover registry entries(my fault, i should be more careful and don't do that). Now my machine is almost unaccessible, cannot open that Revo Uninstaller to recovery, cannot open Windows Explorer, cannot run CMD command from run, all executable shortcuts are not work anymore. I guess I have to reinstall everything but how can I get my data out of the machine? It is a Dell laptop with Windows XP. I am afraid if I restart my machine, my machine will not come back anymore. Please help.

    I tried to configure ./configure --prefix=/localfolder glib-2.26.1/ make make install but it fails at make stage. trying to configure mc-4.6.1/ and make doesn't obviously work. What are the steps I need to make in order to install midnight comander for my local user in a custom folder?   • HP Pavillion DV6500 recovery disk failure

    I recently attempted to re-install Windows Vista on an HP Pavillion DV6500 using the factory recovery DVD's, but encountered a strange problem. When the recovery disk attempted to reformat the hard disk, it failed at 22%. The error message provided was not very informative, just the error code "0x400110020000 1005". A google search turned up some people with a similar problem who asserted that HP has been know to ship corrupted recovery DVDs. The recovery disk did manage to reformat the the recovery partition before failing though, so recovering from the partition is no longer an option. It would be possible to reinstall from an off-the-shelf retail copy of Vista and then pull the drivers from HP's website, but I don't have access to a copy of Vista, and it would really be outrageous to have to purchase a new OS when I have a perfectly valid license already. Thought about biting the bullet and upgrading to Windows 7, but my understanding is that without Vista installed I'd be unable to use the upgrade version, and be forced to purchase the more expensive non-upgrade retail copy (!). Can anyone suggest a possible solution to this Catch-22? I've run out of ideas.

  • Is there any reason to install software as root as opposed to sudo installing software as a sudoer?

    I'm setting up a new server running Ubuntu Server Edition, and I'm not certain what the difference would be between installing most of the basic software as root, vs installing the basic software as an admin user using sudo apt-get install . For one thing, I'm not sure whether after installing the software as root, I'll need sudo access when running the software as a user (e.g. if I install git as root). On the other hand, if I install software as a user, I could conceive of it not being available to other users that I create in the future. What's the best practice here?
