• MySQL dual license behavior

  Hi SO, I'm running a commercial(closed source) Web App development for the first time. Initially I considered MySQL the most feasible option for a DB, until I get quite confused about its dual license behavior. If I want a commercial application do I still can use the GPL version of MySQL or I must get a license? The same question in a different way: If I use MySQL's GPL version does that force me to license the whole app under GPL? Either case I would go with PostgreSQL, I just want to make really really sure about this. Even in SO I've seen related("duplicates") questions but never a clear answer... All other tools I'm gonna use to code the project are licensed under BSD or MIT. Just in case, the role of MySQL in the project is merely as relational DB to store persistent data and query it. Try specifying the type arguments explicitly. I need to filter the first result by COLUMN_B, but I don't know how. Is there a way to filter it?

• Java - JDBC alternatives

  Hello, this is just teorethical question. I use JDBC with my Java applications for using database (select, insert, update, delete or whatever). I make "manually" Java classes which will contain data from DB tables (attribute = db column). Than I make querys (ResultSet) and fill those classes with data. I am not sure, if this is the right way. But I've read lot of about JDO and another persistence solutions. Can you please recommend some? Which are modern? Will be used in the future? Some advantages of JDO over JDBC (in simple words). I've been able to google lot of this stuff, but opinions from the "first hand" are always best. Thank you for responses, Mike

• Catching Oracle Errors in Django

  My Django app runs on an Oracle database. A few times a year, the database is unavailable because of a scheduled process or unplanned downtime. However, I can't see how to catch the error a give a useful message back to the requester. Instead, a 500 error is triggered, and I get an email (or hundreds) showing the exception. One example is: File "/opt/UDO/env/events/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/oracle/base.py", line 447, in _cursor self.connection = Database.connect(conn_string, **conn_params) DatabaseError: ORA-01035: ORACLE only available to users with RESTRICTED SESSION privilege I see a similar error with a different ORA number when the DB is down. Because the exception is thrown deep within the Django libraries, and can be triggered by any of my views or the built in admin views, I don't know where any exception trapping code would go. Any suggestions?

  When using some existing forum software in a larger web-site, how easy is it to: 1)Make your site's login functionality log the user into the forum 2)Make your site's registration functionality create forum login data I suppose in a way it might be easier to ONLY use the forum's database for maintaining users, but that means trusting it with sensitive data. I'm planning an integration between an existing bespoke desktop app and a new bespoke web-site which should include forums. I don't know which forums will be used but I know the new web functionality won't be PHP-based. I figure that's not a big deal but I'm wondering if forums typically allow configuration of where they look for login data, to avoid duplicating this data into my DB and the forum DB.

• Dealing w/ Sqlite Join results in a cursor

  I have a one-many relationship in my local Sqlite db. Pretty basic stuff. When I do my left outer join I get back results that look like this: the resulting cursor has multiple rows that look like this: A1.id | A1.column1 | A1.column2 | B1.a_id_fk | B1.column1 | B1.column2 A1.id | A1.column1 | A1.column2 | B2.a_id_fk | B2.column1 | B2.column2 and so on... Is there a standard practice or method of dealing with results like this ? Clearly there is only A1, but it has many B-n relationships. I am coming close to using multiple queries instead of the "relational db way". Hopefully I am just not aware of the better way to do things. I intend to expose this query via a content provider and I would hate for all of the consumers to have to write the same aggregation logic.

The second crazy idea i had was to pass the variable values in as part of the third param of the findDependentRowset() method. $menA = $league->findDependentRowset('Model_DbTable_LeagueSummary','MenA',array("I","A")); Any suggestions on how I might use the Zend DB Table Relationship mapping correctly to do this would be appreciated. I'm not interested in the plain, old and ugly $db-select(a,b,c)-where(..) style solution.

  Guys; Hope you are fine. I have to make a Web Project (very simple) I will have a DB with 2 tables. One table has 2 fields. From the WebPage I need a Google like search query, for example I have Movie Title and Movie Review on the Table. I need to be able to search those 2 fields like this: "Best Movie" + Action I will need to make a query to the DB to search for the "Best Movie" string togheter plus optional ACTION word on 2 fields of the table. Am I clear??? :) Does somebody know if this has already been made, and if it´s public and free and where to get it :) Thanks in advanced EDIT: My concern is to translate the Google like Symbols ("", +, -, ~) to build a valid query.

• How can a hacker put a file on my server root (apache, php, 1and1)

  Hi there, I have a site hosted on 1and1 and a couple of weeks ago I noticed a hacker had put a .php file on the server that when viewed in a browser exposed my DB schema, DB connection strings, FTP account (for file uploads using a form), etc, etc. Naturally I panicked and I wiped the server and reuploaded my files. Fortunatley I encrypt passwords using MD5 and I don't store things like credit card details, etc, etc. Now I checked my files and with all user input I use a clean function (htmlentities, sql_real_escape_string, etc, etc) that strips the input of any XSS or SQL injection. I have also made sure that the session key gets re-engineered when a user status changes (like they log into their account) to prevent session hijacking, my folder permissions are set to 755 and file permission are 644. Has anyone got any idea how this could have happened? Or if I'm missing something

As my app is still in the planning process I would like to ask if there are any Issues with SQLlite database ? from memory management to Queries and data sizes and multiple access etc; Please share your experience using SQLite DB in iPhone and what problems did you face? • Ruby on Rails - Currency : commas causing an issue.

  Looking on SO, I see that the preferred way to currency using RoR is using decimal(8,2) and to output them using number_to_currency(); I can get my numbers out of the DB, but I'm having issues on getting them in. Inside my update action I have the following line: if @non_labor_expense.update_attributes(params[:non_labor_expense]) puts YAML::dump(params) The dump of params shows the correct value. xx,yyy.zz , but what gets stored in the DB is only xx.00 What do I need to do in order to take into account that there may be commas and a user may not enter .zz (the cents). Some regex and for comma? how would you handle the decimal if it were .2 versus .20 . There has to be a builtin or at least a better way. For instance, if following are the classes: class A { } class B { std::list _a_list; } I have provided load/save menthods for loading/saving to the db. Now, if i take the case of B : Say , for the following workflow : 1 entry from _a_list is removed 1 entry from _a_list is modified 1 entry is added to _a_list Now, i need to update the db using something like "b.save()". So, what would be the best way to save the changes,i.e, identify the additions, deletions and updations to _a_list.

• Comparing two collection lists

  I've been at this for few hors now and can't seem to find a solution. I have 2 invnetory lists, one a spreadsheet and the other data table. I need to match the spreadsheet agains the data table to find out if I have missing inventory. The spreadsheet should match with what I have in the db, ie the spreadsheet is like a master so when I have missing inventory in DB I need to add it an list and build a report. I thought by looping throught the spreadsheet and for each inventory in the spreadsheet loop through the data table I can achieve my goal but that proved to be wrong. Any ideas how I would do this?   Consider this situation: There's a critical VB6 desktop application running on a production box. There is a possibility of installing a .NET application that queries the same DB that the VB6 application queries, which is an SQL Server 2000 DB. The VB6 application also depends on third-party ActiveX controls (registered .ocx files). The concern is - will the .NET Framework installation replace any files or break the VB6 runtime in any way. In other words, can we safely assume that an installation of the .NET Framework is completely independent of any previous VB6 installations and will not interfere with the running application?

• Changes to the User Permissions Not saving

  I am use drupal 6. it seems like permission page can not save too many settings. I have try to save permission setting, but it is just not saved into DB. I have found out this is due to "too many fields". (use content permission module). if i uncheck some fields, and then checking lesser fields, permission will be saved. for example, if I am unchecking 2 check boxes, then checking one check box, permission will be saved. does any one know which function the permission page used to insert result into db? my php memory limit is 256M.
