  • DotNetNuke is a Gartner Cool Vendor in 2010!

When I originally released DotNetNuke way back in 2002, I must admit that I never could have imagined the impact it would have on the technology landscape. Over the past 8 years, user and developer adoption has made it the leading Web Content Management Platform for the Microsoft stack. With this much adoption, we have recently started to get noticed by the leading industry analyst firms. It is important to note that the criteria which these firms use to evaluate product offerings is heavily focused...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.

  • Monday at Oracle OpenWorld 2012 - Must See Session: “Using the Right Tools, Techniques, and Technologies for Integration Projects”

    - by Lionel Dubreuil
Don’t miss this “CON8669 - Using the Right Tools, Techniques, and Technologies for Integration Projects“ session with Timothy Hall - Sr. Director, Oracle: Date: Monday, Oct 1, Time: 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM Location: Moscone South - 308 Every integration project brings its own unique set of challenges. There are many tools and techniques to choose from. How do you ensure that you have a means of consistently and repeatedly making decisions about which tools, techniques, and technologies are used? In working with many customers around the globe, Oracle has developed a set of criteria to help evaluate a variety of common integration questions. This session explores these criteria and how they have been further organized into decision trees that offer a repeatable means for ensuring that project teams are given the same guidance from project to project. Using these techniques, the presentation shows how you can reduce risk and speed productivity for your projects Objectives for this session are to: Discuss common questions that arise at the start of integration projects Review various decision criteria and approaches for getting to a consistent set of answers Explore how these techniques can be used to reduce risk and speed productivity

  • How can I avoid the engineering mistakes of PDT?

    - by ashy_32bit
As a developer with enough experience to evaluate a tool, I may say that PDT is very huge in size and slow in performance for a PHP IDE. It gets bigger by release and exponentially slower by the size of the projects. Add some extra syntax coloring rules and it literally crawls, code completion works randomly and building workspace takes like forever. Java black magic (-Xmx etc) eases the pain a little but that's it. So my questions are: Why is PDT like this? What design or engineering factors led to its poor performance? How can I avoid making these same mistakes in my own products?

  • .NET Excel File Parser

    - by Russak
So the company I'm working for is looking for a means to verify that a given .xls/.xlsx file is valid. Which means checking columns and rows and other data. He's having me evaluate GrapeCity Spread and SpreadsheetGear, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any other suggestions of external tools to check out. We don't need a means to export .xls files or anything like that, just the ability to import them and verify they are valid based on a set of criteria I create. Thanks.

  • Javascript Certification

    - by Livingston Samuel
Is there any proper Certification for Javascript, that covers all the advanced topics of Javascript including the DOM (Document Object Model), BOM (Browser Object Model) and CSS Object Model, that can really evaluate the skills? I've no idea how to scale myself on my JS skills, so any suggestions would be beneficial.

  • Android NDK - does it support straight ARM code or just Thumb

    - by Russell Kay
All, I have been asked to evaluate the Android platform for our product and I am looking at various options, I am only just scratching the surface just now and the one thing that is bothering me is that I cannot see how to compile code as straight ARM code (no Thumb), I know that Thumb runs slower and we will need the performance in key sections of our code. I think it should just be setting the -march flag in the LOCAL_CFLAGS of the Android.mk file, but I cannot get that to work... Can anyone help. Russell

  • minimax depth first search game tree

    - by Arvind
Hi I want to build a game tree for nine men's morris game. I want to apply minimax algorithm on the tree for doing node evaluations. Minimax uses DFS to evaluate nodes. So should I build the tree first upto a given depth and then apply minimax or can the process of building the tree and evaluation occur together in recursive minimax DFS? Thank you Arvind

  • Eval Smarty Code inside a Smarty Template

    - by clops
Hi, is there a way to evaluate Smarty Code inside an existing Smarty template? For example, I may have the following construct: smartyTemplate.tpl <body> <div id="dynamicPart"> {$valueFromDatabase} </div> </body> Whereas the Smarty variable $valueFromDatabase contains another Smarty Template which I would like to be inserted in place of the variable and then evaluated as a template (with all the logic expressions in replacements neccessary).

  • Pros and Cons of automating Excel using VBA vs .Net

    - by Andy
I've been tasked with creating a financial planning tool in Excel that would benefit from some custom functions/macros. My initial reaction was to use VBA. I've used it to drive Excel before (say 5 years ago). But I then began to wonder if I would be better off using VSTO. Has anyone has experience using both techs and can list the pros and cons so that I can evaluate which course would be best.

  • Where do I find a list of changes and bug fixes for .Net classes from 3.5 -> 4.0?

    - by Nathan Ridley
I'm having trouble finding a list of the changes and bug fixes that have been made in the .Net framework for .Net 4.0. They're not easy to find, but surely they exist somewhere? Specifically I want to find out what changes and updates have been made for System.Net.HttpWebRequest and System.Net.CookieContainer, as both are quite bugridden in 3.5 and I want to evaluate whether I should write my code for .Net 4.0 or if I should create some custom classes to work around their issues.

  • GPL license and eiffel studio

    - by Michael Jenneson
On https://www2.eiffel.com/download/download_info.aspx?id=eiffelstudio&info=false&mirrors=eiffelstudio you can download the IDE "eiffelstudio". They have GPL as their license but they also specify that "The GPL version is for the purpose of developing open-source software only! If you want to evaluate EiffelStudio for commercial software development, please download our Enterprise Evaluation Edition." However as far as i know this is directly against the gpl. Can they really specify such restrictions while adhering to the GPL?

  • solve mathematical equation with 1 unknown (equations are dynamically built)

    - by chris-gr
Hi, I have to built dynamically equations like following: x + x/3 + (x/3)/4 + (x/3/4)/2 = 50 Now I would like to evaluate this equation and get x. The equation is built dynamically. x is the leaf node in a taxonomy, the other 3 nodes are the super concepts. The divisor represents the number of children of the child nodes. Is there a library that allows to build such equations dynamically and resolve x? Thanks, Chris

  • ASP.NET based object inspector

    - by Richard Edwards
I'm currently writing some code that uses Flee to evaluate a number of rules and I'd like to include an ASP.NET based object inspector in the configuration screen so users can inspect the values of objects that are made available. I've put together a fairly basic routine to recurse an objects properties and spit it out but before I go and write something more polished, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a component that provides this functionality.

  • Where are Riak Post-Commit Hooks run?

    - by pixelcort
I'm trying to evaluate using Riak's Post-Commit Hooks to build a distributed, incremental MapReduce-based index, but was wondering which Riak nodes the Post-Commit Hooks actually run on. Are they run on the nodes the client used to put the commits, or on the primary nodes where the data is persisted? If it's the latter, I'm thinking I can from there efficiently do a map or reduce and put additional records from the output.

  • FileReference.load() not populating FileReference.data.

    - by cookiecaper
I am trying to use the load method of FileReference object to load the data and use it to display a thumbnail of the selected image. However, after calling fr.load(), fr.data remains null. I'm using Flex Builder 3.0.2 on Windows 7 with Flex SDK 3.4 and Flash Player 10 Debug. If I evaluate fr.load() in Eclipse's watch variables list, I get an error reading "No such variable: load." Anyone know why this is happening?
