• Domain appears taken when searched from a different host, but whois says 'No match'

  I have recently registered a new .name domain. It is just myfirstname.name, something like nanda.name. My debit card has been billed, but my domain control panel doesn't show any information regarding the new domain. I have raised a ticket with their support and there is no response yet. It's been 3 days. I checked some other registrars and almost all of them say that nanda.name is taken, but when I search whois either from my command line or the numerous whois web services, I get No match as answer each time. What gives? PS : I should add that this registrar's support is known to suck, which, by the time I found, is a bit late.

• Default User Id at Login different from User Name in Terminal Shell

  During the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installation, I was prompted to enter a user name and password, so that a corresponding account could be created and set up for login. I replaced the one that was provided by default (i.e. '70319', which is the Windows 7 admin id) with a user name/id of my choosing. Now, when I turn on the computer, and choose to enter the Ubuntu operating system, the login id that is displayed is 70319 - that is, the one provided by Windows 7. However, when I open up a Unix/Terminal shell, the user id that is displayed at the prompt is the one I entered during installation. Otherwise, the installation of Ubuntu was a success! Is there some way of changing the user id that is displayed at the Login screen, so that it is consistent with the one I entered during installation? If it's any help, I installed Ubuntu using wubi on an ASUS Eee PC 1011PX running Windows 7, and ASUS Express Gate Cloud. • Calling functions from different classes

  I'm writing a program and I'm supposed to check and see if a certain object is in the list before I call it. I set up the contains() method which is supposed to use the equals() method of the Comparable interface I implemented on my Golfer class but it doesn't seem to call it (I put print statements in to check). I tried using some other functions that relied on the find() method and got the same results.

• How is"cloud computing"different from "client-server"?

  Watching a CEO for a new "cloud computing" company describe his company on a finance TV program today, he said something like "Cloud computing is superior to old-fashioned client-server computing". Now I'm confused. Can someone please explain what "cloud computing" means in contrast to client-server? As far as I understand it, cloud computing is more of a network services model, such that I do not own or maintain the physical hardware. The "cloud" is all the back-end stuff. But I still might have an application that communicates with that "cloud" environment. And if I run a web site presents a form that a user fills out, pushes a button on the page, and returns some report that was generated by the web server, isn't that the same as "cloud" computing? And would you not consider my web browser as the "client"? Please note my question is specific to the concept of "cloud computing" with respect to "client-server". Sorry if this is an inappropriate question for this site; it's the one closest in the Stack universe and this is my first time here. I'm an old timer, programming since mainframe days in the late 70's.

• Windows 7 can't boot with Ubuntu on different hard drive

  I use a dual boot with two hard disks and two OS is Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7. Windows 7 installed on the first disk, first partition. Grub is installed on a second hard disk MBR, and Ubuntu installed on an extended partition on a second hard drive. When I select Windows 7 on the Grub menu, the HDD lamp lights up briefly and then black screen on the monitor, with the status of the keyboard is still functioning. Until now (with the default boot from first HDD), I have to press F12 to get into the Grub to run Linux on a second HDD. output of fdisk -l grub.cfg. I want to retain Grub to remain on the second HDD, and Windows 7 could choose from the menu provided by Grub. But I do not get how, I hope anyone can help.

I can send all of them as extra params to create but this will not scale to more then a few classes. Also I can't break the inheritance because a lot of the basic functionality is the same. Is there a better pattern to solve this?

  I'm running lucid server and have installed tomcat. The version it installed is 6.0.24-2ubuntu1.6. Is this the version I'm tied to? Is it possible to install a more recent version? The one available from maverick is 6.0.28. Maybe I can add a source to provide my lucid install with this version? In the package manager user interface I can "force version". Is it possible to force version from command line alternative as well?

  I now program in C# for a living but before that I programmed in python for 5 years. I have found that I write C# very differently than most examples I see on the web. Rather then writing things like: foreach (string bar in foo) { //bar has something doen to it here } I write code that looks like this. foo.ForEach( c => c.someActionhere() ) Or var result = foo.Select( c => { //Some code here to transform the item. }).ToList(); I think my using code like above came from my love of map and reduce in python - while not exactly the same thing, the concepts are close. Now it's time for my question. What concepts do you take and move with you from language to language; that allow you to solve a problem in a way that is not the normal accepted solution in that language?

• Showing content from pages at different URL's (masking), possibly with .htaccess

  If I have URL's like:- domain.com/category/widgets/filter/blue domain.com/category/widgets/filter/red And it is pretty difficult to reconstruct them to something like:- domain.com/category/blue-widgets domain.com/category/red-widgets Is there any way at all that I can use URL rewrites or anything else with .htaccess or on the server to display the URL's as the domain.com/category/blue-widgets on the domain.com/category/widgets/filter/blue page? I've looked into masking URL's but got nowhere and this has been something bugging me for almost 6 months now. Is there any way to achieve what I want to do? FYI: This is a Magento website and the above process, I am wanting to implement for potentially hundreds of URL's. Edit To respond to @kkugelmann's answer:- I couldn't get your proposed RewriteRule to make a difference at all in the .htaccess file so I started testing a few things in this .htaccess tester:- The proposed RewriteRule didn't work in this tester:- However, the following did:- But adding any of these RewriteRule's into the website's .htaccess file did not rewrite the URL at all... Edit2 By the way, if I add [R=301,L] to the end of the URL rewrite rule, it does actually then rewrite the rule, but of course 301 redirects it as well which is unwanted behaviour. Edit3 I found another question with the same issue... And an accepted answer that solved the problem which seemed to be something to do with using mod_proxy and the [P] tag on the rule (if I try this, the page 404's).

• Some files not copied when moving an encrypted home to a different partition

  I have "successfully" moved my encrypted home to a separate partition using the instructions here: How can i move an encrypted home directory to another partition? However, some files are not being copied over. Most notably, I have a directory in my old home that contains the themes I use. This directory and it's contents are not copied over to the new home and therefore I come up with the default theme. Permissions on the directory that was not moved are identical to the other directories in home. Another discrepancy is that my Dropbox folder came over empty and had to resync itself. My concern is what else might be missing from the copied home. At this point, I've flipped back to the old home by re-editing /etc/fstab, but I'd really like to get /home cleanly and completely off of root without having to core the system.

• Curiosity on any Smartphones that Run on Android 2.3.3 with Different Screen Reoslution

  I have a question regarding about any smartphones that run only in Android 2.3.3. Is the size of screen or the screen resolution is always HVGA or does it have capable of running this OS (Android 2.3.3) on big screen size (4" to 5") at about 720x1280? I'm thinking of the game's compatibility depending on the version of the Android OS and the screen resolution, which affects the change of coordinates especially for assigning touch buttons and drag-n-drop at exact location, before I'm gonna decide to make one. My program works on the Android 4 ICS and Jellybean, however, will that work on Android 2.3.3 in spite of precise touch coordinate or just dependent on the screen resolution (regardless how large it is) as the X and Y coordinate? And take note, I'm using Eclipse IDE for Java developers.

• How do I share different files in a git repo with different people?

  In a single directory with a Git root folder, I have a bunch of files. I am working on one of those files, X.py, with my friend Alice. The other files I am working on with other people. I want Alice (and everyone else) to have access to X.py. I want Alice to only have access to X.py though. How can I achieve this with Git? Is there a way I can split a directory into two repos? That sounds rather cumbersome. Maybe I could add a remote repo that Alice can access containing X.py?

  I'm trying to see how the text in my Google AdWords ads affects my metrics in Analytics. I have auto-linking enabled, so I figured I would be able to automatically see this in Analytics. Unfortunately, if I try to add a second dimension of Traffic Sources-Ad Content, the metrics are only split by the ad's Headline. Most of my tests are changing only the ads' descriptions... So I guess I need to add a tracking parameter like ?campaign=special_text to my URLs? Or is there a way to see the ads split by ad descriptions? Should I add the full suite of utm_campaign/utm_medium/etc parameters? What's the proper way to track these ads which are mostly similar except the ad descriptions?

  Hello everyone and thanks for your time! I am now facing a problem after a site migration. New site is basically an improved version of old site, with the same content and some extras. After pointing the domain name to the new site, the old site was still online for a while but didn't get any traffic. The new site has its own tracking code. So, old tracking code has age (something like 7 years) but no visitors for a month, but new tracking code is a month old with an acceptable traffic. • C# inherit from a class in a different DLL

  I need to make an application that needs to be highly modular and that can easily be expanded with new functionality. I've thought up a design where I have a main window and a list of actions that are implemented using a strategy pattern. I'd like to implement the base classes/interfaces in a DLL and have the option of loading actions from DLL's which are loaded dynamically when the application starts. This way the main window can initiate actions without having to recompile or redistribute a new version. I just have to (re)distribute new DLL's which I can update dynamically at runtime. This should enable very easy modular updating from a central online source. The 'action' DLL's all inherit their structure from the code defined in the the DLL which defines the main strategy pattern structure and it's abstract factory. I'd like to know if C# /.Net will allow such a construction. I'd also like to know whether this construction has any major problems in terms of design.

  I saw a question here using DataTemplates with WPF for ScreenManagement, I was curious and I gave it a try I think the ideia is amazing and very clean. Though I'm new to WPF and I read a lot of times that almost everything should be made in XAML and very little should be "coded behind". My questions resolves about using the datatemplate ideia, WHERE should the code that calls the transitions be? where should I define which commands are avaiable in which screens.   What i want to do is pretty simple to understand. I want the same launcher shortcut to act like a ON/OFF swith for eg. Like suppose i have made a launcher to start LAMPP with the command gksudo /opt/lampp/lampp start This works properly to start lampp. Now,what i want to do is,If LAMPP is not on,the launcher should execute the above command and start lampp.While if lampp is on,I want ti to execute the command gksudo /opt/lampp/lampp stop and stop lampp. I want these 2 commands to be executed by the same launcher where the command to be executed is decided on the basis of a condition(LAMPP being ON or OFF in the above example) Can i do this? and how? I guess writing a bash script and then making the launcher execute the bash script would do it.but then how do i check weather lampp is on of off?

• Connecting to VPN / proxy with different port number

  I have an IP address, port, username, and password for one of those VPN / proxy services that allows you to use an IP address other than what your ISP gives you, but in the 'Edit Connections VPN' GUI I don't see where to enter a port. I enter the IP address under 'Gateway' and the username and password where it asks for it, but it doesn't work. I try to enter it with the IP address ending with a colon, followed by the port, but that doesn't work either (e.g. "1.1.1.1:9999"). Any idea how I could make it work? I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. • Indefinite loops where the first time is different

  This isn't a serious problem or anything someone has asked me to do, just a seemingly simple thing that I came up with as a mental exercise but has stumped me and which I feel that I should know the answer to already. There may be a duplicate but I didn't manage to find one. Suppose that someone asked you to write a piece of code that asks the user to enter a number and, every time the number they entered is not zero, says "Error" and asks again. When they enter zero it stops. In other words, the code keeps asking for a number and repeats until zero is entered. In each iteration except the first one it also prints "Error". The simplest way I can think of to do that would be something like the folloing pseudocode: int number = 0; do { if(number != 0) { print("Error"); } print("Enter number"); number = getInput(); }while(number != 0); While that does what it's supposed to, I personally don't like that there's repeating code (you test number != 0 twice) -something that should generally be avoided. One way to avoid this would be something like this: int number = 0; while(true) { print("Enter number"); number = getInput(); if(number == 0) { break; } else { print("Error"); } } But what I don't like in this one is "while(true)", another thing to avoid. The only other way I can think of includes one more thing to avoid: labels and gotos: int number = 0; goto question; error: print("Error"); question: print("Enter number"); number = getInput(); if(number != 0) { goto error; } Another solution would be to have an extra variable to test whether you should say "Error" or not but this is wasted memory. Is there a way to do this without doing something that's generally thought of as a bad practice (repeating code, a theoretically endless loop or the use of goto)? I understand that something like this would never be complex enough that the first way would be a problem (you'd generally call a function to validate input) but I'm curious to know if there's a way I haven't thought of.

  I have masterdomain.com which is the domain that hosts other domains. On cPanel normally you can get to the actual cPanel by visiting cpanel.hosteddomainA.com, hosteddomainA.com/cpanel or hosteddomainA.com:2082 What I would like to accomplish is to have the hosteddomains cPanel auto redirect to something like my.masterdomain.com:2082 . Doing this would allow me to adequately throw an SSL cert in my. and really offer a secure experience to my users. I know it's possible because bluehost does the same. They redirect to my.bluehost.com. Can anyone think of how to do it?

• How can I merge the different keyboard indicators?

  Presently I use two application indicators showing a keyboard: input methods (iBus) keyboard layout Is there a way to make them merge into one single indicator icon ? What I have in mind is the equivalent of the messaging menu (gathering all that is related to communications) or the sound menu (gathering all the controls for sound). If it is too complicated to merge the indicators, is the merge planned for an upcoming Ubuntu release? I am on Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity as my environment.
