  I'm using a WPA2 EAP network. I'm sitting next to the access point. The connection keeps dropping and taking ~10 seconds to reconnect. My other devices are staying online. • YUI Uploader hangs after choosing file

  Below is my entire code from a User control that contains the YUI Uploader. Is there something I'm missing. Right now, when I step through the javascript code in Firebug, it hangs on the first line of the upload() function. I have a breakpoint on the first line of the ashx that handles the file, but it is never called. So, it doesn't get that far. I figure I'm just missing something stupid. I've used this control many times before with no issues. I'm using all the css files and graphics provided by the samples folder in the YUI download. If I'm not missing anything, is there a more comprehensive way of debuging this issue then through stepping through the javascript with FireBug. I've tried turning the logging for YUI on and off, and never get any logs anywhere. • How do I debug this javascript -- I don't get an error in Firebug but it's not working as expected.

  I installed the plugin better-edit-in-place (http://github.com/nakajima/better-edit-in-place) but I dont' seem to be able to make it work. The plugin creates javascript, and also automatically creates a rel and class. The expected behavior is to make an edit-in-place, but it currently is not. Nothing happens when I mouse over. When I use firebug, it is rendering the value to be edited correctly: <span rel="/emails/1" id="email_1_days" class="editable">7</span> And it is showing the full javascript which should work on class editable. • jQuery AutoComplete select firing after change?

  I'm using the jQuery UI AutoComplete control (just updated to jQuery UI 1.8.1). Whenever the user leaves the text box, I want to set the contents of the text box to a known-good value and set a hidden ID field for the value that was selected. Additionally, I want the page to post back when the contents of the text box are changed. Currently, I am implementing this by having the autocomplete select event set the hidden id and then a change event on the text box which sets the textbox value and, if necessary, causes a post back. If the user just uses the keyboard, this works perfectly. You can type, use the up and down arrows to select a value and then tab to exit. The select event fires, the id is set and then the change event fires and the page posts back. If the user starts typing and then uses the mouse to pick from the autocomplete options though, the change event fires (as focus shifts to the autocomplete menu?) and the page posts back before the select event has a chance to set the ID. • Management and Monitoring Tools for Windows Azure

  With such a large platform, Windows Azure has a lot of moving parts. We’ve done our best to keep the interface as simple as possible, while giving you the most control and visibility we can. However, as with most Microsoft products, there are multiple ways to do something – and I’ve always found that to be a good strength. Depending on the situation, I might want a graphical interface, a command-line interface, or just an API so I can incorporate the management into my own tools, or have third-party companies write other tools. While by no means exhaustive, I thought I might put together a quick list of a few tools you can use to manage and monitor Windows Azure components, from our IaaS, SaaS and PaaS offerings. Some of the products focus on one area more than another, but all are available today. I’ll try and maintain this list to keep it current, but make sure you check the date of this post’s update – if it’s more than six months old, it’s most likely out of date. Things move fast in the cloud. The Windows Azure Management Portal The primary tool for managing Windows Azure is our portal – most everything you need is there, from creating new services to querying a database. There are two versions as of this writing – a Silverlight client version, and a newer HTML5 version. The latter is being updated constantly to be in parity with the Silverlight client. There’s a balance in this portal between simplicity and power – we’re following the “less is more” approach, with increasing levels of detail as you work through the portal rather than overwhelming you with a single, long “more is more” page. It always make me fee like such a slacker collecting all of these notes as I see the tremendous output from people all over the world and it’s incredible and humbling. On another not, I’m going to take a minute to get on my soapbox and say, if you are developing ANYTHING and are not using some sort of source/revision control, START IMMEDIATELY. • QWidget keyPressEvent override

  Hi there, I'm trying for half an eternity now overriding QWidgets keyPressEvent function in QT but it just won't work. I've to say i am new to CPP, but I know ObjC and standard C. My problem looks like this: class QSGameBoard : public QWidget { Q_OBJECT public: QSGameBoard(QWidget *p, int w, int h, QGraphicsScene *s); signals: void keyCaught(QKeyEvent *e); protected: virtual void keyPressEvent(QKeyEvent *event); }; QSGameBoard is my QWidget subclass and i need to override the keyPressEvent and fire a SIGNAL on each event to notify some registered objects. My overridden keyPressEvent in QSGameBoard.cpp looks like this: void QSGameBoard::keyPressEvent(QKeyEvent *event) { printf("\nkey event in board: %i", event->key()); //emit keyCaught(event); } When i change QSGameBoard:: to QWidget:: it receives the events, but i cant emit the signal because the compiler complains about the scope. And if i write it like this the function doesn't get called at all. What's the problem here?

• Sync Framework: SqlSyncProvider ItemConflicting vs ApplyChangeFailed

  I'm trying to use design a syncronisation application that syncs changes between different SQL Server databases. I came up with a design based around receiving the ItemConflicting event, storing the knowledge associated with the conflict, and resolving all conflicts off-line. However, it seems that I can only get the ApplyChangeFailed event to fire. Is there some reason why SqlSyncProvider does not use the ItemConflicting event? Am I just hooking up to the event wrongly? The reason I care is that the ItemConlficting event allows me to simply log the conflict and continue with the rest of the synchronisation in a way that I can't seem to achieve with the ApplychangeFailed event.

  I have defined an Event class: Event and all the following classes inherit from Event: AEvent BEvent CEvent DEvent Now, with the info I gather from all these Event classes, I will make a chart. With AEvent and BEvent, I will generate points for that chart, while with CEvent and DEvent I will paint certain regions of the chart. Now, how should I signal this in my class hierarchy? Should I make AEvent and BEvent inherit from PointEvent while CEvent and DEvent inherit from RegionEvent, being that both RegionEvent and PointEvent inherit from Event? Should I add a field with an Enum to Event with 2 values, Point and Region, and each of the child classes set their value to it? Should I use some kind of pattern here? Which one? Thanks.

• Is 'second' a keyword in mysql full-text searches?

  I have a simple MySQL table that is setup for full text search. | id | title | ---------------------- | 1 | test event | | 2 | Second test | | 3 | Larry's event | | 4 | this second | When I use the query: SELECT * FROM EVENTS WHERE MATCH (title) AGAINST ('test event' IN BOOLEAN MODE); I get back 3 rows; the ones containing 'test event', 'Second test', and 'Larry's Event'. Now If I run the following query: SELECT * FROM EVENTS WHERE MATCH (title) AGAINST ('second' IN BOOLEAN MODE); Nothing is returned... strange? Lastly, if I run the query: SELECT * FROM EVENTS WHERE MATCH (title) AGAINST ('second test' IN BOOLEAN MODE); I get back 2 rows; the ones containing 'test event' and 'Second test'. I appears that the word 'second' cannot be searched or needs to be escaped somehow. Am I missing something?

  I have a sales call today in which the person that I am talking to is interested in what TFS would give them over Star Team, The first thing I believe that I can say is that TFS is cheaper! Especially if you are doing MSFT development already and your team members have MSDN subscriptions as the CALs for TFS are covered in the MSDN subscription. • iPhone: Tracking/Identifying individual touches

  I have a quick question regarding tracking touches on the iPhone and I seem to not be able to come to a conclusion on this, so any suggestions / ideas are greatly appreciated: I want to be able to track and identify touches on the iphone, ie. basically every touch has a starting position and a current/moved position. Touches are stored in a std::vector and they shall be removed from the container, once they ended. Their position shall be updated once they move, but I still want to keep track of where they initially started (gesture recognition). • Django Initial for a ManyToMany Field

• My first Windows Phone 7 application is live &ndash; from zero to submitted in 5 hours

  Tuesday evening I found myself minus family. I decided to use the time to “have a crack at this Silverlight Phone 7 stuff”. From zero (no experience, no tools installed, no membership on the AppHub) to submitted for approval took me from 8pm to 1am – with the last hour messing around with png files in Paint to complete the submission process! Two days later on Thursday it was approved and is now in the marketplace for you to install - or not :-) The application is very simple but it works and looks “finished” – and importantly I learnt a lot about what is involved and the power of our tooling to make this pretty easy to get going. Go on, give it a go by popping over to the App Hub. You do need to pay $99 to join the App Hub to publish but you can start by downloading the free tools and just work with the included emulator.
