• How to add Transactions with a DataSet created using the Add Connection Wizard?

  I have a DataSet that I have added to my project where I can Insert and Add records using the Add Query function in Visual Studio 2010, however I want to add transactions to this, I have found a few examples but cannot seem to find one that works with these. I know I need to use the SQLClient.SQLTransaction Class somehow. I used the Add New Data Source Wizard and added the Tables/View/Functions I need, I just need an example using this process such as How to get the DataConnection my DataSet has used. Assuming all options have been set in the wizard and I am only using the pre-defined adapters and options asked for in this wizard, how to I add the Transaction logic to my Database. For example I have a DataSet called ProductDataSet with the XSD created for this, I have then added my Stock table as a Datasource and Added an AddStock method with a wizard, this also if a new item calls an AddItem method, if either of these fails I want to rollback the AddItem and AddStock in this case.

Is there a way to loop through all textboxes in FormCollection without to check which ones have values in them? I am a student in the college and this project is part of my summer experience program.   I currently have a log object I'd like to remove objects from, based on a LINQ query. I would like to remove all records in the log if the sum of the versions within a program are greater than 60. Currently I'm pretty confident that this'll work, but it seems kludgy: for (int index = 0; index < 4; index++) { Log.RemoveAll(log => (log.Program[index].Version[0].Value + log.Program[index].Version[1].Value + log.Program[index].Version[2].Value ) > 60); } The Program is an array of 4 values and version has an array of 3 values. Is there a more simple way to do this RemoveAll in LINQ without using the for loop? Thanks for any help in advance!

This J2SE application has 6 infinitely running user threads,which will be polling for some specific records in backend DB. When this java pid is killed, I need to perform some cleanup operations for each of the long running thread, like connecting to DB and set status of some transactions which are in-progress to empty. I've come up with the following SELECT: SELECT * FROM (SELECT user, score, time FROM tests_score ORDER BY user, score DESC, time DESC) t1 GROUP BY user ORDER BY score DESC, time LIMIT 10 It works fine but I'm not quite sure if my use of ORDER BY is the right way to pick the first row of each group of sorted records. Is there any better practice to achieve the same result? (I use MySQL 5)

  I am setting up a site using PHP and MySQL that is essentially just a web front-end to an existing database. Understandably my client is very keen to prevent anyone from being able to make a copy of the data in the database yet at the same time wants everything publicly available and even a "view all" link to display every record in the db. Whilst I have put everything in place to prevent attacks such as SQL injection attacks, there is nothing to prevent anyone from viewing all the records as html and running some sort of script to parse this data back into another database. Even if I was to remove the "view all" link, someone could still, in theory, use an automated process to go through each record one by one and compile these into a new database, essentially pinching all the information. Does anyone have any good tactics for preventing or even just dettering this that they could share. Thanks

• LINQ expression precedence with Skip(), Take() and OrderBy()

  I'm using LINQ to Entities and display paged results. But I'm having issues with the combination of Skip(), Take() and OrderBy() calls. Everything works fine, except that OrderBy() is assigned too late. It's executed after result set has been cut down by Skip() and Take(). So each page of results has items in order. But ordering is done on a page handful of data instead of ordering of the whole set and then limiting those records with Skip() and Take(). How do I set precedence with these statements? • XSLT: How to escape square brackets in Urls

  I have a set of records from Solr where field[@name='url'] can have the following format: http://url/blabla/blabla.aspx?sv=[keyword%20keyword,%201] My understanding is that the square brackets denote an array syntax and I would like to use XSLT to remove the square brackets from all Urls. The reason for this is that I am using an Open URL resolver, which does not currently handle well those characters. The best option would be to strip the square brackets from all URLs before such resources are mediated by the Open URL resolver.   A friend and I were debating about whether he should use MySQL or a flatfile database for his website's backend. I told him to go with MySQL because it was structured, held records well, and was consistent. He on the other hand said that he would rather go for speed. Reading files is a lot quicker than connecting to MySQL and it made me wonder whether he was right. For example, why not just create a folder for each table, like so: users/ groups/ posts/, within the folders have the files named by ID (1, 2, 3) and then for the data use a format like so: username: John\npassword: e2fc714c4727ee9395f324cd2e7f331f\nemail: [email protected]? In other words, what are the advantages of MySQL over flatfiles?

• CakePHP: How do I order results based on a 2-level deep association model?

  I'm hoping I won't need to resort to custom queries. A related question would be: how do I retrieve data so that if an associated model is empty, no record is retrieved at all, as opposed to an empty array for an associated model? As an oversimplified example, say I have the following models: City -- Street -- House How do I sort City results by House numbers? How do I retrieve City restuls that have at least one House in it? I don't want a record with a city name and details and an empty House array as it messes up pagination results. CakePHP retrieves House records belonging to the Street in a separate query, so putting somthing like 'House.number DESC' into the 'order' field of the search query returns a 'field does not exist' error. Any ideas?

  Hi all, I have a scenario where I need to localized values of objects in my database. Let's say you have an application that can create animals, if the user is english the value of the "Name" property of an animal would be entered as "Cat" in the UI whereas it would be entered as "Chat" in french. The animal culture table would contain 2 records pointing to the same animal in the parent table. When reading values back, if the value of "Name" does not exist in the user culture the default value (value the object was originally created with) would be used. • WCF large message exception

  Hi, I have a web service which is returning data to the desktop application. The problem I am having is, when the web service returns small volume of data everything works fine but when the volume of data is large it throws the following exception: System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. Can it be because it is taking a good 4-5 seconds to fetch all the records from the database and the session times out or something? Also, when I am debugging the web service, I see that this particular method is called twice and it is also returning the correct value both times, but for some reason the desktop application seems to be throwing the aforementioned exception. I found similar posts before on stackoverflow but they did not solve my problem. Can anybody please tell me what's going on in here? Thanks!

For example, when function is called with these arguments; dyn_query(list, person, [name, age], ["jack", 21]) I want to query MNesia to list items whose name is "jack" and age is 21 in person table. I've tried to implement this by using qlc:q(ListComprehension) and qlc:string_to_handle("ListComprehension"). First failed because of compile errors, compiler didn't let me to use functions instead of ListComprehentions and variables instead of record names like "Item#Table.Member". Second failed, because erl_eval couldn't handle records and throwed exceptions like {undefined_record, person}. Which method should I use? How could i solve these problems?
