I'm thinking of setting up a separate VPS for this blog running on worpdress what should i install ? apache . lighttpd or nginx ? which will perform the best under heavy load ? content will be very dynamic - AJAX updates

  • Redirect input from one terminal to another

    I have sshed into a linux box and I'm using dvtm and bash (although I have also tried this with Gnu screen and bash). I have two terminals, current /dev/pts/29 and /dev/pts/130. I want to redirect the input from one to the other. From what I understand, in /dev/pts/130 I can type: cat </dev/pts/29 And then when I type in /dev/pts/29 the characters I type should show up in /dev/pts/130. However what ends up happening is that every other character I type gets redirected. For example, if I type "hello" I get this: /dev/pts/29 | /dev/pts/130 $ | $ cat </dev/pts/29 $ el | hlo This is really frustrating as I need to do this in order to redirect the io of a process running in gdb (I've tried both run /dev/pts/# and set inferior-tty /dev/pts/# and both resulted in the aforementioned behavior). Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug in bash/screen/dvtm?

  • Nginx Rewrite to Previous Directory

    I am trying to move my blog from blog.example.com to example.com/blog to do this I would rather not move anything on disk, so instead i changed my nginx configuration file to the following: location /blog { if (!-e $request_filename) { rewrite ^.*$ /index.php last; } root /home/demo/public_html/blog.example.com/current/public/; index index.php index.html index.html; passenger_enabled off; index index.html index.htm index.php; try_files $uri $uri/ @blog; } This works great but when i visit example.com/blog nginx looks for: /home/demo/public_html/blog.example.com/current/public/blog/index.php instead of /home/demo/public_html/blog.example.com/current/public/index.php Is there a way to put in a rewrite rule so that I can have the server automatically take out the /blog/ directory? something like ? location /blog { rewrite \\blog\D \; }

The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of this email is 07:00:37 up 11:30, 0 users, load average: 14.64, 16.79, 20.07" I don't know, I have tried switching these config values many different times, but nothing seems to work.   • FTP account ownership on vhost directory makes Apache not run website correctly

    I've purchased a virtual server, where I'm given of a non-root sudo-enabled user. Actually I do need to create an FTP account that's not that sudo-able account, so I created a no-login account just for that purpose. I've set up VSFTPd correctly, also enabling the "userlist" feature, to specify which user are permitted to use FTP. Then I created an empty directory under my sudo-able account, and I gave ownership permissions to the second account, so to make it more easy to understand, let's say the main account (the one I do use to manage my VPS) is called ubuntu and the FTP-user is named ftpuser, I created a directory /home/ubuntu/mywebsite giving the ownership to ftpuser:ftpuser. Then I uploaded a worpdress website, whose default permissions are 755 and 644. The issue is that Apache is not given of any privilege to run the website. How can I make the website run properly, and which is the most secure? Should I run that virtualhost with another user (if it's possible)? Should I force the FTP user to use the www-data group (if that's possible) and run with permissions like 775 and 664? How can I solve this issue? Any help is appreciated, I'd like to run it using the default permissions, so any update won't break up anything (because of permissions reset).

    I have a server that I hooked up an external USB drive. It was formatted in windows and has files on it already. I'm new to Ubuntu so please be patient... I have two questions: Will Ubuntu see the drive since it was formatted in windows? How do I mount this drive or rather, how do I know it's seen by Ubuntu? Thanks!   • I can't install Ubuntu on my Dell Inspiron 15R at all

    I'm attempting to install Ubuntu 12.04LTS, 64 bit onto a Dell Inspiron 15R laptop. I've shrunk down one of the windows partitions and even used gparted to format the vacant space as ext4. However, the install disk simply does not present any options when it comes to the partitioning step. What I get is a non-responsive blank table As well as the above, I've changed the BIOS settings so that USB emulation is disabled (as per Can't install on Dell Inspiron 15R), and changed the SATA Operation setting to all three possible options.     I have Ubuntu Linux 12.04 version the latest right now.I want to mount an external HDD NTFS 1TB.I have followed many guides but still no success.The error I'm getting is this: Failed to read last sector (1953523119): Invalid argument HINTS: Either the volume is a RAID/LDM but it wasn't setup yet, or it was not setup correctly (e.g. by not using mdadm --build ...), or a wrong device is tried to be mounted, or the partition table is corrupt (partition is smaller than NTFS), or the NTFS boot sector is corrupt (NTFS size is not valid). Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Invalid argument The device '/dev/sdb1' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS. Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?     I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my Inspiron laptio, but the installer does not show any drives. My system has a 1TB SATA drive and a 32GB SSD. As far as I can figure, the boot files are kept on the SSD for fast startup (for Windows). During Win7 installation, I had to manually load drivers for RAID controller to see all available drives.     I'm trying to install Ubuntu 13.10 alongside Windows 7 on my DELL INSPIRON 14z 5423 laptop and I'm new to all of this. I'm using the Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit ISO burned onto a CD. The first time I tried to install it, Ubuntu said it did not detect any other OS, which meant I only had 4 options: Erase disk and install Ubuntu (I don't want to do this) Encrypt new Ubuntu. Use LVM. Something else. If I choose the Something else option, it brings me to the partition menu and says that I have 1 disk with free space of (500Gb), but that's not true because I have Windows 7.     I have a 120GB HDD and a 1TB HDD in the system. I installed Ubuntu Server using LVM on the 120GB. After installation I added the 1TB to the existing volume group and added 10GB to /home as a test. My understanding is that lshw is supposed to list hardware.     I am having trouble getting fancybox to display its corresponding images on a website that I'm building http://www.nomadicdrift.com/test/kaniwa#events . It's a custom one page portfolio theme that I set up on the WordPress platform. If you follow the link to the events section you will see 1 figure item in a gallery like position. I have this image set up to work as a fancybox gallery, but when you click on it, it opens up the fancybox interface but does not place a image in the frame, even though it should. So this is the problem...the images do not show up in fancybox and instead I see just the frame. I tried uninstalling all of my plugins/addons (which aren't too many) one by one and still had the same result. I have all of my personal javascript in the functions.js file, which is where I call the fancybox plugin using the standard $("a.fancybox").fancybox();. I have installed this plugin before on other sites and have searched extensively for an answer, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sean

Right now the tweetmeme settings show: float: right; margin-left: 10px; What's the best Facebook plugin for this and what settings do I need? I think the Simple Facebook Share Button should be good but I'm not sure the bit of code I should put to move it below the tweetmeme button.

  • When Logged out, one blog shows - logged in, all blogs show

    I've coded this Wordpress site but I'm finding difficulties with the blog area. Only one blog shows in the blog section but with I am logged in as an admin, I can see all the blogs on the page. I need it to show for everyone, whether they are logged in as a user or just a visitor to the website. I have attempted to see if it was a wordpress issue by checking the 'Settings Reading' settings and they are set just fine, showing to be 10 posts per page.. It could be something wrong with the loop.     I have downloaded and installed the latest Window V2 Community M06 build of Neo4j on a windows 7 64 bit machine (I have tried the 32bit and 64 bit installs). Installation proceeds without and problems and the system runs normally but there is no /plugins directory (on both versions):- \Program Files (x86)\Neo4j Community\ \Program Files (x86)\Neo4j Community\.install4j \Program Files (x86)\Neo4j Community\bin I am trying to install the Spatial plugin .. so I tried creating the \plugins directory.
