  • SQL Azure maximum database size rises from 10GB to 50GB in June

  • Increase application performance

    I'm writing a program for a company that will generate a daily report for them. All of the data that they use for this report is stored in a local SQLite database. For this report, the utilize pretty much every bit of the information in the database. So currently, when I query the datbase, I retrieve everything, and store the information in lists. Obviously, the more information that is in this database, the longer the initial query will take. I'm curious if there is a way to increase the performance of the query at all? I could to use a dummy file descriptor to trigger an event and scape of wait?, or a simple call to connect() could fire the event??... Sorry for my bad english...

Any ideas are welcome. One other note is that I know my build of PHP can access this postgresql db since I'm able to manage the db using phpPgAdmin. But I have yet to determine what phpPgAdmin is doing differently to connect to the db than what Kohana 3 is attempting. Bart

  • What is an Ontology (Database?) ?

    I was just reading this article and it mentions that some organization had an Ontology as(?) their database(?) layer, and that the decision to do this was bad. Problem is I hadn't heard about this before, so I can't understand why it's bad. So I tried googling about databases and ontology, and came about quite a few pdfs from 2006 that we're full of incomprehensible content (for my mind). I read a few of these and at this point still have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. My current impression is that it was some crazy fad of 2006 that some academics were trying to sell us, but failed miserably due to the wording of their ideas. But I'm still curious if anyone actually knows what this is actually all about.

The application is working ok, but somethings, and lately more often, we have started receiving this error from the db when openning the connection: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233) The problem is intermittent. The user works nice for a couple of hours and then suddenly the exception is thrown. Sometimes it happens when we run a small process that loads a file and then inserts the data to the db. Please if anybody has any thought on this help me

    I'm making a program that will post data to a database, and I've run into a pattern that I'm sure is familiar: A short table of most-likely (very strongly likely) fixed values that serve as an enum. So suppose the following table called Status: Status Id Description -------------- 0 Unprocessed 1 Pending 2 Processed 3 Error In my program I need to determine a status Id for another table, or possibly update a record with a new status Id. I could hardcode the status Id's in an enum and hope no one ever changes the database. Or I could pre-fetch the values based on the description (thus hardcoding that instead). What would be the correct approach to keep these two, enum and table, synced?

  • No SQLCompact Edition Support IN VS 2013

    Firstly apologies if this is a poor question - I am an engineer not a programmer. I have spent time moving from Visual Basic to C#. I have started C#/SQL tutorials. I have noticed VS 2013 has stopped supporting the compact edition database normally used for standalone desktop apps. Somebody has kindly written a plugin to re-implement support. I have also noticed a belief circulating that SQLite is to replace the compact edition. Would anybody be able to advise if this was accurate - I am slightly confused as to which database is best suited for desktop app development inside VS 2013. Any comment greatly appreciated.     When i connect to my machine using remote desktop the dropdown menus and comboboxes i used in my wpf application is not showing up. And after closing the session when i comes back to my development machine where actually my application runs there also the same issue happens after the remote desktop session. Tried by changing resolution and all sometimes it works but most of the time result is negative. The only temporary solution i found for this is just rebooting the system which is not applicable. Could anyone please help me to fix this issue. Thanks in advance.

  • 10 Steps to access Oracle stored procedures from Crystal Reports

    Requirements to access Oracle stored procedures from CR The following requirements must be met in order for CR to access an Oracle stored procedure: 1. You must create a package that defines the REF CURSOR. This REF CURSOR must be strongly bound to a static pre-defined structure (see Strongly Bound REF CURSORs vs Weakly Bound REF CURSORs). This package must be created separately and before the creation of the stored procedure. NOTE Crystal Reports 9 native connections will support Oracle stored procedures created within packages as well as Oracle stored procedures referencing weakly bound REF CURSORs. Crystal Reports 8.5 native connections will support Oracle stored procedures referencing weakly bound REF CURSORs. 2. The procedure must have a parameter that is a REF CURSOR type. This is because CR uses this parameter to access and define the result set that the stored procedure returns. 3. The REF CURSOR parameter must be defined as IN OUT (read/write mode). After the procedure has opened and assigned a query to the REF CURSOR, CR will perform a FETCH call for every row from the query's result. This is why the parameter must be defined as IN OUT. 4. Parameters can only be input (IN) parameters. CR is not designed to work with OUT parameters. 5. The REF CURSOR variable must be opened and assigned its query within the procedure. 6. The stored procedure can only return one record set. The structure of this record set must not change, based on parameters. 7. The stored procedure cannot call another stored procedure. 8. If using an ODBC driver, it must be the CR Oracle ODBC driver (installed by CR). Other Oracle ODBC drivers (installed by Microsoft or Oracle) may not function correctly. 9. If you are using the CR ODBC driver, you must ensure that in the ODBC Driver Configuration setup, under the Advanced Tab, the option 'Procedure Return Results' is checked ON. 10. If you are using the native Oracle driver and using hard-coded date selection within the procedure, the date selection must use either a string representation format of 'YYYY-DD-MM' (i.e. WHERE DATEFIELD = '1999-01-01') or the TO_DATE function with the same format specified (i.e. WHERE DATEFIELD = TO_DATE ('1999-01-01','YYYY-MM-DD'). For more information, refer to kbase article C2008023. 11. Most importantly, this stored procedure must execute successfully in Oracle's SQL*Plus utility. If all of these conditions are met, you must next ensure you are using the appropriate database driver.
