  • 3 tier application pattern suggestion

    - by Maxim Gershkovich
I have attempted to make my first 3 tier application. In the process I have run into one problem I am yet to find an optimal solution for. Basically all my objects use an IFillable interface which forces the implementation of a sub as follows Public Sub Fill(ByVal Datareader As Data.IDataReader) Implements IFillable.Fill This sub then expects the Ids from the datareader will be identical to the properties of the object as such. Me.m_StockID = Datareader.GetGuid(Datareader.GetOrdinal("StockID")) In the end I end up with a datalayer that looks something like this. Public Shared Function GetStockByID(ByVal ConnectionString As String, ByVal StockID As Guid) As Stock Dim res As New Stock Using sqlConn As New SqlConnection(ConnectionString) sqlConn.Open() res.Fill(StockDataLayer.GetStockByIDQuery(sqlConn, StockID)) End Using Return res End Function Mostly this pattern seems to make sense. However my problem is, lets say I want to implement a property for Stock called StockBarcodeList. Under the above mentioned pattern any way I implement this property I will need to pass a connectionstring to it which obviously breaks my attempt at layer separation. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to solve this problem or am I going about this the completely wrong way? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might improve my implementation? Please note however I am deliberately trying to avoid using the dataset in any form.

  • using gsub to modify output of xtable command

    - by stevejb
    Hello, my.mat <- cbind(1:5, rnorm(5), 6:10, rnorm(5)) colnames(my.mat) <- c("Turn", "Draw","Turn", "Draw") print(xtable(my.mat)) yields \begin{table}[ht] \begin{center} \begin{tabular}{rrrrr} \hline & Turn & Draw & Turn & Draw \\ \hline 1 & 1.00 & -0.72 & 6.00 & 0.91 \\ 2 & 2.00 & 0.57 & 7.00 & 0.56 \\ 3 & 3.00 & 1.08 & 8.00 & 0.55 \\ 4 & 4.00 & 0.95 & 9.00 & 0.46 \\ 5 & 5.00 & 1.94 & 10.00 & 1.06 \\ \hline \end{tabular} \end{center} \end{table} I want to filter out the \begin{table} and \end{table} lines. I can do this using gsub, but how to I get the results of print(xtable(... into a variable? Thanks for the help Stack Overflow R community!

  • Sinatra Title Slugs

    - by Ethan Turkeltaub
    I'm trying to create a slug helper in Sinatra. Here's the code (as seen here): helpers do def sluggify(title) accents = { ['á','à','â','ä','ã'] => 'a', ['Ã','Ä','Â','À'] => 'A', ['é','è','ê','ë'] => 'e', ['Ë','É','È','Ê'] => 'E', ['í','ì','î','ï'] => 'i', ['Î','Ì'] => 'I', ['ó','ò','ô','ö','õ'] => 'o', ['Õ','Ö','Ô','Ò','Ó'] => 'O', ['ú','ù','û','ü'] => 'u', ['Ú','Û','Ù','Ü'] => 'U', ['ç'] => 'c', ['Ç'] => 'C', ['ñ'] => 'n', ['Ñ'] => 'N' } accents.each do |ac,rep| ac.each do |s| title = title.gsub(s, rep) end end title = title.gsub(/[^a-zA-Z0-9 ]/,"") title = title.gsub(/[ ]+/," ") title = title.gsub(/ /,"-") title = title.downcase end end I keep getting this error: private method `gsub' called for nil:NilClass What exactly is going wrong?

  • Problem with Railscast #197 - Nested Model Form Part 2

    - by sscirrus
    I'm trying to implement Ryan's Railscast #197 in a system with Questions, Answers, and (multiple choice) Options. http://railscasts.com/episodes/197-nested-model-form-part-2. I have successfully implemented the nesting among these forms/partials. The simpler 'check box' way to delete records works properly. The problem occurs when I try to add/delete records. I have copied the code exactly as it appears in his Railscast: #new.html.erb <%= javascript_include_tag :defaults, :cache => true %> <% f.fields_for :in_options do |builder| %> <%= render "option_fields", :f => builder %> <% end %> #_option_fields.html.erb partial <%= f.hidden_field :_destroy %> <%= link_to_function "remove", "remove_fields(this)" %> #application_helper.rb (exact same as #197) def link_to_remove_fields(name, f) f.hidden_field(:_destroy) + link_to_function(name, "remove_fields(this)") end def link_to_add_fields(name, f, association) new_object = f.object.class.reflect_on_association(association).klass.new fields = f.fields_for(association, new_object, :child_index => "new_#{association}") do |builder| render(association.to_s.singularize + "_fields", :f => builder) end link_to_function(name, h("add_fields(this, \"#{association}\", \"#{escape_javascript(fields)}\")")) end #application.js (exact same as #197. I have an Event.addbehavior below this code.) function remove_fields(link) { $(link).previous("input[type=hidden]").value = "1"; $(link).up(".fields").hide(); } function add_fields(link, association, content) { var new_id = new Date().getTime(); var regexp = new RegExp("new_" + association, "g") $(link).up().insert({ before: content.replace(regexp, new_id) }); } 2 problems: When I click on the 'remove' link it doesn't remove - it just shifts the page up or down. When I include link_to_add_fields "Add Answer", f, :answers, I get undefined method `klass' for nil:NilClass. Thanks everyone.

  • Rack middleware deadlock

    - by Joel
I include this simple Rack Middleware in a Rails application: class Hello def initialize(app) @app = app end def call(env) [200, {"Content-Type" => "text/html"}, "Hello"] end end Plug it in inside environment.rb: ... Dir.glob("#{RAILS_ROOT}/lib/rack_middleware/*.rb").each do |file| require file end Rails::Initializer.run do |config| config.middleware.use Hello ... I'm using Rails 2.3.5, Webrick 1.3.1, ruby 1.8.7 When the application is started in production mode, everything works as expected - every request is intercepted by the Hello middleware, and "Hello" is returned. However, when run in development mode, the very first request works returning "Hello", but the next request hangs. Interrupting webrick while it is in the hung state yields this: ^C[2010-03-24 14:31:39] INFO going to shutdown ... deadlock 0xb6efbbc0: sleep:- - /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionpack-2.3.5/lib/action_controller/reloader.rb:31 deadlock 0xb7d1b1b0: sleep:J(0xb6efbbc0) (main) - /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:113 Exiting /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:113:in `join': Thread(0xb7d1b1b0): deadlock (fatal) from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:113:in `start' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:113:in `each' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:113:in `start' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:23:in `start' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:82:in `start' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rack-1.0.1/lib/rack/handler/webrick.rb:14:in `run' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/commands/server.rb:111 from /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from script/server:3 Something to do with the class reloader in development mode. There is also mention of deadlock in the exception. Any ideas what might be causing this? Any recommendations as to the best approach to debug this?

  • populating one checkedlistbox with another (checkedlistbox)

    - by 8thWonder
I am having difficulties populating a checkedlistbox (CLB) based on the selection(s) made in another. It should also be noted that I have a "Select All" checkbox at the top that checks/unchecks all of the items in the first CLB. Here's the code: Private Sub chkSelectAll_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles chkSelectAll.CheckedChanged For i As Integer = 0 To clb1.Items.Count - 1 clb1.SetItemChecked(i, chkSelectAll.Checked) Next End Sub Private Sub clb1_ItemCheck(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.ItemCheckEventArgs) Handles clb1.ItemCheck Dim i As Integer = clb1.SelectedIndex For j As Integer = 0 To al_2.Count - 1 If i = -1 Then For k As Integer = 0 To al_2.Count - 1 If Not clb2.Contains(al_2(k).sDate) Then clb2.Items.Add(al_2(k).sDate) Else : k += 1 End If Next ElseIf (e.NewValue = CheckState.Checked And al_2(j).sName = al_1(i)) Then clb2.Items.Add(al_2(j).sDate) ElseIf (e.NewValue = CheckState.Unchecked And al_2(j).sName = al_1(i)) Then clbProdBkups.Items.Remove(al_2(j).sDate) End If Next End Sub The first CLB is populated with an arraylist of values on the button click event. Based on whatever is checked in the first CLB, corresponding values from an arraylist of structures should fill the second CLB. The following code partially works until the "Select All" checkbox is clicked at which point one of two things happens: If other values have been selected before "Select All" is checked, the second CLB is filled with the correct number of corresponding values BUT only those of the most recently selected item of the first CLB instead of all of corresponding values of all of the items that were not already selected. When "Select All" is unchecked, the most recently incorrect values are removed, everything in CLB 1 is unchecked but the values in CLB 2 that were selected before "Select All" was checked remain. If "Select All" is checked before anything else is selected, I get an "unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'System.Windows.Forms.Control'" error that points to the following statement from the itemcheck event: If Not clb2.Contains(al_2(k).sDate) Then Any insights will be greatly appreciated. ~8th

  • MySQL table data transformation -- how can I dis-aggreate MySQL time data?

    - by lighthouse65
    We are coding for a MySQL data warehousing application that stores descriptive data (User ID, Work ID, Machine ID, Start and End Time columns in the first table below) associated with time and production quantity data (Output and Time columns in the first table below) upon which aggregate (SUM, COUNT, AVG) functions are applied. We now wish to dis-aggregate time data for another type of analysis. Our current data table design: +---------+---------+------------+---------------------+---------------------+--------+------+ | User ID | Work ID | Machine ID | Event Start Time | Event End Time | Output | Time | +---------+---------+------------+---------------------+---------------------+--------+------+ | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2008-01-24 16:19:15 | 2008-01-24 16:34:45 | 2120 | 930 | +---------+---------+------------+---------------------+---------------------+--------+------+ Reprocessing dis-aggregation that we would like to do would be to transform table content based on a granularity of minutes, rather than the current production event ("Event Start Time" and "Event End Time") granularity. The resulting reprocessing of existing table rows would look like: +---------+---------+------------+---------------------+--------+ | User ID | Work ID | Machine ID | Production Minute | Output | +---------+---------+------------+---------------------+--------+ | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:19 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:20 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:21 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:22 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:23 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:24 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:25 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:26 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:27 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:28 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:29 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:30 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:31 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:22 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:33 | 133 | | 080025 | ABC123 | M01 | 2010-01-24 16:34 | 133 | +---------+---------+------------+---------------------+--------+ So the reprocessing would take an existing row of data created at the granularity of production event and modify the granularity to minutes, eliminating redundant (Event End Time, Time) columns while doing so. It assumes a constant rate of production and divides output by the difference in minutes plus one to populate the new table's Output column. I know this can be done in code...but can it be done entirely in a MySQL insert statement (or otherwise entirely in MySQL)? I am thinking of a INSERT ... INTO construction but keep getting stuck. An additional complexity is that there are hundreds of machines to include in the operation so there will be multiple rows (one for each machine) for each minute of the day. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  • (Not So) Silly Objective-C inheritance problem when using property - GCC Bug?

    - by Ben Packard
Update 2 - Many people are insisting I need to declare an iVar for the property. Some are saying not so, as I am using Modern Runtime (64 bit). I can confirm that I have been successfully using @property without iVars for months now. Therefore, I think the 'correct' answer is an explanation as to why on 64bit I suddenly have to explicitly declare the iVar when (and only when) i'm going to access it from a child class. The only one I've seen so far is a possible GCC bug (thanks Yuji). Not so simple after all... Update - I messed up one line of the original copy and paste - corrected. The @property call was missing (nonatomic, retain) but is a red herring - STILL NEED AN ANSWER! Thanks. I've been scratching my head with this for a couple of hours - I haven't used inheritance much. Here I have set up a simple Test B class that inherits from Test A, where an ivar is declared. But I get the compilation error that the variable is undeclared. This only happens when I add the property and synthesize declarations - works fine without them. TestA Header: #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> @interface TestA : NSObject { NSString *testString; } @end TestA Implementation is empty: #import "TestA.h" @implementation TestA @end TestB Header: #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> #import "TestA.h" @interface TestB : TestA { } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *testProp; @end TestB Implementation (Error - 'testString' is undeclared) #import "TestB.h" @implementation TestB @synthesize testProp; - (void)testing{ NSLog(@"test ivar is %@", testString); } @end

  • Why does my iOS app crash when trying presentModalViewController?

    - by user555807
I've been banging my head against this all day, it seems like something simple but I can't figure it out. I've got an iOS app that I created using the "View-based Application" template in XCode. Here is essentially the code I have: AppDelegate.h: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface AppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { UIWindow *window; MainViewController *viewController; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet MainViewController *viewController; @end AppDelegate.m: #import "AppDelegate.h" #import "MainViewController.h" @implementation AppDelegate @synthesize window, viewController; - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { [self.window addSubview:viewController.view]; [self.window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } - (void)dealloc { [viewController release]; [window release]; [super dealloc]; } @end MainViewController.h: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface MainViewController : UIViewController { } -(IBAction) button:(id)sender; @end MainViewController.m: #import "MainViewController.h" #import "ModalViewController.h" @implementation MainViewController ... -(IBAction) button:(id)sender { ModalViewController *mvc = [[[ModalViewController alloc] initWithNibName:NSStringFromClass([ModalViewController class]) bundle:nil] autorelease]; [self presentModalViewController:mvc animated:YES]; } @end There's nothing of interest in the ModalViewController. So the modal view should display when the button is pressed. When I press the button, it hangs for a second then crashes back to the home screen with no error message. I am stumped, please show me what I'm doing wrong!

  • Custom Wordpress Post Page Breaks if More Thank 2 Posts?

    - by thatryan
I have a very custom template, and it works great if there are 1 or 2 posts on the blog page. But as soon as a 3rd post is added, it alters the structure of the template... Literally moves a div inside of another and I can not understand why. The code for the blog template is here, and a screenshot of the structure as it should be and another showing the misplaced div when a third post is there. Does this make any sense, any ideas? Thank you much! <div class="post" id="post-<?php the_ID(); ?>"><!--start post--> <h2><?php the_title(); ?></h2> <div id="main_full" class=" clearfix"><!--start main--> <div id="top_bar"><h3 class="gallery-title">news</h3></div> <div id="blog_page"><!--start blog page--> <div class="entry"><!--start entry--> <?php the_content(); ?> </div><!--end entry--> </div><!--end blog page--> </div><!--end main--> <?php endwhile; endif; ?> </div><!--end post--> <?php edit_post_link('Edit this entry.', '<p>', '</p>'); ?> <?php comments_template(); ?> Good One Bad One

  • How can I order by the result of a recursive SQL query

    - by Tony
    I have the following method I need to ORDER BY: def has_attachments? attachments.size > 0 || (!parent.nil? && parent.has_attachments?) end I have gotten this far: ORDER BY CASE WHEN attachments.size > 0 THEN 1 ELSE (CASE WHEN parent_id IS NULL THEN 0 ELSE (CASE message.parent ...what goes here ) END END END I may be looking at this wrong because I don't have experience with recursive SQL. Essentially I want to ORDER by whether a message or any of its parents has attachments. If it's attachment size is 0, I can stop and return a 1. If the message has an attachment size of 0, I now check to see if it has a parent. If it has no parent then there is no attachment, however if it does have a parent then I essentially have to do the same query case logic for the parent. UPDATE The table looks like this +---------------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +---------------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | message_type_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | | | | message_priority_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | | | | message_status_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | | | | message_subject_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | | | | from_user_id | int(11) | YES | MUL | NULL | | | parent_id | int(11) | YES | MUL | NULL | | | expires_at | datetime | YES | MUL | NULL | | | subject_other | varchar(255) | YES | | NULL | | | body | text | YES | | NULL | | | created_at | datetime | NO | MUL | | | | updated_at | datetime | NO | | | | | lock_version | int(11) | NO | | 0 | | +---------------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ Where the parent_id refers to the parent message, if it exists. Thanks!

  • What's wrong with this code to un-camel-case a string?

    - by omair iqbal
Here is my attempt to solve the About.com Delphi challenge to un-camel-case a string. unit challenge1; interface uses Windows, Messages, SysUtils, Variants, Classes, Graphics, Controls, Forms, Dialogs, StdCtrls; type check = 65..90; TForm1 = class(TForm) Edit1: TEdit; Button1: TButton; procedure Button1Click(Sender: TObject); private { Private declarations } public { Public declarations } end; var Form1: TForm1; var s1,s2 :string; int : integer; implementation {$R *.dfm} procedure TForm1.Button1Click(Sender: TObject); var i: Integer; checks : set of check; begin s1 := edit1.Text; for i := 1 to 20 do begin int :=ord(s1[i]) ; if int in checks then insert(' ',s1,i-1); end; showmessage(s1); end; end. check is a set that contains capital letters so basically whenever a capital letter is encountered the insert function adds space before its encountered (inside the s1 string), but my code does nothing. ShowMessage just shows text as it was entered in Edit1. What have I done wrong?

  • Ruby on Rails - Primary and Foreign key

    - by Eef
Hey, I am creating a site in Ruby on Rails, I have two models a User model and a Transaction model. These models both belong to an account so they both have a field called account_id I am trying to setup a association between them like so: class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :account has_many :transactions end class Transaction < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :account belongs_to :user end I am using these associations like so: user = User.find(1) transactions = user.transactions At the moment the application is trying to find the transactions with the user_id, here is the SQL it generates: Mysql::Error: Unknown column 'transactions.user_id' in 'where clause': SELECT * FROM `transactions` WHERE (`transactions`.user_id = 1) This is incorrect as I would like the find the transactions via the account_id, I have tried setting the associations like so: class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :account has_many :transactions, :primary_key => :account_id, :class_name => "Transaction" end class Transaction < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :account belongs_to :user, :foreign_key => :account_id, :class_name => "User" end This almost achieves what I am looking to do and generates the following SQL: Mysql::Error: Unknown column 'transactions.user_id' in 'where clause': SELECT * FROM `transactions` WHERE (`transactions`.user_id = 104) The number 104 is the correct account_id but it is still trying to query the transaction table for a user_id field. Could someone give me some advice on how I setup the associations to query the transaction table for the account_id instead of the user_id resulting in a SQL query like so: SELECT * FROM `transactions` WHERE (`transactions`.account_id = 104) Cheers Eef

  • ActiveRecord exceptions not rescued

    - by zoopzoop
I have the following code block: unless User.exist?(...) begin user = User.new(...) # Set more attributes of user user.save! rescue ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid, ActiveRecord::RecordNotUnique => e # Check if that user was created in the meantime user = User.exists?(...) raise e if user.nil? end end The reason is, as you can probably guess, that multiple processes might call this method at the same time to create the user (if it doesn't already exist), so while the first one enters the block and starts initializing a new user, setting the attributes and finally calling save!, the user might already be created. In that case I want to check again if the user exists and only raise the exception if it still doesn't (= if no other process has created it in the meantime). The problem is, that regularly ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid exceptions are raised from the save! and not rescued from the rescue block. Any ideas? EDIT: Alright, this is weird. I must be missing something. I refactored the code according to Simone's tip to look like this: unless User.find_by_email(...).present? # Here we know the user does not exist yet user = User.new(...) # Set more attributes of user unless user.save # User could not be saved for some reason, maybe created by another request? raise StandardError, "Could not create user for order #{self.id}." unless User.exists?(:email => ...) end end Now I got the following exception: ActiveRecord::RecordNotUnique: Mysql::DupEntry: Duplicate entry '[email protected]' for key 'index_users_on_email': INSERT INTO `users` ... thrown in the line where it says 'unless user.save'. How can that be? Rails thinks the user can be created because the email is unique but then the Mysql unique index prevents the insert? How likely is that? And how can it be avoided?

  • mysql and trigger usage question

    - by dhruvbird
I have a situation in which I don't want inserts to take place (the transaction should rollback) if a certain condition is met. I could write this logic in the application code, but say for some reason, it has to be written in MySQL itself (say clients written in different languages will be inserting into this MySQL InnoDB table) [that's a separate discussion]. Table definition: CREATE TABLE table1(x int NOT NULL); The trigger looks something like this: CREATE TRIGGER t1 BEFORE INSERT ON table1 FOR EACH ROW IF (condition) THEN NEW.x = NULL; END IF; END; I am guessing it could also be written as(untested): CREATE TRIGGER t1 BEFORE INSERT ON table1 FOR EACH ROW IF (condition) THEN ROLLBACK; END IF; END; But, this doesn't work: CREATE TRIGGER t1 BEFORE INSERT ON table1 ROLLBACK; You are guaranteed that: Your DB will always be MySQL Table type will always be InnoDB That NOT NULL column will always stay the way it is Question: Do you see anything objectionable in the 1st method?

The problem is, that when I put controls such as TMemo or TButton on the TPaper (which fills up nearly whole area), the controls do not load at all. see example below TPaper = class(TPanel) protected constructor Create(AOwner: TComponent);override; destructor Destroy;override; public procedure Paint; override; end; TPage = class(TCustomControl) private FPaper:TPaper; protected procedure CreateParams(var Params:TCreateParams); override; public constructor Create(AOwner: TComponent);override; destructor Destroy;override; published property Paper: TPaper read FPaper write FPaper; end; constructor TPage.Create(AOwner: TComponent); begin inherited Create(AOwner); PaperOrientation:=poPortrait; PaperSize:=psA4; PaperBrush:=TBrush.Create; PaperBrush.Color:=clWhite; PDFDocument:=Nil; FPaper:=TPaper.Create(Self); FPaper.Parent:=Self; FPaper.SetSubComponent(True); end; ... Memo1 is parented in TPaper (TPanel) at design-time, but after pressing "Run" it does not exist. procedure TForm1.btn1Click(Sender: TObject); begin if not Assigned(Memo1) then ShowMessage('I do not exist'); //Memo1 is nil end; Have you any idea what's wrong? Thanks a lot P.S Delphi 7 When I put TMemo inside TPaper and save the unit (Unit1), after inspection of associated dfm file, there is no trace of TMemo component. (Thats why it can not load to app.)

  • Query with many CASE statements - optimization

    - by Nemanja Vujacic
Hi guys, I have one very dirty query that per sure can be optimized because there are so many CASE statements in it! SELECT (CASE pa.KplusTable_Id WHEN 1 THEN sp.sp_id WHEN 2 THEN fw.fw_id WHEN 3 THEN s.sw_Id WHEN 4 THEN id.ia_id END) as Deal_Id, max(CASE pa.KplusTable_Id WHEN 1 THEN sp.Trans_Id WHEN 2 THEN fw.Trans_Id WHEN 3 THEN s.Trans_Id WHEN 4 THEN id.Trans_Id END) as TransId_CurrentMax INTO #MaxRazlicitOdNull FROM #PotencijalniAktuelni pa LEFT JOIN kplus_sp sp (nolock) on sp.sp_id=pa.Deal_Id AND pa.KplusTable_Id=1 LEFT JOIN kplus_fw fw (nolock) on fw.fw_id=pa.Deal_Id AND pa.KplusTable_Id=2 LEFT JOIN dev_sw s (nolock) on s.sw_Id=pa.Deal_Id AND pa.KplusTable_Id=3 LEFT JOIN kplus_ia id (nolock) on id.ia_id=pa.Deal_Id AND pa.KplusTable_Id=4 WHERE isnull(CASE pa.KplusTable_Id WHEN 1 THEN sp.BROJ_TIKETA WHEN 2 THEN fw.BROJ_TIKETA WHEN 3 THEN s.tiket WHEN 4 THEN id.BROJ_TIKETA END, '')<>'' GROUP BY CASE pa.KplusTable_Id WHEN 1 THEN sp.sp_id WHEN 2 THEN fw.fw_id WHEN 3 THEN s.sw_Id WHEN 4 THEN id.ia_id END Because I have same condition couple times, do you have idea how to optimize query, make it simpler and better. All suggestions are welcome! TnX in advance! Nemanja

  • What is the scope of TRANSACTION in Sql server

    - by Shantanu Gupta
I was creating a stored procedure and i got stuck in the writing methodology of me and my collegue. I am using SQL Server 2005 I was writing Stored procedure like this BEGIN TRAN BEGIN TRY INSERT INTO Tags.tblTopic (Topic, TopicCode, Description) VALUES(@Topic, @TopicCode, @Description) INSERT INTO Tags.tblSubjectTopic (SubjectId, TopicId) VALUES(@SubjectId, @@IDENTITY) COMMIT TRAN END TRY BEGIN CATCH DECLARE @Error VARCHAR(1000) SET @Error= 'ERROR NO : '+ERROR_NUMBER() + ', LINE NO : '+ ERROR_LINE() + ', ERROR MESSAGE : '+ERROR_MESSAGE() PRINT @Error ROLLBACK TRAN END CATCH And my collegue was writing it like the below one BEGIN TRY BEGIN TRAN INSERT INTO Tags.tblTopic (Topic, TopicCode, Description) VALUES(@Topic, @TopicCode, @Description) INSERT INTO Tags.tblSubjectTopic (SubjectId, TopicId) VALUES(@SubjectId, @@IDENTITY) COMMIT TRAN END TRY BEGIN CATCH DECLARE @Error VARCHAR(1000) SET @Error= 'ERROR NO : '+ERROR_NUMBER() + ', LINE NO : '+ ERROR_LINE() + ', ERROR MESSAGE : '+ERROR_MESSAGE() PRINT @Error ROLLBACK TRAN END CATCH Here the only difference that you will find is the position of writing Begin TRAN. According to me the methodology of my collegue should not work when an exception occurs i.e. Rollback should not get executed because TRAN does'nt have scope. But when i tried to run both the code, both was working in the same way. I am confused to know how does TRANSACTION works. Is it scope free or what ?

  • Rails nested models and data separation by scope

    - by jobrahms
I have Teacher, Student, and Parent models that all belong to User. This is so that a Teacher can create Students and Parents that can or cannot log into the app depending on the teacher's preference. Student and Parent both accept nested attributes for User so a Student and User object can be created in the same form. All four models also belong to Studio so I can do data separation by scope. The current studio is set in application_controller.rb by looking up the current subdomain. In my students controller (all of my controllers, actually) I'm using @studio.students.new instead of Student.new, etc, to scope the new student to the correct studio, and therefore the correct subdomain. However, the nested User does not pick up the studio from its parent - it gets set to nil. I was thinking that I could do something like params[:student][:user_attributes][:studio_id] = @student.studio.id in the controller, but that would require doing attr_accessible :studio_id in User, which would be bad. How can I make sure that the nested User picks up the same scope that the Student model gets when it's created? student.rb class Student < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :studio belongs_to :user, :dependent => :destroy attr_accessible :user_attributes accepts_nested_attributes_for :user, :reject_if => :all_blank end students_controller.rb def create @student = @studio.students.new @student.attributes = params[:student] if @student.save redirect_to @student, :notice => "Successfully created student." else render :action => 'new' end end user.rb class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :studio accepts_nested_attributes_for :studio attr_accessible :email, :password, :password_confirmation, :remember_me, :studio_attributes devise :invitable, :database_authenticatable, :recoverable, :rememberable, :trackable end

  • Is there a way to programmatically tell if particular block of memory was not freed by FastMM?

    - by Wodzu
I am trying to detect if a block of memory was not freed. Of course, the manager tells me that by dialog box or log file, but what if I would like to store results in a database? For example I would like to have in a database table a names of routines which allocated given blocks. After reading a documentation of FastMM I know that since version 4.98 we have a possibility to be notified by manager about memory allocations, frees and reallocations as they occur. For example OnDebugFreeMemFinish event is passing to us a PFullDebugBlockHeader which contains useful informations. There is one thing that PFullDebugBlockHeader is missing - the information if the given block was freed by the application. Unless OnDebugFreeMemFinish is called only for not freed blocks? This is which I do not know and would like to find out. The problem is that even hooking into OnDebugFreeMemFinish event I was unable to find out if the block was freed or not. Here is an example: program MemLeakTest; {$APPTYPE CONSOLE} uses FastMM4, ExceptionLog, SysUtils; procedure MemFreeEvent(APHeaderFreedBlock: PFullDebugBlockHeader; AResult: Integer); begin //This is executed at the end, but how should I know that this block should be freed //by application? Unless this is executed ONLY for not freed blocks. end; procedure Leak; var MyObject: TObject; begin MyObject := TObject.Create; end; begin OnDebugFreeMemFinish := MemFreeEvent; Leak; end. What I am missing is the callback like: procedure OnMemoryLeak(APointer: PFullDebugBlockHeader); After browsing the source of FastMM I saw that there is a procedure: procedure LogMemoryLeakOrAllocatedBlock(APointer: PFullDebugBlockHeader; IsALeak: Boolean); which could be overriden, but maybe there is an easier way?

  • Return type from DAL class (Sql ce, Linq to Sql)

    - by bretddog
Hi, Using VS2008 and Sql CE 3.5, and preferably Linq to Sql. I'm learning database, and unsure about DAL methods return types and how/where to map the data over to my business objects: I don't want direct UI binding. A business object class UserData, and a class UserDataList (Inherits List(Of UserData)), is represented in the database by the table "Users". I use SQL Compact and run SqlMetal which creates dbml/designer.vb file. This gives me a class with a TableAttribute: <Table()> _ Partial Public Class Users I'm unsure how to use this class. Should my business object know about this class, such that the DAL can return the type Users, or List(Of Users) ? So for example the "UserDataService Class" is a part of the DAL, and would have for example the functions GetAll and GetById. Will this be correct : ? Public Class UserDataService Public Function GetAll() As List(Of Users) Dim ctx As New MyDB(connection) Dim q As List(Of Users) = From n In ctx.Users Select n Return q End Function Public Function GetById(ByVal id As Integer) As Users Dim ctx As New MyDB(connection) Dim q As Users = (From n In ctx.Users Where n.UserID = id Select n).Single Return q End Function And then, would I perhaps have a method, say in the UserDataList class, like: Public Class UserDataList Inherits List(Of UserData) Public Sub LoadFromDatabase() Me.clear() Dim database as New UserDataService dim users as List(Of Users) users = database.GetAll() For each u in users dim newUser as new UserData newUser.Id = u.Id newUser.Name = u.Name Me.Add(newUser) Next End Sub End Class Is this a sensible approach? Would appreciate any suggestions/alternatives, as this is my first attempt on a database DAL. cheers!

  • Checking for nil in view in Ruby on Rails

    - by seaneshbaugh
I've been working with Rails for a while now and one thing I find myself constantly doing is checking to see if some attribute or object is nil in my view code before I display it. I'm starting to wonder if this is always the best idea. My rationale so far has been that since my application(s) rely on user input unexpected things can occur. If I've learned one thing from programming in general it's that users inputting things the programmer didn't think of is one of the biggest sources of run-time errors. By checking for nil values I'm hoping to sidestep that and have my views gracefully handle the problem. The thing is though I typically for various reasons have similar nil or invalid value checks in either my model or controller code. I wouldn't call it code duplication in the strictest sense, but it just doesn't seem very DRY. If I've already checked for nil objects in my controller is it okay if my view just assumes the object truly isn't nil? For attributes that can be nil that are displayed it makes sense to me to check every time, but for the objects themselves I'm not sure what is the best practice. Here's a simplified, but typical example of what I'm talking about: controller code def show @item = Item.find_by_id(params[:id]) @folders = Folder.find(:all, :order => 'display_order') if @item == nil or @item.folder == nil redirect_to(root_url) and return end end view code <% if @item != nil %> display the item's attributes here <% if @item.folder != nil %> <%= link_to @item.folder.name, folder_path(@item.folder) %> <% end %> <% else %> Oops! Looks like something went horribly wrong! <% end %> Is this a good idea or is it just silly?

  • Rails form with a better URL

    - by Sam
Wow, switching to REST is a different paradigm for sure and is mainly a headache right now. view <% form_tag (businesses_path, :method => "get") do %> <%= select_tag :business_category_id, options_for_select(@business_categories.collect {|bc| [bc.name, bc.id ]}.insert(0, ["All Containers", 0]), which_business_category(@business_category) ), { :onchange => "this.form.submit();"} %> <% end %> controller def index @business_categories = BusinessCategory.find(:all) if params[:business_category_id].to_i != 0 @business_category = BusinessCategory.find(params[:business_category_id]) @businesses = @business_category.businesses else @businesses = Business.all end respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @businesses } end end routes map.resources What I want to to is get a better URL than what this form is presenting which is the following: http://localhost:3000/businesses?business_category_id=1 Without REST I would have do something like http://localhost:3000/business/view/bbq bbq as permalink or I would have done http://localhost:300/business_categories/view/bbq and get the business that are associated with the category but I don't really know the best way of doing this. So the two questions are what is the best logic of finding a business by its categories using the latter form and number two how to get that in a pretty URL all through RESTful routes in Rails.
