• Floating DIV's alignment problem.

  I have a fluid layout with DIV's of different heights and widths, and I'd like them to be aligned by lines, kind of like when you do a search on istockphoto, except aligned to the top: image here--http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb121/jpbanks/Capturadepantalla2010-06-02alas1902.png I tried floating all the DIV's to the left, but they are not aligned correctly into lines: image here--http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb121/jpbanks/Capturadepantalla2010-06-02alas1900.png See how "Prueba" doesn't go all the way to the left? I thought of the jQuery plugin Masonry but what I want is obviously different. Any solution using either CSS or jQuery would be fine. Any ideas?

• background scroll-y with liquid layout

  I have a liquid layout but I am unsure how to get the background to act in the same manner as the content. I have an image which is being created using the scroll-y css call. On full screen it looks great and creates a bordered white box where all the main content goes in and is directly in the middle of the page. However when I resize my window the background image stays in the same place where as all my content is moved to adjust for the window size. Is there anyway to get the background scroll-y image to move in the same liquid style as the rest of the contenyt?

• Subnav "active" when it shouldn't be.

  http://wilwaldon.com/itsbroken/templateleftnav.php As you can see on the left navigation the link for Template 01 is highlighted green. The link underneath is also highlighted green. I think the problem lies with the initial LI controlling the ul underneath somehow. I need to keep the xhtml formatted exactly how it is right now and only change the CSS to fix this problem. I'd appreciate any help you may be able to point me in the right direction, I'm pretty stuck at this point. Thank you in advance!

• How can I stop my "headerSticky" and "content" divs from overlapping?

  I'm making a page that has three main components: a "headerSticky" header div, "sidenav" left navigation div, and "content" div. The side navigation is fixed and does not move; but the content div should be scrollable on its own. However, the top of the content div is always overlapped by the header div. Here is the CSS for the header: #headerSticky{ float:top; position:fixed; padding:6px; width: 100%;} and the content div: #content { padding-top: 100px; float:right; overflow: auto; height: 90%; width: 840px; padding: 0 20px 20px;} Any help would be appreciated. • div center does not work for IE

• Drawbacks to using background-repeat only for colors?

  So I need some custom colors on a layout, but I'm looking for a better way of doing it other than just slapping a giant picture with (background: url(something.jpg)) in the layout. Mostly I'm thinking of getting a color palette (i.e. from Adobe Kuler, colourlovers, etc.), getting a 5x5 sample of each color and sticking them in an array for CSS sprites or just as separate files and accessing them through: .color-one {transparent url(./one.gif) repeat} and just reusing that whenever I'd like to use the color. Are there any drawbacks to doing it this way? And if there are should I just stick with web-safe colors or is there a better way of doing this?

• html/css vs CMS

  I am currently a CS student and an aspiring programmer/web developer. I am wondering whether it is worth taking the time to master html and css to make websites when these CMS services/wysiwyg editors (wordpress, squarespace) seem to be becoming more and more functional. Does anyone think these publishing services might eventually make the need to design websites from raw code unnecessary? If not, please explain why. If designing a website eventually becomes as simple as using Photoshop I would much rather invest my time in programming languages.

  Are there any sites where I could buy a site template designed in Twitter Bootstrap (so that it's easy to modify)? I'm working on a site redesign and I think finding a template that looks close enough and modifying it is an economical way to go. (We're pretty niche so I don't need us to have a super cool website.) But folks I've talked to say that many of those templates are hard to modify. So I'm thinking that finding a template designed in a customizable framework would be easy to modify.

Currently, I have specified heights for header, main, footer, etc. I would like to make the site so the header stays on top, the columns adjust to match the height of the longest column, and the footer stays at the bottom. When I have 7000000.00, I would like it displayed as 7 000 000.00 I know I could write a backend (php, perl...) function or a javascript function that could return the formatted number but... • Databinding to an Entity Framework in WPF

  Is it good to use databinding to Entity Framework's Entity in WPF? I created a singleton entity framework context: To have only one connection and it won't open and close all the time. So I can pass the Entity around to any class, and can modify the Entity and make changes to the database. All ViewModels getting the entity out from the same Context and databinding to the View saves me time from mapping new object, but now I imagine there is problem in not using the newest Context: A ViewModel databinding to a Entity, then someone else updated the data. The ViewModel will still display the old data, because the Context is never being dispose to refresh. I always create new Context and then dispose of it. If I want to pass the Entity around, then there will be conflicts between Context and Entity. What is the suggested way of doing this ?

I could plainly see in the Internet Explorer 8 developer tool that an unwanted border in the Telerik RadRotator   was coming from the style classes named .RadRotator_Web20 and .rrClipRegion. • Issue with CSS font color in Webkit in Lion (#444 looks darker than #333)

  I have a strange issue with Safari and Chrome Mac (19.0.1084.54) in OS X Lion. Here it is, very simply put: When I display it in a Webkit browser, text set in Helvetica Neue and color Hex #444 looks a little bolder, and therefore darker, than the same text with an Hex color value of #333. This does not happen at all in Snow Leopard with the exact same browsers (same version). Happens on any website I tried, so I know it's not something related to the CSS of my website. I tried to change it live through the Inspector and it really shows up. • Changing CSS classes when different strings are displayed in a text element with jQuery

  I'm just wondering if this method would be possible using jQuery HTML and PHP. Basically I have a filtering system were products are listed, some have different attribute values such as Hatchback for example. The text element that holds these PHP echo's also have a css class that implements an icon. I'm just wondering can I alter class's that are added to a html element just by looking at the string? So for example if the string displays "Pick-up" then jQuery alters the class and adds the one associated with the "Pick-up" string?   This question already has an answer here: What should every programmer know about web development? 1 answer Do people develop websites from scratch when there are no particular requirements or they just pick up an existing web framework like Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, etc. The requirements are almost similar in most cases; if personal, it will be a blog or image gallery; if corporate, it will be information pages that can be updated dynamically along with news section. And similarly, there are other requirements which can be fulfilled by WordPress, Joomla or Drupal. So, Is it advisable to develop a website from scratch and why ? • JS and CSS caching issue: possibly .htaccess related

  I've been using the HTML5 Boilerplate for some web projects for a while now and have noticed the following issue cropping up on some sites. My CSS and JS files, when loaded by the browser, are being renamed to things like: ce.52b8fd529e8142bdb6c4f9e7f55aaec0.modernizr-1,o7,omin,l.js …in the case of modernizr-1.7.min.js The pattern always seems to add ce. or cc. in front of the filename. I'm not sure what's causing this, and it's frustrating since when I make updates to those files, the same old cached file is being loaded. I have to explicitly call modernizr-1.7.min.js?v=2 or something similar to get it to re-cache. I'd like to scrap it altogether but it still happens even when .htaccess is empty. Any ideas? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I've scoured the internet for a free, open source (or just 'free') CSS 'template' that will turn my grotty looking HTML page in to a nicely colored page with good fonts. Something simple I can just drop in. Is there such a thing? My issue is that I'm not a designer, I just want to pop something in and have it work and look good.

• protecting css selectors on large website

  I have content that appears within a corporate website inside an iframe. Several departments contribute their own CSS files to manage the overall UI and design. My problem is that they may use selectors for elements like td (for instance), without notice. Of course that will affect my own content in the frame unless I add a class to every td. I'm just using td as an example: the generic style for any element could change without notice. Is there any method/convention/practice I can use to protect my own styling?

• CSS tags/media queries for chrome on iPhone [migrated]

  So Chrome is here for iOS.. Hoorah! However now due to the different screen layout (no footer toolbar) it messes with the ability to make a perfect layout for iphone web pages. I have a site for my company that resided perfectly inside an iphone screen, no scrolling required, it looked like an app. However now that chrome is here (and wildly popular) with its different screen layout, sites that were sized for iphone safari now look odd. Is there, or will there be, ways to isolate out chrome from safari and give them different CSS?
