  Hi all, Our organisation we have 25 computers and we are trying to setup Windows Server 2003. We are planning to configure Active Directory NAT DNS server Visual Studio Team Foundation Server Subversion (SVN) Trac (Bug tracking tool) FTP server And our Hardware configuration is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual (Core processor 5600+, 2.60 GHz) Asus motherboard (M2N series) Transcend 4 GB RAM (800 MHz) 500 GB Hard Disk (RAID enabled) But my colleague is advising me AMD won't suite for servers platforms, and use Intel environment. Also they telling we can't install all the services to one server. I got confusion what to do?... Is really can`t install above services to AMD computer? Thanks...

• Downloads on Vista Home Premium start off fast but slow down to 0 Kb/s and hang

  I have Windows Vista Home Premium on my computer and everytime I go to download something, it starts out at about 1.5 Mb/s and stays there for about 3 seconds, then it slows down to 800 Kb/s and continues to drop until it gets down to 0 Kb/s and hangs. I've tried just about everything I can find such as uninstalling all firewalls/antivirus, doing the netsh rss,autotune, and chimney disable, and updating everything but it still continues to happen. I'd prefer not to reinstall but if I have to then I have to... EDIT: Figured it out, the router needed a firmware update

  I have a java app on a large instance that will spawn up to 800 threads. I can run the application fine as user "root" but not as another user which I created. I get the deadly. java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread at java.lang.Thread.start0(Native Method) at java.lang.Thread.start(Thread.java:657) at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor.addWorker(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:943) at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor.execute(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:1325) nightmare. I have tried increasing the stack size already in limits.conf to no avail. Please, help me out. What is different here for the root and other user?

  Hello, I am having windows vista home premium OS on my laptop. I am having a windows VPN setup too. All of a sudden my vpn doesnt work when my PC resumed from stand by mode. I tried all options but still I am getting that error. CoId={5B82082D-9236-4AF9-900B-4E8072341C76}: The user workgroup\user dialed a connection named VPNName which has failed. The error code returned on failure is 0. I am also getting the following error when I verified the event logs The user workgroup\user dialed a connection named VpnName which has failed.   Hi, I'm facing a rebuilding of the volume on which I host the mail storage (kerio mailserver, which uses maildirs). I need to backup and restore as quick as possible the 3.5+ millions (for about 600GB) small files of the store directory. It takes more than 12 hours via rsync to a NFS share, but I also have a 1TB firewire 800 raid1 disk that I can use (from some preliminary tests it's faster). I'm working off a XServe intel. What is the fastest way to do it? Rsync? Finder copy? tar?

• Rewind print job under Windows Server 2008

  Hello, We are in the transition from Novell NetWare to Windows server 2008. In case of the printer server we print jobs thousands of pages long. NetWare printer manager has a handy function which allows to rewind a print job to a specified page. In case of a paper jam at the 750 page on a 800 page document this is really convenient. Does anybody know if there is a solution for this? The lists printed are in plain ascii lists with printer command characters embedded, and we are using dot matrix printers. • How much traffic a linux-based shaper would be able to chew

  Hi, everyone I have a linux based traffic shaper (iptables + tc htb policy). It works in bridge mode. Shapes traffic based on IPs and ports (there are about 100 rules in the "mangle" chain of iptables). Right now its throughoutput is about 100 mb/s (I don't remember pps, there are about 800 users in the network). Just was wondering - when I will hit the limit. How much traffic could a linux-based shaper possibly get throuhg it. If you have one under heavy load, please could you write what machine you use and what load there is. Or if you have any other info about the subj, please write as well. Thanks in advance.

  I already have a ELB setup called MyLoadBalancer. I already have 2 nodes running on it with health checks (that checks a URL on the node to see if they are up) Created an autoscaling group (min 2, Max 10) Associated launchconfig mylaunchconfig that provisions a node using an AMI Created a trigger, that checks for avg min connections of 100 and Max of 500 (checks the load balancer and it is support to increase the node count by 1, if avg connections are 500 and decrease by one if less than 100) as-create-or-update-trigger MyTrigger --auto-scaling-group MyAutoScalingGroup --namespace "AWS/ELB" --measure RequestCount --statistic Average --dimensions "LoadBalancerName=MyLoadBalancer" --period 60 --lower-threshold 500 --upper-threshold 800 --lower-breach-increment=-1 --upper-breach-increment=1 --breach-duration 600 Now the issue is, as soon as I put in the trigger, it start 2 nodes .... but there are already two nodes in the LB. So, why is it provisioning 2 more nodes, when the nodes are there ? is it because it is not recognizing the existing 2 nodes ? then how do I add the existing nodes to the AutoScaling group ?

  I'm using Apple System Image Utility (SIU) on Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I am rather disturbed it takes over Three hours to make a Netrestore or Netboot image. I'm using as the donor machine a brand new iMac and as the imaging machine a brand new iMac connected using target disk mode & Firewire 800. The hard drive size and subsequent image is about 8GB. To restore the image over the network takes about 4 minutes. Given that Norton Ghost will take an image in about 5 minutes (or less on newer machines) over USB2, why is the Mac over an order of magnitude slower?

Right now I am just copying files manually to the HD over the network and that's very slow and open to failure (not rsync'd.) Anyone suggest some appropriate solutions? Should I just figure out how to setup RSync on the windows box or is there a better alternative? Thanks!

• Thinkpad CPU temperature reaches 100°C after 10 minutes of heavy use

  Less than two years ago, I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad R500. When using the CPU heavily, it sometimes decides to reboot. I am using Linux, and a widget shows me the CPU temperature. The PC usually reboots when the temperature of the first core gets over 100°C Since I switched from Ubuntu 2010.10 32bit to Ubuntu 2011.04 64bit, it crashes much more often. I survive using these techniques: When in the office, I use a laptopcooler. When outside, I underclock to 800 MHz, by doing so it does not get too warm. QUESTION: Is it normal that a Thinkpad crashes if the CPU is at 100% for more than 10 minutes? How can I use the full power of my computer, for instance when showing CPU-hungry business intelligence tools to clients? The computer does not really feel that hot. Maybe the sensor itself is reporting wrong temperatures? Can I tell the BIOS to ignore it?

  For some reason when running a single rsync command I am getting 1 MB/sec to 2 MB/sec even when I connecting 2 servers both connected to 1 Gbps ports. rsync -v --progress -e ssh /backup/mysqldata/mysql-bin.000199 [email protected]:/secondary/mysqldata/mysqldata/mysql-bin.000199 I have over 800 GB of data to transfer split among 500 or so files all starting with: mysql-bin.000* I've found that running 25-30 rsync simultaneously from seperate SSH windows gets me upwards of 25 MB/sec but it will take me hours to run these all manually. Is there anyway to get the 25 MB/sec from a single rsync command?

• How to edit screen grabbed video on Windows XP?

  Problem I've used CamStudio to record a presentation (fullscreen, 1280x1024, 45 min, no audio) to a small number of AVI files (10 files with about 800 MB total). Now I want to remove the initial and trailer sequences where you see start and stop of CamStudio. I'd like to remove some pauses during the video, too. Question Could you recommend some programs for Windows XP that I can use for this task? The result should be a (small - at least not bigger than the original) video format that I can play back. I've no need to create a DVD etc. Already tried I already tried MAGIX Video Deluxe 16 (Trial Version), but it takes about 2 hours to just export 10 minutes of the video and produces about 2 GB of data for this.

• Linux for a laptop? [closed]

  I would like to install Linux on a laptop. So I have emptied the hard drive, and can boot off a CD. So far I have failed to format the hard drive to Linux, to install Linux, and to change it so that I don't have to hit escape when loading in order to boot from CD (or get Linux on the hard drive and boot to it). The old laptop has 640 MB RAM, 600*800 screen, a CD drive and USB mouse and floppy drives. I eventually mean to use it to look at PDFs if possible, or RTFs that I converted from PDFs if not.

• apache2 slow responding (debian)

  I'm running an apache2 2.2.9 webserver with modpython and mpm_worker_module. The current config for the mpm is ServerLimit 32 StartServers 10 MaxClients 800 MinSpareThreads 25 MaxSpareThreads 75 ThreadsPerChild 25 MaxRequestsPerChild 0 The server has 1G of ram and a 100Mbit connection. Checking netstat -na | grep ESTABLISHED | wc -l gives me a number between 50 - 60. The load is about 1.0 Every pageload is also cached by memcached. I can't see why the server is so slow in responding to new connections, sometimes droping them completely? Also tried disabling iptables to make sure it's not because of a full state table or something like that. The only thing in dmesg is a lot of spam about "TCP: Treason uncloaked!"

• Can I upgrade an Asus M51Sn laptop to 2x4GB of RAM? (DDR2)

  My Asus M51Sn has 2 RAM slots which currently have 1x1GB + 1x2GB DDR2-800 SODimm RAM modules installed. I've found out that 4GB DDR2 SODimm modules do exist, though they are impossible to find in local stores nere here, but I've found them in online stores like these: http://www.pccomponentes.com/g_skill_ddr2_800_pc2_6400_4gb_so_dimm.html They seem to meet the specification, so can I replace both my current modules with 2x4GB modules, and reach a total of 8GB? Or should I worry about some limit (e.g. 4GB max or 2GB per slot) imposed by the matherboard, chipset or whatever? (I currently use Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit, so I plan to use the pae kernel, which supposedly supports 4GB ram on a 32bit system; or I may consider switching tu 64bit ubuntu; the question is about hardware limitations, not OS limitations).

• Vlookup to retrieve an ID from table using text match

  I've got an excel spreadsheet where I would normally use a VLOOKUP. In this case I need to find the ID of the record when comparing email addresses, so the email address is the unique id here. For example on sheet 1 A B C D Person Id | Family Name | First Name | Email #N/A | Doe | John | [email protected] On Sheet 2 A B C D Person Id | Family Name | First Name | Email 12345 | Doe | John | [email protected] Basically on sheet 1 I've got 800 records, on sheet 2 450. I know the 450 are in Sheet 1, so I need to find the ids of those, and put them on sheet 1 where I've got lots more data for each person. What I've tried so far is a VLOOKUP, but I keep getting an error. I'd like to do it with some sort of formula and not using any copy paste and remove duplicates. Any ideas?

• Dell Vostro 1520 Unable to Read Compact Flash Card with Adapter?

  I Purchased the Dell Vostro 1520 a few months ago and recently tried using a PCMCIA adapter for the Compact Flash card my camera uses. I can't get the laptop to find the card. Tried going online to see if a CF card should work, but have not found a clear or definate answer. I do not want to deal with Dell on the phone as even 800 #'s cost me more than it's worth to use. Hoping someone can let me know if I'm wasting my time trying to get the laptop to read my CF card. • Suggestion for boot manager in external hard disk

  Hi, I just bought an 1TB External Hard drive with eSATA, USB, FW400/800 (LaCie if you are interested). I already put the windows 7 installation in a FAT32 active partition so i can plug the HDD via USB, since my notebook or other computers doesn't support boot via eSATA commonly, and it works. Now i want to do more partitions so i'm looking for a way to have a boot manager as active partitions that allows me to boot from different partitions in my HDD (win7, ubuntu installations for example) I want to know if you know any software to do this or you already have this system. • Moving the OS X swap file to a faster drive

  I have a new Mac Mini that's running the latest version of Snow Leopard. The internal drive is a bit of a slouch. I'd like to move the swap file (or whatever it's called is OS X) to my faster external drive (Firewire 800, permanently connected). Is this possible? I've read that the old solutions aren't working in 10.6. My Mac has 2GB of RAM, so the swap file is used quite a bit when I'm doing intensive work (Photoshop etc).
