• Preventing multiple reporting of the same rule violation in FxCop -- What is Id?

  FxCop is currently reporting the same rule violation for a particular method -- it has two out parameters, because I want to return two values to the caller without creating a struct for it. I wonder if anonymous types would solve my problem, but I didn't know about them at the time I had written the method. Anyhow, I'm getting CheckId CA1021 reported once for each parameter. I've copied the SuppressMessage text from FxCop, and then realized that the Id for each message is different! To me, it seems like you only need the CheckId, so... what is the Id used for? I haven't been able to find information about it online. will the Id remain the same? I assume so, or SuppressMessage wouldn't work the way one would want it to is there a way to specify the SuppressMessage attribute so that it suppresses for all Ids?

I m having a ID column in that table. Now suppose after inserting this record the value of the ID corresponding to this record is 100. Now how this 100 value came to know? Does the previous value of ID ie 99 (Suppose) is stored somewhere in some variable/file in the ORM layer or before inserting this value a query was fired to know about the last inserted value or database is itself doing that or anything else???

I'm not great at Hibernate to be honest, prefer straight SQL but I must learn, but i can't see what it is that is wrong.....? Any suggestions?

  I've huge a table (a few billion rows) with a clustered index and two non-clustered indices. A BULK INSERT operation produces 112000 reads and only 383 writes (duration 19948ms). It's very confusing to me. Why do reads exceed writes? • MySQL INSERT data does not get stored in proper db, only temporary?

  I'm having trouble with MySQL or Python and can't seem to isolate the problem. INSERTs only seem to last the run of the script and are not stored in the database. I have this script: import MySQLdb db = MySQLdb.connect(host="localhost", user="user", passwd="password", db="example") dbcursor = db.cursor() dbcursor.execute("select * from tablename") temp = dbcursor.fetchall() print 'before: '+str(temp) dbcursor.execute('INSERT INTO tablename (data1, data2, data3) VALUES ("1", "a", "b")') dbcursor.execute("select * from tablename") temp = dbcursor.fetchall() print 'after: '+str(temp) The first time I run it I get the expected output: >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) The problem is that if I run it again, the before comes out empty when it should already have the entry in it and the after doesn't break (data 1 is primary key). >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) If I try running the insert command twice in the same script it will break ("Duplicate entry for PRIMARY KEY") Any idea what might be happening here?

  Hi. I have this code for window form application and I have been attempting to convert it to a Silverlight application but it does not work!. There is a Textbox and I attached KeyDown event handler to it. when the user press the arrow key ( left or right) while the focus on the textbox, it will write . or -. When it is window form i used e.KeyCode and Keys.Right and its works great but when it is silverlight I used e.Key and key.Right and the program doesn't work good because the arrows do the 2 functions moving and write ./-. How I can work this out in Silverlight?   I am storing activity entries in a MySQL table. The table has a date_created field of type timestamp and through PHP I insert the activity entries based on GMT: $timestamp = gmdate("Y-m-d H:i:s", time()); This works fine. On my client I am on GMT+2. If it is 16:00 here and I insert an entry, it is stored in MySQL as 14:00. This is as expected I guess. My Now I would like to get the number of activity entries from MySQL within the last hour. I'm using the following query: SELECT COUNT(id) as cnt FROM karmalog WHERE user_id = ' 89' AND event='IMG_UPD' AND date_created > DATE_SUB(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, INTERVAL 1 HOUR) This returns nothing, because CURRENT_TIMESTAMP uses the MySQL timezone settings, which is set to SYSTEM, which is set to GMT+2. I guess what I am looking for is a GMT_CURRENTTIMESTAMP in MySQL, is there such a thing?

The reason I thought is that I use equal sign to test the condition(dbo.t.a = duplicate.a AND dbo.t.b = duplicate.b), and NULLs cannot be compared use equal sign. So, in order to include rows that include NULLs in it in the last result, I have change the aforementioned query to WITH duplicate (a, b) AS ( SELECT a, b FROM dbo.t GROUP BY a, b HAVING count(*) > 1 ) SELECT dbo.t.a, dbo.t.b FROM dbo.t INNER JOIN duplicate ON (dbo.t.a = duplicate.a AND dbo.t.b = duplicate.b) OR (dbo.t.a IS NULL AND duplicate.a IS NULL AND dbo.t.b = duplicate.b) OR (dbo.t.b IS NULL AND duplicate.b IS NULL AND dbo.t.a = duplicate.a) OR (dbo.t.a IS NULL AND duplicate.a IS NULL AND dbo.t.b IS NULL AND duplicate.b IS NULL) And this query will give me the answer as I wanted: a b -------- -------- NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL a b a b a b c d c d c d c d Now my question is, as you can see, this query just include two columns, in order to include NULLs in the last result, you have to use many condition testing statements in the query. As the column number increasing, the condition testing statements you need in your query is increasing astonishingly. How can I solve this problem? Great thanks.

• Postgres : Post statement (or insert) asynchronous, non-blocking processing.

  I'm wondering if it is possible, that after a collection of rows is inserted, to initiate an operation that is executed asynchronously, is non-blocking, and doesn't need to inform the originator of the request - of the result. I am working with large amounts of events and I can guarantee that the post-insert logic will not fail -- I just want to have a single insert thread in my event-sources, and I want this thread to keep flying without blocking, and without being responsible for any post-delivery book-keeping. I can tell you that I would potentially have a 100 of these jobs executing concurrently and each job might operate on 5 tables with anywhere between 200-1000 inserts on each of these tables. A hint in the right direction should be enough.

• Stepping into Ruby Meta-Programming: Generating proxy methods for multiple internal methods

  Hi all; I've multiply heard Ruby touted for its super spectacular meta-programming capabilities, and I was wondering if anyone could help me get started with this problem. I have a class that works as an "archive" of sorts, with internal methods that process and output data based on an input. However, the items in the archive in the class itself are represented and processed with integers, for performance purposes. The actual items outside of the archive are known by their string representation, which is simply number_representation.to_s(36). Because of this, I have hooked up each internal method with a "proxy method" that converts the input into the integer form that the archive recognizes, runs the internal method, and converts the output (either a single other item, or a collection of them) back into strings. The naming convention is this: internal methods are represented by _method_name; their corresponding proxy method is represented by method_name, with no leading underscore. I'm not sure what would be done with the arguments, but is there a way to test for arguments of a method? If not, then simple duck typing/analogous concept would do as well.

• SSH from Windows hangs when using insert mode in vim on Dreamhost: Why?

  I have SSH set up using Cygwin on Windows XP SP3 to Dreamhost. It works fine except that when I edit a file with vi and use insert mode (eg press 'i' and type in some stuff). I then try and hit escape and ZZ to save/exit and it hangs instead. My edits aren't saved and I have to kill the session (locally) and kill the vi process on Dreamhost. This is highly annoying. It's not reliable either. Sometimes it does work. Also, this happens with PuTTY too.
