• how to deal with pdf annotation with ipad in objective c?

  Hello, I know that it may sound a silly question but i am really very confused. I am to work with one application that is having operations like PDF loading,annotation, scrolling,zooming and other such functions. Now my question is that i am little bit confused about what template i should use as i went through Quartz 2D Programming Guide and was little bit confused whether i'll be able to apply the above shown functions with the same guideline,as it displays the pdf page on the whole screen. Or is there any other way around? Please help me..Can i use UIWebView for the same functions as i listed above? I ll be grateful if you can help me. Thank you.

• LINQ2SQL: orderby note.hasChildren(), name ascending

  I have a hierarchical data structure which I'm displaying in a webpage as a treeview. I want to data to be ordered to first show nodes ordered alphabetically which have no children, then under these nodes ordered alphabetically which have children. Currently I'm ordering all nodes in one group, which means nodes with children appear next to nodes with no children. I'm using a recursive method to build up the treeview, which has this LINQ code at it's heart: var filteredCategory = from c in category orderby c.Name ascending where c.ParentCategoryId == parentCategoryId && c.Active == true select c; So this is the orderby statement I want to enhance.   For some reason the following code doesn't work on Windows XP. new URL("file://" + tempfile.getAbsolutePath()); I'm using Java 1.6. Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_31-b05) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.6-b01, mixed mode, sharing) However, the same code just works fine in OS X (Lion) and Java 1.6 java version "1.6.0_29" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_29-b11-402-11M3527) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.4-b02-402, mixed mode) Linux (Linux 2.6.32-38-generic #83-Ubuntu x86_64 GNU/Linux) with Java 1.6 java version "1.6.0_26" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode) Based on this the above code should work.

• How to automatically email customers registration keys?

  I've written a bit of software that I'd like to share with others (a Mac Dashboard widget, specifically), but I'd also like to be compensated a bit for the time I spent on it. I've devised my own simple registration key algorithm, which takes a customer's email address and creates a 12-character alphanumeric key. The software itself is finished, demo limitations, key validation & all. I just need to get the keys to customers. How do I simply alert a key generation script to automatically email a customer a key, upon notification that they paid my account? Can I use PayPal IPN & JavaScript? The simplest solution will do - this is a five dollar widget. :)

• How to determine what user and group a Python script is running as?

  I have a CGI script that is getting an "IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied" error in the stack trace in the web server's error log. As part of debugging this problem, I'd like to add a little bit of code to the script to print the user and (especially) group that the script is running as, into the error log (presumably STDERR). I know I can just print the values to sys.stderr, but how do I figure out what user and group the script is running as? (I'm particularly interested in the group, so the $USER environment variable won't help; the CGI script has the setgid bit set so it should be running as group "list" instead of the web server's "www-data" - but I need code to see if that's actually happening.)

  before answer me plz thinking about the futures of these kind of program and answer me plz. I wanna get some data from oracle server like: 1-get all the function,package,procedure and etc for showing them or drop them & etc... 2-compile my *.sql files,get the result if they have problem & etc... becuz I was beginner in oracle first of all I for solve the second problem I try to connect to sqlPlus by RUN sqlplus and trace the output(I mean,I change the output stream of shell and trace what happend and handle the assigned message to customer. NOW THIS PART SUCCEED. just a little bit I have problem with get all result because the output is asynchronous.any way... [in this case I log in to oracle Server by send argument to the sqlplus by make a process in c#] after that I try to get all function,package or procedure name,but I have problem in speed!so I try to use oracle.DataAccess.dll to connect the database. now I m so confusing about: which way is correct way to build a program that work like Oracle Developer! I do not have any experience for like these program how work. If Your answer is I must use the second way follow this part plz: I search a little bit the Golden,PLedit (Benthic software),I have little bit problem how I must create the connection string?because I thinking about how I can find the host name or port number that oracle work on them?? am I need read the TNSNames.Ora file? • php/mysql show data from chosen checkboxes

  Hi. I have a table called FRUIT id type daysold 1 banana 5 2 apple 6 3 apple 4 4 peach 2 5 banana 6 What I would like is to have 3 checkboxes: Banana [ ] Apple [ ] Peach [ ] SUBMIT Then if I've only checked "Banana" and "Peach" the mysql output should only show me the rows that matches those two types. And the checkboxes should remain checked to highlight what was chosen. I can make the checkboxes but then that's about it really. I don't know how to properly get the info from the checkboxes and down to the WHERE argument in the MYSQL-code. Especially not with two types chosen. If it was just a dropdown menu with a single choice then I'd add the choice to the url and put WHERE type='$choice' - but I'm struggling with the multiple choices. I'm a bit of a novice at both php and mysql, so I'm a bit lost on this one.

• gcc options for fastest code

  I'm distributing a C++ program with a makefile for the Unix version, and I'm wondering what compiler options I should use to get the fastest possible code (it falls into the category of programs that can use all the computing power they can get and still come back for more), given that I don't know in advance what hardware, operating system or gcc version the user will have, and I want above all else to make sure it at least works correctly on every major Unix-like operating system. Thus far, I have g++ -O3 -Wno-write-strings, are there any other options I should add? On Windows, the Microsoft compiler has options for things like fast calling convention and link time code generation that are worth using, are there any equivalents on gcc? (I'm assuming it will default to 64-bit on a 64-bit platform, please correct me if that's not the case.)

  I'm having a bit of trouble with ReferencePropertys in App Engine (Python). For a bit of fun, I'm trying to model a folder/file system, but having trouble getting folders to reference folders. My first attempt was this: class Folder(db.Model): id = db.StringProperty() name = db.StringProperty() created = db.DateTimeProperty(auto_now_add=True) folder = db.ReferenceProperty(Folder, collection_name="folders") But that fails as "Folder" isn't defined when "folder" is trying to be defined. I've also tried defining "folder" outside of the main declaration for "Folder", like so: class Folder(db.Model): id = db.StringProperty() name = db.StringProperty() created = db.DateTimeProperty(auto_now_add=True) Folder.folder = db.ReferenceProperty(Folder, collection_name="folders") But that fails with: AttributeError: 'Folder' object has no attribute 'folders' I'm kind of stumped. • Why does my Eclipse crash all the time?

  Somehow stupid question, I have to admit - hope it won't cost me too many points. To make it clear: I would also be happy if you can help me find the reason for the crashes. I wouldn't expect a precise answer. However, I don't see why my Eclipse is crashing (freezing) all the time. Mostly when I save a file. For some reason, crashes seem to increase lately... I use Eclipse Helios (Version: 3.6.1) and java version "1.6.0_20" (OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.2) (6b20-1.9.2-0ubuntu2) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode)) on Ubuntu 10.10 (64-Bit). • Overloading Controller Actions

  Hi Guys I was a bit surprised a few minutes ago when I tried to overload an Action in one of my Controllers I had public ActionResult Get() { return PartialView(/*return all things*/); } I added public ActionResult Get(int id) { return PartialView(/*return 1 thing*/); } .... and all of a sudden neither were working I fixed the issue by making 'id' nullable and getting rid of the other two methods public ActionResult Get(int? id) { if (id.HasValue) return PartialView(/*return 1 thing*/); else return PartialView(/*return everything*/); } and it worked, but my code just got a little bit ugly! Any comments or suggestions? Do I have to live with this blemish on my Controllers? Thanks Dave

• X11 and ARGB visuals: does DefaultDepth() never return 32?

  Hi, I'm establishing a connection to the X server like this: display = XOpenDisplay(NULL); screen = DefaultScreen(display); depth = DefaultDepth(display, screen); I'm wondering now why "depth" is always set to 24. I would expect that it is only 24 when compositing is turned off, but in fact, it is still 24 even when I turn on compositing. So in order to get a 32-bit ARGB visual I need to call XGetVisualInfo() first with depth set explicitly to 32. Now to my question: Will DefaultDepth() generally never return more than 24 or is it just on my system? (my graphics board is somewhat dated...). I know that it could return 15, 16 or even 8 for a CLUT display but can it return 32? Or do I always have to use XGetVisualInfo() first to get a ARGB 32-bit visual? Thanks, Andy

  The Silverlight(& WPF) space seems to have a whole new nomenclature around it so at times I'm having a hard time figuring our what is important and useful to research a bit more. For example I 'know' about the MVVM pattern but I'm looking for things that are a bit smaller in scope, that is topics, ideas, programming constructs that might be used in implementing MVVM and would need to know before hand. So basically I'm looking for some of the key topics and concepts that people have found useful or are important when creating a Silverlight apps. • BigInteger.Parse() on hexadecimal number gives negative numbers.

  I've started using .NET 4 System.Numerics.BigInteger Structure and I've encountered a problem. I'm trying to parse a string that contains a hexadecimal number with no sign (positive). I'm getting a negative number. For example, I do the following two asserts: Assert.IsTrue(System.Int64.Parse("8", NumberStyles.HexNumber, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) > 0, "Int64"); Assert.IsTrue(System.Numerics.BigInteger.Parse("8", NumberStyles.HexNumber, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) > 0, "BigInteger"); The first assert succeeds, the second assert fails. I actually get -8 instead of 8 in the BigInteger. The problem seems to be when I'm the hexadecimal starts with 1 bit and not 0 bit (a digit between 8 and F inclusive). If I add a leading 0, everything works perfectly. Is that a bad usage on my part? Is it a bug in BigInteger?

First they've added a form for creating a new dinner, with a bunch of textboxes delcared like: <%= Html.TextArea("Description") %> They then show two ways of binding form input to the model: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Create() { Dinner dinner = new Dinner(); UpdateModel(dinner); ... } or: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Create(Dinner dinner) { ... } Ok, great, that all looks really easy so far. Then a bit later on they say: It is important to always be paranoid about security when accepting any user input, and this is also true when binding objects to form input. You should be careful to always HTML encode any user-entered values to avoid HTML and JavaScript injection attacks Huh? MVC is managing the data binding for us. Where/how are you supposed to do the HTML encoding?

Would especially like something similar to Joel. Something that is a bit edgy but informative. Pragmatic programmer has some key concepts but is a bit dry.

• Convert Google results object (pure js) to Python object

  So I'm trying to use Google Map suggest API to request place name suggestions. Unfortunately I can't find the docs for this bit. Here is an example URI: http://maps.google.com/maps/suggest?q=lon&cp=3&ll=55.0,-3.5&spn=11.9,1.2&hl=en&gl=uk&v=2 which returns: {suggestion:[{query:"London",... I want to use this in python (2.5). Now in proper JSON there would have been quotations around the keys like so: {"suggestion":[{"query":"London",... and I could have used simplejson or something, but as it is I'm a bit stuck. There are two possible solutions here; either I can get to the API code and find an option to return proper JSON, or I do that in python. Any ideas please.

• How do I compile on linux to share with all distributions?

  I compiled a PHP extension on Fedora Core 12, but when I send it to someone using CentOS they get the error: "ELF file OS ABI invalid" I'm not sure what causes this running file provides the following info: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, AMD x86-64, version 1 (GNU/Linux), not stripped An extension that loads fine provides the following from file: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), not stripped So it seems I need to generate a SYSV type file for some distributions, instead of a GNU/LINUX file, no idea how though. Any pointers? Also should I be statically linking?

• Django colon syntax in template tags: only in newer versions?

  I just deployed an application to a new server, and although I'm using virtualenv, I had to install a new environment on the production server, which has a different architecture. Anyway, I received no TemplateSytaxErrors in development, but on the production server, I get: Exception Type: TemplateSyntaxError Exception Value: Caught SyntaxError while rendering: invalid syntax (views.py, line 25) The offending line is: {% url admin:password_change as password_change_url %} Upon removing that line, the TemplateSyntaxError hops to the next line that has a colon in it (and lets other template tags work fine). So my question is this: is there some discrepancy in versions of Python/Django that would allow or disallow the namespacing syntax? The template tags are in django-grappelli (http://code.google.com/p/django-grappelli/), so I'd rather not go through their code and rewrite all the template tags. Development server: 32-bit Debian Python 2.5.5 Django 1.2.1 Production server: 64-bit CentOS Python 2.4.3 Django 1.2.1 Any ideas?

So here it is again: What are the possible ways to store an unsigned integer value (32-bit value or 32-bit bitmap) into a 4-byte field in SQL Server? Here are ideas I have seen: 1) Use a -1*2^31 offset for all values Disadvantages: need to perform math on the values before reading/writing/aggregating. 2) Use 4 tinyint fields Disadvantages: need to concatenate values to perform any operations 3) Use binary(4) Disadvantages: actually uses 4 + 2 bytes of space

• Rolling back or re-creating the master branch in git?

  I have a git repo which has a few branches - there's the master branch, which is our stable working version, and then there is a development/staging branch which we're doing new work in. Unfortunately it would appear that without thinking I was a bit overzealous with rebasing and have pulled all of the staging code into Master over a period of time (about 80 commits... yes, I know, stupid, clumsy, poor code-man-ship etc....). Due to this it makes it very hard for me to do minor fixes on the current version of our app (a rails application) and push out the changes without also pushing out the 'staged' new features which we don't yet want to release. I am wondering if it is possible to do the following: Determine the last 'trunk' commit Take all commits from that point onward and move them into a separate branch, more or less rolling back the changes Start using the branches like they were made for. Unfortunately, though, I'm still continually learning about git, so I'm a bit confused about what to really do here. Thanks!
