• How do I change my gnome Ubuntu key-binding work as emacs?

  , Hello, everyone How can I change editing key-binding in Gnome on Ubuntu, and make it work like Emacs? Eg. When I'm chat with my friend, and I want to use Ctrl-a Ctrl-k to move my cursor go to the left of current line, and then cut current line, as OSX or Emacs. By default in Gnome Ubuntu, Ctrl-a is for "select all" and ctrl-k for nothing. Where does this key binding define? And how can I change this? I tried gnome-keybinding-properties and gsettings, find nothing. Maybe I have to compile something?

  Will be starting a small graphics design firm soon, with 20 employees. Therefore need software to manage the network. Have bought a bulk license of Windows 7. I have a spare computer which can act as a server if necessary, but its an ancient Dell machine (Pentium-III). If required I would purchase an extra machine, but would like to avoid unnecessary costs at start up. Following are the main functions that I would like to perform: Need to monitor\control network traffic and internet usage, restrict access to certain websites Alerts when access to certain software's, and when trying to tamper with privileges Ability to view desktops of any computer at any given time Limit access to certain hardware like USB ports,etc Limit access to folders on the computer Log/Report of all actions including keystrokes performed on any computer Local Network chat and talk client Collaboration and Work logs Any Software available to do all of the above and also any additional hardware required besides network switches, network card's and CAT5e cables.   I need to exchange encrypted messages with another party. These would be in the form of email like communication (not instant chat). The solution needs to be portable (USB stick). I've tried "Portable Thunderbird/Enigmail/Gnupg/Hotmail account" but it's just impossible to setup portable, countless meaningless error messages. Anyway, I would prefer something more straightforward. Notes: We won't know each others IP addresses. Our computers will often be switched off. Encryption would ideally be using a common password. Is there a solution to this?

• RAID10 without write-back cache = horrible write performance?

  I have just provisioned a dedicated server on singlehop. I'm running it through some tests to know what to expect performance-wise. On the I/O side (with 4 1TB disks in RAID 10) I get: write-cache disabled 200 MB/s read throughput 30 MB/s write throughput I thought that was really low compared to my desktop HD which gets 150-150 or so. So I had a chat with them and they suggested enabling the write cache. New results: write-cache enabled 280 MB/s read 260 MB/s write which is great and all but means I'd have to add a BBU for an additional monthly cost. Is it normal for the write throughput to be 1/4 of a regular drive on RAID10, if you don't have write cache? It almost feels like its intentionally bad to force you to pony up for the BBU. I'd be happy with normal non-raid performance of 150/150.

  I need to tutor my brother on a particular topic. We live in different geographical areas. We use g-talk to do the same. We do not have web-cam's to enable video chat. The tutoring will involve a lot of off-the-cuff illustrations. I am hence searching for a suitable software which will emulate a blackboard over an internet connection. I need the software to enable sharing of a common canvas on which I can draw, write and point to. Say a Microsoft paint canvas on internet. Could you point out a suitable software? Google is not of being help at the moment as I suspect that I am not specifying my search criteria properly.

• Looking for a USB A/B Box

  I have a laptop and a tower, and I usually like to use the laptop for my chat and other miscellaneous tasks while the tower is doing the hard work during video editing projects and such. Due to the way my desk is set up, it's kind of a stretch to reach over to the laptop's keyboard all the time, and having a second keyboard/mouse is rather cumbersome, albeit manageable if I keep the second keyboard in my lap. Does anyone make an A/B box that I can plug into the tower and the laptop so I can just flip the keyboard over to the appropriate machine as needed?

• Migrate wireless settings from xp to windows 7

  I'm trying to migrate the settings of my old machine (Win XP Professional) to the new one (Win 7 Professional) and I would like to keep my saved passwords for various wireless networks. How can I export them from XP and import in Win7? A few things that are mentioned a lot in chat groups but don't work: netsh can export/import wlan profiles on Vista/Win7, but not on XP; the Wireless Network Setup Wizard can only export settings for networks created by me; the best method I found was via http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_wep_key_faq.html which can list hex keys, but cannot load them nor save them in a useful format; I would rather not copy them one-by-one by hand.

• How do I delay email delivery using Entourage 2008 with Exchange, e.g. using the X.400 Deferred-Delivery header?

  I'd like to delay the delivery of email that I send so that I can time delivery when the recipient is unlikely to be reading email and I can reduce the likelihood of getting into a chat-like conversation. I'm using Entourage 2008 and Exchange hosted by Rackspace. I tried naively adding a Deferred-Delivery header after reading http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2156.html and www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-F.400-199906-I/en , but my mail was delivered immediately. Ideally the delay would occur on the MTA instead of my MUA so that delivery would still occur even if my laptop were disconnected from the network at the delivery time I specify. My best workaround at the moment is to habitually use Entourage's Send Later button when composing mail and then click Send/Receive at the end of the day. This is less than ideal because recipients are often reading mail at the end of my day, and I often get immediate replies. Matt

  I am a complete n00b to configuring Jabber/XMPP servers and I am hoping to get some help getting set up. I have done all of this and installed pidgin. I seem to be able set up my "admin-user" in pidgin no problem but when I try to register a new user I get a 403 Fobidden message back from pidgin. Do I need to change the ejabberd.cfg file to allow users to register? If so how do I go about it? If not what do I need to get basic chat and fileshare going?

• My website is infected, I restored a backup of the uninfected files, how long will it take to un-mark as dangerous?

  My website www.sagamountain.com was recently infected by a malware distributor (or at least I think it may have been). I have removed all external content, google ads, firefly chat, etc. I uploaded a backup from a few weeks ago, when there was no issue. I patched the SQL injection hole. Now, how long will it take to unmark it as dangerous? Where can I contact google? I am not sure if this is the right place to post it, but since it may have been a server issue I may as well. Can sites inject base64 code via a virus on the whole server, or is it only via sql injection? Thanks for the help, viruses freak me out. Is there an online virus scanner that can scan my page and tell me what is wrong?

• Strange Unclearable Cache Issue with Gmail and Google Apps

  I am having a strange issue with Gmail and Google Apps... have a look at this screenshot: http://cld.ly/f51ume notice the missing images for the rounded corners? Well this is not such a problem but something similar to a cache issue is causing this as well as no background image, but MOST IMPORTANTLY chat and other "clickable" features aren't working. I've already cleared my cache multiple times and quit and re-started Firefox with no change. Everything is OK in other browsers. Any other debug suggestions?

  The alt text to today's comic at xkcd.com (strip below) says: After years of trying, I broke this habit in a day by decoupling the action and the neurological reward. I set up a simple 30-second delay I had to wait through, in which I couldn't do anything else, before any new page or chat client would load (and only allowed one to run at once). The urge to check all those sites magically vanished--and my 'productive' computer use was unaffected. (bold is my emphasis) Does anybody know of a browser extension or other software that will add this sort of delay? I've seen extensions which simply block sites, but not a delay like this.

• Why doesn't the Gtalk plugin work in Firefox 3.6 betas? [closed]

  I've done a quick Google search, Bugzilla search, and glanced at Google's site for the GTalk plugin, but I can't find an answer, so I thought I'd pose the question here: On OS X, in the Firefox 3.6 betas (I'm now on beta 5, but it's been happening since at least beta 3), the GTalk plugin doesn't work for me. I've been completely unable to use video chat in GChat, which forces me to open Firefox 3.5 whenever I want to use it. This happens even after I uninstall/reinstall the GTalk plugin. Anyone know why this is happening?

  I have an old Dell optiplex GX240 on Pentium 4 1.8Ghz and 256MB Ram (or was it 512MB). It's still in working condition but it's getting slow for me and i wanted to optimize it. I just want that old box to be usable even for simple desktop use (email, surfing, chat). I also have to note that my parents prefer use it over a laptop for some reason. Treat it as a "box-type netbook". unlike the other threads that they all prefer sending away or use as file server, firewall and that, i am looking for suggestions on how to keep it usable as the main PC. any suggestions? • 10 System LAN latency with ADSL modem as gateway

  Recently I expanded LAN in my office from 3 to 10 computers. Structure star topology, one ADSL Modem connected to One Switch which is again connected to 10 computers. Also we have Wifi device Netgear which is connected from switch. ADSL Modem acts as the DHCP Server, all the system will have default gateway IP (ADSL Modem's IP) Network latency is now become very high, All the chat severs disconnect often like google talk, skype etc, also internet become very very slow. when all the computer turned on. We have 4 Mbps Download and 100 Kbps upload Net speed. Its look like ADSL Modem cannot able to handle all the connections. I tried to setup a system as default gateway which will connect to modem, not sure how to do this. Please advice on this.

• Do I need a web service for watershed.ustream.tv?

  I am looking to use the watershed.ustream.tv service for a one-time event. Do I really need my own web service? In the control panel it says “WARNING: the test web service will always approve all requests so do NOT use it in a production environment!”.   I have bought a new PC with Windows 7 and a Kodak wireless printer esp 7. I can't download the software always unsuccessful and can't connect to my printer. Any suggestions? Edit (from the other, duplicate question): Still having problems with printing. I did get it working by removing 'bonjour' but turned on yesterday and hey presto it's not working again. The printer is installed and showing as disconnected. Any ideas now? The chat doesn't work with Windows 7, I have downloaded the latest version, they take ages to answer emails, need to print stuff urgently. It's driving me insane!! Please help.
