    Hi, I am using StreamReader in C#.net for reading RTF files. It was working, but after certain time, it's not working. Can anyone help me? My Code is: StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory + @"\Features.rtf"); string strfeatures = reader.ReadToEnd(); Now i am getting the following content in strfeatures i.e. {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang2057{\fonttbl{\f0\fswiss\fcharset0 Arial;}} {\*\generator Msftedit 5.41.15.1515;}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs20\par } I don't know why? Can anyone help me?

  • Would You Pay for Smartphone OS Updates? [Poll]

    For most phone ecosystems, manufacturer/carrier provided updates are few and far between (or outright nonexistent). To get access to mobile OS updates, would you open your wallet? While iPhone users are used to regular (and free) OS updates, the rest of us our largely left out in the cold. Over at ExtremeTech, Ryan Whitwam argues that we should be willing to pay for smartphone OS updates. The core of his argument is updates cost money and there is no financial incentive for carriers like Sprint and Verizon to turn back to their supplies (say, Motorola or LG) and pay them to provide an update pack for a phone they stopped selling last quarter. He writes: It might be hard to swallow, but the manufacturer of your phone is out to make money for its shareholders. The truth of the matter is that you’re not even the customer; the carrier is. Carriers buy thousands of phones at a time, and unless the carrier wants an update, there won’t be one because there is no one else to pay for it. Imagine if, instead of burning money for little or no benefit, an OEM actually had a financial incentive to port ICS to its older devices. Instantly, the idea of updating phones goes from the customer service back-burner to the forefront of a company’s moneymaking strategy. If the system proves a success, carriers could get involved and have a taste of the update fees as compensation for deploying the update over the air. This is more viable now than ever before thanks to the huge number of Android phones in the market. Samsung, for example, has sold over 30 million Galaxy S II phones since last summer. It has just started rolling Android 4.0 updates out to some countries, but most users are still waiting. If it charged just $10 for access to the update, that would be $150 million if only half of all users wanted an official update.   • Embedded .swf file in .pfd-Ubuntu 10.04

    I have just finished a presentation in LaTeX. In this very .pdf file I have included a .swf animation(done with adobe flash CS5 in windows) which starts when you click on it. While I have already installed a relevant player(swfdec flash player) neither document viewer nor okular are able to reproduce it. I tried with my player to make sure that the file is not corrupted and the result was that it can be produced. I tried the same .pdf file in windows using adobe reader and there is no problem there. The embedded file can be reproduced with no problem. So I thought of installing adobe in ubuntu. I tried there to see if the problem was solved. Things got a bit better. Adobe could understand that there is something there, so when clicked I got a message that I had to get the proper player. When I clicked on a relevant button I expected to open my browser in a player's page. Instead nothing happened. If I place my mouse's cursor next to the space that defines my animation the is a "message" stating "Media File(application/x-shockwave flash)". The next step was to install Adobe Flash player, but I couldn't find the standallone player;only the browser's plugs... How can I get this .swf file play in pdf?

  • SD Card only mounted after a reboot

    I have a Kingston 2GB MicroSD and I plug it in via an inconix MicroSD Adapter to the internal card reader of my Samsung N210 Netbook with Ubuntu 10.10, but it doesn't show up. Only if I reboot the system when the card's plugged in it shows up. Why does it need a reboot for mounting? sudo fdisk -l gives the output below. But I can only see the drive when I reboot the computer while the card's plugged.   • How can one convert a Word form to a PDF form while preserving fields?

    I have a Word source document which I'm using to create a PDF form. The first go-round, everything is fine because I can let Acrobat Pro auto-create all the fields. That feature is actually pretty awesome. However, after spending a bunch of time adjusting field sizes and alignments and formats and so on, I want to edit the source document, and now I'm faced with the prospect of doing all that over again. Isn't there some way to add the fields in the source document using the Developer ribbon and have those fields be preserved in the conversion to PDF? If not, what other ways are there to avoid this kind of redundant effort?

  • Word document to PDF: open hyperlinks in new window

    I have a Mircosoft Word document with hyperlinks in it. When I save the PDF document, those hyperlinks no longer open that link in a new window. I have tried all the settings under the "Target Frame..." option, but those don't seem to persist. Is there any settings that help with this to make all hyperlinks in the document open in a new window? I am currently using the Acrobat plugin, but could move to a different plugin if it offers this feature.

  • How do I populate multiple records of data into a PDF form like a mail-merge?

    I have Acrobat Pro, and I have a PDF with a form on it. Assuming the fields in the form correspond to a data source (like rows in an RDBMS table or xml file), I want to then print multiple copies of the PDF file, with each copy having the values of a different row in the data source. It is preferable to directly interface with an actual database, rather than having to save an XML file every time I do this. If this involves programming that's cool too, I only posted here because the question didn't seem appropriate for StackOverflow. Thanks!

  • Clone/mirror a textbox in a PDF form

    I've got a PDF form in Acrobat X Pro where users can enter their name in a textbox on the first page. I would like the contents of that box to be cloned/mirrored in another box on the second page of the same form: However, in the Properties dialog of the second textbox, I can't find a way to reference the first one. I do have options to calculate numerical values and perform validation etc. etc., but I can't seem to simply have it display the contents of another textbox. Is this not possible in PDF forms, or am I overlooking something obvious?

  • Grub hangs at "Starting up ..." when USB flash card reader is plugged in (on Ubuntu Hardy)

    I have a PC with Ubuntu Hardy installed. The machine boots fine unless my USB flash card reader (one of those N-in-1 readers by MediaGear) is plugged in at startup. If the reader is plugged in, the boot process proceeds as normal until it gets to the screen that says "Starting up ...". At that point it just hangs forever. To work around this I currently leave the reader unplugged when booting, and then plug it back in after I see that Ubuntu is actually starting. This is annoying though, especially when I reboot the machine (typically for updates), forget to unplug the reader, and walk away only to come back hours later to find the machine hung. My guess is that the presence of the reader is confusing Grub about where to find the kernel. The weird thing is that Grub is on the same drive as the kernel I want it to boot so clearly the drive is still readable even when the flash card reader is plugged in. Is there some way I can tell Grub to never go looking on the flash card reader?

  • Linux RFID reader HID Device not matching driver

    Hello, I got a RFID reader (GigaTek PCR330A-00) that is meant to be recognized under linux/windows as a (Human Interface Device) keyboard/USB. I hate to say this but it is working as a charm under Win7 but not "really" under Linux. Under Debian-like distros (x/k/Ubuntu, Debian,..), or Gentoo, or... I just can't have the device working at all: the device scan well (it has its USB 5V, so it is happy/beeping/blinking) something happened in the dmesg, but no immediate screen display of the RFID Tag code as expected (and seen under win7) Support is claiming it is ok under RHEL or SLED "enterprises" distros... and I must admit I saw it working under a RHEL4... I tried stealing the driver but did not succeed having my reader working... My question is thus double: 1./ How can I hack the kernel to add support to my device (simply register PID/VID?) ? 2./ What is different at all in a "enterprise" proprietary distro? how can I re-use it?   • Two Google accounts in firefox for email/reader/openid

    I usually checking my personal gmail account account at work, and I have another gmail account for work/professional purpose. Now I am starting to see more sites using OpenID. The problem I am facing is that I want to check my gmail from firefox, but I want to use my work google account to login with OpenID website. Is there an easy to do so? Of course one way is to logout my personal account, login my work account, OpenID login to those sites. Second way is to use another browser for my personal gmail and firefox for work, but are there a better way because I hate using two browsers at the same time?

    Social Reader Application has made the process of sharing in Facebook easy but it looks like whatever we read is being displayed in our Facebook’s page. How to avoid this sharing? In the recent days, everyone’s Facebook Page is being flooded with various news from all the Social Reader Applications we have enabled. Even though this is a good idea to share the current news to everyone, it still seems to have taken away our privacy of what content we actually read. To avoid displaying the news on our Facebook page: 1. If you want the feeds to be displayed in your page but not to be shown to public or friends, just select from the options that are listed when you give permission for the Social Reader when you first read a feed. 2. Select Account Settings from the drop down menu on the top right corner of your FB page. Select Apps Tab which is available in the left side of the page. Here you can change the App Settings or completely delete the App. 3. You can also block Social Reader and other applications’ feeds that are read by your friends. In the right corner of the feed, click the drop-down icon and select “Hide all by ‘Application’” option. By selecting this, you would not be able to see any feeds from your friends too. 4. If you are intrigued by the feeds, you can just copy the title in your search engine and then read directly from their sites. This will not list the feed in your Facebook page.

  • Printing a PDF results in garbled text (sometimes)

    We have a system that renders a report as a PDF, and displays it in the browser for the user. In the browser, the document always appears to display fine, but when printed on one machine, it sometimes changes some of the data in the report to seemingly random characters. Here are some examples of the strings it inserts: Ebuf; Bvhvt ul1: -!3122 Ti jqqf e!Wjb; Nfttf ohf s!Tf swjdf Additionally, the inter-character spacing is weird. It sometimes writes characters overlapping each other. I noticed some repetition in the garbled text, so I typed a few of them into Google, and surprisingly got a lot of hits. Here is the string I searched for: pdf cjmp ebuf nftf up! The Google search summaries contain the garbled text. However, when I click on those links in Google, I get perfectly readable PDF files. It's as if Google's PDF crawler has the same bug. Has anyone figured this out? Is this an Acrobat Reader bug?
