  • rails backgroundjob running jobs in parallel?

    I'm very happy with By so far, only I have this one issue: When one process takes 1 or 2 hours to complete, all other jobs in the queue seem to wait for that one job to finish. Worse still is when uploading to a server which time's out regularly. My question: is Bj running jobs in parallel or one after another? Thank you, Damir

  • Using Hadoop, are my reducers guaranteed to get all the records with the same key?

    I'm running a hadoop job (using hive actually) which is supposed to uniq lines in a lot of text file. More specifically it chooses the most recently timestamped record for each key in the reduce step. Does hadoop guarantee that every record with the same key, output by the map step, will go to a single reducer, even if there are many reducers running across a cluster? I'm worried that the mapper output might be split after the shuffle happens, in the middle of a set of records with the same key.

  • How to know about results of work with COM component?

    I suppose this question is more general than working with COM components. I have a .NET client written in C# and COM component written in pure Win32 API. Client side uses this component to perform some actions. How to know on the client that component did its job? I think it may be socket/pipe, with component writing to it about results, and client reading from it displaying progress to the user. What is the best way to do this?

    I want to ignore all directories "_notes" throughout a repository. _notes is generated by dreamweaver and is not part of the project itself, but these directories are scattered throughout the project. Somehow ^_notes$ is not doing the job in .hgignore ... Do I have to direct .hgignore to each and every directory "_notes" or does it do it recursively? I am not quite sure about the man pages

    Background Job gets mentioned a lot but all the tutorials I've seen seem to indicate that its for queuing jobs which are created by some external event such as a user clicking "Send mail". But what about when you have code that needs to scheduled to run every 30 seconds to listen for new messages from twitter? Normally rake is recommended for set in stone schedules but it inst so efficient for frequent jobs as it has to to load the entire rails app each time. Can anyone recommend anything for this situation?

    I need a python script that will do the following: connect to a URL, and that URL will return a number like 1200. Use the number, to download xml files named: 1 to x where x is the number from #1. store the files in a particular directory.     Delphi 2011 will allow to compile applications that will run also on MacOS. Is it realistical to think that it will be possible to "migrate to cross platform" a win32 application? Will 3rd party component vendors make their library cross platform or this is practically not possible?     The question gives all necessary data: what is an efficient algorithm to generate a sequence of K non-repeating integers within a given interval. The trivial algorithm (generating random numbers and, before adding them to the sequence, looking them up to see if they were already there) is very expensive if K is large and near enough to N. The algorithm provided here seems more complicated than necessary, and requires some implementation. I've just found another algorithm that seems to do the job fine, as long as you know all the relevant parameters, in a single pass.

  • C#: Drag & Drop with right mouse button

    Hello, I'd like to do Drag & Drop with the right mouse button instead with the left one. However calling DragDrop.DoDragDrop() from MouseRightButtonDown instead of MouseLeftButtonDown doesn't do the job - DragDrop.DoDragDrop looks for mouse movements while holding down the left mouse button. Any idea how to realise Drag & Drop using the right mouse button? Thanks for any hint!

  • Using FFmpeg or wrapper to get mp3 from mp4 in C#

    I'm trying to extract an mp3 from a flash compatible mp4 file and have so far found FFMpeg and a bunch of different wrappers that all claim to be able to do the job. Ideally, I'd like to not have to rely on shelling to the FFMpeg exe, but none of the wrappers I've tried seem to work.... Has anyone got any code or advice for how to go about this? Thanks!
