  • Office Compatibility Pack and File Permissions

    MS isn't my thing, so I hope somebody can give me a pointer. We have a Windows domain, with a Server-2003-SP1-Enterprise file server. One of the specific files is a MS Excel 2007 (XLSX) file created by user LK. In the "Security" preferences setting, about a half-dozen users (including me) have access to this file. LK is the owner and has "full control", while the rest of us have "Read" , "Read & Execute", and "Write" permission. LK is also the owner of the directory that this file resides in. I don't know if that's relevant. So far so good. My desktop machine has Windows XP SP3 , and Excel 2003 SP3 , and the "Office Compatibility Pack" which lets me read and write the new XLSX files. However, whenever I write the file, the permissions are changed. The newly-written file only has permissions for LK and me, and both are "Full control" So in short, what am I doing wrong, and how should I set this up to do it right, keeping the permissions on the file that were there when I started?

  • One row is skipped each time the program scans a matrix from file !

    Hello there, I had this code working yesterday, but it seems like I edited it a bit and lost the working version. I cant get this to work anymore. I basically want to scan a matrix from a .txt file. But each time it scans the first row, the second one is skipped, and it reads the third instead :( Here is my code : for(i=0;i<=test->rowmat1;i++){ for(j=0;j<=test->colmat1;j++){ fscanf(fin,"%f\t",&test->mat[i][j]); } fscanf(fin,"%*[^\n]",&test->mat[i][j]); } For example, for a matrix of : 1.00 2.00 3.00 4.00 5.00 6.00 7.00 8.00 9.00 10.00 11.00 12.00 If I extract 3 rows and 3 cols, I get : 1.00 2.00 3.00 7.00 8.00 9.00 Then fails, it wants to skip over the second line but there is nothing after 10 11 12 Why did it stop working ? What do I have wrong ? Please help, Thanks in advance.

  • Drawbacks with reading and writing a big file to or from disk at once instead of small chunks?

    I work mainly on Windows and Windows CE based systems, where CreateFile, ReadFile and WriteFile are the work horses, no matter if I'm in native Win32 land or in managed .Net land. I have so far never had any obvious problem writing or reading big files in one chunk, as opposed to looping until several smaller chunks are processed. I usually delegate the IO work to a background thread that notifies me when it's done. But looking at file IO tutorials or "textbook examples", I often find the "loop with small chunks" used without any explanation of why it's used instead of the more obvious (I dare to say!) "do it all at once". Are there any drawbacks to the way I do that I haven't understood?

  • Fatal error when using FILE* in Windows from DLL

    Hi there. Recently, I found a problem with Visual C++ 2008 compiler, but using minor hack avoid it. Currently, I cannot use the same hack, but problem exists as in 2008 as in 2010 (Express). So, I've prepared for you 2 simple C file: one for DLL, one for program: DLL (file-dll.c): #include <stdio.h> __declspec(dllexport) void print_to_stream (FILE *stream) { fprintf (stream, "OK!\n"); } And for program, which links this DLL via file-dll.lib: Program: #include <stdio.h> __declspec(dllimport) void print_to_stream (FILE *stream); int main (void) { print_to_stream (stdout); return 0; } To compile and link DLL: cl /LD file-dll.c To compile and link program: cl file-test.c file-dll.lib When invoking file-test.exe, I got the fatal error (similar to segmentation fault in UNIX). As I said early, I had that the same problem before: about transferring FILE* pointer to DLL. I thought, that it may be because of compiler mismatch, but now I'm using one compiler for everything and it's not the problem. ;-( What can I do now? UPD: I've found solution: cl /LD /MD file-dll.c cl /MD file-test.c file-dll.lib The key is to link to dynamic library, but (I did not know it) by default it links staticaly and (hencefore) error occurs (I see why).     I tried installing a trial version of SAP NetWeaver 7.1 on Windows Vista on my laptop but I couldn't succeed. Then I tried installing SAP Web Application Server 6.20.     Hello, I have a Windows 2008 Server running the File Server Role and I would like to use mount points for my volumes instead of drive letters. However, I need to use the quota and file screening features of File Server Resource Manager, and it seems that they do not apply correctly to mount point folders. I am able to upload oversized files and excluded file types without any warnings. Could someone help me with a fix or workaround for this issue? Thanks, Jamie

    I have my iTunes library file on a separate hard drive (which I believe may be the cause of the problem) and I have been trying to use it to synchronize with my Windows Phone. I would like to first note that if I set up my phone to synchronize with 'Windows Libraries', then it works fine. This is however not ideal as I have categorised my music and made playlists etc, on iTunes.     I'm a noob and have some questions about viewing who accessed a file. I found there are ways to see if a file was accessed (not modified/changed) through audit subsystem and inotify. However, from what I have read online, according to here: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-audit-files-to-see-who-made-changes-to-a-file.html it says to 'watch/monitor' file, I have to set a watch by using command like: # auditctl -w /etc/passwd -p war -k password-file So if I create a new file or directory, do I have to use audit/inotify command to 'set' watch first to 'watch' who accessed the new file? Also is there a way to know if a directory is being 'watched' through audit subsystem or inotify? How/where can I check the log of a file? edit: from further googling, I found this page saying: http://www.kernel.org/doc/man-pages/online/pages/man7/inotify.7.html The inotify API provides no information about the user or process that triggered the inotify event. So I guess this means that I cant figure out which user accessed a file? Only audit subsystem can be used to figure out who accessed a file?

  • synchronization of file locations between two machines

    Although similar threads have been asked on this site and its siblings before, I've not managed to glean the answer to this persistent question. Any help is much appreciated. The situation: I've got two laptops; both contain a ton of music. Sometimes I move these music files to different locations, or change the metadata in them, or convert them to a different format. I might do any of these things on either machine. I rarely do all of them at once — ie it's unlikely that I'll convert a file's format and move it to a different location all in one go. I'd like to be able to synchronize these changes without having to sift through everything that was renamed or moved. I'm familiar with rsync but I find it inadequate, because although it can compute checksums, it doesn't have any way to store them. So if a file differs, it can't figure out which side it changed on. This also means that it can't attempt to match a missing file to a new one with the same checksum (ie a move) if the filesize and date are the same, it , so it takes an epoch to do a sync on a large repository. I would like to only check the checksum if the files even if you turn on checksumming, it still doesn't use it intelligently: ie it checksums files even if the sizes differ. IIRC. it's not able to use file metadata as a means of file comparison. this is sort of a wishlist item but it seems doable. I've also looked into rsnapshot, but its requirement to create a full backup is impractical in this situation. I don't need a backup, I just need a record of what file with each hash was where when. Unison seems like it might be able to do something vaguely along these lines, but I'm loathe to spend hours wading through its details only to discover that it's sadly lacking. Plus, it's fun asking questions on here. What I'd like is a tool that does something along these lines: keeps track of file checksums or of actual renames, possibly using inotify to greatly reduce resource consumption/latency stores a database containing this info, along with other pertinencies like the file format and metadata, the actual inode, the filename history, etc. uses this info to provide more-intelligent synchronization with a counterpart on the other side. So for example: if a file has been converted from flac to ogg, but kept the same base filename, or the same metadata, it should be able to send the new version over, and the other side should delete the original. Probably it should actually sequester it somewhere in case they or you screwed up, but that's a detail. And then when the transaction is done, the state is logged so that the next time the two interact they can work out their differences. Maybe all this metadata stuff is a fancy pipe dream. I would actually be pretty happy if there was something out there that could just use checksums in an intelligent way. This would be sort of like having the intelligence of something like git, minus the need to duplicate data in an index/backup/etc (and branching, and checkouts, and all the other great stuff that RCSs do. basically just fast forward commit pushes are all I want, with maybe the option to roll back.) So is there something out there that can do this? If not, can someone suggest a good way to start making it?
