• Flash alternative for iBook Mac?

  I have a old Apple iBook G4 that I decided to hook up to my main TV. I like the setup because I can surf the internet on my TV now. The only thing that I can't seem to do is watch Flash videos. Apparently Flash Player 10 doesn't play nice with the iBook's graphics card's GPU, leaving all the graphics processing to the CPU which is a disaster. Others suggested downgrading to Flash Player 9, I did that, and youtube worked fine, but Hulu (The main reason I wanted to hook it up to the TV in the first place) did not. Anyone know of a Flash alternative or a Flash 10 fix for the iBook? Or even a Hulu client that doesn't require Flash. • Secondary IP (eth0:0) acts like main server IP

  I have a CentOS server, configured with 4 consecutive IPs: eth0 5.x.x.251 eth0:0 5.x.x.252 eth0:1 5.x.x.253 eth0:2 5.x.x.254 The problem is that all traffic goes out to the internet with eth0:0 (5.x.x.252) as the source IP, instead of eth0. # curl ifconfig.me 5.x.x.252 How can I fix this, so that all traffic goes out via eth0, ie my main IP? • Asus n61Ja notebook bios update

  I wanted to update the bios, with an official bios update, from version 207 to 211. I didn't use winflash, I used easyflash in the bios. Everything seemed to be going okay; it deleted the old files, wrote the new ones, verified the new ones. Then it said: shutdown in/after 2 seconds and it shut down. Then nothing happened anymore. Power button completely unresponsive. The battery light was still on, and I'm not sure if I should've just waited... I didn't though, I thought I had to remove the battery, take the power off completely to be able to start it up again. So I'm wondering: what are my options here? My warranty expired and I don't really have the money to send it in and pay hundreds of bucks on repairs. Is there anything I can try? CMOS battery reset? Anything??? Please help me out! I would be very grateful :) ps. What was sort of odd btw, was that easyflash said something like that it was an unsigned bios and if I wanted to flash it anymore, if i wanted to 'force' it or something. It was with 100% certainty the correct update from the Asus.com support site, so I didn't take that 'warning' seriously.

• Installing FIREFOX with extensions/addons manually? (not really auto install)

  I've been reading around with regards to creating firefox installers, bundling it w/ addons, using scripts, and CLI lines and a whole bunch of stuffs ... but it seems that going through this route is just too complicated and time consuming.. Since i don't mind a bit of manually copying files and stuff, I was planning to do the following: on my test machine, 1) install firefox on a machine AND configure it the way i want it 2) install addons AND set the configurations for it 3) set advanced configurations for firefox (about:config) Then once i'm all set, I just simply copy the contents of the firefox/profiles folder (for this particular tests it's ....\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\6m0mef0s.default for deployment, all i have to do is: 1) Install the same version (offline installer) of the Firefox i used.. 2) overwrite the contents of the new profiles folder (randomly named by Firefox installer as usual) .. This should set all my configs and addons right? or what other folders do i have to backup and copy manually into the new profiles folder? I don't think i need to tinker w/ any registries right? anyway, if this works, though it's a bit manual, it's a whole lot simplier, and straight forward than fiddling w/ Installers and Packages etc.. PS I do this a lot w/ other simple (and some complex) software that i use and they seem to work fine for years.. i'm just not sure with firefox and how it's structured..

• NAT cause huge External (actually internal) bandwidth usage

  We have 4 servers running in a data center, with internal IP: 192.168.3.* assigned. A hardware (FORTIGATE) firewall configured NAT, and it will lead the traffic as: external IP: 111.222.333.10 -> 192.168.3.10 www.server1.com 111.222.333.11 -> 192.168.3.11 www.server2.com 111.222.333.12 -> 192.168.3.12 www.server3.com In DNS, we have www.server1.com A 111.222.333.10 Now if I send a lot of data to www.server1.com from www.server2.com, the data will be send through 111.222.333.10 (external IP) and this cause our bandwidth usage huge (expensive!). The work around I have is to add a local host mapping to server2: 192.168.3.10 www.server1.com. That way when send files from server2 to www.server1.com, it will be internal. However, we are having more and more servers, it would be hard to manually add mapping to every server. Just wondering do we have another solution for this? Can we do something in the FORTIGATE firewall? ps. The DNS server being used is public, such as opendns, Google dns etc.

'Cause router does not support different routes for different WAN interfaces I put them in "Static routes". But when I try to save them I've got an error: Destination IP address can not be set in a same subnet with the WAN or LAN IP address. If I change IP's to local like 192.168.x.x router tell me: Gateway must be set in a same subnet with WAN or LAN IP address. Changing mask on WAN1 interface to 255.255.0.0 doesn't help. Any ideas? PS! Or maybe I'm must email to TP-Link support?

In my windowsXP guest I tried to connect to the FTP server on my host machine(which used to work well) but it didn't work. I tried to ping my host machine, but it didn't work either. • Linux Mint reset display resolution from console

  I have a Linux Mint 13 Xfce in a VMware Workstation 8 VM and set the resolution from 800x600 to 1280x768 and now I get permanently logged out when I try to login. I knew how to get back to my old resolution back in the xorg.conf days but Linux Mint now uses xrandr which won't display any displays when running # xrandr because X is not running (of course not - I can't login over GUI). I know that there are configuration files in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ because I configured a debian based thinclient's resolution in a file called /etc/X11/Xsession.d/91configure_display but that file doesn't exist in my Linux Mint VM. So, how do I reset my X screen resolution from console? Edit: I forgot to tell you that I can't change resolution in console: # xrandr -s 800x600 Can't open display This message appears every time I use xrandr or xrandr -s *resolution* Update: I tried what bWowk suggested: # export DISPLAY=:0.0 # xrandr -s 800x600 No protocol specified No protocol specified Can't open display :0.0 So, that doesn't work either. Isn't there a configuration file that is executed every time X starts? X is running btw - ps aux | grep X shows one process /usr/bin/X running.

• WTH? Upgrading Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 Problem: No Internet Connection?

  Earlier today I tried upgrading my Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Kaola from the update manager. (FYI: all 9.10 updates were applied prior to this) Everything was going well downloading until I got an error dialog informing me that some software packages weren't downloaded because of an Internet connection. Would say it was halfway thru. Anyway, Was told that the software packages that it did download, however, would kept and I figure it's not a big deal. Just run it again. But first ran Firefox to verify my connection as I haven't had any connection problems. But my internet connection was/is fine as evident by this posting. With that cleared, I ran the update manager again, clicked on "Upgrade" and this time I received "Could not download the release notes. Please check your internet connection" huh? This is my first time dealing w/ Ubuntu and my first upgrade so I am hoping someone can help. Not sure what the problem can be. I am can surf the web w/ no problems. Please help. PS: There was no installing at any point. Just downloading. PSS: The software it managed to download the first time around is now visible in the update manager but don't think I should install as I see in the compiz description it's for v1:0.8-4-0ubuntu2 I figure it's designed for 10.04 and might ruin things further if I install

• Upgrading memory on an IBM Power 710 Express (8231-E2B)

  We have a Power 710 Express server that was loaded with 4x4 GB memory on a single riser card. I have replaced the 4 chips with 4x8GB and put in another riser card and loaded it with 4x8GB more for a total of 64GB memory. The firmware is AL730_078. When i power it on, the service processor boots up and i can access the ASMi. From here I can look at "Memory Serial Presence Data" and see that the system in some way detects 8x8 GB. However when i look at Hardware Deconfiguration and specifically Memory Deconfiguration, it is still listed with old values, 16384MB, and claims there are 4x4 chips in the C17 riser. How do i proceed to make the server recognize properly the amount of memory installed? I get a FSPSP04 and B181B50F progress code on booting because (i think) it hasn't been told the memory has changed. It then does not proceed to booting the operating system (VIOS) when turned on. Are there any steps I have overlooked here? Can I do some commands, either on the service processor, or otherwise, to tell the system to configure with the proper amount of memory? PS: This is a stand alone server, not configured with HMC or SDMC.

• compile kernel 2.6.34 for Ubuntu Lucid for xen dom0 / pvops

  Hi there, I'd like to compile a recent Linux kernel (2.6.34) for my Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx AMD64 box, mainly because I'd like to use it as a dom0 kernel with the recent xen4. There's plenty documentation on the web about how to compile a kernel 'Debian style'. But what I think would be nice to start with an 'official' Ubuntu config to be sure not to miss any important things and having to recompile over and over again. So what I'd like to do is compile 2.6.34, but starting with the 'official' /boot/config-2.6.32-XX from Ubuntu Lucid. The question is: How do I best do that? If I just take the config from 2.6.32, the new features from 2.6.33/34 won't be in the config. So what I'd like to do is somehow the 2.6.34 config with the original 2.6.32 one from Ubuntu. How can I best do that? Does it even make sense? Is there easier ways to achieve what I want? Thanks for your insight! A. PS: I just found a linux-image-2.6.32-bpo.4-xen-amd64 package on backports.org, but no information about it. Would it work as a dom0 kernel on Lucid?

  I'm using wkhtmltopdf to convert HTML web pages to PDFs. This works perfectly on my 32-bit dev server [unfortunately, I can't ship my machine :-p ].   I run an Ubuntu test server, and my deployment system is also Ubuntu. I've recently been trying to get ASP.NET to work on my test server so that we can take it live. I managed to get it installed, and configured properly, and my application is installed and running, but I can't get anything to work. • Is it possible to use XP visual styles (*.msstyles) or Windows Blinds in a thinapp portable applicat

  It's been a while since I made a portable (Office 2007) Thinapp application, and since then I've uninstalled VMWare from my machine to free up space, so I'd like to know if someone already knows the answer to this before I set up everything again to try it. I'm thinking of installing a visual style (*.msstyles, for XP) along with the application to thinapp before post-setup capture. Failing that, maybe I'll try with visual mods such as Windows Blinds. The purpose is to be able to run a portable application with a specific visual style. So my question is: Is it possible? (I believe it somehow is, since VirtualBox does something similar to XP Mode) If it is, will it work on a computer with the "classic" Windows style? If it's not, will it work with another virtualization software? (Xenocode?) If it's not possible with *.msstyles, will it work with visual mods such as Windows Blinds? Thanks for any input! • Hyperic HQ- Monitor process statistics for 50+ processes on Linux machine

  Is there an easy way to get metrics on all processes that start with the letters XYZ? I have about 80 processes that I have to monitor individually that all start with the prefix XYZ. I have created a query using the sigar shell: ps State.Name.sw=XYZ, which will give me a list of the processes that I want. What I need to do is define this list of processes through said query and collect and track statistics from the Process service: http://support.hyperic.com/display/hypcomm/Process+service What I need is 3 or 4 key statistics for each of the XYZ processes defined by my query to show up as graphs in the web front end. Note: Hyperic HQ server is installed on a windows machine and I'm monitoring a Linux box via an agent. • Moving symlinks into a folder based on id3 tags.

  I'm trying to get my music folder into something sensible. Right now, I have all my music stored in /home/foo so I have all of the albums soft linked to ~/music. I want the structure to be ~/music/<artist>/<album> I've got all of the symlinks into ~/music right now so I just need to get the symlinks into the proper structure. I'm trying to do this by delving into the symlinked album, getting the artist name with id3info. I can do this, but I can't seem to get it to work correctly. for i in $( find -L $i -name "*.mp3" -printf "%h\n") do echo "$i" #testing purposes #find its artist #the stuff after read file just cuts up id3info to get just the artist name #$artist = find -L $i -name "*.mp3" | read file; id3info $file | grep TPE | sed "s|.*: \(.*\)|\1|"|head -n1 #move it to correct artist folder #mv "$i" "$artist" done Now, it does find the correct folder, but every time there is a space in the dir name it makes it a newline. DJ Exortius already exists, so it's just a matter of moving it into the correct directory that's based on the id3 tag of the mp3 inside. Thanks!   Hi all, I've got a weird problem, (like always :p ) Okay: Situation: Windows 2003 domain with XP clients. With a GPO I'm running a VBS script on login to map a few drives. This works great on XP, but not on Vista. If I manually run the script after the user has logged on, it works. So I know the script works on Vista, it just doesn't run via the GPO. The user has admin privileges. I also have the same problem on Windows 7 RC1. So it must be related. • Upgrading Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 Problem: No Internet Connection?

  Earlier today I tried upgrading my Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Kaola from the update manager. (FYI: all 9.10 updates were applied prior to this) Everything was going well downloading until I got an error dialog informing me that some software packages weren't downloaded because of an Internet connection. Would say it was halfway thru. Anyway, Was told that the software packages that it did download, however, would kept and I figure it's not a big deal. Just run it again. But first ran Firefox to verify my connection as I haven't had any connection problems. But my internet connection was/is fine as evident by this posting. With that cleared, I ran the update manager again, clicked on "Upgrade" and this time I received "Could not download the release notes. Please check your internet connection" This is my first time dealing with Ubuntu and my first upgrade so I am hoping someone can help. Not sure what the problem can be. I can surf the web with no problems. PS: There was no installing at any point. Just downloading. PSS: The software it managed to download the first time around is now visible in the update manager but don't think I should install as I see in the compiz description it's for v1:0.8-4-0ubuntu2 I figure it's designed for 10.04 and might ruin things further if I install.

• Poor Write Performance in VM inside Proxmox PVE 2.0

  I am running a PVE 2.0 on a decent Hardware (2 SATA HDDs as RAID1, 12GB RAM, i7 CPU) but the I/O Performance is very poor inside the VM (Ubuntu 11.10 Server). • windows cant "see" camera

  So I bought a lil emerson camera and I am trying to get it to read the thing on windows 7. The instructions for the camer say when you first hook it up via usb AUTOPLAY will come up and your good to go. Well that worked for me the first time I hooked it up. However the 2nd time, it started trying to install drivers. Since then I can't get it to show up in windows explorer. I have tried disabling and uninstalling everything and trying to start from scratch but its useless, I'm stuck with having to pull the sd card everytime. I really dont like doing this as its a cheap camera, so if I can fix the communication between the devices via usb I would be really happy. As of right now the device installation shows a checked USB COMPOSITE DEVICE and 3 X'd GENERIC IMAGE DEVIC. Can someone please help me get this sorted. PS there are no drivers for this camera, not in the packaging, not available from emerson, and to be honest it shouldn't need any. The only function the camera has when hooked up via USB is charging and access to the DCIM. The charging still works, but the drive just won't load. Any suggestions?

• /etc/crontab or any user crontab is not being executed

  My server is CentOS 5. When I edit /etc/crontab or edit any user(including root) crontab via "crontab -e" command, it just adds "(system) RELOAD (/etc/crontab)" or "(admin) RELOAD (cron/admin)" in the log. No CMD in the /var/log/cron. • Linking to network shares from Sharepoint pages

  So the place I work decided to set up a Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 server for task management and I (as the lowly entry-level intern) have been tasked with "figuring it out." One thing that the end users really, really, really, want is the ability to link to network shares (that are readable by anyone who will be using sharepoint) from a Sharepoint web page. In order to do this, I have edited the HTML manually with several lines that look like the following: <a href="file://server/share">Server Share</a> This works (sometimes) but the link reported by Sharepoint is often wrong and editing pages that contain these links will mangle the code such that when I open it, the code no longer looks like what it did when I last hit save (breaking all those links). Obviously this is not sustainable. I've been told by coworkers that "It worked that way at the last place I worked" but I haven't found out how yet. Any ideas on how this would work or am I barking up the wrong tree? None of the knowledge searches I've done shed any light on the sitataion. Thanks for any help! -Russell P.S. It should be noted that the file option in an href tag ONLY works in IE (which is a real bummer since we mostly use Firefox).

• Zabbix Proxy not collecting data

  Hi All I have a working Zabbix 1.8.2 server collecting data for our office and our colo facility. However the link between the colo and office is flaky. What I'm trying to do is setup a proxy on the colo side to have a 1 hour cache and relay the data to our primary server at the office. Our zabbix server is compiled from source and uses a mysql database I've followed the instructions found in the zabbix documentation to compile the proxy using a sqlite3 database. I add the proxy to zabbix under Administration-DM-Proxies. The zabbix server "sees" the proxy because the "last seen" field is always under 60s. However when I assign a colo host to the proxy I stop receiving data from it. The colo host's zabbix_agentd.log file says this: 29343:20100622:124847 Timeout while answering request 29343:20100622:124847 Getting list of active checks failed. Will retry after 60 seconds The zabbix_proxy.log says this. 2041:20100622:123131.760 Deleted 0 records from history [0.000994 seconds] 2028:20100622:124131.671 Error while receiving answer from server [ZBX_TCP_READ() failed I also am unable to receive any SNMP data which is more important to me than the zabbix agent data. Has anyone had this problem before? Zabbix Server OS: CentOS5.4 Zabbix Server Build: 1.8.2 from source Zabbix Proxy OS: CentOS5.4 Zabbix Proxy Build: 1.8.2 from source P.S. The SQLite database on the zabbix proxy never gets any data written to it, it is identical to when I created it from the blank schema in zabbix-1.8.2/create/schema. • Python coding with VLC player (quite a basic query I expect)

  I'm fairly new to the whole coding realm so my knowledge is fairly limited, and I can't seem to find any basic tutorials on how to use scripts with VLC player. More specifically, the reason I'm asking here is because I stumbled across a post on this site about playing random clips from random videos on VLC player automatically. This is the forum post: Playback random section from multiple videos changing every 5 minutes My situation is similar to this lovely gentleman's was, though he clearly knows a lot more about coding than I do. In short, I'd like to copy this coding into a file of some sort and apply it to VLC player myself. Only I'm not sure what file type I'd have to save it as (I have Python by the way, and I tried saving it as a .py file but I didn't know if it was correct or where to go from there). Additionally, I'm not sure how to get VLC to "read" the script, so to speak - is there a specific location the file needs to be, and do I run the script from another program or through VLC? I'll reiterate that I'm relatively new to this, so if anybody would be so kind as to post a quick list of steps on how to save/place the file and use it with VLC player I really would appreciate it! P.S. I'm not computer illiterate, I'm fine with most programs and I'd understand if you just said things like "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\plugins" or "in VLC, select Tools Plugins and extensions", I just wouldn't catch on to anything about adding a line of coding that does something without being told exactly what to write!
