  • em.persist seems doesn't persist data on postgreSQL db

    I've got a simple java main which must write bean data on a PostgreSQL database. I use Entity manager to persist or update object. I use hibernate and toplink driver connection which are specified in persistence.xml file.   • 802.11g -> wired ethernet bridging not working

    Usually people want to go the other direction, but I want to take our relatively fast and stable house 802.11g signal and bridge it to ethernet. I have tried using an Airport Express (the b/g flavor) and my i7 MacBook pro, both to no avail. Word is that the b/g flavor of This flavor of Airport Express maxes at firmware 6.3 which doesn't support this kind of bridging properly. However, I expected my MacBook pro to do the job with its "Internet Sharing" feature. Alas, although my wired PC does sort of see it, it doesn't work out. Strangely, using DHCP the PC receives the same IP address as my MBP uses on the network. Less strangely, but still surprisingly, the wired ethernet port on my mac registers as the IP address of the gateway when queried with IFCONFIG. It sort of makes sense that the mac would "pretend" to be the gateway, but the whole thing just isn't working and seems configured wrong - but all the docs I see say basically "OS X Internet Sharing: click it and go". What do I do? Do i really have to buy more hardware, even though I have plenty of would-be candidates for bridging? Incidentally, the host router originating the 802.11g signal is a belkin 802.11g router, and is documented to support WDS.

There are a variety of tools available to help you and Support diagnose SOA Suite issues in 11g but it can be confusing as to which tool is appropriate for a particular situation and what their relationships are. This blog post will introduce the various tools and attempt to clarify what each is for and how they are related. Let's first list the tools we'll be addressing: RDA: Remote Diagnostic Agent DFW: Diagnostic Framework Selective Tracing DMS: Dynamic Monitoring Service ODL: Oracle Diagnostic Logging ADR: Automatic Diagnostics Repository ADRCI: Automatic Diagnostics Repository Command Interpreter WLDF: WebLogic Diagnostic Framework This overview is not mean to be a comprehensive guide on using all of these tools, however, extensive reference materials are included that will provide many more details on their execution. Another point to note is that all of these tools are applicable for Fusion Middleware as a whole but specific products may or may not have implemented features to leverage them. A couple of the tools have a WebLogic Scripting Tool or 'WLST' interface. WLST is a command interface for executing pre-built functions and custom scripts against a domain. This holistic approach has specifically been used to appeal to a non-technical business analyst user. This demo is NOT focused on product features, but aims to guide users through a complete BPM lifecycle. The scenario is based on improving a simple order process (scenario details are in the demo script). Avitek Corporation is sufferinng from a manual email-driven ordering process. Sales reps don’t know where the customer orders are stuck (no visibility) and finance users are unable to manually approve every order (no automation).   • How to store a shmup level?

    I am developing a 2D shmup (i.e. Aero Fighters) and I was wondering what are the various ways to store a level. Assuming that enemies are defined in their own xml file, how would you define when an enemy spawns in the level? Would it be based on time? Updates? Distance? Currently I do this based on "level time" (the amount of time the level is running - pausing doesn't update the time). The type is defined in EnemyType while SpawnTime is the "level time" this wave should appear. NumberOfSpawns and SpawnOffset is the number of enemies that will show up and the time it takes between each spawn respectively. This could be a good idea or there could be better ones out there. I'm not sure. I would like to see some opinions and ideas. I have two problems with this: spawning an enemy correctly and creating a level editor. The level editor thing is an entirely different problem (which I will probably post in the future :P). As for spawning correctly, the problem lies in the fact that I have a variable update time and so I need to make sure I don't miss an enemy spawn because the spawn offset is too small, or because the update took a little more time. I kinda fixed it for the most part, but it seems to me that the problem is with how I store the level. So, any ideas? Comments? Thank you in advance.

  • What are the maths behind 'Raiden 2' purple laser?

    The path of the laser is affected by user input and enemies present on the screen. Here is a video, at 5:00 minutes the laser in question is shown : Raiden II (PS) - 1 Loop Clear - Part 2 UPDATE Here is a test using Inkscape, ship is at bottom, the first 4 enemies are targeted by the plasma. There seems to be a sort of pattern. I moved the ship first, then the handle from it to form a 45° angle, then while trying to fit the curve I found a pattern of parallel handles and continued so until I reached the last enemy. Update, 5/26/2012 : I started an XNA project using beziers, there is still some work needed, will update the question next week. Stay tuned ! Update : 5/30/2012 : It really seems that they are using Bézier curves, I think I will be able to replicate/imitate a plasma of such grade. There are two new topics I discovered since last time : Arc length, Runge's phenomenon, first one should help in having a linear movement possible over a Bézier curve, second should help in optimizing the number of vertices. Next time I will put a video so you can see the progress 8-)

  • Designing spawning system

    I played this game recently http://www.kongregate.com/games/JuicyBeast/knightmare-tower and I am amazed by the way how different monsters are beign spawned. I personally developed my own shooter game and I added time based but also count based spawing system. By count based I mean when there are 5 enemies on stage stop spawning. But this is one example. My question is how are these spawning mechanism built, is there some pattern or some theory how they are built? Are there some online materials/pages where I can improve my knowledge? To sumarize, let just say we have 6 types of monsters. I start the game and kill of monsters of type 1,2 and 3 all the time. Once I pass the first ceiling, like in the game above, monster type 4 appear. ANd so on. As I progress trough the game, the same system of 6 types of monsters stay, but they become more and more resilient and dangerous. So I must also improve to be able to destroy the same monsters but now stronger. My question is simple, are there some theories built or written for developing this type of inteligent systems? Note: This is a general question, not tied up with some game or how exactly should the game work. I am capable to program my own mechanisms but I think I need some help. Thanks.

  • The Other Side of XBRL

    With the United States SEC's mandate for XBRL filings entering its third year, and impacting over 7000 additional companies in 2011, there's a lot of buzz in the industry about how companies should address the new reporting requirements.  Should they outsource the XBRL tagging process to a third party publisher, handle the process in-house with a bolt-on XBRL tool, or should they integrate XBRL tagging with the financial close and reporting process?  Oracle is recommending the latter approach, in fact  here's a link to a recent webcast that I did with CFO.com on this topic: http://www.cfo.com/webcasts/index.cfm/l_eventarchive/14548560 But production of XBRL-based filings is only half of the story. The other half is consumption of XBRL by regulators, academics, financial analysts and investors.  As I mentioned in my December article on the XBRL US conference, the feedback from these groups is that they are not really leveraging XBRL for analysis of companies due to a lack of tools and historic XBRL-based data on public companies.   The good news here is that the historic data problem is getting better as large, accelerated filers enter their third year of XBRL filings.  And the situation is getting better on the reporting and analysis tools side of the equation as well - and Oracle is leading the way. In early January, Oracle released the Oracle XBRL Extension for Oracle Database 11g.  This is a "no cost option" on top of the latest Oracle Database 11.2.0.2.0 release. With this added functionality organizations will have the ability to create one or more back-end XBRL repositories based on Oracle Database, which provide XBRL storage and query-ability with a set of XBRL-specific services.  The XBRL Extension to Oracle XML DB integrates easily with Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) for analytics and with interactive development environments (IDEs) and design tools for creating and editing XBRL taxonomies. The Oracle XBRL Extension to Oracle Database 11g should be attractive to regulators, stock exchanges, universities and other organizations that need to collect, analyze and disseminate XBRL-based filings.  It should also be attractive to organizations that produce XBRL filings, and need a way to store and compare their own XBRL-based financial filings to those of their peers and competitors.     I have to questions. I am trying to develop a game that is iOS but I did it first in my computer so I can tested there. I was able to must of it for PC but I am having a very hard time with iOS port The problem I do have is that I don't know how to shout in iOS. How would one start with the development with such systems? Would there be editors that can be used (or at least help) with creating the environments? Perhaps a 3D map with splines describing the path of the ship, as well as events on the splines?

  • Enemy Spawning method in a Top-Down Shooter

    I'm working on a top-down shooter akin to DoDonPachi, Ikaruga, etc. The camera movement through the world is handled automatically with the player able to move inside of the camera's visible region. Along the way, enemies are scripted to spawn at particular points along the path. While this sounds straightforward, I could see two ways to define these points: Camera's position: 'trigger' spawning as the camera passes by the points Time along path: "30 seconds in, spawn 2 enemies" In both cases, the camera-relative positions would be defined as well as the behavior of the enemy. The way I see it, the way you define these points will directly affect how the 'level editor', or what have you, will work. Would there be any benefits of one approach over the other?

  • Oracle 11g Data Guard over a WAN

    Hi - We are in process of looking at using Oracle's Data Guard to replicate our 11g instance from a colo facility in Washington DC to Chicago. To give some basics we have approximately 25TB of storage and a healthy transaction rate in the 1-2K/sec range. Also, because we are processing data in real-time we have a 24x7x365 requirement for processing data. We don't have any respites as far as volume except for system upgrades (once every few months) where we take the system offline but then course experience a spike in transactions when we bring the system back on-line. Ideally we would want the second instance in the DG configuration semi-online in a read-only fashion for reports/etc. We evaluated DG in 10g and were not overly impressed and research seemed to show that earlier versions had issues with replication over a WAN but I have heard good things about modifications the product has gone through w/ 11g. Can anyone confirm an instance of this size and transaction rate being replicated over a WAN and if so what is the general latency? An information or experiences with a DG implementation that is of this size and scope would really be helpful (or larger - I also realize we are still relatively small compared to many others out there).   • Can't connect to wireless-n in dual mode.

    I recently purchased a Acer Aspire Revo AR3610-U9022. This little nettop uses a Atheros AR5B91 Wireless Network Adapter. I also have a Netgear RangeMax NEXT Wireless Route (model WNDR3300). I have been using this router in dual mode (11G and 11N) on my normal desktop without a problem (Mode: Up to 270Mbps at 5GHz & 54Mbps at 2.4 GHz), but doing this, my Revo won't detect the 11N network as being around... my desktop still does, but the Revo, nope... just the 11G. However, when I switch my router over to just "Up to 270Mbps at 2.4GHz", it kills the 11G entirely, but the Revo recognizes the 11N network. I'm a programmer by trade, and this hardware-y stuff confuses me more than it should. Is there any way that I could set this stuff up so my Revo can connect to the 11N part of my router, but keep the 11G around? :) Thanks!

This query should return two rows as it does on Oracle 9i, but results ORA-01476: divisor is equal to zero on Oracle 11g EE 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit. Can anyone help? Thanks!

    I have a client running a WebLogic 11g install on a Windows Server machine who wishes to implement Apache-style mod_rewrite-like functionality to translate requests for easyurl.com to super.complicated.com/with/this/junk?here=and_more. I have scoured the Internet for advice, but all I can find are other people who are asking the same question and not getting any answer. Assuming that installing 3rd-party apps is not an option, how do I implement this in WebLogic? To clarify, WebLogic is not running with Apache (or else I'd just use mod_rewrite).

  • SSL certificate for Oracle Application Server 11g

    I was asked to get an SSL certificate for an "Oracle Application Server 11g" which has a soon-to-expire certificate. Brushing aside the fact that 10g seems to be the newest version, I got a certificate from InCommon, as I usually do without problem (except this is the first time I supplied Oracle Application Server 11g as the software type on the CSR form). On the email containing links to download the certificate, it mentioned: Certificate Details: SSL Type : InCommon SSL Server : OTHER I forwarded the email over to the person responsible for installing it and got a reply that the server type must be Oracle Application Server for the certificate to work (the CN is the same as before). They were unable to install this certificate (no details provided to me) and mentioned they had this issue previously with Thawte when they didn't supply Oracle Application Server as the server type. I don't see any significant difference between the currently installed certificate (working) and the new one I just got signed by InCommon (not working). $ openssl x509 -in sso-current.cer -text shows, with irrelevant information ommitted.     I was trying to download Oracle Database (10g and 11g). On webpage of oracle there are links, however they give me 404 when I accept OTN license and try to download. I googled around and found forum with users reporting the same issue and the workaround was to change the url of download link from download.oracle.com/... to download download-uk.oracle.com/... however this does not work either, is there any mirror that is working at the moment?
