  • OpenSolaris Dead / Alive?

    - by Walter White
Hi all, I have used Open Solaris in the past and really liked it, minus the lack of support for a few applications I use such as UFraw, Hugin, and wacom. I can compile from source, but where is the fun in that. It seems the release dates for the next Open Solaris keep getting pushed back and the release that was scheduled to happen quietly got pulled from their site. So, they're no longer saying development for 10.03 has already begun because it has come and gone and there is no release. Walter

  • Wacom consumer tablet driver service may crash while opening Bamboo Preferences, often after resuming computer from sleep

    - by DragonLord
One of the ExpressKeys on my Wacom Bamboo Capture graphics tablet is mapped to Bamboo Preferences, so that I can quickly access the tablet settings and view the battery level (I have the Wireless Accessory Kit installed). However, when I connect the tablet to the computer, in wired or wireless mode, and attempt to open Bamboo Preferences, the Wacom consumer tablet driver service may crash, most often when I try to do so after resuming the computer from sleep. There is usually no direct indication of the crash (although I once did get Tablet Service for consumer driver stopped working and was closed), only that the cursor shows that the system is busy for a split second. When this happens, the pen no longer tracks on the screen when in proximity of the tablet (even though it is detected by the tablet itself); however, touch continues to function correctly. To recover from this condition, I need to restart the tablet driver services. I got tired of having to go through Task Manager to restart the service every time this happens, so I ended up writing the following command script, with a shortcut on the desktop for running it with elevated privileges: net stop TabletServicePen net start TabletServicePen net stop TouchServicePen net start TouchServicePen Is there something I can do to prevent these crashes from happening in the first place, or do I have have to deal with this issue until the driver is updated? • Squid refresh_pattern won't cache "Expires: ..."

    - by Marcelo Cantos
Background I frequent the OpenGL ES documentation site at http://www.khronos.org/opengles/sdk/1.1/docs/man/. Even though the content is completely static, it seems to force a reload on every single page I visit, which is very annoying. I have a squid 3.0 proxy set up (apt-get install squid3 on Ubuntu 10.04), and I added a refresh_pattern to force the pages to cache: refresh_pattern ^http://www.khronos.org/opengles/sdk/1\.1/docs/man/ … 1440 20% 10080 … override-expire ignore-reload ignore-no-cache ignore-private ignore-no-store This is all on one line, of course. While this appears to work for the XHTML documents (e.g., glBindTexture), it fails to cache the linked content, such as the DTD, some .ent files (?) and some XSL files. The delay in fetching these extra files delays rendering of the main document, so my principal annoyance isn't fixed. The only difference I can glean with these ancillary files is that they come with an Expires: header set to the current time, whereas the XHTML document has none. But I would have expected the override-expire option to fix this. I have confirmed that documents have the same base URL. I have also truncated the pattern to varying degrees, with no effect. My questions Why does the override-expire option not seem to work? Is there a simple way to tell squid to unconditionally cache a document, no matter what it finds in the response headers? • mrepo and grouplist/groupinstall?, mrepo not working as expected with group

    - by user52874
All, I'm trying to set up mrepo so we can have internal repositories. After quite the slog, things seem to be working as expected EXCEPT for groups. From man createrepo: EXAMPLES Here is an example of a repository with a groups file. Note that the groups file should be in the same directory as the rpm packages (i.e. /path/to/rpms/comps.xml). createrepo -g comps.xml /path/to/rpms So here's what I'm doing: wget -c http://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/6/x86_64/os/repodata/comps-sl6-x86_64.xml cp comps-sl6-x86_64.xml /var/mrepo/SL6-x86_64/os/Packages/comps-sl6-x86_64.xml createrepo -g comps-sl6-x86_64.xml /var/mrepo/SL6-x86_64/os/Packages/ lots of output, no apparent errors or warnings BUT.. from a client: yum grouplist Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit Setting up Group Process Error: No group data available for configured repositories Here's /etc/mrepo.conf: ### Configuration file for mrepo ### The [main] section allows to override mrepo's default settings ### The mrepo-example.conf gives an overview of all the possible settings [main] srcdir = /var/mrepo wwwdir = /var/www/mrepo confdir = /etc/mrepo.conf.d arch = x86_64 mailto = root@localhost smtp-server = localhost pxelinux = /usr/lib/syslinux/pxelinux.0 tftpdir = /tftpboot #rhnlogin = username:password ### Any other section is considered a definition for a distribution ### You can put distribution sections in /etc/mrepo.conf.d ### Examples can be found in the documentation. • "Upgrading" from OpenIndiana 151a to Solaris 11.1 using IPS

    - by syneticon-dj
I wonder if it would be possible to "upgrade" from an OpenIndiana install (151a) to the current Solaris release (11.1) using the IPS. What I have done so far: added the "solaris" publisher using pkg set-publisher -g http://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release/ solaris removed the "opensolaris.org" and "openindiana.org" publishers (just to make sure) tried to start the update process using pkg update --accept or explicitly setting the release name pkg image-update --accept --be-name Solaris_11 - both backed out stating there are "No updates available for this image".

Can anyone point out what I'm getting wrong?

  • Context menu on Intellj IDEA

    - by Otavio Macedo
I have installed Intellij IDEA 10 on Linux (Ubuntu 8.04) and the way the context menu works is annoying me. The context menu is visible as long as I keep the right button pressed (if I release the button, the menu disappears). To click on a menu item, I have to position the cursor upon the item with the right button pressed and then release it. I've also figured out two alternative ways to keep the menu visible with the right button released: To right-click, drag, and release the button outside the context menu. Ctrl + Right-click or Shift + Right-click But I would expect the "normal" behavior: that when I right-click and release, the menu keeps visible until the next click (on an item or outside the menu). Is there a way to change this behavior? Thanks in advance.

  • inews failed: "No colon-space in "X-MS-TNEF-Correlator:"

    - by wolfgangsz
We run a news server for our engineering teams, which is also linked to the code repositories (so that all engineers can subscribe to any changes in the repos or just the projects they are interested in). On quite a regular basis (several times a day) I (as the sysadmin for that server) receive bounces from innd with the above as the first line. The news server simply rejects these messages and the articles don't get posted. Here is an example: inews failed: inews: cannot send article to server: 441 437 No colon-space in "X-MS-TNEF-Correlator:" header inews: article not posted -------- Article Contents Path: aminocom.com!ctaylor From: [email protected] (Cameron Taylor) Newsgroups: amino.qa.reports Content-Language: en-US Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="_000_A2AB95742ADD524795C13EDE8F8CCD201A798C0Eukswaex01_" MIME-Version: 1.0 Subject: [QA REPORT] MDK 400 release 3.4.33 **PRE-RELEASE** Message-ID: Date: Thu, 9 Sep 2010 16:15:16 +0000 X-Received: from uk-swa-ex02.aminocom.com (uk-swa-ex02.aminocom.com [10.171.3.10]) by theoline.aminocom.com (8.14.3/8.13.8) with ESMTP id o89GF8tx019494 for ; Thu, 9 Sep 2010 17:15:08 +0100 X-Received: from uk-swa-ex01.aminocom.com ([10.171.3.9]) by uk-swa-ex02 ([10.171.3.10]) with mapi; Thu, 9 Sep 2010 17:15:18 +0100 X-To: QA Reports X-Thread-Topic: [QA REPORT] MDK 400 release 3.4.33 **PRE-RELEASE** X-Thread-Index: ActQOjBdms0CSJsORNSxRIMSZ4H3Ow== X-Accept-Language: en-US, en-GB X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: X-Auto-Response-Suppress: DR, OOF, AutoReply --_000_A2AB95742ADD524795C13EDE8F8CCD201A798C0Eukswaex01_ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable SQA Test Report [QA REPORT] MDK 400 release 3.4.33 **PRE-RELEASE** Status .... (rest of the message is not important) And yes, quite clearly this header doesn't have anything after the colon. The man page for innd doesn't specify why it rejects these messages, it just says it rejects them. So far I have found out these headers are linked to messages in RTF format (coming from Outlook clients), where normally the formatting information would be stored in a winmail.dat attachment. The clients all use MS Exchange 2010 servers to send their mail (identified above as uk-swa-ex02.aminocom.com) which forwards the message to the news server. Does anybody know what advice I need to give these users to avoid their articles getting bounced? Or can I change the behaviour of innd? Or do I need to filter these headers out before innd processes the articles?

  • Push, parse & import "selected" data, text, info blobs from Webpages/ Emails as Event/ Appointment to standard Calendar directly or as .ics file?

    - by Alex S
Any tool, plugin, extension, script/ code to push "selected" data, text, information blobs from Web pages, Emails etc, then parsed and imported to structured Event, Appointment (e.g. .ics) on a standard Calendar like Outlook, Google, iCal? If not, what and how could I use some scripting, coding or existing tools, extensions to add on top and do this. I come across a lot of unstructured information on Webpages, Emails, FB events etc. where I just want to add that information to my Calendar. Instead of entering all the information by hand all the time, there should be an easy enough way to have the information get parsed, organized and imported to a Calendar... Either directly to a calendar from source or Translated to a standard format such as .ICS that can be imported & saved easily. Would love to see some suggestions for this incorporating one or more of the following: on Windows with Chrome & Outlook on iPhone/ iPad to its Calendar PS: I'll come back and see if I can add more information to this question and to answer it as well. I have not found a solution yet.

  • Performance & Security Factors of Symbolic Links

    - by Stoosh
I am thinking about rolling out a very stripped down version of release management for some PHP apps I have running. Essentially the plan is to store each release in /home/release/1.x etc (exported from a tag in SVN) and then do a symlink to /live_folder and change the document root in the apache config. I don't have a problem with setting all this up (I've actually got it working at the moment), however I'm a developer with just basic knowledge of the server admin side of things. Is there anything I need to be aware of from a security or performance perspective when using this method of release management? Thanks

  • Lock manager stops responding (lockd/nfslock), but shows as running

    - by dwaynehoov
Essentially, lock manager stops responding (lockd/nfslock), but shows as running as a kernel process. If I bounce portmap and nfslock, it has no effect. Doesn't show up in the portmapper registered services rpcinfo -p .. doesn't show nlockmgr. it just shows portmapper and status If I manually remount the drives, it fixes the issue. I'm assuming that the service (lockd) goes stale or hangs when there is no NFS activity? It seems like issuing a mount for NFS volumes "awakens" it and things work once that happens. Please help me nail this down for point me to somewhere to get more information on what might be happening. • Problem releasing UIImageView after adding to UIScrollView

    - by Josiah Jordan
I'm having a memory problem related to UIImageView. After adding this view to my UIScrollView, if I try to release the UIImageView the application crashes. According to the stack trace, something is calling [UIImageView stopAnimating] after [UIImageView dealloc] is called. However, if I don't release the view the memory is never freed up, and I've confirmed that there remains an extra retain call on the view after deallocating...which causes my total allocations to climb quickly and eventually crash the app after loading the view multiple times. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here though...I don't know what is trying to access the UIImageView after it has been released. I've included the relevant header and implementation code below (I'm using the Three20 framework, if that has anything to do with it...also, AppScrollView is just a UIScrollView that forwards the touchesEnded event to the next responder): Header: @interface PhotoHiResPreviewController : TTViewController <UIScrollViewDelegate> { NSString* imageURL; UIImage* hiResImage; UIImageView* imageView; UIView* mainView; AppScrollView* mainScrollView; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString* imageURL; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString* imageShortURL; @property (nonatomic, retain) UIImage* hiResImage; @property (nonatomic, retain) UIImageView* imageView; - (id)initWithImageURL:(NSString*)imageTTURL; Implementation: @implementation PhotoHiResPreviewController @synthesize imageURL, hiResImage, imageView; - (id)initWithImageURL:(NSString*)imageTTURL { if (self = [super init]) { hiResImage = nil; NSString *documentsDirectory = [NSString stringWithString:[NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) lastObject]]; [self setImageURL:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/%@.jpg", documentsDirectory, imageTTURL]]; } return self; } - (void)loadView { [super loadView]; // Initialize the scroll view hiResImage = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:self.imageURL]; CGSize photoSize = [hiResImage size]; mainScrollView = [[AppScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:[UIScreen mainScreen].bounds]; mainScrollView.autoresizingMask = ( UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight); mainScrollView.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; mainScrollView.contentSize = photoSize; mainScrollView.contentMode = UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit; mainScrollView.delegate = self; // Create the image view and add it to the scrollview. UIImageView *tempImageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, photoSize.width, photoSize.height)]; tempImageView.contentMode = UIViewContentModeCenter; [tempImageView setImage:hiResImage]; self.imageView = tempImageView; [tempImageView release]; [mainScrollView addSubview:imageView]; // Configure zooming. CGSize screenSize = [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size; CGFloat widthRatio = screenSize.width / photoSize.width; CGFloat heightRatio = screenSize.height / photoSize.height; CGFloat initialZoom = (widthRatio > heightRatio) ? heightRatio : widthRatio; mainScrollView.maximumZoomScale = 3.0; mainScrollView.minimumZoomScale = initialZoom; mainScrollView.zoomScale = initialZoom; mainScrollView.bouncesZoom = YES; mainView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:[UIScreen mainScreen].bounds]; mainView.autoresizingMask = ( UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight); mainView.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; mainView.contentMode = UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit; [mainView addSubview:mainScrollView]; // Add to view self.view = mainView; [imageView release]; [mainScrollView release]; [mainView release]; } - (UIView *)viewForZoomingInScrollView:(UIScrollView *)scrollView { return imageView; } - (void)dealloc { mainScrollView.delegate = nil; TT_RELEASE_SAFELY(imageURL); TT_RELEASE_SAFELY(hiResImage); [super dealloc]; } I'm not sure how to get around this. If I remove the call to [imageView release] at the end of the loadView method everything works fine...but I have massive allocations that quickly climb to a breaking point. If I DO release it, however, there's that [UIImageView stopAnimating] call that crashes the application after the view is deallocated. Thanks for any help! I've been banging my head against this one for days. :-P Cheers, Josiah

  • How can I successfully dechiper Instruments Messages for iPhone Leak

    - by dubbeat
    Hi, I have a memory leak in my app. (This is the first of many I'm sure :() I've being trying to use Instruments to find it. Instruments gives me a lot of information but I think I must just not know how to use this information. What I did so far was 1) Run the app with Instruments 2) Memory Leak Occurs named general -stack 16 3) Find general - stack 16 in the object allocations part of instruments 4) The information here says the event type is a malloc, that webcore is responsible and the something named WKSetCurrentGraphicContext is the responsible caller. How can I use this given information to discover where in my code the leak is being caused? If I comment out the following function I don't get the leak warning so I guess it should be in there somewhere but I can't see where -(void)constructFeatured { NSString *imageName =[[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%@%@%@",@"http://myweb/avatar_", featuredValueObject.featured_promo_artistid, @".jpg"]; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:imageName]; CGRect frame; frame.size.width=100; frame.size.height=100; frame.origin.x=20; frame.origin.y=39; [imageName release]; imageName=nil; SDWebImageManager *manager = [SDWebImageManager sharedManager]; UIImage *cachedImage = [manager imageWithURL:url]; if (cachedImage) { cachedImage =[ImageManipulator makeRoundCornerImage:cachedImage : 10 : 10]; UIImageView *avatarimageview = [[UIImageView alloc]initWithImage:cachedImage ]; avatarimageview.frame=frame; [self.view addSubview:avatarimageview]; UIView *spinny = [self.view viewWithTag:SPINNY_TAG]; [spinny removeFromSuperview]; [avatarimageview release]; } else { [manager downloadWithURL:url delegate:self]; } NSURL *url2 =[NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@%@",@"http://myweb/", featuredValueObject.featured_promo_artistcountry , @".png"]]; CGRect flagframe; flagframe.size.width=16; flagframe.size.height=11; flagframe.origin.x=130; flagframe.origin.y=40; NSData* data = [[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url2]; UIImage* img = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:data]; UIImageView *imageflagview = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage: img]; imageflagview.frame=flagframe; [self.view addSubview:imageflagview]; [imageflagview release]; imageflagview=nil; [data release]; [img release]; [url release]; artistname =[[UILabel alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(130,75, 200, 15)]; [artistname setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:@"Arial" size:(16.0)]]; artistname.backgroundColor= [UIColor clearColor]; artistname.textColor=[UIColor whiteColor]; artistname.text=featuredValueObject.featured_promo_artistname; [self.view addSubview:artistname]; [artistname release]; hasConstructedFeatured=YES; [featuredValueObject release]; featuredValueObject=nil; }
