• IIS URL Rewriting: How can I reliably keep relative paths when serving multiple files?

  My WebApp is part CMS, and when I serve up an HTML page to the user it typically contains relative paths in a.href and img.src attributes. I currently have them accessed by urls like: ~/get-data.aspx/instance/user/page.html -- where instance indicates the particular instance for the report and "user/page.html" is a path created by an external application that generates the content. This works pretty reliably with code in the application's BeginRequest method that translates the text after ".aspx" into a query string, then uses Context.RewritePath(). So far so good, but I've just tripped over something that took me by surprise: it appears that if any of the query string ("instance/user/page.html") happens to contain a plus sign ("+") the BeginRequest method is never called, and a 404 is immediately returned to the user. So my question is two-fold: Am I correct in my belief that a "+" would cause the 404, and if so are there other things that could cause similar problems? Is there a way around that problem (perhaps a different method than BeginRequest)? Is there a better way to preserve relative URL paths for generated content than what I'm using? I'd rather not require site admins to install a 3rd party rewrite tool if I can help it.

  I have a route with several optional parameters. These are possible search terms in different fields. So, for example, if I have fields key, itemtype and text then I have in global.asax: routes.MapRoute( _ "Search", _ "Admin.aspx/Search/{Key}/{ItemType}/{Text}", _ New With {.controller = "Admin", .action = "Search" .Key = Nothing, .ItemType = Nothing, .Text = Nothing} _ ) My action takes optional parameters: Function Search(Optional ByVal Key As String = Nothing, _ Optional ByVal ItemType As Integer = 0, _ Optional ByVal Text As String = Nothing, _ Optional ByVal OtherText As String = Nothing) It then checks if the Key and Text strings have a non-null (and non-empty) value and adds search terms to the db request as needed. However, is it possible to send in a null value for, for example, Key but still send in a value for Text? If so, what does the URL look like? (Admin.aspx/Search//0/Foo doesn't work :) ) I know I can handle this using a parameter array instead, but wondered if this was possible using the sort of route described? I could of course define some other value as equivalent to null (for example, a space/%20) but is there any way to send a null value in the URL? I'm suspecting not, but thought I'd see if anyone knew of one. I'm using ASP MVC 2 for this project.

• XAMPP mail not working with PHP mail() function.

  Hi gusy, I just installed XAMPP, Apache is running, so is MySQL and Mercury. In Dreamweaver I created a php file with a mail($to,$subject,$msg,'From:'.$email); function, but when I ran the file from localhost it showed an error. After playing around with xampp control panel, turning mercury on and off, it's not showing any errors, yet is not send the email either... any ideas? the 'admin' button on the cp for mercury does nothing. • django dynamically deduce SITE_ID according to the domain

  I am trying to develop a site which will render multiple customized sites according to the domain name (subdomain to be more precise). My all the domain names are redirected to the So for each site there will be a corresponding model which defines how the site should look (SITE - SITE_SETTINGS) What will be the best way to utilize the django sites framework to get the SITE_ID of the current site from the domain name instead of hard-coding it in the settings files (django sites documentation) and run database queries, render the views accordingly? If using multiple settings file is my only option can this (wsgi script handle domain name) be done? Update So finally, following lukes answer, what I will do is define a custom middleware which makes the views available with the important vars required according to the domain. And as far as sitemaps and comments is concerned, I will have to customize sitemaps app and a custom sites model on which the other models of sites will be based. And since the comments system is based on the hard-coded sitemap ID I can use it just as is on the models (models will already be filtered according to the site based on my sites framework) though the permalink feature will have to be customized. So a lot of customization. Please suggest if I am going wrong anywhere in this because I have to ensure that the features of the project are optimized. Thanks!

Html.ActionLink("About", "About", "Home") it renders a link to http://test.domain.com/Test/Home/About -- which gives a 404 the link should be .. http://test.domain.com/Home/About is there a way to override ActionLink to omit the /Test on render? • How to test for secure SMTP mail service on a mail server

  I'm working on a project to auto-configure a user's email server settings in Java. I am extracting the mail server from his email address and looking up the MX records of that mail server using the DirContext class with com.sun.jndi.dns.DnsContextFactory. Then I'm opening a Socket to each server and testing them using a HELO command and checking the responses. My problem is that this works only when I test it with the unsecure SMTP port 25. How can I use it with the secure port 465? I tried using Secure Sockets by using SSLSocketFactory sslsocketfactory = (SSLSocketFactory)SSLSocketFactory.getDefault(); SSLSocket socket = (SSLSocket)sslsocketfactory.createSocket(mailserver, STANDARD_SMTP_PORT); But all connections get a timeout exception as follows alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com. java.net.ConnectException: Operation timed out Please help.

• submitting data via email to websystem

  I'm working on a task system and I'd like to be able to submit a task to the system by emailing it to a particular address. I'm thinking I could set my user by the sender, the task subject by the subject and the task comments by the text of the email.   I'm starting to get familiar with the new iOS 6 way to share: UIActivityViewController (the same as when you share a photo from the native iOS photo app), but I'm experiencing a few problems. First, when I choose to share via email, I can't find a way to set the subject of the email. Second, when I post on twitter, I can't find how to post a URL (except explicitly writing it in a NSString). Before, on iOS 5, I was using MFMailComposeViewController for Mail and SLComposeViewController for Twitter. It worked well. If there's no way to choose the subject with UIActivityViewController, could there be a way that I put my own custom buttons on the ActivityViewController, buttons that will call MFMailComposeViewController and SLComposeViewController when touched? I'm just speculating here. Thanks!

  I installed and set up routing-filter as described on the gem documentation page. https://github.com/svenfuchs/routing-filter It works for the default locale. For example, if I set up my default locale as :en,the site is in English, and if I set my default locale as :zh, the site is in Chinese. www.site.com/zh/home (the default locale path /en is automatically added to the URL) But how can I make my site support BOTH languages? when the default locale is :zh, I tried to change the URL by substituting the "zh" with "en" but the page is still in Chinese, not English. Is this something not supported by the routing-filter gem? If not, is there some other gem I can use? Or have I not set up the routing-filter gem properly? Thanks!

  I'm trying to create something similar to the diggbar : http://digg.com/http://cnn.com I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and Asp Development server. However, I can't get the ASP dev server to handle the request because it contains "http:" in the path. I've tried to create an HTTPModule to rewrite the URL in the BeginRequest , but the event handler doesn't get called when the url is http://localhost:5957/http://yahoo.com. The event handler does get called if the url is http://localhost:5957/http/yahoo.com To summarize http://localhost:5957/http/yahoo.com works http://localhost:5957/http//yahoo.com does not work http://localhost:5957/http://yahoo.com does not work http://localhost:5957/http:/yahoo.com does not work Any ideas?
