  • How do I remap the keyboard shortcut for Gnome Do?

    I am giving Unity a chance to win me over in Natty, but I admit I am a heavy Gnome Do user and Unity has remapped the Super+Space keyboard shortcut to show the Unity Launcher. I am not yet convinced with the new Unity Launcher and would like to keep using Gnome Do, at least until such time as I am convinced that the Unity launcher is as frictionless as Gnome Do. Is it possible to remap it to Gnome Do?

  • Google Search w/ Chrome Incognito w/ Gnome Do

    I've installed Google Chrome as my default browser in Ubuntu, and recently installed Gnome Do and enabled the Google Search plugin. The Google Search from Gnome Do works exactly as expected but for one thing: Chrome (which is typically set to open in "incognito" mode) does not open in "incognito" mode. The shortcuts on my desktop, taskbar, and menus all have the --incognito flag attached (which works just fine), but the browser refuses to open in this mode when launched from Gnome Do. Any suggestions? Also, please note the settings for the Google Search plugin in Gnome Do: It's obvious that Gnome Do just passes the Google Search blindly to the default browser. In other words, there are no configurable settings specifically for Chrome. Any thoughts?

    I have a web service built for SharePoint 2007 that I am trying to port to SharePoint 2010. This web service is dependent on session state to function properly, but so far, I have been enable to get session state to work at all in SharePoint 2010. This web service runs as its own web application under t he /_vti_bin virtual directory. I have tried all of the following with no luck: Ensured the "State Service" service application is running. Added the System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule http module to my application's web.config file. Added the System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule http module to my SharePoint root web.config file. Added <pages enableSessionState="true" /> to my application's web.config file. Added <pages enableSessionState="true" /> to my root web.config file. Additional Environment info: Visual Studio 2008 - SP1 .NET 3.5 - SP1 SharePoint 2010 - RC Windows Server 2008 R2 ASMX web service (not WCF) Had anyone had any luck getting a web application or web service to use session state in SharePoint 2010 yet?   • ASP.NET: Large number of Session_Start with same session id

    I'm running a ASP.NET website on my development box (.NET 2.0 on Vista/IIS7). The Session_Start method in global.asax.cs logs every call to a file (log4net). The Session_End method also logs every call. I'm using InProc session state, and set the session timeout to 5 mins (to avoid waiting for 20 mins). I hit the website, wait for 5 minutes unit I see the Session_End logging. Then I F5 the website. The browsers still has the session cookie and sends it to the server. Session_Start is called and a new session is created using the same session id (btw: I need this to be the same session id, because it is used to store data in database). Result: Every time I hit F5 on a previously ended session, the Session_Start method is called. When I open a different browser, the Session_Start method is called just once. Then after 5 minutes the Session_End each F5 causes the Session_Start method to execute. Can anyone explain why this is happening? Update: After the Session timeout, all subsequent requests have a session start & session end.     When the user clicks a logout button, I connect to a script that simply does this session_destroy(); session_start(); I thought this would be enough to reset all $_SESSION variables such as $_SESSION['logged'] and $_SESSION['username'] but when I load the page again, it automatically logs me in as if the session is still active.

  • Create custom launchers in GNOME 3

    I'm using Debian testing, and I have been switched to GNOME 3 by the Debian update yesterday. I'm not very comfortable with the UI. I wanted to customize everything like I had it with GNOME 2, but I simply couldn't find any way to change preferences like I'm used to. I've digged some, but all answers I could find did not help me achieve my goals. So please, if anyone knows the solution to this I'd be thankful: 1) I want several launchers that launch terminals, with different arguments and different coloring/title. I have searched everything and there seems to be no menu, no right-click, nothing which is standard in any UI I know. How can I create several launchers in this bar on the left side that launch the same application, just with different parameters? With GNOME 2 this was a piece of cake. 2) I want to switch between different terminals using ALT-TAB. Right now, I'm always just getting to the same, already-opened terminal. When I open two terminals by simply creating the second one by issuing xterm &, I still get one Terminal entry with ALT-TAB, and I have to navigate with cursor keys or mouse wheel to select one of the two xterminals. Instead, I want to open a new terminal when I click the quick launch terminal icon from the bar on the left side of the screen and navigate through them like on KDE/GNOME 2/Windows/any reasonable UI. Can this be done? 3) Is there a trick to make bluetooth devices work like on GNOME 2? Right now, my BT keyboard won't pair anymore, which, as you can imagine, makes me pretty angry. and, if anything fails: 4) How can I switch back to GNOME 2 again? :-) Honestly, who did design this? What were they smoking? I feel like I'm not allowed to do anything except start one of any application that has an icon and just with the default parameters. That can't be true, right? I feel massively restrained by this stuff :(

    I'm having issues since yesterday after an upgrade. GNOME session got messed up somehow and now i cannot install further upgrades nor new apps. Here is what i got from terminal after doing the recommended apt-get install -f; (Reading database ... 166876 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace gnome-session 3.0.1-0ubuntu1~build2 (using .../gnome-session_3.0.2-0ubuntu3~natty1_all.deb) ...   • Gnome panel not found

    Hi I installed the Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop. 1st time Ubuntu user ever. After successful installation only panel on top with small ubuntu logo on left and system/connections, time, keyboard, volume icons/ on right. No menu and not able to create menu. Right click on the panel - no options. I tried everything, but it could be the most basic think as i have no experience with ubuntu. Please can you help me to resolve this issue. thank you bochnik

  • When starting or log off/on, add'l panels show and some panel applets are duplicated

    After upgrading to 12.04 Gnome Classic amd64,every time I log on a new additional blank panel appears on the top and bottom panels - which I delete every time. In addition, the default panel applets are duplicated in the original panels. Also the panels in the second screen are empty (in addition to the wallpaper being hidden). Update: As suggested by fossfreedomm I created a new user and the same behavior occurred. I increased the height of the panels (2436) and the added panels did not change. If I don't remove the added panels and log off/on I get still another - they accumulate. If I switch user instead of logoff/logon, the add'l panel do not appear.

  • adding executable file to path and launching from terminal directly

    i just downloaded sublime text for my ubuntu, and its working fine. i have the executable file in my ~/sublime folder. now i would like to invoke this app from the terminal by just typing sublime. i suppose that is possible, pls let me know how. also, since this application did not need any configure/make/install (i just had to extract it and then use the exec file to run the app), i cannot add this to my gnome launcher fav apps panel. how can i put the app shortcut there, so that when i do a top-left and then type sublime, the results will show the applicaion and then i can click on it and invoke the app from there? thanks!

  • nomachine NX: Text missing on all gtk interface (Unity and Gnome Classic)

    [Edit] I later realized my issue only occurs when I am using NX to remote access my machine. Therefore I edited the title and description. I have also found the temp solution, which is to "disable render extension" in the custom display settings. But doing so makes the NX experience very slow laggy, and not that nice to look at. [/EDIT] I did a fresh install on a new computer, and was trying to setup my fonts. When I log in remotely via NX, my the text are missing on all gtk based interfaces. That means most menues (except for unity), right click menues, applications themselves, terminal, and so on. About the only thing unaffected is firefox. all the texts are showing just fine for firefox. So that probably already says something about text permissions. I went to check if my fonts have the correct permissions and they do. I removed my custom settings from /etc/fonts/config.d, and still the texts are missing. There is a work around by using "disable render extension" in the custom display settings. How do I fix this issue permanently?

  • Identify my terminal session that started a particular process

    I'm using Gnome on Ubuntu. I often have 8-20 terminal sessions open and in some of them I have su'd to a different user. The specific problem that caused me to write this query happens when using git status, but this is more general issue. git status will tell me I have an uncontrolled file .foo.java.swp. This means that in one of my terminal sessions I have vi open on foo.java. I need a script or tool that would tell me in which terminal session that vi is running. I can do a "ps aux | grep vi" to pretty easily find the pid of the particular vi. It would be nice if the tool highlighted the terminal on my task bar in some way. Thanks. -Sam

    I would like to open one or more Nautilus windows from the command line or a script at certain positions on my screen/desktop while in Gnome3. I could do this in Ubuntu 11.10 by specifying the geometry. For example, to open the window at the bottom right corner from the command line I could use: nautilus --geometry 600x475-0-0 ~/mystuff But using Gnome3 the geometry option is ignored, or overriden. Is there a way to make this work?

Using the fallback 'C' locale. The locales were not set correctly, and locale LANG and LANGUAGE were the culprits. I picked my way through this. The answer, correct below.

  • How to debug slow session start of Gnome 3?

    After Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04, the login process of Gnome 3 is extremely slow (It takes in the order of 60 seconds when it was in the order of a few seconds before the upgrade (Harddisk is a SSD!)). Running "top" in a VT shows that gnome-shell is producing about 90% CPU load while dbus-daemon is taking roughly 10%. The moment when CPU-load of gnome-shell drops to normal levels (around 2-3%) corresponds to the time the login process is terminated and the desktop is displayed. De-activating the four gnome-shell extensions (Alternative Status Menu, Quit Button, Remove Accessibility, system-monitor) that I have installed does not have any effect on session start up time. Login to Gnome classic does not show the slow session start. The system logs do not show anything suspicious. Thus, what is the best way to identify the underlying problem?

Application: Updating an old .NET web app with a million pages and grids to have all the grids maintain their sort. They currently access helper code to format themselves graphically on load and on sort.   • Can't Log Into Ubuntu 12.04

    Yesterday, after turning on Ubuntu, I logged into a Gnome session. A few minutes later, I tried switching to Unity for a change. Unfortunately, the background and my desktop icons loaded, but the system bar and launcher failed to load even after several minutes. Unity had always worked fine for me. I then tried the guest account, and it worked fine on both Unity and Gnome. However, the problem with my account got worse; I couldn't log into any desktop at all anymore. I would type in my password and press enter and it would just sit there doing nothing. The computer no longer responded in any way, so I had to hold the power button and reboot. The same problem happened repeatedly. Earlier today, I tried to get on again. I found that I hadthe same problem, when I tried to log in, the computer no longer locked up, but instead flashed a black screen with theconsole output and what seemed to be an error message before returning to the log in screen. It was to quick for me to read, about 1/4-1/2 second. I'd really appreciate some help as I have some important files that are not backed up yet. I can't transfer the files to a new account, or even make a new account because I tried taking the password off my account so now I can't authenticate from the guest to perform root functions.   • Can't add to panel nor delete panel

    Hello everybody! I cannot add any applet to any (top or bottom) panel, cannot delete any panel nor create a new panel. When I right-click on the panel the only options available are: Properties, Help or About panels. [I cannot post an image because of spam prevention, so I'll do my best] I can see when I right-click (bold means clickable): Add to panel Properties Delete this panel New panel Help About Panels Trying to solve this I did what is usually suggested: gconftool-2 –-recursive-unset /apps/panel # might be optional rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel pkill gnome-panel but I only got a nice empty panel (no Applications Places System, no clock, no shutdown button...) to which I couldn't add any applet, so I decided to take the default profiles in .gconf and .gconfd from a live CD and overwrite mines. Now we are back to the beginning. I also have tried to lock completely the panel (with both gconf-editor and pessulus) and later unlock it completely but it didn't work.   • Classic ASP Session not working in IIS 7 Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

    Hi, I've been googleing and searching here info about this but so far couldn't find anything relevant to my problem. We have a website currently working on II6 and Windows Server 2003 (x86) without any problem. Now we want to migrate our server to a Virtual Machine with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) and IIS7. Out current app is built in Classic ASP and SQL Server (This one located on a 2nd Server but this is staying the way it is now). The website is configured as a WebSite, not a virtual directory. Using DefaultAppPool with 4 applications.   • FOSS ASP.Net Session Replication Solution?

    I've been searching (with little success) for a free/opensource session clustering and replication solution for asp.net. I've run across the usual suspects (indexus sharedcache, memcached), however, each has some limitations. Indexus - Very immature, stubbed session interface implementation. Its otherwise a great caching solution, though. Memcached - Little replication/failover support without going to a db backend. Several SF.Net projects - All aborted in the early stages... nothing that appears to have any traction, and one which seems to have gone all commercial. Microsoft Velocity - Not OSS, but seems nice. Unfortunately, I didn't see where CTP1 supported failover, and there is no clear roadmap for this one. I fear that this one could fall off into the ether like many other MS dev projects. I am fairly used to the Java world where it is kind of taken for granted that many solutions to problems such as this will be available from the FOSS world. Are there any suitable alternatives available on the .Net world?
