    We have prepared notes for university students which are on .docx format. And we want it to put on our website for viewing. We tried one option. Uploading the files on scribd and embedding it on our website for viewing on scribd viewer. Will making documents available on srcibd viewer on our website affect search engine rankings ? Will search engines treat it as duplicate content as those are already uploaded on scribd and we are embedding it on our website ? On scribd we have set the uploaded documents as 'private' though. And if it affects, can you suggest any suitable way to make .docx files to be viewed on our website that doesn't affect search engine rankings ?

  • Eval IronPython Scripts during ASP.NET Web Request; Static Engine or Not

    I would like to create an ASP.NET MVC web application which has extensible logic that does not require a re-build. I was thinking of creating a filter which had an instance of the IronPython engine. What I would like to know is: how much overhead is there in creating a new engine during each web request, and would it be a better idea to keep a static engine around? However, if I were to keep a single static engine around, what are the issues I might run into as far as locking and script scope? Is it possible to have multiple scopes in the same IropPython engine so I don't get variable collision and security issues between web requests?

  • Are spurious TCP connections on port 53 a problem?

    I run a server which amongst other things uses tinydns for DNS and axfrdns for handling transfer requests from our secondary DNS (another system). I understand that tinydns uses port 53 on UDP and axfrdns uses port 53 on TCP. I've configured axfrdns to only allow connections from my agreed secondary host. I run logcheck to monitor my logs and every day I see spurious connections on port 53 (TCP) from seemingly random hosts. They usually turn out to be from ADSL connections. My question is; are these innocent requests or a security risk? I am happy to block repeat offenders using iptables but don't want to block innocent users of one of the websites I host.     Hi there, I've just had an email from my hosting company telling me I'm in violation of their Acceptable Use Policy. They forwarded me an email from another company complaining about something to do with a "TCP sweep of port 22". They included a snippet from their logs, 20:29:43 <MY_SERVER_IP> 0.0.0.0 [TCP-SWEEP] (total=325,dp=22,min=212.1.191.0,max=212.1.191.255,Mar21-20:26:34,Mar21-20:26:34) (USI-amsxaid01) Now, my server knowledge is limited at best, and I've absolutely no idea what this is or what could be causing it.   • When using TCP load balancing with HAProxy, does all outbound traffic flow through the LB?

    I am setting up an app to be hosted using VMs(probably amazon, but that is not set in stone) which will require both HTTP load balancing and load balancing a large number(50k or so if possible) of persistant TCP connections. The amount of data is not all that high, but updates are frequent. Right now I am evaluating load balancers and am a bit confused about the architecture of HAProxy. If I use HAProxy to balance the TCP connections, will all the resulting traffic have to flow through the load balancer? If so, would another solution(such as LVS or even nginx_tcp_proxy_module) be a better fit?

    the TCP/IP stack is smashed, thats why no LAN-Connections are running. I want to download the LAN drivers from another computer and uninstall and reinstall the LAN devices on this system. Hopefully that should recreate the stack. But what to download? What uninstall? How to install? Windows Vista is protected against such changes, so how to achieve that job? please help. Update per 2011-03-11: I found all the tipps and hints about "TCP/IP Repair, LSP Fix, and WinSock Fix" according to windows vista but nothing helped to bring back network access. What can i do as next step or which opportunities are left?

  • How can I measure TCP timeout limit on NAT firewall for setting keepalive interval?

    A new (NAT) firewall appliance was recently installed at $WORK. Since then, I'm getting many network timeouts and interruptions, especially for operations which would require the server to think for a bit without a response (svn update, rsync, etc.). Inbound SSH sessions over VPN also timeout frequently. That clearly suggests I need to adjust the TCP (and ssh) keepalive time on the servers in question in order to reduce these errors. But what is the appropriate value I should use? Assuming I have machines on both sides of the firewall between which I can make a connection, is there a way to measure what the time limit on TCP connections might be for this firewall? In theory, I would send a packet with gradually increasing intervals until the connection is lost. Any tools that might help (free or open source would be best, but I'm open to other suggestions)? The appliance is not under my control, so I can't just get the value, though I am attempting to ask what it currently is and if I can get it increased.

    Hi all, I've tried to figure out what Microsoft means by "Windows sockets" and it all seems very vague. Basically we have customers that sometimes try to set up workgroups with close to 10 Windows XP computers with drive and printer shares and we're worried that some of the non-Windows Ethernet devices on the network will cause issues with the inbound connection limit outlined here where only 10 inbound connections can be active at one time. For example, there is an Ethernet Caller ID device that broadcasts UDP packets to all computers, and a kitchen display system that likewise broadcasts UDP. They may also have incoming TCP packets for our custom online ordering module. Do these TCP/UDP connections count toward the inbound connection limit? I'm aware that Windows 7 has increased the limit to 20 but we might have future customers that will push that limit. Thanks in advance

    Hello Experts, I would be greatful for help, understanding how long it takes to establish a TCP connection when I have the Ping RoundTripTip: According to Wikipedia a TCP Connection will be established in three steps: 1.SYN-SENT (=>CLIENT TO SERVER) 2.SYN/ACK-RECEIVED (=>SERVER TO CLIENT) 3.ACK-SENT (=>CLIENT TO SERVER) My Questions: Is it correct, that the third transmission (ACK-SENT) will not yet carry any payload (my data) but is only used for the connection establishement.(This leads to the conclusion, that the fourth packt will be the first packt to hold any payload....) Is it correct to assume, that when my Ping RoundTripTime is 20 milliseconds, that in the example given above, the TCP Connection establishment would at least require 30 millisecons, before any data can be transmitted between the Client and Server?     If the client wants to watch a stream that is on my RTSP server, it first tries to setup a stream through the UDP protocol. How can I tell it that my server only supports RTP/AVP/TCP and that it should switch transports? I want to terminate the UDP support on my server, but all the clients first try to SETUP the session over UDP, and later they do so over TCP... and I want to switch them to TCP as soon as possible in RTSP protocol. How can I do that?

  • Dynamic Code for type casting Generic Types 'generically' in C#

    C# is a strongly typed language and while that's a fundamental feature of the language there are more and more situations where dynamic types make a lot of sense. I've written quite a bit about how I use dynamic for creating new type extensions: Dynamic Types and DynamicObject References in C# Creating a dynamic, extensible C# Expando Object Creating a dynamic DataReader for dynamic Property Access Today I want to point out an example of a much simpler usage for dynamic that I use occasionally to get around potential static typing issues in C# code especially those concerning generic types. TypeCasting Generics Generic types have been around since .NET 2.0 I've run into a number of situations in the past - especially with generic types that don't implement specific interfaces that can be cast to - where I've been unable to properly cast an object when it's passed to a method or assigned to a property. Granted often this can be a sign of bad design, but in at least some situations the code that needs to be integrated is not under my control so I have to make due with what's available or the parent object is too complex or intermingled to be easily refactored to a new usage scenario. Here's an example that I ran into in my own RazorHosting library - so I have really no excuse, but I also don't see another clean way around it in this case. A Generic Example Imagine I've implemented a generic type like this: public class RazorEngine<TBaseTemplateType> where TBaseTemplateType : RazorTemplateBase, new() You can now happily instantiate new generic versions of this type with custom template bases or even a non-generic version which is implemented like this: public class RazorEngine : RazorEngine<RazorTemplateBase> { public RazorEngine() : base() { } } To instantiate one: var engine = new RazorEngine<MyCustomRazorTemplate>(); Now imagine that the template class receives a reference to the engine when it's instantiated. This code is fired as part of the Engine pipeline when it gets ready to execute the template. It instantiates the template and assigns itself to the template: var template = new TBaseTemplateType() { Engine = this } The problem here is that possibly many variations of RazorEngine<T> can be passed. I can have RazorTemplateBase, RazorFolderHostTemplateBase, CustomRazorTemplateBase etc. as generic parameters and the Engine property has to reflect that somehow. So, how would I cast that? My first inclination was to use an interface on the engine class and then cast to the interface.  Generally that works, but unfortunately here the engine class is generic and has a few members that require the template type in the member signatures. So while I certainly can implement an interface: public interface IRazorEngine<TBaseTemplateType> it doesn't really help for passing this generically templated object to the template class - I still can't cast it if multiple differently typed versions of the generic type could be passed. I have the exact same issue in that I can't specify a 'generic' generic parameter, since there's no underlying base type that's common. In light of this I decided on using object and the following syntax for the property (and the same would be true for a method parameter): public class RazorTemplateBase :MarshalByRefObject,IDisposable { public object Engine {get;set; } } Now because the Engine property is a non-typed object, when I need to do something with this value, I still have no way to cast it explicitly. What I really would need is: public RazorEngine<> Engine { get; set; } but that's not possible. Dynamic to the Rescue Luckily with the dynamic type this sort of thing can be mitigated fairly easily. For example here's a method that uses the Engine property and uses the well known class interface by simply casting the plain object reference to dynamic and then firing away on the properties and methods of the base template class that are common to all templates:/// <summary> /// Allows rendering a dynamic template from a string template /// passing in a model. This is like rendering a partial /// but providing the input as a /// </summary> public virtual string RenderTemplate(string template,object model) { if (template == null) return string.Empty; // if there's no template markup if(!template.Contains("@")) return template; // use dynamic to get around generic type casting dynamic engine = Engine; string result = engine.RenderTemplate(template, model); if (result == null) throw new ApplicationException("RenderTemplate failed: " + engine.ErrorMessage); return result; } Prior to .NET 4.0  I would have had to use Reflection for this sort of thing which would have a been a heck of a lot more verbose, but dynamic makes this so much easier and cleaner and in this case at least the overhead is negliable since it's a single dynamic operation on an otherwise very complex operation call. Dynamic as  a Bailout Sometimes this sort of thing often reeks of a design flaw, and I agree that in hindsight this could have been designed differently. But as is often the case this particular scenario wasn't planned for originally and removing the generic signatures from the base type would break a ton of other code in the framework. Given the existing fairly complex engine design, refactoring an interface to remove generic types just to make this particular code work would have been overkill. Instead dynamic provides a nice and simple and relatively clean solution. Now if there were many other places where this occurs I would probably consider reworking the code to make this cleaner but given this isolated instance and relatively low profile operation use of dynamic seems a valid choice for me. This solution really works anywhere where you might end up with an inheritance structure that doesn't have a common base or interface that is sufficient. In the example above I know what I'm getting but there's no common base type that I can cast to. All that said, it's a good idea to think about use of dynamic before you rush in. In many situations there are alternatives that can still work with static typing. Dynamic definitely has some overhead compared to direct static access of objects, so if possible we should definitely stick to static typing. In the example above the application already uses dynamics extensively for dynamic page page templating and passing models around so introducing dynamics here has very little additional overhead. The operation itself also fires of a fairly resource heavy operation where the overhead of a couple of dynamic member accesses are not a performance issue.   • Can't join OS X Mavericks to AD Domain

    I'm attempting to join an OS X Mavericks (10.9) client to a Windows Server 2008 Active Directory domain, however the bind fails with this error in the OS X client's system.log: Oct 24 15:03:15 host.domain.com com.apple.preferences.users.remoteservice[5547]: -[ODCAddServerSheetController handleOtherActionError: gotError: Error Domain=com.apple.OpenDirectory Code=5202 "Authentication server encountered an error while attempting the requested operation." UserInfo=0x7f9e6cb3e180 {NSLocalizedDescription=Authentication server encountered an error while attempting the requested operation., NSLocalizedFailureReason=Authentication server encountered an error while attempting the requested operation.}, Authentication server encountered an error while attempting the requested operation. I've joined (bound) Ubuntu Linux clients to the same domain with net ads join in the past with no problems (using the same administrative user). I don't have access to any server logs. Here's the GUI error (from Directory Utility) on the OS X client: Here's the GUI error (from User's and Groups) in System Preferences on the OS X client: Update After some Wiresharking I've got some more info: OS X Client - KDC (over UDP): AS_REQ (no padata) OS X Client <- KDC (over UDP): KRB5KDC_ERR_PREAUTH_REQUIRED OS X Client - KDC (over UDP): AS_REQ (this time with PA-ENC-TIMESTAMP in padata) OS X Client <- KDC (over UDP): KRB5KDC_ERR_RESPONSE_TOO_BIG OS X Client - KDC (over TCP): AS_REQ (also with PA-ENC-TIMESTAMP in padata) OS X Client <- KDC (over TCP): KDC_ERR_ETYPE_NOSUPP ...and that's it. This is what I think is going on: The OS X client sends a kerberos request. The KDC says, "You need to pre-authenticate. Try again" The OS X client tries to pre-authenticate (all this so far is over UDP) Something gets lost on our network and the KDC says, "Oops something went wrong" The OS X client switches to TCP and tries again. Over TCP, the KDC says, "You're using an encryption type I don't support" Note that in its padata records, the OS X client is always using "aes256-cts-hmac-sha1-96" as its encryption type. However, in its KDC_REQ_BODY record it lists the aes256-cts-hmac-sha1-96, aes128-cts-hmac-sha1-96, des3-cbc-sha1, and rc4-hmac encryption types. When the KDC comes back with KDC_ERR_ETYPE_NOSUPP, it uses rc4-hmac as its encryption type in its padata record. I know next to nothing about Kerberos, but it seems to me that the OS X client should go ahead and try the rc4-hmac encryption type. However, it does nothing after this.   • Spring Security - Interactive login attempt was unsuccessful

    I've been trying to track down why Spring Security isn't creating the SPRING_SECURITY_REMEMBER_ME_COOKIE so I turned on logging for org.springframework.security.web.authentication.rememberme. At first glance, the logs make it seem like the login is failing but the login is actually successful in the sense that if I navigate to a page that requires authentication I am not redirected back to the login page. However, the logs appear to be saying the login credentials are invalid. Any ideas as to what is going on?     Hi, I'm having a headache figuring how to retrieve the gwt Radio Buttons values in the server side. Here is my UiBinder form: <g:FormPanel ui:field="form"><g:VerticalPanel ui:field="fruitPanel"> <g:RadioButton name="fruit">apple</g:RadioButton> <g:RadioButton name="fruit">banana</g:RadioButton> <g:SubmitButton>Submit</g:SubmitButton> ... Here is how i initialize the form: form.setAction("/submit"); form.setMethod(FormPanel.METHOD_POST); So i though i would have to do this on the servlet: fruit = req.getParameter("fruit") But of course this doesn't work, parameter fruit doesn't exist :/ Edit: Ok i get parameter fruit but it's always "on" I also did try to add the radio button in java with: RadioButton rb0 = new RadioButton("fruit", "apple"); RadioButton rb1 = new RadioButton("fruit", "banana"); fruitPanel.add(rb0); fruitPanel.add(rb1); So how should i do?

  • Google Datastore w/ JDO: Access Times?

    I'm hitting what appears (to me) strange behavior when I pull data from the google datastore over JDO. In particular, the query executes quickly (say 100 ms), but finding the size of the resulting List< takes about one second! Indeed, whatever operation I try to perform on the resulting list takes about a second. Has anybody seen this behavior? Is it expected? Unusual? Any way around it?   • How to solve validation error on xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation in jdoconfig.xml

    Since I updated today to GAE 1.7.2.1, I'm having validation errors in eclipse in all my jdoconfig.xml files. I have the default jdoconfig.xml content : [...] <jdoconfig xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jdo/jdoconfig" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jdo/jdoconfig"> [...] And eclipse validation throws: Referenced file contains errors (http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jdo/jdoconfig). For more information, right click on the message in the Problems View and select "Show Details..." When clicking on details I can see a bunch of lines like: s4s-elt-character: Non-whitespace characters are not allowed in schema elements other than 'xs:appinfo' and 'xs:documentation'. Saw 'var_U = "undefined";'. In different lines and different content in "Saw ... " It occurs in every single project I start using the "New Web Application Project..." from the google plugin. So does anyone have this problem? Any fix?

  • Is there a python openid apps-discovery library to get appengine apps onto the apps marketplace

    I'm looking for info on howto get a google appengine app onto the newly announced google apps marketplace. The page at http://code.google.com/googleapps/marketplace/sso.html does not have a python openid apps-discovery library which seems to be the stumbling block.
