  • How do I switch java versions to an earlier version in Fedora 17?

    I just installed Fedora 17. I'm setting up the Android Build Environment and need Java. I downloaded and installed jdk-6u32-linux-amd64.rpm I ran java -version and it spit out the correct version. Well a day or two later i tried my first compile in Fedora 17 and it complained about java and failed. I ran java -version again and low and behold it spits out $ java -version java version "1.7.0_03-icedtea" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (fedora-2.1.fc17.7-x86_64) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 22.0-b10, mixed mode) I'm stumped. I mean, i've run the update/upgrade commands since i installed but i didn't think that updated full version revisions... So, I ran alternatives --config java and that only gave me the java 1.7 version. While digging around more I discovered that the recommended version of Java for the build environment is jdk-6u27-linux-x64-rpm.bin so I downloaded that from here: Oracle Download When I ran: sudo sh jdk-6u27-linux-x64-rpm.bin it returned: Unpacking...     I've got a site that was hosted on a linux el cheapo hosting service that I'm migrating to my Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Server server running Apache 2.2.8 & PHP 5.2.5 w/rewrite_module enabled and AllowOverride All, but I'm running into an issue with the following lines in the .htaccess file: RewriteEngine On #RewriteRule ^view/([^/\.]+)/?$ /view.php?item=$1 [L] #RewriteRule ^order/([^/\.]+)/?$ /order.php?item=$1 [L] RewriteRule ^category/([^/\.]+)/?$ /category.php?category=$1 [L] As you can see, I've commented out the RewriteRule directives for /view/ and /order/, so I'm only dealing with /category/. When I attempt to load http://domain.tld/category/2/ it runs category.php (I've added debug code to confirm), but $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] comes through as /category/2/ and $_GET['category'] comes through as empty. I'm usually fine with troubleshooting .htaccess files and mod_rewrite directives, but this one's got me stumped for some reason.     Hello - My production env runs CentOS 5.2 and 5.5 versions. I have to develop a new tool using C/C++ and deploy it on this production env. I was planning to use Fedora 14 on my desktop with GCC 4.4 to do the development with Eclipse IDE. And then later I want to deploy the executables to CentOS 5.2 or 5.5 The production env will have GCC 4.4 as well. Since both Fedora and CentOS are RHEL based, I thought this is possible. So can I do this? Or do I need to have CentOS 5.2/5.5 on my development desktop as well? Thanks Amit

  • How can I start an X11 session on my headless Fedora 13 server?

    I have a small home server using Fedora 13 as operating system. Since the upgrade to Fedora 13 I cannot start the X11 server. (I need it to use vnc) When I try to start the server, both the nouveau and the original NVIDIA driver claim that there's no physical monitor attached (which is true) and that the X server cannot start because the initial display modes cannot be probed. I tried to manually add the display modes to xorg.conf but they seem to be ignored. Some forums suggest to simply use the VESA driver in this situation, but since I can't get it run either (different, more obscure message) I want to get it working with the nouveau driver as a matter of principle. Temporarily attaching a monitor would mean a lot of work for me ( 1 hour and currently it's almost 35°C/95°F in my home) I want to try that only if that definitely fixes the problem and stays that way if I remove the monitor again) How can I make the driver work without having a physical monitor attached? Every year or so, I go through the ritual dance, usually with a second computer and a KVM switch as I don't have office space for two monitors, to build the next version of Fedora and install all my favorite apps. Is there a better way? At least a nice way to keep track of what I need to 'add on' so that I don't have to manually install my app collection? Also, I keep /home on a separate raid-ed drive set so I can also fall prey to 'old-config-file-itis'.

  • Will learning to use Fedora also teach me my way around Redhat (CentOS)?

    I want to dive into the open source world and start using a Linux distro while learning to program. I've looked over the options and it pretty much boils down to Fedora or CentOS. The reasoning behind it is I'm hoping to kill two birds with one stone... Redhat seems to be "the choice" for servers, so I figure as I learn to program, I can also learn my way around Linux... or Redhat more specifically... and get that under my belt too. I want to use Fedora, and be on the frontier of new software (since I'm not doing anything critical), but if it's completely different than Redhat I'd rather just use CentOS. So is it? Or can I use one and know the other?

  • Fedora 14 - Error 5 - No space on Disk - After installation.

    I am new to Fedora, am still figure my way through it. I was going about tweaking it and preparing it to my needs, While installing through yum I dont have much other than the fact that I have to search for the packages. But when I open "Add/remove software" of Fedora. I am greeted with " No space left on the disk" and when I seek for more details it says " Disk Error :[errno 5] Input/output error" I did some research and I saw that it usually occurs during installation, but here I have successfully installed it. Can someone help me with it? Later on I even had notification of the same warning. And mind you I got loads of free space. Thanks for the help
