• Permit Communicator to display an web site with an ActiveX control in Vista or Windows 7

  I have a UCMA service that sends a URL to load in a communicator extensibility tab as mentioned here: http://blogs.claritycon.com/blogs/michael_greenlee/archive/2009/02/19/context-windows-in-communicator-using-ucma-v2-0.aspx http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ucclientsdk/thread/4406e412-01f1-466f-a593-3b83652dcdb1 This works fine with Office Communicator 2007 R2 for most trusted links, and on Windows XP and 2003 it works fine with a page with an ActiveX control. However, the ActiveX content is not displayed in Vista or Window 7. I've tried relaxing the security settings to no avail. Any suggestions or guidance would be much appreciated.

• Seam Equivalent of Spring PersistenceUnitPostProcessor

  We have a very comfortable setup using JPA through Spring/Hibernate, where we attach a PersistenceUnitPostProcessor to our entity manager factory, and this post processor takes a list of project names, scans the classpath for jars that contain that name, and adds those jar files for scanning for entities to the persistence unit, this is much more convenient than specifying in persistence.xml since it can take partial names and we added facilities for detecting the different classpath configurations when we are running in a war, a unit test, an ear, etc. Now, we are trying to replace Spring with Seam, and I cant find a facility to accomplish the same hooking mechanism. One Solution is to try and hook Seam through Spring, but this solution has other short-comings on our environment. So my question is: Can someone point me to such a facility in Seam if exists, or at least where in the code I should be looking if I am planning to patch Seam? Thanks.

• Command-line access for Apple Time Machine?

  We use Apple's Time Machine to back up our workstations at the office. If I want to restore a file, I need to open up the Time Machine GUI and browse files there. The GUI is ugly eye-candy and gets in my way. Is there a way to browse the Time Machine archive using the Mac's command-line? I'm used to Netapps and other storage appliances. I use backintime for my Ubuntu workstation. To restore a file with one of those systems, you can restore a file with a simple command like: cp .snapshot/daily.0/filename.txt . or cp /backup/backintime/20100611-000002/backup/etc/shadow /etc/shadow Is there an equivalent for Apple's Time Machine?

• Installing Hudson remotely?

  I'm trying to install Hudson on a server. The article here says to just do java -jar hudson.war and it should install to the server. This is pretty straightforward to do on a local computer, but I want to do it on a remote website host that I manage via cPanel. So how on earth do I do this? I really am a newb when it comes to this sort of thing... Also, obviously I require the JRE to do this. How do you install the JRE on a remote website host via cPanel? I don't even know where to get started... Thanks.

• Eclipse debugging "source not found"

  I just started using Eclipse so go easy on me ;). But when trying to debug a JUnit test case I get a dialog that states the the source is not found when I get to this line in the code in my test method: Assert.assertEquals(1, contents.size()); I know I should probably go and try and download the source from somewhere, but I really don't want to because I have no interest in stepping into the JUnit code. I have the JUnit runtime jar so Why does Eclipse expect me to have all the referenced tools source code in order to debug my own code (seems somewhat silly)? My main question is though, how can I tell Eclipse to skip this dialog when the source is not available and allow me to continue to debug my own code? [Edit] I've isolated the cause of this. It seems that Eclipse seems to think it needs the source when an exception is thrown by the internal JUnit code. In general is there anyway to tell it that it doesn't and just have it throw up an error dialog of some kind instead?

  I'm using Audiveris API to generate xml(MusicXML) file once the sheetmusic(e.g. pdf/img file) is being input (i.e. When I give the sheet music (pdf file) location, to generate the xml file out of it (in another location)). Audiveris has its own GUI to do this. But can I do this process of sheetmusic-to-xml without using their GUI, but only from the CLI? If so how may I approach it? And also if so - is there a possibility to make it work in CLI - using Java code (say to invoke steps for API to occur in the CLI using Java Code)? I managed to open the GUI by opening the jar file from CLI. But I need to know whether there's a possibility to carry out the sheetmusic(say pdf)-to-xml process without using their GUI, but only through CLI? • What would you use for deployment scripts in Java?

  Hi, I'm working on a Java web project that uses Maven to build its artifacts. At the end of the Maven build we have a few jar and war files that we need to deploy onto our development/testing environment. Right now we're using a pretty hefty Ant script that performs several tasks (on both Windows/Linux machines) Starts/Stops services Copies/deletes files Builds some stuff and then executes it Etc Ant does the job well - but the script is quickly getting very large, and to be honest, it feels inadequate for the task at hand. Are there other alternatives? I've heard of gant, but I'm not sure that's the right way to go. Thanks for helping!

  A co-worker on IntelliJ IDEA (working on another project) showed me the amazing @NotNull annotation. I've read messages here on SO about how starting to add @NotNull everywhere saved lots of time and headaches (and IntelliJ 10 can even add automatically @NotNull to old code when it detects that null would break havoc). Since I read my first "Probable @NotNull violation" message (in real-time, in the IDE, even on a partial .java file that doesn't compile yet) my jaw dropped and I got hooked. So I was wondering: is there anything that needs to be known if we want to start using @NotNull in a project where developers are using both Eclipse and IntelliJ? I know IntelliJ ships with the annotations.jar. Is this compatible with Eclipse?

• Hiding Files in Windows

  Hello, Currently, I'm developing a system which will extract some files from an SFX archive (files that will be used for another app). I want to make the extracted files hidden, so the person which has find the location of the exe couldn't get the files which will be in same directory with the exe. I know i can apply attrib +h to the files but if the user turns on "show hidden and system files" option in Windows, the files will be visible. Isn't there any method to overcome this? • With Maven, how would I prevent Maven from filtering certain properties but allowing others?

  The problem is that I'm trying to build a project that has in its resources a build.xml file. Basically, I package my project as a jar with Maven2, and then use ant installer to install my project. There is a property in the build.xml file that I need to filter called build.date, but there are other properties that I don't want to filter, like ${basedir}, because it's used by the ant installer but gets replaced by Maven's basedir variable. So, I need to somehow tell Maven to filter ${build.date}, but not ${basedir}. I tried creating a properties file as a filter with "basedir=${basedir}" as one of the properties, but I get the following error: Resolving expression: '${basedir}': Detected the following recursive expression cycle: [basedir] Any suggestions would be much appreciated.   I just got my new computer with a much bigger harddisk. I think I copied all important files over but just to be sure, I'd like to keep a disk image of my old disk. To save space, I'd like to compress it but I didn't find an option to mount a compressed image. My goals: Result must be easy to access No need to decompress the whole thing before I can access anything Files should be quick to locate - no TAR/CPIO archive Necessary space should be less than just copying the files over So ideally, I'm looking for a read-only, compressed file system which I can create in a file and which grows automatically.

Both the servlet and gwt projects have war packaging but I want to have only one war file so I changed the packaging of the gwt project to jar and included it in my servlet project. Now I have a problem understanding how to wire everything together. Do I need to migrate gwt project's web.xml into the main project web.xml file ? • Moving folders take long in windows 7

  What can i do to fix this? maybe drop permission properties? maybe not. I have a large folder with 100k files. I moved it into my archive folder and its taking forever to move. Why is that? I know on XP it takes <1sec but not on windows 7. I am sure its a permission thing, is there a way i can disable it and make it faster?

• Compile error in java application using netbeans - linked project

  I have a project which has shared functionality between three other projects and have linked these to existing projects as I normally would using the add project functionality of the libraries folder. This all used to work however when I started up Netbeans yesterday it just wasn't working as in the other projects won't compile even though the projects are linked. It can recognise the packages - just the actual classes themselves were not recognised. I have checked the dist folder of the shared project and the Shared.jar file exists. Any suggestions?

• Java session facade not being found via InitialContext lookups

  I have a project that is Java EE 5 running on Glassfish. The IDE is Netbeans 6.7.1. We periodically have a very annoying problem with new session facades not being located via InitialContext: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: No object bound to name java:comp/env/GlobalConfigEntityFacadeLocal In my class (within the same EJB container), I can use the other session facades just fine. This sort of problem happens periodically, and a mixture of clean&build and deleting the build-impl.xml files from nbproject sometimes resolve this. • How do I run JUnit tests from inside my java application?

  Is it possible to run JUnit tests from inside my java application? Are there test frameworks I can use (such as JUnit.jar?), or am I force to find the test files, invoke the methods and track the exceptions myself? The reason why I am asking is my application requires a lot of work to start launch (lots of dependencies and configurations, etc) and using an external testing tool (like JUnit Ant task) would require a lot of work to set up. It is easier to start the application and then inside the application run my tests. Is there an easy test framework that runs tests and output results from inside a java application or am I forced to write my own framework?

This is my approach: Generate pojo classes from my sybase database using hibernate in eclipse Use these pojo classes to generate the schema in mysql database Then somehow migrate the data from sybase to mysql I guess this approach should work???
