• What does the caret operator in Python do?

  I ran across the caret operator in python today and trying it out, I got the following output: >>> 8^3 11 >>> 8^4 12 >>> 8^1 9 >>> 8^0 8 >>> 7^1 6 >>> 7^2 5 >>> 7^7 0 >>> 7^8 15 >>> 9^1 8 >>> 16^1 17 >>> 15^1 14 >>> It seems to be based on 8, so I'm guessing some sort of byte operation? I can't seem to find much about this searching sites other than it behaves oddly for floats, does anybody have a link to what this operator does or can you explain it here?

• Novell Netware 6 and C#

  Hi, I don't know if anyone has any expertise with Novell Netware or not, but I situation where one of my clients is getting a weird error trying to move a file to a netware share. The situation is pretty complicated but I'll try and outline it as best I can. 1) The application is running as a service 2) The file to be moved is a local file in an accessible location (to the service) 3) The file is being moved with FileInfo.MoveTo(). 4) The MoveTo is throwing an IOException and the message is "a device attached to the system is not functioning". I'm at a loss as to explain what might be happening. On a side note, it seems that running a small test program interactively using the same method (FileInfo.MoveTo) to the same location works fine so it seems to be associated with the service itself. • Why Html.DropDownListFor requires extra cast?

  In my controller I create a list of SelectListItems and store this in the ViewData. When I read the ViewData in my View it gives me an error about incorrect types. If I manually cast the types it works but seems like this should happen automatically. Can someone explain?   hey everyone. Lets assume i got 3 .flv files in a folder. How can i create a flashplayer which can read the amount of .flv files from that folder and play them. And if example, i add 2 more videos to that folder, the flashplayer will detect them too, and play them chronologically after the name, date, etc.. ?? just need some guide or maybe links which explain how to do this? tnx in advance.

• Infragistics Webgrid (Datagrid) dynamic adjusting columns

  I want to explain this as best as I can. I have a Webgrid with a certain amount of columns. What I want is for the columns to adjust to the size of the largest string within each column, where the total of all width of columns does not exceed the width of the webgrid. At the same time however if the width of all columns is less than the width of the webgrid I want each column to adjust proportionately so that the total of columns widths equal the width of the webgrid. Can anyone help me with this logic?

• iPhone GameKit Picker Fundamental Connection Issues

  Hello.. This is one of the more interesting things I've seen in iPhone development. The following question has nothing to do with code because I'm using an SDK Example from Apple (Tanks example). I have a 3GS iPhone, and a 3G iPhone both showing the GameKit picker screen. Both will eventually show the other phone in range just fine (It does take about 25 seconds, though). If I pick the 3G iPhone with my 3GS, the 3G will get a connection request and a connection can be made. However, it will ABSOLUTELY not work in the vice versa. Both phones have bluetooth switched on, and both phones are running the latest OS version. The simple fact is I'm using the SDK example, and it's just not working for the 3G trying to issue the connection. Is there any way to explain this extremely odd behavior? Thanks alot for reading!

  I was writing some program that uses the WM_CONCAT function. When I run this query: SELECT WM_CONCAT(DISTINCT employee_id) FROM employee WHERE ROWNUM < 20; It works fine. When I try to compile the relatively same query in a package function or procedure, it produces this error: PL/SQL: ORA-30482: DISTINCT option not allowed for this function FUNCTION fetch_raw_data_by_range RETURN VARCHAR2 IS v_some_string VARCHAR2(32000); BEGIN SELECT WM_CONCAT(DISTINCT employee_id) INTO v_some_string FROM employee WHERE ROWNUM < 20; RETURN v_some_string; END; I realize WM_CONCAT is not officially supported, but can someone explain why it would work as a stand alone query with DISTINCT, but not compile in a package?

• Can't get SubSonic insert to work

  I'm trying to insert a record into a table without using the SubSonic object in a VB.Net Windows app. (It will take too long to explain why.) Dim q As New SubSonic.Query("tablename") q.QueryType = SubSonic.QueryType.Insert q.AddUpdateSetting("Description", txtDescription.Text) q.Execute() This just updates all the rows in the table. I read in one post that instead of AddUpdateSetting, I should use AddWhere, but that didn't make any sense to me. I don't need a where clause at all. Searching for all:QueryType.Insert at subsonicproject.com didn't return anything (which I thought was weird). Can anyone tell me how to fix this query? Thanks!

• glPushName + glPopName stack overflow and underflow

  Can anybody please explain me how to use glPushName and glPopName. I like to use them instead of glLoadName, but I laways get GL_STACK_OVERFLOW and GL_STACK_UNDERFLOW errors. (First, under then overflow). Example code would help me too. Thanks for any advice. Note #1: My Rendering/selection_rednering code consists of multiple glBegin(...)/glEnd() blocks, if this is any problem plus various Rotations and Transformations. Note #2: I know that GL selection / picking is deprecated, but I have to implement it within a Application which was developed a with OpenGL2.1 a while ago.

I'm trying to find a way to parse text/numbers from a screen grab in either C# or Java - whichever provides the easiest way, but preferably java. An example would be as follows. You have a website/document/application with a block of text. You can take a screenshot of the specific area which contains this text.   Hi all, Sorry if this has been answered before, but I am trying to make an application that will include the ability to scan barcodes on Android. I'm looking at using ZXing as the library, however, I want to embed the scanner in my application so that the user doesn't have to have the ZXing barcode scanner installed to use my application. From the description of ZXing, it sounds like this is possible. I've gotten as far as building ZXing, linking it into my project in Eclipse, then creating a new reader instance. However, I'm lost when it comes to starting the barcode reader and implementing the callbacks. IMO, this is when the documentation here gets hazy. If someone could explain how to use ZXing properly, that would be of great help. Cheers!

• Cocoa: getting a Table View cell to send action messages

  I'm really having trouble getting a Cocoa Table View cell to send action messages. At the most basic level, in IB there is an action assigned for the NSTextViewCell object, and after editing and pressing Return nothing happens. So I have an IBOutlet hooked up to the NSTextViewCell, and have been experimenting with NSActionCell messages to it. But the Table View seems to pretty much just ignore them. I've also tried subclassing NSTextViewCell, but the methods I'm seeing all look like they want to pass values to the object from somewhere, not return a value from inside the object to configure its behavior. I'm pretty new to programming and Cocoa -- can someone explain each thing that needs to be overridden and how and where to do it?

To generate those operators for T, one inherits from boost::operators<T> as shown by the boost example: class MyInt : boost::operators<MyInt> I am familiar with the CRTP pattern, but I fail to see how it works here. Specifically, I am not really inheriting any facilities since the operators aren't members. boost::operators seems to be completely empty, but I'm not very good at reading boost source code. Since I'm new to real-life programming (I've only learned to write codes on AP Computer Science A level), I don't know how I can apply the concepts I learned from APCS A to this task. A friend of mine who is studying computer science at graduate school told me to "look up the cd player control functions and add methods in those classes to read in data that you want to write to the CD, write it to a buffer, write everything in the buffer to the CD itself, clear the buffer and then write a new chunk of data into the buffer," but I can't quite grasp what this means, and tt's really hard to contact her right now because she's busy working on her dissertation.   I have a web service which runs with a HttpHandler class. In this class, I inspect the request stream for form / query string parameters. In some circumstances, it seemed as though these parameters weren't getting through. After a bit of digging around, I came across some behaviour I don't quite understand. See below: // The request contains 'a=1&b=2&c=3' // TEST ONLY: Read the entire request string contents; using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(context.Request.InputStream)) { contents = sr.ReadToEnd(); } // Here 'contents' is usually correct - containing 'a=1&b=2&c=3'. Sometimes it is empty. string a = context.Request["a"]; // Here, a = null, regardless of whether the 'contents' variable above is correct Can anyone explain to me why this might be happening? I'm using a .NET WebClient and UploadDataAsync to perform the request on the client if that makes any difference. If you need any more information, please let me know.
