  Hi, I am developing a web page in which a rad grid displays the list of exams. I included a template column which shows count down timer when the exam is going to expire. • What else I must do allow my method to handle any type of objects

  So to allow any type object I must use generics in my code. I have rewrote this method to do so, but then when I create an object, for example Milk, it won't let me pass it to my method. Ether there's something wrong with my generic revision, or Milk object I created is not good. How should I pass my object correctly and add it to linked list? The className its applied to the table. Please notice, that the problem I have its checking the last row and only one element of the row has to have some text in it. (e.g. each row has 5 textboxes at least one textbox need to have some text inside in order to be able to add another row, otherwise, the alert comes up). Any help would be apreciated. Thanks

• synchronizing reads to a java collection

  so i want to have an arraylist that stores a series of stock quotes. but i keep track of bid price, ask price and last price for each. of course at any time, the bid ask or last of a given stock can change. i have one thread that updates the prices and one that reads them. i want to make sure that when reading no other thread is updating a price. so i looked at synchronized collection. but that seems to only prevent reading while another thread is adding or deleting an entry to the arraylist. so now i'm onto the wrapper approach: public class Qte_List { private final ArrayList<Qte> the_list; public void UpdateBid(String p_sym, double p_bid){ synchronized (the_list){ Qte q = Qte.FindBySym(the_list, p_sym); q.bid=p_bid;} } public double ReadBid(String p_sym){ synchronized (the_list){ Qte q = Qte.FindBySym(the_list, p_sym); return q.bid;} } so what i want to accomplish with this is only one thread can be doing anything - reading or updating an the_list's contents - at one time. am i approach this right? thanks.

The form triggers an RJS function, so I need to keep the helpers' onclick events intact. The RJS returns/reloads the same forms along with two new texts. I'm really confused. • An array with values 4 days apart

  I have a piece of code that generates soccer/football fixtures. The idea is that for every round of fixtures, the date will be 4 days further than the last round. So round one will be 3rd may, round two will be 7th may, round three 11th may, etc. I am not sure how to do this? The code that currently makes the fixtures are as follows: $totalRounds = $teams - 1; $matchesPerRound = $teams / 2; $rounds = array(); for ($i = 0; $i < $totalRounds; $i++) { $rounds[$i] = array(); } for ($round = 0; $round < $totalRounds; $round++) { for ($match = 0; $match < $matchesPerRound; $match++) { $home = ($round + $match) % ($teams - 1); $away = ($teams - 1 - $match + $round) % ($teams - 1); // Last team stays in the same place while the others // rotate around it. if ($match == 0) { $away = $teams - 1; } $rounds[$round][$match] = "$user[$home]~$team[$home]@$user[$away]~$team[$away]"; } } The teams would be the total users in the league. • Testing for a closed socket

  I'm trying to test for a closed socket that has been gracefully closed by the peer without incurring the latency hit of a double send to induce a SIGPIPE. One of the assumptions here is that the socket if closed was gracefully closed by the peer immediately after it's last write / send. Actual errors like a premature close are dealt with else where in the code. If the socket is still open, there will be 0 or more bytes data which I don't actually want to pull out of the socket buffer yet. I was thinking that I could call int ret = recv(sockfd, buf, 1, MSG_DONTWAIT | MSG_PEEK); to determine if the socket is still connected. If it's connected but there's no data in the buffer I'll get a return of -1 with errno == EAGAIN and return the sockfd for reuse. If it's been gracefully closed by the peer I'll get ret == 0 and open a new connection. I've tested this and it seems to work. However, I suspect there is a small window between when I recv the last bit of my data and when the peer FIN arrives in which I could get a false-positive EAGAIN from my test recv. Is this going to bite me, or is there a better way of doing this?

  Hi, I am looking for a simple solution to the following problem: I am using a simple TextBox control with the Text property bound to a property in the code behind. Additionally I am using a validation rule to notify the user of malformed input. ... error display style here ... Now after entering valid data into the TextBox the user can hit a button to send the data. When clicking the button the data from the bound property UserName in the code behind is evaluated and sent. The problem is that a user can enter valid data into the TextBox and this will be set in the property UserName. If the user then decides to change the text in the TextBox and the data becomes invalid, the setter of the property UserName is not called after the failed validation. This means that the last valid data remains in the property UserName, while the TextBox display the invalid data with the error indicator. If the user then clicks on the button to send the data, the last valid data will be sent instead of the current TextBox content. I know I could deactivate the button if the data is invalid and in fact I do, but the method is called in the setter of UserName. And if that is not called after a failed validation the button stays enabled. So the question is: How do I enable calling of the property setter after a failed validation?

Where does the str come from that causes the Exception? (I do know that I can use StringIO.StringIO() instead, but I'm wondering what's wrong with io.StringIO() in this scenario)

• Grep without storing search to the "/ register in Vim

  In my .vimrc I have a mapping that makes a line of text 'title capitalized': noremap <Leader>at :s/\v<(.)(\w{2,})/\u\1\L\2/g<CR> However, whenever I run this function, it highlights every word that is at least three characters long in my entire document. Of course I could get this behaviour to stop simply by appending :nohlsearch<CR> to the end of the mapping, but this is more of an awkward hack that still avoids a bigger problem: The last search has been replaced by \v<(.)(\w{2,}). Is there any way to use the search commands in Vim without storing the last search in the "/ register; a 'silent' search of sorts? That way, after running this title-making command, I can still use my previous search to navigate the document using n, N, etc. Edit Using @brettanomyces' answer, I found that simply setting the mapping: noremap <Leader>at :call setline(line('.'),substitute(getline('.'), '\v<(.)(\w{2,})', '\u\1\L\2', 'g'))<CR> will successfully perform the substitution without storing the searched text into the / register.

  In a portion of a program I'm working on, I need to count all the times each person has worked on projects with each other person. Let's say we have "Employee" entities and "Session" entities. In each session, there are four project types, "A", "B", "C", & "D", each a many-to-many relationship to Employees. I'm making a loop to systematically review every person a selected person has worked with. First, I put all their project types in a single array, so it's easier to loop through, but by the time I ask the last nested Project for its Employee members, I get an "unrecognized selector" error. • jCarousel jQuery ajax loading 1000 records

  I'm using jCarousel to present a vertical scolling list of +-1000 names. I am using ajax to load the data 100 records at a time then when all the data has loaded I just let the jCarousel loop in the DOM. • Strange mod_rewrite problem; Website works partially

  I have Ubuntu 9.10 Server... I need to get mod_rewrite working... the mod_rewrite module IS LOADED. On my server, the httpd.conf is empty, instead everything (almost) is in a file called apache2.conf. Anyways, I have also read I have to change the AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All in some file... My httpd.conf is empty as you know, but I have a folder called sites-enabled which contains a 000-default file. This is where I have set: AllowOverride All Now my goal as I stated in the last Q is to turn this link: http://mydomain.com/ad.php?ad_id=Bmw_nice_M3_497379462 into this: http://mydomain.com/Bmw_nice_M3_497379462 So as I got an answer in the last Q i inserted this into the htaccess file: Options +FollowSymLinks Options +Indexes RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/ad\.php RewriteRule ^(.*)$ ad.php?ad_id=$1 [L] Now, this works (no fully) when entering the url manually in the adress bar, but my website isn't working now for some reason. It is like the website is locked down or something, and unless I change AllowOverride to None it will act like that. Any ideas why? Also another note, the links inside the rewritten url doesn't work properly (images are not shown, while some are shown)...

  In my little project here I have sorted a list in decending order, however, my goal is to sort it in this custom pattern. (largest - smallest - next largest - next smallest -)etc. In java I was able to do this like this... My goal is to do the same thing but in python, except backwards. • Jquery image slider window resize scaling issue

  Hi, I have created image gallery slider, the images of which scale with the window size. My problem is I can't seem to create the right formula to ensure that the slider is at the right position when the window is scaled. If I am at the first image and the slider 'left' offset is 0 then the scaling works fine and my offset is correct, however when I am on image two and my slider is offset by say -1500 and then the window is resized, the slider is then at the wrong offset. Taking this into account I figured I could just add / subtract the new window size difference from the slider offset and therefore have everything in the right position. I was wrong. It works for the first two images but then If I am at the end of my slider on the last image I get a nice big gap between the end of the last image and the border of the page. Can someone please show my where I am going wrong please? • Ways to prevent multiple email notification with php&mysql

  My 1st post, but i got many great answers and tips from stackoverflow so far. This one was a close call- How does facebook, gmail send the real time notification? but not exactly, so let brainstorm this together. I have CMS system with mail notification when a change is made on the site. Everything wotk very well but i want to prevent multiple notification if somene make another quick change to, let say, fix a typo. Using php mail(), obviously. I've tough of 2 ways, one simple, and one.... let just say, pretty heavy... cough. the 3rd one was inspired by Implementing Email Notification but really doesn't look appealing to me to send bunch of email at once. Use a timestamp to check if another change was made in the 'let say' last 5 minutes. Record the last change, and compare it to the new one. Could be usefull for backup at the same time since i'll have to save the change somewhere, but text can be long and making an sql search would be painfull. Wouldn't it? Use cron to send changes every x minutes... convince me if you ythink it is a suitable solution. Any ideas, comment or suggestion of your own?   I'm making a tool that does multiple things, and I'm onto the last feature for now: You type in a date and it tells you what day of the week it would be on that date. So I have two problems here: I can't use I can't use arguments, it doesn't like them On the last line, I can't use jTextArea2.setText(d0); because it doesn't like that either...   Hi all, I"m having some problems with Nhibernate and native sql. I've got an entity with alot of collections and I am doing an SQL Fulltext search on it. So when returning 100 or so entities, I dont want all collections be lazy loaded. In this case I thought I could use the DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer. var items = GetCurrentSession() .CreateSQLQuery(query) .AddEntity("spr", typeof(Customer)) .AddJoin("adr", "spr.addresses") .AddJoin("adrt", "adr.Type") .AddJoin("cty", "adr.City") .AddJoin("com", "spr.communicationItems") .AddJoin("comt", "com.Type") .SetResultTransformer(new DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer()) .List<Customer>(); Doing so an exception is thrown. This is because I try to list customers .List<Customer>() but the transformer returns only entities of the last join added. E.g. in the case above, the entity with alias "comt" is returned when doing .List() instead of .List(). If I would switch last join with the join alias "cty", then the transformer returns a list of cities only... Anyone knows how I can return a clean list of customers in this case?

• php parsing csv with ftell

  I have a 500mb csv file with over 500,000 lines, each with 80 fields. I am using fget to process the file line by line. $col1 = array(); while (($row = fgetcsv($handle, 1000, ",")) !== FALSE) { $col1[] = $row[0]; } Because of an execution time limit on the PHP file by my hosting provider (120 seconds), I can't process the whole file in one run. I tried using ftell() and fseek() to remember the last position for restart. The trouble is, sometimes the ftell() position is in the middle of a row, and resuming means missing the first half of the row. Is there an elegant way to know the last line successfully processed, and resume from the one after it? I realize I can do a simple counter, and then loop through to that point again, but that would produce diminishing returns on the rows I can process towards the end of the file. Is there something like ftell() and fseek() that would work in my case? Or a way to limit ftell() to return the pointer for the end of the previous line?

• Incorrect usage of UPDATE and ORDER BY

  I have written some code to update certain rows of a table with a decreasing sequence of numbers. To select the correct rows I have to JOIN two tables. The last row in the table needs to have a value of 0, the second last -1 and so on. To achieve this I use ORDER BY DESC. Unfortunately my code brings up the following error: Incorrect usage of UPDATE and ORDER BY My reading suggests that I can't use UPDATE, JOIN and ORDER BY together. I've read that maybe subqueries might help? I don't really have any idea how to change my code to do this.
