• IIS7 or .Net 301 Redirects from 1 domain to another

  I have 2 domains. For the question, I will call them www.old.com and www.new.com. Both urls are pointing to the same IIS7 Site instance. I need to it up so that when someone goes to www.old.com they get a 301 redirect to www.new.com. The tricky part is I am using URL rewrites for pages within the site. So www.old.com/About.aspx redirects to www.new.com/About. To get that to work with IIS7 URL rewrite rules, it also means that www.new.com/About.aspx redirects to www.new.com/About. That is fine and is not a big deal. My issue is how do I redirect the main domain without losing the URL Rewrites from the sub pages? I don't care if I use a module within IIS7 or if I need to do it in .NET code.

• Drupal htaccess redirect - all files in directory to new directory

  Hiya, I've moved a site to Drupal, but am now getting a lot of 404 errors due to the search engines taking their time to update the indexes. The 404 paths all look similar to this: recipedata/ccp1300006/633_L.jpg recipedata/ccp1500005/risotto.jpg recipedata/ccp1500006/haddock.jpg So I'd like to do some htaccess redirection with mod_rewrite to take care of this lot. All the images DO exist - the path has just changed to /sites/default/files/images/ I've edited a lot of redirects into my htaccess already, but because the ccpXXXXXX directory changes I can't quite figure out the regex. This was my last attempt, but yeah - doesn't work :) Can anyone give me some pointers? • Pros and Cons of Java HTML to XML cleaners

  I am looking to allow HTML emails (and other HTML uploads) without letting in scripts and stuff. I plan to have a white list of safe tags and attributes as well as a whitelist of CSS tags and value regexes (to prevent automatic return receipt). I asked a question: Parse a badly formatted XML document (like an HTML file) I found there are many many ways to do this. Some systems have built in sanitizers (which I don't care so much about). I will post some answers and say Community Wiki. Please post any other options you like and say Community Wiki so they can be voted on. Also any comments or wiki edits on what part of a certain product is better and what is not would be greatly appreciated. • What's the big difference between those two binary files?

  These are two files (contained in the tar.bz2) that were generated using a just-in-time compiler for a game engine. The generated code from ui-linux.bin is from a x86_64 gcc compiler and the ui-windows.bin from the same brand of compiler but targetting win x86_64 (mingw-w64). I've attempted to debug a problem that occurs only on the windows version and i stumbled upon what it seems to be different end-binary code. However, the input assembly code was virtually identical (only difference being pointer representations as int). (there's theoretically no winabi/unixabi conflict since that's taken care of by an attribute flag on certain declarations involved). Any idea what it might be that makes these two binary codes different? The C for the mini-compiler and base assembly producing it appears compatible at first glance. http://www0.org/vm/bins.tar.bz2

  I'm having a problem with two functions and an if statement. I'm being told the functions go and postcodeChange are not defined. I'm also being told flag is an unexpected identifier at if flag == 1. Any idea where I am going wrong? • CFLAGS vs CPPFLAGS

  I understand that CFLAGS (or CXXFLAGS for C++) are for the compiler, whereas CPPFLAGS is used by the preprocessor. But I still don't understand the difference. I need to specify an include path for a header file that is included with #include -- because #include is a preprocessor directive, is the preprocessor (CPPFLAGS) the only thing I care about? Under what circumstances do I need to give the compiler an extra include path? In general, if the preprocessor finds and includes needed header files, why does it ever need to be told about extra include directories? What use is CFLAGS at all? (In my case, I actually found that BOTH of these allow me to compile my program, which adds to the confusion... I can use CFLAGS OR CPPFLAGS to accomplish my goal (in autoconf context at least). What gives?)

• Autocompletion in Eclipse for Roo project

  Hi guys, I've got a Roo project where I've made a couple of entities, and when I load up the project in Eclipse it loads up fine, but if I i.e. make an instance MyEntity entity and then write entity. I don't get any of my properties (i.e. getMyField) in the autocompletion list. If I write entity.getMyField() it compiles fine, that is taken care of by the aspects. How do I enable autocompletion for functions generated by the aspects? Cheers Nik

  Which problem can cause kill -9 in production application (in linux to be exact)? I have application which do some periodical work, stopping these takes long time, and I don't care if some jobs will be aborted - work can be finished by new processes. So can I use kill -9 just to stop it immediately or this can cause serious OS problems? For example, Unicorn, uses it as normal working procedure: When your application goes awry, a BOFH can just "kill -9" the runaway worker process without worrying about tearing all clients down, just one. But this article claims: The -9 (or KILL) argument to kill(1) should never be used on Unix systems

  I can access the value like this: NSNumber* rotationZ = [myLayer valueForKeyPath:@"transform.rotation.z"]; But for some reason, if I try to KV-observe that key path, I get a compiler error. First, this is how I try to do it: [myLayer addObserver:self forKeyPath:@"transform.rotation.z" options:0 context:nil]; The compiler tells me: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSUnknownKeyException', reason: '[ addObserver: forKeyPath:@"rotation.z" options:0x0 context:0x528890] was sent to an object that is not KVC-compliant for the "rotation" property.' what I don't get is, why I can access that z value by KVC key path, but not add an observer to it. Does this make sense? How else could I observe the z value of that matrix? I don't care about the other values of the matrix. Only the z rotation. Any other way to access and observe it?

• Is there a way to circumvent CA1726:UsePreferredTerms?

  I have a problem with the code analysis rule CA1726:UsePreferredTerms. Our business domain has two crucial concepts named Case and Flag. According to CA, it's apparently a deadly sin to use these names, however I really don't care since, as I said, they are crucial concepts in our domain model. CA complains not only about the type declarations but about every method parameter-name aswell. So does anyone know if there is a workaround other than adding loads of suppressions or disabling the rule altogether? Could I add the names to a custom dictionary?

  What's the recommended way to deploy a website created with ASP.NET 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010? I've previously always added a web setup project to my solution, and used that to create an MSI, even for small applications. But when I build a web setup project in VS2010 it kind of works but some stuff still seems broken: 1. I need to turn on IIS 6 Compatibility on a Win 2008 R2 box to get the msi to run. 2. The msi includes web.config, web.debug.config, and web.release.config. I thought VS's web.config transformations was supposed to take care of that. -Matt

  How can I query the read/write ratio in Sql Server 2005? Are there any caveats I should be aware of? Perhaps it can be found in a DMV query, a standard report, a custom report (i.e the Performance Dashboard), or examining a Sql Profiler trace. I'm not sure exactly. Why do I care? I'm taking time to improve the performance of my web app's data layer. It deals with millions of records and thousands of users. One of the points I'm examining is database concurrency. Sql Server uses pessimistic concurrency by default--good for a write-heavy app. If my app is read-heavy, I might switch it to optimistic concurrency (isolation level: read uncommitted snapshot) like Jeff Atwood did with StackOverflow.

• [C++]Advantage of using a static member function instead of an equivalent non-static member function

  I was wondering whether there's any advantages to using a static member function when there is a non-static equivalent. Will it result in faster execution (because of not having to care about all of the member variables), or maybe less use of memory (because of not being included in all instances)? Basically, the function I'm looking at is an utility function to rotate an integer array representing pixel colours an arbitrary number of degrees around an arbitrary centre point. It is placed in my abstract Bullet base class, since only the bullets will be using it and I didn't want the overhead of calling it in some utility class. It's a bit too long and used in every single derived bullet class, making it probably not a good idea to inline. How would you suggest I define this function? As a static member function of Bullet, of a non-static member function of Bullet, or maybe not as a member of Bullet but defined outside of the class in Bullet.h? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

• How do I Moq It.IsAny for an array in the setup of a method?

  I'm brand new to Moq (using v 4) and am struggling a little with the documentation. What I'm trying to do is to Moq a method that takes a byte array and returns an object. Something like: decoderMock.Setup(d => d.Decode(????).Returns(() => tagMock.Object); The ???? is where the byte[] should be, but I can't work out how to make it so that I don't care what's in the byte array, just return the mocked object I've already set up. Moq.It.IsAny expects a generic. Any help please?

• apple push notification review

  Hey all, I am implementing APN's and want to release without switching it on yet.. So the app will happily receive them. but we will choose not to send them until later. My question is, as when we want to send notifications is in our control, do apple care about this when reviewing the app. I thinking not, maybe they send a test notification to the device to prove it works? but if anyone has any experience in dealing with this any info would be much appreciated. • jsTree: Prevent before and after TYPE, only use inside

  I am using jsTree which is very nice. When dragging and dropping, I don't really care for the before and after types, I only want to use inside. Meaning, I am only concerned about that parent that a child is dropped into, rather than where the order is with other elements INSIDE the parent. So, I wanted to build my callback, so it always refers to the parent node that it is inside.   Spent some time searching, couldn't find exactly what I'm after. We like giving hands-on programming exercises as part of the interview process. The interviewee gets a laptop, with the editor and compiler of his choice. He or she then get a programming exercise and has about an hour to code it. Depending on the nature of the question, internet access is either allowed or forbidden. I'm looking for good general questions for a junior developer. I don't care what language they choose to program in. C++ is as good as Python or Scheme, as long as (s)he can program in it (this rules out "can you write a correct copy-constructor" style questions). I just want to see how they code, if their code is self-documenting, if they write tests, check edge-cases, etc. What kind of questions would you ask?

• Structuring System Architecture in a Flex Web Application on a Budget (w/o Java)

  I started a project a while back using the following architecture from Adobe Developer Article talking about Creating marketing platforms in Flex. I did my first set of coding locally forgetting that my server did not handle Tomcat. So I said okay, and cut some corners and then some other limitation came up and I cut some more corners. Eventually for a good week or two, it was trying to get the project working with making the ends meet. Layers started to merge. In the end I used a PureMVC (Presentation/Client) - ZendAMF (Communication) - MySql (Data) Layout. It worked but I never felt as though I had some layer just to take care of all the SQL calls to the data.It just felt hacked together So should I keep the above setup and just start from the presentation layer and move downwards like they said in the article or is there a better layering (based on a hosting plan that does not handle Java) I could accomplish ? NOTE: I would just ask the adobe guys but they barely reply on their site. Thanks !

• Passing single attributes to associated factories

  I'm looking for a way to pass fields into the factories of associated models without having to explicitly call the factory itself. For example, lets say I have some factories like so: Factory.define :person do |person| person.name "Default Bob" person.sex "M" person.house {|p| p.association(:house)} end Factory.define :house do |house| house.color "Red" house.has_ac true house.suburb {|h| h.association(:suburb)} end Factory.define :suburb do |suburb| suburb.name "Little boxes" end This is fine and all, but if I want to use factories to create someone in a specific house in a specific suburb I have do this: sub = Factory(:suburb, :name => "Blue town") house = Factory(:house, :color => "Blue", :suburb => sub) person = Factory(:person, :name => "Bill", :house => house) While this isn't bad in this small case, my actual models sometimes have 7 or 8 associations, and when I want to create an object whose associations I only care about a single attribute, the code for this starts to get really heavy. Is there somewhat I can pass attributes to nested Factories without having to recall the Factory itself?

• Developer oriented hardware benchmarks?

  Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places, but every hardware benchmark I've found, for nearly any component, is oriented towards gamers and/or workstations (video editing etc). Is there anyone doing benchmarks that are relevant to software developers? For example, take SSDs. I don't care how fast Crysis loads off an SSD -- that is completely worthless information. What I want to know is, which drive yields the quickest build times? What about Intellisense and refactoring operations? What RAID configuration has the biggest benefit? I could probably come up with more examples, but you get the point. Long story short, where are the benchmarks that tell me which hardware will be most effective in helping me be a productive software developer?

• Using Windows header files within Netbeans 6.8

  I'm trying to make an windows application within Netbeans. When using Visual studio it is no problem to use files like tchar.h I have receaved a basic file structure containing those and I'm trying to get them to work on Netbeans IDE but it seems that Netbeans won't allow using files from Visual Studio. I have tried to add the tchar.h file and all other file it required (including some C++ core files) and commenting the errors written in those care files: #error ERROR: Use of C runtime library internal header file. But netbenas can't find the tchar.h file while being in same folder...

• Winforms vs WPF

  I am a student and I do freelance here and there when I have opportunity. I believe my strongest language is C#. I don't really know what is going on in real programming world, so I was wondering if WPF did take over WinForms? I know the differences between two and how two can be used simultaneously but, I just don't want to invest my time in learning dying technologies, I hope you understand. So, for windows desktop programming what would you recommend to master WinForms, WPF or maybe both? I also get a lot that desktop programming is dead already and one should only care about learning web programming.

• Why doesn't GCC produce a warning when assigning a signed literal to an unsigned type?

  Several questions on this website reveal pitfalls when mixing signed and unsigned types and most compilers seem to do a good job about generating warnings of this type. However, GCC doesn't seem to care when assigning a signed constant to an unsigned type! Consider the following program: /* foo.c */ #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { unsigned int x=20, y=-30; if (x > y) { printf("%d > %d\n", x, y); } else { printf("%d <= %d\n", x, y); } return 0; } Compilation with GCC 4.2.1 as below produces no output on the console: gcc -Werror -Wall -Wextra -pedantic foo.c -o foo The resulting executable generates the following output: $ ./foo 20 <= -30 Is there some reason that GCC doesn't generate any warning or error message when assigning the signed value -30 to the unsigned integer variable y?
